This fall, we’re taking a look at how artists in the Brooklyn Museum collection have promoted civic engagement through their work.
Can you identify each New York City borough in these historic images? Taken in the late 1800s, these photographs show the city at a time when the population was under 3 million—today, Brooklyn alone counts over 2.5 million. More than one third of New Yorkers were foreign-born in 1900, a statistic that is almost the same today (although in Queens it's closer to 50%). No matter where you were born, or which borough you now call home, everyone currently living in New York should complete the 2020 census. The new deadline for responses is October 5th. Currently, the borough with the highest self-response rate is: Staten Island! It's not too late to catch up, let's make Brooklyn count!

🚨🚨🚨 This is very bad, the Census is VITAL. It can cause the elimination of entire congressional districts if not enough people fill it out. It helps determine all kind of funding dollars for social services. Etc. Have you filled yours out yet? You can do it online! Please fill yours out! Encourage your friends and family to fill it out too! www.census.gov

[ICYMI] Baltimore, MD| NHENT 2020 Year in Review. The year began with a plethora of events we had planned in store for our monthly in-person Monumental Mondays open mic showcases. In February 2020, we hosted our first in-person gathering of the year at The Depot. A number of vendors and performance artists joined us to celebrate. We were then struck with a global pandemic and had to revise our outreach efforts to carry out our goals for the remainder of the year.
During Spring and Summer 2020 in partnership with Baltimore’s entrepreneurs, performance and visual artists, we organized a series of weekly and weekend virtual events to help raise awareness of completing the 2020 Census questionnaire. As a result , we were able to reach over 10,000+ households across the area offering insights and answering questions for attendees.

Just in time for the Singapore Census2020.... I’m head of the household 😉
I like the “has sufficient financial support/means” option for the main reason for not working or not looking for a job 😜
I also hesitate with “taking a break”... for the past 22 years 😂
but I took it seriously and I put “Foreigner without a work pass” because it is what it is even more so now.

If you beautiful people see this in the mail, PLEASE FILL IT OUT!! Because this form is super important!! This form helps tell the government that your town, city, etc has MANY residents, and they’ll send money for hospitals, schools, roads that need repair, transportation, and MORE!!
As you see in the form above, this is what the envelope LOOKS LIKE!! Now let’s take a peek inside!!

You’ll receive the Census form, about 2 sheets containing more info about this event that happens once EVERY 10 years in America (we only got one chance you guys so make it count), and an empty envelope for you to mail your Census form back!
Due to COVID 19, they have extended the deadline of completing the Census, so that gives you lovely people more time to complete this in your own time!
Let’s look at all this stuff!

(don’t worry too much about this, it’s just them saying please fill out the form)

This last sheet contains info on how to change the language settings on their website if you wanna do it online (which I did, so this bearbear good ;p)

Now when you open the form, these are the first questions you should see, and fill in yourself!
If you are 13yrs old, or younger, ask for some guidance from your guardian, relative, or parent! Make sure all answers are accurate!

On pages 2 and afterwards, they’ll be repeating the same questions on how person 1 (you) is related to person 2 (insert name of person 2). You can report up to 10 people on the paper form!
Now this form should take about 10 minutes to complete! Once you are done, here is how you put away the form in the given envelope they sent you!

AND YOU’RE DONE!! Congrats!! You have done your area a great service!
BUT!! What if you have terrible handwriting?? Spilled coffee all over it?? Never received it?? Well if you have a cellphone or laptop, YOU CAN FILL OUT THE ONLINE VERSION FOR FREE!!
I completed mine online for free @ https://my2020census.gov/login!!! Took me less than 9 minutes to complete, and you can report more than 10 people for your address!! All your answers are confidential and will not be shared with the general public!
Also if you live in a apartment, and your landlord is asking all residents to fill out the census, and hand those forms to them so they can mail it for you, THAT IS ILLEGAL!!!
YOU should be the only one mailing that form yourself! Just remember to add the apartment number, and you’ll be set!
P.S, Also if you are a property manager or landlord yourself, and you’re unsure about what to do if your tenant is not submitting their census form, here is some info regarding the matter @ https://www.ajjcs.net/paper/main/2019/12/07/2020-census-what-apartment-managers-need-to-know/
Thank you for reading, and PLEASE REMEMBER THIS IS ALL FREE!! There have been fake Census representatives charging people to fill out this form!
Stay Safe!! Take Care everyone!!

As a librarian, I am required to remind you all to fill out your US Census for 2020. There is NO citizenship question. Simply tell the government stats people who lives with you and how old they are. You should have gotten an ID in your mailbox.
One thing I like to point out: NONE of this information gets back to your landlord or to your boss or your momma. This is all confidential for something like 75 years or so (I can’t remember the exact). The numbers used are in aggregate, to give non-profits, grant-makers, and the federal government an idea of where resources are needed and how they should be allocated.
So if you think more money should be spread to your neighborhood, respond to the Census.

When you fill out the census, you’re advocating for more representation in your community. As Gonzalo Casals, Commissioner, NYC Department of Cultural Affairs states, the more of us who fill out the census, the more money we get for NYC’s schools, roads, bridges, health care, housing, and more.
Show some solidarity for your fellow New Yorkers and fill out the census by September 30 at my2020census.gov.

It’s Census Day, Tumblr! We know this might not be the most exciting post on your dash today, but it might be the most important. The Census has the power to decide:
✔️The number of representatives your state sends to the House of Representatives
✔️Funding for schools, roads, and hospitals
✔️How we elect city council members, school boards, and other community officials
Join us in making an impact on our future for the decade to come by filling out the Census online today at 2020census.gov. 📲
