A bunch of Jewish badasses!

We Were Never Lost is a documentary (in-progress) that explores and honors small Jewish populations in Africa. They’re currently filming but everything was put on hold when the filmmakers (Rudy Rochman, Andrew Noam Leibman, Edouard David Benaym) were detained in Iqbo, Nigeria because the government claimed that their visit was politically motivated…which it obviously was not. They were held in terrible conditions but were finally released 2 weeks ago. The whole ordeal only highlighted the fact that these minority communities in Africa experience extreme persecution.

Honorable Mention:
Rudy Rochman AKA one of the most beautiful Jewish men in existence for so many different reasons. (Okay but his love for Judaism and the Tribe and he was a Lone Soldier (Paratrooper!) and he went to Columbia University and is a proud Zionist and HAVE YOU SEEN HIS FACE?)
Please support the project if you can! Even if it’s just sharing posts on social media. The work they’re doing is so important, especially as the rest of the world continues to emphasize this belief that Jews are “White”. Ashkenazim are merely one subset of the Jewish people. It is so important that we highlight and celebrate not only Sephardim and Mizrahim but Ethiopian Jews and any lesser know Jewish populations, no matter where in the world.

Tfilat HaGomel for overcoming dangerous journeys
We Were Never Lost will tell the stories of the disconnected Jews who will reunite with mainstream Am Israel in our lifetime.
Tens of thousands of people prayed and sent us positive energy while our team was in Nigerian captivity. Know that your prayers made a real difference as we felt your energies with us during the toughest of times.
We are lucky to have such amazing people around us who fought hard to liberate us and we are also incredibly lucky to be a part of a people who are so connected and kept us in their thoughts and tfilot.
May the Ahavat Chinam we received only be multiplied infinitely. אמן

TROUBLE AS DSS Arrests Israeli Filmmakers For Allegedly Supporting IPOB Members: The Department of the State Security Service, DSS, has arrested three Israeli filmmakers for allegedly supporting the Indigenous People Of Biafra, IPOB, in Nigeria, Journal Reporters has learnt. According to Times Of Israel, Nigerian authorities arrested and interrogated the trio on suspicion that they had come into contact with ‘Biafran separatists.’ According to the Foreign Ministry, the Israeli Embassy in Abuja is following the case closely and is in contact with Nigerian authorities. One of the Israelis arrested is Rudy Rochman, a Zionist activist with almost 95,000 followers on Instagram. Making the flight with him were filmmaker Noam Leibman and French-Israeli journalist E. David Benaym. The Israelis were in Nigeria to film “We Were Never Lost,” a documentary exploring Jewish communities in African countries such as Kenya, Madagascar, Uganda, and Nigeria. They took off from Ben Gurion Airport on July 5 and landed in Nigeria the next day. According to residents, the crew was detained at a synagogue during Friday night services in the Igbo village of Ogidi by Nigeria’s secret police, the Department of State Services (DSS) and taken to Abuja. Ogidi is the headquarters of Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra State. The filmmakers were aware of the political sensitivity surrounding the filming of the Igbo community. Last Thursday, the "We Were Never Lost" Facebook page stressed: “We do not take any position on political movements as we are not here as politicians nor as a part of any governmental delegations.” Last week, the group met with Igbo leader, Eze Chukwuemeka Eri, and presented him with a framed Shiviti made in Jerusalem. Rochman also presented another Igbo community with a Torah scroll whose cover was designed by British-Israeli street artist Solomon Souza. The Igbo consider themselves a lost tribe of Israel. In January, a conflict broke out in southeastern Nigeria between Nigerian forces and the military wing of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) movement. The fight is ongoing. Images from the days and night before we were abducted by the Nigerian DSS where they caged our team for 3 weeks, ultimately silencing our episode on the Igbo Jews for We Were Never Lost.
We only managed to film for 2 days out of the 2 weeks planned in Igboland when armed militants wearing black ski masks forced us at gun point into a van, stripping us of our phones and passports. We didn't see the light of day or had any form of communication with the outside world till we were released 20 days later.
We set out to tell a story and unfortunately we became the story. Now that we are back it's important to reset and focus on the Igbo Jews who've faced what we went through their whole lives and still live with that reality daily.
Our team will pivot and an episode on the Igbos will be made. We are currently no longer allowed to enter Nigeria, but the story of our Igbo brothers and sisters there will be told.
Many Igbos have reached out and apologized to our team for what we went through. To our Jewish Igbo family, it is not your fault! It is us who are sorry that our people did not reunite earlier.
