What's K.O. CRISIS?

Hey all. Over the past couple months, I've gotten a lot of followers who probably don't know about my OCs and portfolio projects that I'm also working on, so I'm making a quick master-post for it!

K.O. CRISIS is a series of artwork––character designs, illustrations, sketches, and animations––inspired by late-90s/early-2000s anime and Y2K culture.

Set in an alternate-history Los Angeles in the year 2001, the story follows disabled Taiwanese-American Ashley Tang as she fights her way to the top of the bracket in the national augmented boxing championship.

As the youngest female fighter in the championship, she'll have to fight tooth-and-nail to defend her place amongst the heavy-weights. While her rare dual arm prosthetics help even the playing fields, it'll take more than brute strength to prove her worth.

But this isn't a story about an underdog triumphing against all odds. Throughout the story, Ashley will push herself to the limit for the sake of validating her existence under the grinding heel of the sports media machine, in a world that values disabled bodies more than their lives. As the championship rages on, one question seems to linger through the roar: Is Ash strong enough to win, or is she brave enough to quit?

Through the project, I'm hoping to explore representations of prosthetic-users in pop culture as "enhanced superheroes," as well as discussions of trans-humanism under medical capitalism, the fetishization of new technology, and the commodification of disabled people as entertainment.

Accompanying her journey include characters like Noora Balakrishnan, a local transfem prosthetics engineer who doubles as Ashley's ringside mechanical cutwoman.

The project is still in its early stages, especially since I sorta rebooted it earlier this year (meaning I'm no longer using past, outdated art for the project). If you enjoy it, you can find more artwork for the project under the #ko crisis tag!

If Lucy appears as a Fixer for Phantom Liberty....

Imagine we get a mission called “I Wanna Stay At Your House” and it involves retrieving David’s remains and once we do, Lucy cremates them and we see his urn containing his ashes sitting next to Gloria’s in Lucy’s place. Also if you get high enough friendship with Lucy, we get a segment where you and Lucy are at some karaoke singing “People Like Us” together and maybe Lucy’s guilt over David dying and when she finds out about the whole chip situation, she assures V that they won’t end up like another David.

Also we unlock a new ending where after V becomes an engram, Lucy contacts a saddened Takemura (if he survived) who’s trying to find a better host for V but comes up unsuccessful and has sort of become V’s successor trying to keep the peace between his friends and keeping what happened a secret. Lucy tells Takemura to deliver a package revealing an RMC Gemini body (the one Adam Smasher used to have sex with Michiko Arasaka) that looks like V as Takemura returns to the space station and finds V’s biochip before giving a smile.

Smash cut to a shuttle on the moon as “I Wanna Stay At Your House” plays as it lands revealing V in a space suit coming out of it (if V romanced Judy, then she can arrive too) and sees Lucy who smiles at them. The end shot is V (and maybe Judy) watching the Earth as Lucy smiles knowing she redeemed herself.

Or if V committed suicide then Lucy contacts V deeply angry and saddened with implications that’s turning either going cyber-psycho or just cutting herself off from everyone thinking that she’s cursed.

So Panam. I love her. She's honestly great. Great character, great design. It's such a shame you can't romance her as the female body, female voice V. Actually sucks. BUT as I've played through her quests, I've developed a nice little story in my head about her and my V…

They are BESTIES. Absolute chaotic besties. Like straight up, "this is my new best friend" vibes. V wants to blow some shit up? Call Panam with a job (when she isn't busy!)

V def flirted with her when they first met but Panam was like "uhhh….sorry no?"

V: UNDERSTANDABLE, HAVE A NICE DAY.

V shrugged it off, but they just continued on as normal. Did not take them long before they found a common interest.

These two are the epitome of "share the same brain cell." Judy has never met Panam but V talks about her a LOT. And it kinda irks her sometimes. Like "damn what is so good about this Panam woman? She better not be interested in her…."

(Neither of them are interested in each other but the "flirty/fuck you" way they talk to each other could fool anyone).

And then Judy meets Panam and she's like "yep nvm that makes sense they are literally the same brand of idiot."
