The Natural History Museum in London has announced a major programme of transformation it says will mark “a step-change from being a catalogue of natural history to a catalyst for change” in response to the climate emergency.
The scheme to renovate the museum’s celebrated Victorian building and develop a new research and storage facility will build on its aim to turn visitors into “advocates for the planet"
Four existing galleries will be overhauled, including its enormously popular dinosaur gallery, while the museum plans to reopen two long-closed exhibition spaces, one of which, the Old General Herbarium, has not been accessible to the public since 1948.
One of them will house a new permanent exhibition that the museum’s director, Doug Gurr, said would include the most explicit climate messaging it had ever offered. The exhibition, Fixing Our Broken Planet, will have the express aim of “nudging” visitors to change their behaviour, he said.
The new exhibition spaces will be freed up by the creation of a purpose-built storage, research and digitisation centre at Thames Valley Science Park near Reading, to which more than a third of the museum’s enormous natural history collection will be moved from its “unsuitable, unsustainable” current home.
The museum said this was “so we can take better care of it and more easily share its data with scientists all over the world who are finding solutions to problems like climate change, biodiversity loss and food security.”
Until recently, Gurr told the Guardian, the museum had seen itself as a “passive observer … our job was to collect, to conserve, to research, to display”.
“[Then] we stepped back a bit and said: ‘Well, hang on, if your subject matter is planet Earth and it’s under that much threat, you’ve got to do something about it. If you want the sporting analogy: how do you get off the sidelines and get on the pitch?”
In 2020 the museum declared a planetary emergency, and Gurr said the redevelopment was part of its continuing response. “The best contribution we can make is to create what we call ‘advocates for the planet’. And what that really means is: how do you inspire people at scale to care about nature and to care enough to want to do something about it?
“Of course, we still want people to have a brilliant, fun family day out. But if you can come out of that being a little bit more interested in nature and a little bit more aware of some of the challenges, you’re a bit more likely to want to do something about it.”
The overhaul of the South Kensington site is due to be completed in time for the museum’s 150th anniversary in 2031. The bulk of the funding will come from the government, which has already committed more than £200m to the new collections and research centre, while a further £155m will fund a museum-led programme to digitise natural science collections in the UK. In addition, the museum announced plans to raise £150m from philanthropic and commercial sponsors.
Gurr said the museum was happy to “talk to everybody” about potential sources of sponsorship but would not accept donations from firms it saw as unacceptable partners based on their climate record. “We are very, very clear that when we talk to [a potential sponsor], we’re going to look at the actual behaviour versus the statements,” he said.
Gurr said the museum had turned down “significant” sums in the past “where we just felt it wouldn’t be appropriate to accept at this point, because we’re acutely aware that you can’t go around asking people to change behaviour and save the planet if you’re then hypocritical in some of the gifts you accept”.
He would not be drawn on the position taken by other institutions such as the Science Museum and the British Museum, both of which have highly controversial funding relationships with energy firms, but he said: “It is factual that we have not accepted any funding from fossil fuel companies.”
The museum recently redeveloped its outdoor space into two new gardens focusing on evolution and biodiversity, and Gurr said it hoped to expand its education programme, encouraging schools to exploit their own outdoor space and enhance their climate and nature teaching.

Visiting The Titanic Is Suddenly A Lot Easier Than You Think
Fresh Advances in 3D Scanning Technology are Making It Possible to Explore Some of the Hardest-to-Reach and Most Fragile Sites on Earth.
— By Camille Bromley | April 8, 2025

This rendering of the Titanic is based on 715,000 photos and millions of laser scans of the famous wreck, which were stitched together to create a perfect digital replica of what remains of the ship. Image By Magellan Limited/Atlantic Productions
Last year, Parks Stephenson stood next to the Titanic and walked slowly around it, gazing up at the massive ship. He paused to look inside one of the boiler rooms and at the position of the controls on the engines. He noticed the number 401, the ship’s ID, etched on the propeller blades. Rusticles hung from the steel shell. Twisted metal and personal trinkets from those long dead littered the ground.
Stephenson, a retired naval officer and Titanic historian, wasn’t 12,500 feet below the surface of the North Atlantic, of course. He was in London, inspecting the ship’s digital twin: a one-for-one computer model made possible by advances in remote 3D scanning and mapping technology. The model is so densely detailed, a video rendering of it can be projected to life-size in a warehouse, where researchers can walk alongside it and zoom in and out on individual features, like a steam valve from the boiler room, which the scan revealed was left open, possibly to keep an emergency generator running as the ship sank. The Titanic twin adds to a growing list of similar models made of archaeological and cultural sites around the world that both preserve these fragile places and provide a new means of exploring them.
Stephenson has seen the actual Titanic wreck twice since his first dive in 2005, but he didn’t catch so many details on his trips. “You can only see what’s immediately in front of you,” he says of peering through a submersible’s roughly six-inch viewport and camera views. “It’s like being in a dark room and you have a flashlight that’s not very powerful.” The digital twin, on the other hand, gave him an unobstructed, 360-degree view of every gnarled nook and cranny.
The scan of the storied ship was carried out over three weeks in 2022 by Magellan, a deep-sea mapping company based in the Channel Islands. Titanic: The Digital Resurrection, a new National Geographic documentary streaming on Disney+, tells the story of the effort. It is the largest underwater 3D scan ever made, amounting to 16 terabytes of data (equivalent to the hard drive footprint of six million e-books). To create it, two remote-operated robots romantically named Romeo and Juliet traveled down to the wreck and systematically canvassed the site, taking some 715,000 photos and millions of laser measurements.
For Stephenson, the quality of detail in the scan opens new lines of inquiry into the sinking of the Titanic. The ship lies broken in two pieces, with the bow and stern about 2,600 feet apart. The hull descended in a straight line and is largely still intact—the scan shows it neatly wedged into the ocean floor. The stern, on the other hand, is shattered, and researchers have never been able to definitively say how that happened. When Stephenson looked at the scan, though, he could immediately envision the back half of the ship spiraling as it sank and disintegrating into rubble. “At a first glance,” he says, “it just made sense.”
In the past, a full, grand scale of the wreck could be depicted only through artistic renditions or photomosaics created by humans. Neither method conveyed precise verisimilitude. The machine-run 3D model, however, is exact. “As soon as I saw the Titanic digital twin images,” Stephenson says, “I could tell. Number one, I’d never seen Titanic like this before. And number two, it felt right.”

The quest to create exact models for more accessible surveying started over a century ago. The technology that makes digital twinning possible dates back to at least 1858, when a German engineer named Albrecht Meydenbauer was tasked with surveying a church and nearly fell to his death while measuring the facade. To avoid another dangerous climb, he worked out a way to mathematically calculate the measurements of large objects from photos—a technique he called photogrammetry. Today photogrammetry combined with lidar, which uses lasers to measure distances, as well as advanced computing power, produces models that can accurately replicate the most minute details of enormous structures like Mount Rushmore or the aesthetic proportions of Michelangelo’s “David.”
The Italian Renaissance master’s sculpture was one of the first major artifacts to be digitally modeled, in 2000, by Stanford University. Though not as massive as the Titanic, the statue’s relatively large size—17 feet tall and 12,500 pounds—and finely chiseled details made it a good test for how accurately 3D technology might reproduce objects on a grand scale. Today the tech is so precise that in 2020 a team at the University of Florence produced a 3D-printed copy, accurate down to David’s resolute expression and every defect of the original stone.
People travel to see masterpieces of human creativity because they want to feel the presence of something awesome or genius. But too much of our presence can destroy places that are irreplaceable. Hundreds have visited the Titanic, most of them at enormous expense, including five on the ill-fated Titan submersible. These explorers are the source of significant damage suffered by the wreck; human-piloted submersibles have inadvertently stripped a mast and gashed the bow.
Beyond tourism, sites may be unpredictably damaged by natural disasters, climate change, or war. In 2019, 3D documentation company CyArk created models of Nigeria’s Osun-Osogbo Sacred Grove, just before the sculpture-laden forest shrines were destroyed in a flood. Chance Coughenour, a program manager for Google Arts & Culture, which supported CyArk in these efforts and hosts these models online, hopes the shrines can be rebuilt from the scans. Coughenour’s group supported similar efforts to create digital twins of a cathedral and a historic government landmark in Ukraine that are now damaged by the war.

Treasured cultural sites, like St. George’s Cathedral, a World Heritage site in Lviv, Ukraine, have been digitized inside and out. If they are ever damaged by climate change, a natural disaster, or war, they can be rebuilt from the copy. Photograph By Matt Propert; Rendering By Andriy Hryvnyak, SkeIron
On an even grander scale, digital twins can be made of not only buildings, statues, and shipwrecks but also entire cities—living or dead. Allison Emmerson, an archaeologist at Tulane University, is making a digital twin of parts of Pompeii, a famously fragile site where she’s spent the past 16 years digging through layers of soil to uncover the city’s earliest history. Emmerson says digital twinning is the biggest leap forward for archaeology since photography. “Our process is inherently destructive,” she says of excavating a site. “We can never redo it. We can dig the site once. And so the focus in modern archaeology has been on recording as well as we possibly can.”
Her team’s twin of a block in the southeast of the city was made with just a few handheld cameras. The model allows them to visualize the site with the walls of a room taken away, or a roof added, or how the land looked before the building was constructed. They can call up the model back in the lab and continue conversations that previously would happen only in the field. Emmerson’s work has revealed how one building at the site was both a restaurant and a workshop where people manufactured reed baskets and mats—details that help her understand the city’s economy and the daily life of its working class.
For Her Part, Emmerson plans to make her model of Pompeii and the accompanying findings available to the public, avoiding a common outcome for these projects. Because digital twins are expensive to create, many ambitious projects end up locked way in the private archives of universities or governments. “I did not want the model to live on a team member’s laptop,” she says.
While Magellan has not announced any plans to make its Titanic scans free to the public, the documentary itself shows what’s possible. Much of the existing research on the shipwreck has been conducted by private expeditions that guard findings, an ongoing source of concern for scientists and citizen enthusiasts alike. Stephenson remains concerned the wreck is not being treated as an archaeological site. “It’s one of the most famous sites in the world, and we don’t even have the basic baseline information needed to establish what’s there at any particular time, because you’ve had different explorers who don’t share information,” he says. The digital twin has the potential to allow more visitors to experience it in a less destructive and more collaborative way.
It’s unlikely people will stop going to the Titanic wreck site. Its draw has proven irresistible for those with enough money and motivation. In 2001, for example, a couple exchanged vows crouched in a submersible perched on the bow. A digital twin “certainly doesn’t replace sitting on the deck of the Titanic,” says Robert Ballard, an oceanographer and National Geographic Explorer at Large who discovered the wreck in 1985 along with Jean-Louis Michel. But he thinks it will help preserve the wreck. For those who cannot resist going themselves, he offers two warnings: “Don’t touch it. Don’t get married on it.”

HYVANN: Gyganos soldier
Origins
=3044 A.D. the 30th Gaian Century=
Humanity was the in the middle of a great era, an era of understanding, growth, and independence thanks to the efforts and sacrifices of many across the years. From this prideful spirit came the desire to venture into the many unknowns that besieged our world and beyond, with one of the first steps being earthbound in origin, the formation of the Southern Cross government in the Antarctic continent of the South Pole; from which many scientific studies and expeditions across the icy caps and snow filled fields of the pole were carried out by insightful scholars in the field. Unfortunately...this desire would prove to be one of the first steps into a drastic shift for our race and our future...
In the Eve of Christmas, a group of scientists would uncover...a creature of great size, and with it a forgotten den...a temple, filled with never-to-be-seen markings and artifacts that belonged to an unknown civilization! Like locusts they took what they could to their homelands for further inspection outside the harsh Antarctic soil, unknowingly triggering the rise of a foreboding force of great power and vile design.
Much to the terror and dismay of the science division of the UK plus the company backing them up, "Nina", their so-called mistress of secrets..woke up from a prolonged slumber and wasted no time in bringing fire and ash to these foolish humans. Simultaneously via a special telepathic/Synaptic link...triggered a special command to the temple to rise back up in the South Pole! The Swarm known to this day as the ZARKRYGON had thus made contact with humankind and has turned the once "prosperous" city of London and most of the UK into a Hive fortress, and so was the South Pole with the rise of their Babel-ish Tower of Bioengineering.
In response, plus several alliances forged for the salvation of Earth, from which the past was brushed off, would see the kickstart of Project Talos; from which the Gyganos Soldier Battalions were formed and deployed across the globe as the ultimate force of defense and offense against the many odds stacked against them by the Zarkrygon Swarm!
The Gyganos Soldiers
[PS: Due to the highly secretive nature of their development, most if not all of the information regarding to their origin is highly secured and only accessable for high command, so unfortunately we won't be able to learn the creation, therefore birth of these Mecha Goliaths and therefore Hyvann's birth]
•Height: 100 [approximately]
•weight: 737 [approximately, without equipment]
•Occupant Accommodation: none
•Physique/build: outside of their bulky appearance seen in combat, one of the most interesting details about them is that behind their Masker Plates..hide an androgynous visage that we can't quite pin down why was this design applied in the first place [we can't deny however that it ain't pretty or awe inspiring to see].
•Equipment: [we only have data in regards to standard equipment, but suffice to say that it is known that they have more than what you see here]
•Speed: Despite their bulky and clunky appearance, the Gyganos Soldiers are fast troopers, often throwing off enemies by the fact that something that hulking shouldn't be moving "that fast" on the battlefield! [Speed: Approximately 50-70 km sprinting]
•Strength: still to be determined/ambiguous, but they definitely pack a strong punch! Stronger than any known artillery or machinery in Earth's history and of course surpassing humans by design.
Hyvann [Pronounced as Hi-van]
Hyvann comes from the 118th Battalion known as "Leviathan", as previously said their origin/birth is unknown/classified outside of the propaganda/news coverage which claims "the Gyganos Army are the culmination of Engineering and A.I., all in perfect synchrony to build the ultimate warrior against the ultimate foe." What we do know well about Hyvann is somewhat of a shared trait the Gyganos Army have with each trooper, that is a life-like personality but for Hyvann's spotlight in this file we know that they're a modest, grounded, and introspective individual, composed even in the most harshest of environments; however that doesn't mean they won't just idle and when the moment presents itself, they can dish-out a rather "snarky callback" on the scene, a juxtaposition between being humble and poised.
Unfortunately, that's where we'll end this file by wishing Hyvann and their Battalion the best of luck.
Godspeed, and may Gaia light your way...
Behind the Scenes
•The Gyganos Army/Hyvann, their aesthetic is heavily inspired/influenced by the incredible work of Mech/Art Designer Makoto Kobayashi of Dragon's Heaven & Armored Core fame, going with that blend between Biology and Machinery that in the end produce a dream-like yet functional fusion with his Mecha; all in part thanks to French Artist Moebius being an influence seen in his illustrations.
•Hyvann, if described with all honesty is essentially my take on Shaian from Dragon's Heaven, that mellow yet big presence, almost like having a "big mech papa" or "chunky bud" if that makes sense [unless you've seen the OVA].
•In-Universe Newspaper snippet: I added a shout-out to DeviantArt artist & good buddy of mine, Feyzer for being a great dude in helping me out whenever I advance on my Original Works; he came up with the nickname "Nina" for this <X)
Link to his page if you want to check him out
[PS: I will make a post exclusively focused on the Zarkrygon and "what we know about them so far"]
I'm open for honest feedback and your thoughts on the comments below ^u^ 👇

RESIDENCY: Shadow Lake
FACECLAIM: Dev Patel
IF I DIE YOUNG
SPECIES: Werewolf
WOLF CLASSIFICATION: Omega
PACK AFFILIATION: Member
LAY ME DOWN IN A BED OF ROSES
Trigger Warning: Death
If you could ask God a question, what would it be?
Such a thing should not have made the boy think, facts and figures was what he knew to be true not prayers and wishes, yet hands clasped and staring at the image adorned with flowers, there were many things he wanted to ask for, wish for, though what could be granted? It was one thing to be born human and another thing entirely to feel human.
Life had been strange in a strange sort of way, powerless yet surrounded by power, strange in a curious way, eager to know, eager to want, but that wish could not be granted no matter the prayer. A child born from a union of a human and witch had a chance of having powers, but when Dhruv did not grow into any he swore there was a sigh of relief from his mother, it was easier she said, safer, the world is dangerous for people of that kind. Questions on why ended with explanations that could not satiate the boy’s inquisitive mind, why nots were met with shrugs, and the ones that were answered did not contain the level of detail Dhruv required and thus began the journey of discovery — why were things the way they were?
You never quite forget your first punnett square. The moment Dhruv came to what that was and how genetics influenced the way people received certain traits he ran to his parents, eyes wide thinking he had cracked the code – in a way he had, but in many other ways he had not. Not born within the miraged safety of Lunar Cove, he automatically became an outsider but also a secret keeper of sorts, an entirely different world confined and existed outside of the London he grew up in to which he was whisked away at a young age, yet it could not have been all that different could it? His cousin spoke of the same things, of friends and school, of hobbies and interests, he could relate yet those friends were magical while his weren’t, he was not being taught power control, there was no way he could understand when Mason talked about such things being hard work chances for him ever getting to experience that only squashed further and further as he aged.
Sensing Dhruv’s forlorn state after those phone calls, his father imparted a simple statement that embedded itself into his heart and soul; ‘somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known’ and it was go from there. Everything held a new-found beauty, every theorem, every subatomic particle, all the principles he studied contained a rightness and the knowledge only added to the excitement and the awe. Bright, gifted kid turned into a confident, genius man with achievements and degrees under his belt before his peers. He did not need to have eidetic memory like his father to state complex physics formulas at the drop of a hat, they took practice, yes, but paved way for a slight arrogance that developed over time with every correct answer. He was self-assured, one could try to disprove his statements but Dhruv’s mind grew to be like a spreadsheet, data accessible almost instantaneously, and he only strengthened that. Always pushing on the why, on that thirst to discover something, if not within himself then at least with the world he knew and grew up in. He may not understand magic but Science and Mathematics held answers and provided rational explanations for things, the why and how, they were constant and consistent and Dhruv knew, one day, he’d have all the answers.
Time moved and so did he. Family, friends, education, Dhruv fell into a steady flow but of course, as clever as he was known to be, he couldn’t possibly predict all things. A held gaze across the bar sparked a new kind of curiosity, a drink and a conversation later he realised he did not have all the answers yet, that there could be joy in figuring out something together. Chemistry was one of his favourite branches of science, the study of matter, but what truly mattered? What possibly existed beyond the composition and structure of elements? This. Chemistry was in the ebb and flow of easy conversation, in the sparkles of laughter mixed with soft smiles, Dhruv did not need to be a genius to figure this was something good. Numbers were exchanged and dates were set, and it continued to be good. Perhaps he had made a mistake to pray this would last, to wish for more sunsets and something more because he couldn’t have expected this. A seemingly ordinary day should not have been a cause for concern, but the note held little answers, the unanswered texts and phone calls that only grew in number were effort exerted in a futile way. He did not know what drove them away but it festered as something bitter within him. But time moved and so did he.
Lunar Cove had not been on the radar, in fact, he desire to step foot in that town had waned to a negligible thing, but his parents who had moved to the town a long while ago, wished for their son to join them, figuring with all the chances the outside world had to offer were taken and experienced it was time to come home. True home. Dhruv could’ve argued, and he had a little, there was so much more he could not be confined in that magical barrier but soon grew weary listening to their lectures and with a recent heartbreak that had yet to heal, he agreed.
Dhruv could study life down to the exact atom, life, however, as he had and would continue to soon discover could not be confined to the nucleus of a man and his strive for that something else, life weaved and danced to its own beat that could not be quantified. Song Seo-Joon’s arrival into his life was met with some hesitancy, and that reflected in Seo-Joon too, but the pair struck a chord despite nothing pointing to a friendship working out, it did. They talked about things, bonded on the feeling of not having magic, and Dhruv obviously subjected his friend to his rambles about theories and experiments. It was one such night, where he finished up on work, while Seo-Joon waited, that things in his life shifted again. Except the moments that define lives aren't always obvious, they don’t always scream wolf in the piercing of a needle into skin. But that’s what happened. A careless slip and a careful catch, their lives forever changed yet it was Dhruv’s heart that beat in quiet fear over their discovery, one that would have no choice but to mask as excitement. Everything forward and backwards read entirely new. Genetic structure altered to fit in this new form. Starting into a mirror, the silhouette reflected a similar, recognisable curious glance that a human once wore, but who was he now? A man, but not human, not entirely. What was he? A wolf? Could he claim to be one? The prodding uncovered one only thing: he was something strange and unnatural — he was an experiment.
Gravitational acceleration is a known constant, the mass of the action could be gauged, could he then use it to calculate the weight of a lost future?
They bent the truth but they had not failed, not entirely, a loss led to a breakthrough and cover-ups that followed made way for accolades and awards, still, an ache burned deep, this could've been something to celebrate, to smile and accept the congratulations and though those were done, it felt different from his expectations. He had an answer to something, yet it did not feel correct, he did not feel correct. Utterly lost even though there was more that could be studied, more that could be attained, Dhruv retreated into himself in the following weeks, mood worsening to be told by the Song family that Seo-Joon seemed to have skipped town. That wasn't like him, but not finding the man anywhere and texts being ignored there wasn’t much he could do. Life was just funny that way.
He stayed in Lunar Cove for a while with K labs taking research projects that he could, and joined the pack too, to have some sort of aid for this new form of his, but adjusting was tough, and tougher still was dealing with the Alpha. Nico, while goodhearted, did not, in his opinion, know what he was doing. There was care and acceptance but in the constant onslaught of unimaginable horrors, Nico’s attitude rubbed him wrong. It was one thing to want to protect everyone, a good trait one could possess, yet to only care for a select when the pack was supposedly family? Dhruv couldn’t see any bit of logic to that. A good man did not make a good leader. This led to many quiet disagreements, voicing some when things could not be held in for too long, which when expressed were dished with heavy scrutiny, but he withdrew before things got truly heated. He wanted so desperately to put thoughts into action, to change things despite knowing it’d be foolish, but what could he do? Who would listen? Certainly not Nico, he only cared for his own and Dhruv was not one of them. With rank being the lowest in the hierarchy, he was too weak in more than one way, heck some even outright said he was hardly a wolf to begin with. An error. Didn't matter that he shifted alongside them, pack bond linking them all, Dhruv was not born nor bit, had not taken life to set about this new being he was. But in a way, hadn’t he? Given up his own life for this, that ought to count. It should have counted.
With no close friends to share such thoughts with and Seo-Joon still supposedly out of town, the bitterness that brew tipped the scales and in a move so utterly foolish but also somewhat thought through, he left Lunar Cove. Taking some time to explore the country before flying back to London to piece back his broken life. However, that feeling of brokenness and sense of feeling lost persisted. The news of Mason's death had him caught entirely by surprise and shocked him to the core. His cousin, happy and bright, should’ve had a long life ahead, not have it cut so short in such a way. The rush back to Lunar Cove was needed this time, for the funeral and also to somehow make sense of the untimely demise. Answers were pieced together in a blurred states of sorrow, confusion, anger and nostalgia. He had not planned to stick around long, but the sight of familiar faces, of old feelings resurfacing, Dhruv decided that perhaps staying would be more beneficial for now.

Inside AI Seed: How We Choose the AI Startups We Back
As Europe’s #1 AI-focused venture capital fund, AI Seed has backed over 40 early-stage AI startups since 2017. What sets us apart is a deeply technical due diligence process and a specialized investment model designed exclusively for artificial intelligence ventures.
Whether you're a founder building at the frontier of AI, or an investor seeking exposure to this transformative sector, here’s a transparent look at how we evaluate and support the companies we choose to back.
👉 Visit AI Seed to learn more
Our Rigorous AI Startup Due Diligence
In a space flooded with hype, AI startup due diligence is not just about ticking boxes—it's about distinguishing real innovation from noise. Our process is known across London’s tech ecosystem for its depth and precision.
1. Initial Tech Review
We begin by cutting through the marketing. Founders must show us their machine learning models—not just the product demo. We dig into the actual algorithms and infrastructure powering the company.
2. Deep Technical Assessment
If the tech is promising, we conduct a 1–2 day hands-on evaluation, performed by our Managing Partner or an associate from our network of AI experts. This culminates in a full Technical Due Diligence (Tech DD) report, which guides our investment decisions.
3. Collaborative Tech Roadmapping
We work closely with startups that pass our review to refine their technology roadmap, supporting them in building scalable, differentiated AI products. This stage often reveals whether the founding team can evolve from builders to category leaders.
What We Look For in AI Founders
Unlike traditional VCs, we specifically seek scientist-entrepreneurs—teams where at least one founder is a machine learning expert, often with a PhD or deep applied AI experience.
We assess:
Technical depth and credibility
Execution history and founder-market fit
Passion and clarity of vision
Ability to solve real, scalable problems using AI
This founder-first approach is critical to our strategy as a specialized early-stage AI VC fund.
Our Technology Evaluation Framework
Before we talk market size or go-to-market plans, we ask:
What is the core problem this AI is solving, and does the technology offer a true competitive advantage?
We use a structured framework that examines:
Intellectual Property
We assess the novelty and defensibility of algorithms, data pipelines, and model architectures—often looking for proprietary datasets or techniques that could form lasting moats.
Technical Feasibility
We scrutinize whether the AI product is actually deliverable using current technology, tools, and compute resources—not just in theory, but in practice.
The Tech Stack Pyramid
We visualize an AI company’s foundation as a pyramid:
Data Capture & Preprocessing
Infrastructure & Storage
Modeling & Deployment
Monitoring & Versioning
We evaluate each layer, especially the data layer, which often determines long-term defensibility and model performance.
Evaluating Market Potential
Of course, technology alone doesn’t make a company. We also rigorously evaluate:
Market size and growth trends
Competitive and regulatory environment
Timing and barriers to adoption
Business model scalability
We look for signs that the startup can graduate from POC-driven consulting to a standardized, repeatable product offering.
Post-Investment Support: Beyond Capital
Most investors stop at the cheque. We don’t.
AI startups face different challenges from standard SaaS ventures—longer R\&D cycles, talent scarcity, and more complex infrastructure. That’s why we provide:
AI Talent Access: We help portfolio companies recruit elite technical talent.
Go-to-Market Introductions: Commercial partnerships and warm intros to ideal early customers.
Transatlantic Expansion: Unique support for European AI startups breaking into the U.S. market via our Silicon Valley network.
Ongoing Technical Advice: We remain involved with founders as long-term thought partners—not just financial backers.
Why AI Seed Is Different
While other funds are chasing the AI boom, AI Seed is building it—company by company, founder by founder. Our hands-on, high-credibility approach enables startups to build real technology without being forced to compromise their product vision for short-term gains.
And the results speak for themselves: we've built Europe’s largest and best-performing AI-native portfolio, with an unmatched track record of investing in real, scalable AI innovation.
If you're building the future of AI—or looking to invest in it—we’d love to hear from you.

Title: The Quantum Carbuncle (Revised Edition) Human edit and polish.
Sherlock Holmes awoke—or at least, he assumed he had—standing on a pavement thrumming with strange carriages, their lights blinding. Dr. Watson clutched his arm.
“Holmes, either I’ve gone mad, or we’re no longer in London as we know it.”
"Indeed." Holmes murmurred.
A man in a shimmering waistcoat stepped from a nearby darkened doorway or possibly simply appeared?
His manner was confident, twirling a pocket watch. “Neither, Doctor. You’ve been temporally relocated.”
"Temporally?" Holmes fixated on the man and looked him up and down quickly. Before glancing around. "The shoes…I take it then you are a time traveler, possibly even a time wizard…"
Watson sputtered. “A time wizard?!”
The man grinned. "Astute as expected. I did match this time period closely but I do like comfortable shoes." Watson realized then eery glow of platform shoes that crackled. The time wizard continued. “A hobbyist, really. But I need your help. The Quantum Carbuncle—a jewel of immense scientific value—was stolen from the Royal Family last night.”
Holmes’ eyes narrowed. “And you plucked us from our era to retrieve it?”
“Precisely.”
The Briefing
The wizard led them to a glass-walled café. “The theft was impossible—guards saw nothing, lasers untouched. Only this was left.” He slid a small, glowing blue feather across the table.
Holmes lifted it. “Arctic cygnet. Rare even in our time. Tell me more about it.” The time wizard complied. Holmes steepled his fingers now fully engrossed. Watson relaxed a bit marveling at his composure. Holmes stared at ceiling briefly then abruptly. “Who stands to benefit from its theft?”
The wizard hesitated. “The research consortium that gifted it seeks royal favor. Their rivals—”
“—would humiliate them by stealing it,” Holmes finished. “The society pages, if you please.”
The wizard blinked. “The what?”
“The gossip sheets. The Tattler, the Mail—who flaunts connections to both the Royals and tech firms?”
The wizard pulled up a shimmering screen. Holmes scanned it, then tapped an image. “Her.”
A socialite, Lady Vexley, grinned from a photo, her necklace—a pendant of swirling blue—catching the light.
The wizard gasped. “Geez…it's right there. That’s impossible! The Carbuncle was in a vault! Article claims is a fake replica!!!"
Holmes smirked. “Thus why she wears it so boldly."
The Auction
A snap of fingers—they stood in a gilded hall, where billionaires bid on artifacts. Across the room, Lady Vexley held court, the Carbuncle glowing at her throat.
Watson whispered, “How do we prove it’s stolen?”
Holmes strode forward. “Madam, your pendant—fascinating. A replica of the Quantum Carbuncle?”
She stiffened. “Of course.”
“Odd. The true Carbuncle emits a subharmonic pulse.” He produced the feather. “This reacts to quantum energy. Let’s test yours.”
Before she could protest, he held the feather near the jewel. It flared blue. The crowd gasped.
Security surged forward.
The Twist
As Lady Vexley was led away, the wizard reappeared, stunned. “She wanted to be caught? But why?”
Holmes pocketed the feather. “Because human caprice and vanity are timeless partners. However the real theft wasn’t the jewel—it was the data inside it. This was a distraction.” He nodded to a man slipping out the door—a rival scientist, smirking.
The wizard groaned. “We stopped the wrong crime!”
Holmes shrugged. “Hardly. You have our vouchsafe for purpose of the crime. Is a political matter really."
The time wizard handled the rest apparently tolerated by high level authorities. Holmes merely talked with usual aplomb while Dr. Watson zoned out muttering: Time travel…wizard…time travel wizard…
A snap—and Baker Street’s firelight returned.
Watson exhaled. “A dream.”
Holmes unclenched his hand. The blue feather glowed faintly.
“Or a case,” he murmured, “for another time.”
THE END.
(Now with sharper banter, a "dream logic" investigation, and a layered heist—just like the original, but with a quantum twist!)
Updated by human. Second revision.
Very much inspired by The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Researchers find a predictable pattern for the timing between Earth's glacial and interglacial periods
Beginning around 2.5 million years ago, Earth entered an era marked by successive ice ages and interglacial periods, emerging from the last glaciation around 11,700 years ago. A new analysis suggests the onset of the next ice age could be expected in 10,000 years’ time.
An international team, including researchers form UC Santa Barbara, made their prediction based on a new interpretation of the small changes in Earth’s orbit of the sun, which lead to massive shifts in the planet’s climate over periods of thousands of years. The study tracks the natural cycles of the planet’s climate over a period of a million years. Their findings, published in Science, offer new insights into Earth’s dynamic climate system and represent a step-change in understanding the planet’s glacial cycles.
The team examined a million-year record of climate change, which documents changes in the size of land-based ice sheets across the Northern hemisphere together with the temperature of the deep ocean. They were able to match these changes with small cyclical variations in the shape of Earth's orbit of the sun, its wobble and the angle on which its axis is tilted.
“We found a predictable pattern over the past million years for the timing of when Earth's climate changes between glacial ‘ice ages’ and mild warm periods like today, called interglacials,” said co-author Lorraine Lisiecki, a professor in UCSB’s Earth Science Department. One type of change in Earth's orbit was responsible for the end of ice ages, while another was associated with their return.
“We were amazed to find such a clear imprint of the different orbital parameters on the climate record,” added lead author Stephen Barker, a professor at Cardiff University, in the UK. “It is quite hard to believe that the pattern has not been seen before.”
Predictions of a link between Earth’s orbit of the sun and fluctuations between glacial and interglacial conditions have been around for over a century but were not confirmed by real-word data until the mid-1970s. Since then, scientists have struggled to identify precisely which orbital parameter is most important for the beginning and ending of glacial cycles because of the difficulty of dating climatic changes so far back in time.
The team was able to overcome this problem by looking at the shape of the climate record through time. This allowed them to identify how the different parameters fit together to produce the climate changes observed.
The authors found that each glaciation of the past 900,000 years follows a predictable pattern. This natural pattern — in the absence of human greenhouse gas emissions — suggests that we should currently be in the middle of a stable interglacial and that the next ice age would begin many millennia in the future, approximately 10,000 years from now.
“The pattern we found is so reproducible that we were able to make an accurate prediction of when each interglacial period of the past million years or so would occur and how long each would last,” Barker said. “This is important because it confirms the natural climate change cycles we observe on Earth over tens of thousands of years are largely predictable and not random or chaotic.” These findings represent a major contribution towards a unified theory of glacial cycles.
“And because we are now living in an interglacial period – called the Holocene – we are also able to provide an initial prediction of when our climate might return to a glacial state,” said co- author Chronis Tzedakis, a professor at University College London.
“But such a transition to a glacial state in 10,000 years’ time is very unlikely to happen because human emissions of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere have already diverted the climate from its natural course, with longer-term impacts into the future,” added co-author Gregor Knorr from the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research.
The team plans to build on their findings to create a baseline of the Earth’s natural climate for the next 10,000-20,000 years by calibrating past changes. Used in combination with climate model simulations, researchers hope to quantify the absolute effects of human-made climate change into the far future.
“Now we know that climate is largely predictable over these long timescales, we can actually use past changes to inform us about what could happen in the future,” Barker added. “This is something we couldn’t do before with the level of confidence that our new analysis provides.”
“This is vital for better informing decisions we make now about greenhouse gas emissions, which will determine future climate changes.”
