Curt Boettcher - If You Only Knew (1969)
Supposedly this is a demo (the Sunshine Company recorded it), but it’s wonderful sunshine pop from the maestro.
What a funny looking glass to see the light

2/5/24.
Another Bandcamp Friday has come and gone. The best news of that day (for me at least) was the announcement of a new BMX Bandits LP. The "Dreaded Light" soundtrack was an excellent addition to the canon, but it wasn't Duglas' normal pop fare. "Dreamers on the Run" is slated for a late April release, and Tapete Records states that this LP is BMX Bandits' "most musically ambitious so far". Two pop gems are available right now, so it will be interesting to see what the rest of the LP brings us.
You can preorder the 2LP on Tapete's webpage. Their order page mentions Martin Newell, Jonathan Richman and Curt Boettcher as touchstones. Monorail Music is offering signed copies as well (Duglas Stewart is based in Glasgow and has been a friend and collaborator of Stephen Pastel (McRobbie) for years).
Finally, if you find yourself loving BMX Bandits, you should really listen to The Lookyloos.

Aahh i saw your recommendation with The Millennium and i just wanted to tell you they are one my comfort band. Love their albums Begin, i somewhat wish they made more than one album beside that
NO WAY!!! Omg I'm so happy to hear you're a fan of The Millennium as well, it's such a rarity when people have even HEARD of them!! Begin is totally up there as one of my favourites too, and it really is a shame they never got the kudos they deserved at the time :(
Have you listened to Sagittarius, the Ballroom or some of the other songs that Curt Boettcher worked on? Not all that stuff sounds exactly like the sunshine pop sound on Begin, but the quality of production and songwriting is still so excellent.

Celestial Music | Vinyl Williams - ‘Aeterna’ Out This Friday
Celestial music has a vastly unknown history, the phrase first being coined in the early 70s by Iasos, Greek-American musician who began studying Bossa Nova & Jazz, before he became enraptured by an ambient radio station that began playing in his head. Alan Watts, a friend of Iasos, was quoted in stating “Iasos makes the classical music of the new age” – which gave rise to the musical genre. Music pioneers like Laraaji have found their own center in expressing celestial music, emanating his own aspects of Eastern mysticism & unique forms of meditation, proven to make you bliss out f’days. In the last few decades we’ve seen celestial music work its way into pop. Vinyl Williams is an LA-based artist that has a history of combining these subtle aspects into harmonious pop music & visionary artwork. Collaborating with like-minded self-producers such as Chaz Bear of Toro Y Moi, Morgan Delt, and Ruban Nielsen of UMO, & Samira Winter he’s built a universe of palatial 3D environments, and recorded 6 albums to date. Vinyl Williams is now onto his 7th album, Aeterna, announced for an August 4th release via Harmony Records. On the album, he leads the listener through his most orchestrated exoplanet experience thus far. You can pre-order the album here. Coming from a long line of LA-based musicians, Williams follows the feelings of Love, Brian Wilson, Strawberry Alarm Clock, and producer/arrangers like Curt Boettcher and Burt Bacharach to create his own lush sunshine pop paradise. One can also easily notice the many inspirations of Brazilian masterminds such as Arthur Verocai, Lo Borges, Nelson Angelo, as well as British dream pop / shoegaze production of Robin Guthrie and A.R. Kane. The many-riveted layers create dreamscapes of pure imagination. Williams has also invented his own system of understanding relationships, which is the music of birthdays. An app will be launched this year - allowing users to hear the precise microtonal music of their birthdays, and receive descriptions of what the intervals might mean. The Vinyl Williams website is an interactive treasure hunt where you can find the full album if you follow the clues, plus some hidden demos of different projects. Read the full article

9/8/23.
Today is the 2,500th post.
Slumberland has been really active lately. I love that they're releasing work by lesser known bands. I'd never heard of New Jersey based band lightheaded.
Their Bandcamp descriptor says they're power poppin their way through their music. I wouldn't describe this as power pop, and I'm not sure I would describe it as pop. It is definitely indie pop of a certain sort - it immediately made me think of The Aislers Set and Comet Gain and Tele Novella. Slumberland mentions the songwriting of Curt Boettcher (check out the new Sundazed LP of Sandy Salisbury and Curt Boettcher).
I love that the name of the album is "Good Good Great". Indeed.

Eternity's Children - Your World (1968)
I’ve been on a bit of a sunshine pop kick lately. I posted a song a while back by the Gordian Knot who were from Mississippi, and strangely enough, so were Eternity’s Children. Produced by Curt Boettcher and Keith Olsen, this song has such a great sound,
