People in the fandom who think synths are mostly robot or don’t need to care for basic functions fell for Institute propaganda and have not been paying attention the the various examples of robot sentience past the gen 3 synths.

Not to be a nag about it but the Institute is very much like the synth equivalent of Tennpenny Tower for ghouls. A lot of the information they have is warped to make them seem less horrible about creating a type of human purely to enslave. To find out if a person is a synth is literally impossible with out prior knowledge or death of the synth. Synths regularly enough “gain consciousness” or yknow realize there is more out there beyond the Institute that it’s hard to say they don’t have sentience. Its fear, brainwashing and the very real fact that if they for a moment step out of line they (as they know themself) will be erased or straight up killed.

Even the robots in fallout have a sort of sentience. They may not be able to disobey their primary functions in certain cases but they have opinions on things and can get very opinionated about it. Prominent examples are Cogsworth, Curie, Yes-Man and Ada. I know the difference is one is distinctly believed to be masquerading as human but that’s literally their only “crime” if you can call it that.

It’s such easy bullshit to debunk with canon and a lot of the confusion comes from a lack of second thoughts. The Institute created synths for hyper specific and inhumane purposes. Why in Earth would they propagate information that says:

“Yeah these things are basically people that we made hella strong and forced in to subsigation through threats of death and mind wipe to the point they’d rather escape and have their memories of this place cleaned rather than live and remember their horrible treatment. But not they don’t have sentience or like human needs… I think.”

Like these are your guys? This is who you’re taking the word of? Wake up Commonwealth!

Playing Fallout 1 and noticing Necropolis disappear from the caravans is just. So perfect.

The game brings no attention to it. No one mentions it. The caravans just don’t go there anymore. It makes you wonder what happened, you solved all their problems already, right?

So now you have a reason to go back there, cause otherwise there’s really no reason too. And when you do, everyone is gone. There’s no more ghouls, just super mutants. They invaded, and there’s nothing you can do to stop them. Once you hit that date, the city is gone.

It’s frankly a brilliant moment of subtle storytelling and even though I already knew about Necropolis’ fate it still motivated me to go back, just to make sure.

I wonder how many people discovered it this way? I can only imagine just how effective this reveal is for someone actually playing the game blind.

-ben telling the £85 grinch story. i love whenever he struggles to finish telling an anecdote or reading a funny email bc he's crying with laughter, and there's no better example of this than that 😆

-"fanjambo" - how has this not been a part of their merch yet!! but really, the whole bit about them wanting there to be a codeword which politely tells people they don't want to chat is sooo relatable.

-their AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER journey! like across a series from henry seeing the trailer at the cinema, to all of them seeing the film eventually. it's sweet that mike went to see it so that the journey could be complete, but also funny bc i kinda love whenever he gets annoyed, bc that happens so rarely?

-might be recency bias bc i relistened a few weeks ago, but the entire "my hot air balloon ride" episode? the biscuits chat + henry steamrolling ben with the queueing for a falafael anecdote loll, but also ben's hot air balloon ride anecdote was absolutely worth him making it the ep's topic. (also the bit about the man who showed up on a horse, and mike's "what, just using his daughter's passport?")

-henry announcing he's "subscribed" to pret a manger - bc iirc i was in the uk right before that ep came out and i saw those "club pret" posters several times, so it was a real "i know exactly what he's talking about even though i'm not british" moment. but i do love pret tbh so i love whenever he brings it up!!

This reminds me of my brother💜 he doesn’t remember lots of things but I love to tell him stories about when he was small. There’s over a decade between us and so our childhoods and lives are very different. But when he did a parenting style assignment for his class he told me wrote “about how I raised him”. He told classmates that he doesn’t really remember our parents raising him, he remembers me. And that makes every second I spent being more responsible than I should have had to be absolutely worth it.

turns out that at my current level of degraded health, both physically and mentally I can get about an hour of work done throughout the day.

didn't count cooking for it but it wouldn't have added much time anyways.

niki initially came over to bake cookies with you. you'd been begging him for weeks to try out a new recipe you were eyeing, and he finally gave in.

the kitchen is cozy, yet messy. warm lighting spills from the ceiling lamp, flour already dusted across the counter, and the air smells like vanilla extract and cookie dough.

oh, and the sound of niki pecking you every two minutes fills the room.

"okay, now we add the butter.." you mumble, transferring the bowl of melted butter to your bowl of dry ingredients.

you feel a wet kiss land on your neck, and niki's hands are still glued to your waist from behind, fingers gently gripping the skin under your hoodie.

he plants a few more kisses on your neck, turning slightly so he can trail them along your jaw, to your cheek, and eventually, your lips.

"ki, i can't see what 'm—doing!" you whine in between kisses, your view blocked by his messy dark hair.

"my bad, princess," he sarcastically says, faking a pout as he offers to help you whisk the wet and dry ingredients.

"okay, now we can add the chocolate chips!" you cheer, wasting no time tearing open the bag of milky-sweet chocolate chips and dumping them into the mixture.

he tugs you closer by your waist again, his lips pressing sweetly on yours. you give him a playfully annoyed look—one that says stop annoying me but don’t actually stop.

"what, baby? can't kiss my girlfriend anymore?" he teases, hands trailing down from your waist to lightly squeeze the flesh of your ass. he hums into the kiss, and a soft whimper slips from your lips, your hands hooking around his neck.

"at least help me finish this.." you mumble, pulling away. he rolls his eyes dramatically, but still helps you mold the dough into soft circles and line them up on the tray.

he sneaks a few chocolate chips, popping them in his mouth with zero shame. "can't you wait, ki? stop eating them!" you giggle, slapping his arm before placing the cookies in the oven.

"can i have you now?" he sighs, as if his hands hadn’t been on you the entire time. you throw your head back with a laugh, mumbling a fond little "yes."

the entire fifteen minutes waiting for the cookies to bake is spent tangled in each other.

niki has you propped up on the counter, his hands resting on your hips while yours loop around his shoulders. your soft lips move against his plump ones, savouring the sweet taste of his mouth.

ding. the timer goes off, the cookies now ready, but when you try to get down, his large hands hold your hips in place.

"wait angel, want you.." he murmurs, lips crashing into yours again as his hands reach up to thread his fingers through your soft hair.

"riki, do you want the cookies to burn?" you scold, caught off guard by using his full name. he falters for a second before smirking.

"what if i want them to? more time for us to make out," he says smugly. your jaw drops as you slap his chest.

"ki!"

your baking sessions with niki were always your favorite—not just because you got to make something sweet, but because he never could keep his hands off you. and that's what you found sweet.
