There’s a heaviness in my chest that, quite frankly, has been with me my entire life.

A knot in my throat that tightens every time I see another headline, another family torn apart.

And it’s not just any family—it’s families like mine.

Mexican families. Immigrant families.

The ones who gave up everything—for safety, for a future, for their children.

You watch your parents work two, sometimes three jobs.

They come home with aching bodies and still manage to smile, to ask how your day was.

All to protect you from the weight of their reality.

But like many eldest daughters in immigrant families, you grow up carrying a quiet fear:

What if one day, they’re just… not there?

All I can do is pray, hope,

and hold my breath until I hear the front door open again.

I can’t wrap my head around living in a system that refuses to see their humanity.

We are not invisible.

We are not disposable.

We are the backbone of this country.

And we deserve more.

With the talented @hallebailey cast as Disney’s Ariel for the live action film, @yarashahidi playing Tinkerbell for Peter Pan & Wendy, and today Latina actress @rachelzegler (Colombian & Polish descent) was cast as Snow White for the live action adaption - we’re starting to see diversity (finally) make waves in The Disney sphere. & this truly matters and We want to share this passage from the @adl_national to expand on it: “Many fans and several celebrities praised and applauded the choice of a Black woman to play Ariel. They expressed how essential it is to have racial representation. Young people should be able to see themselves reflected in all aspects of media. Since so few women of color historically have been cast as Disney princesses, it felt to many like it was “about time.”” As a Latina, who loved Snow White as a little girl, I felt my heart expand with the news of a Zegler being cast as the titular role. ��️ Our platform advocates for inclusive, diverse representation in the media - especially when it comes to lead roles. We hope to see more talented, diverse people of color portray lead roles, casts, and behind the scenes. For production companies to take diversity seriously - not tokenizing people of color to clear themselves of doing the work on a continuous basis. We want to end this by sharing words from @nolamarianna on Brandy’s portrayal as Cinderella (1997): “No, my skin might not be as white as snow, but it was beautiful and brown like Brandy’s. My hair wasn’t blonde and flowy but it rose up in crowning glory like Whitney Houston’s.
