“I am the one who knocks!”
Breaking Bad - Season 4, Episode 6
Skyler White : Walt, please, let's both of us stop trying to justify this whole thing and admit you're in danger!
Walter White : Who are you talking to right now? Who is it you think you see? Do you know how much I make a year? I mean, even if I told you, you wouldn't believe it. Do you know what would happen if I suddenly decided to stop going into work? A business big enough that it could be listed on the NASDAQ goes belly up. Disappears! It ceases to exist without me. No, you clearly don't know who you're talking to, so let me clue you in. I am not in danger, Skyler. I am the danger. A guy opens his door and gets shot, and you think that of me? No. I am the one who knocks!
The Iconic Moment in Breaking Bad: Walter White's Declaration of Power
In my opinion, one of the most iconic scenes in "Breaking Bad" occurs during the intense confrontation between Walter White and Skyler White, where we witness a pivotal turning point in Walt's character arc. With Skyler pleading for him to recognize the danger he's in, Walter delivers one of the most chilling monologues in television history: “I am not in danger, Skyler. I am the danger. A guy opens his door and gets shot, and you think that of me? No. I am the one who knocks!”
This scene perfectly encapsulates the transformation of Walter White from a meek high school chemistry teacher to the formidable drug lord, Heisenberg. It’s not just about the words he uses; it’s the way Bryan Cranston delivers them with such intensity and conviction that sends shivers down my spine. In this moment, Walter is no longer the man who feels trapped by his circumstances; he has fully embraced his power and identity as a ruthless figure in the drug trade.
What makes this scene so compelling is the raw emotion behind it. Walt's insistence that he is not the victim but instead the source of danger reveals the profound depths of his character and the moral decay he has undergone. It's a powerful reminder of how ambition and desperation can corrupt even the most ordinary individuals. Instead of being a victim of his situation, Walt chooses to redefine himself as the ultimate predator, asserting dominance in a world where he once felt powerless.
This moment stands out as the best scene in the entire show for me because it highlights the core theme of transformation and the consequences of unchecked power. It forces viewers to confront the unsettling reality that the most dangerous individuals are often those who have realized their own potential for darkness. Walt's chilling declaration, “I am the one who knocks!” solidifies his place as an antihero whose journey is both fascinating and tragic. In essence, this scene encapsulates the essence of "Breaking Bad": a brilliant exploration of morality, identity, and the lengths one will go to reclaim control over their life.

co worker au and wearing satoru’s jacket after your shirt got ruined during a mission . . .
at first, the students think it’s just classic gojo flirting shamelessly with a coworker who clearly finds him more exhausting than endearing. his teasing is constant, loud, ridiculous. and your eye rolls and deadpanned expression are iconic (primarily to nobara). it is a part of your dynamic that the students recognize like clockwork.
but something feels off about the situation all together. they can sense it.
the way you dodge his banter a little too smoothly — like you’ve had practice even off the clock. the way you don’t even flinch when he gets too close. the way he definitely watches you out of the corner of his eye from behind his blindfold like a hawk even when he’s supposedly focused on them — until you nearly trip over a loose floor tile or fumble a stack of papers. then he’s moving before he even thinks to.
it’s subtle — almost — but not lost on anyone.
still, the real giveaway is the day your shirt gets ruined in the middle of a mission, and like a storm — you show up on campus twenty minutes later wearing their sensei’s uniform jacket like it’s yours. like it’s the most natural thing in the world.
it drowns you a little. the sleeves are too long, shoulders too wide and oversized, but you wear it anyway like a girl parading about in her boyfriend’s hoodie — unbothered. a little too intimate.
and while there is nothing obviously his about it — no name tag or a “look what i scored” grin from their teacher — the signs are there. it hums with the faint, stubborn signature of his cursed energy along with that expensive cologne they know he wears.
now, satoru’s generous — sure. he’d buy a stranger a new top without blinking and make a whole show out of it. but giving you his jacket? letting you wear it like it’s yours?
that’s not generosity. that is his way of intentionally and quietly marking his territory.
and everyone — including his students — know it.

Fun fact (relating to the "first same sex kiss" Deadline discourse):
If you include kisses that aren't lip-to-lip, Eleven and Rory arguably kiss each other 3 times:

4 times if you throw in the IDW comics too:

(For context, Amy and Eleven body swapped earlier in the story and have switched back at this point, but Rory doesn't know if it was successful.)

"“I almost lost you,” Alec said. “I’ve gotten so used to thinking of you as immortal. But none of us are.” He tried to keep his hands from shaking; he was more nervous than he thought he would be. “None of us are forever. But at least I can do everything I can to let you know how much I love you with every day that we do have.” He took a deep breath. “I wish I could promise you a completely uneventful, peaceful life at my side. But I have a feeling we’ll always be surrounded by adventure and chaos.” “I wouldn’t have it any other way,” said Magnus. “When I found you, I didn’t know what I was finding,” Alec said. “Words about things that are beautiful and precious to me don’t come easily. You know that. You know me better than anyone.” He licked his dry lips. “And when one day people look back on me and what my life meant, I don’t want them to say, ‘Alec Lightwood fought in the Dark War’ or even ‘Alec Lightwood was Consul once.’ I want them to think, ‘Alec Lightwood loved one man so much he changed the world for him.’”"

I need to marinate more thoughts for this but. okay so gravity falls au. partially inspired by this. fiddleford has the memory gun and he's This Close to using it on himself to erase what he saw in the portal. he pauses. he thinks, just because I forget doesn't mean stanford will stop building the portal. he thinks it's all or nothing. he goes to stanford's shack in the woods. he sneaks in through the side door and sees stanford sleeping on the couch. it's dark outside. the lights are out. fiddleford can barely make out the shape of his former-friend's body. fiddleford looks at Stanford one last time. he types into the memory gun, Stanford Pines. he points the gun. half a second before he fires, Stanford stirs, as if sensing the danger he is in. he manages to get out "who-" before fiddleford, panicking, pulls the trigger before he can chicken out completely.
stanley wakes up on a couch he doesn't remember falling asleep in, with a terrified looking man standing over him, holding a glowing gun, and thinks this is one hell of a situation i've gotten myself into
#mads posts#gravity falls#gravity falls au#fiddleford mcgucket#fiddleford h mcgucket#stanley pines#stan pines#grunkle stan#LISTENNNNNN#THE POSSIBILITIES THAT ARISE FROM EXISTENCE OF THE MEMORY GUN#UNLIMITED#what if ! stan didnt know he had to get ford back#what if fiddleford fucks up soooooo so bad#will he use the gun on himself to wipe his own memory and abandon everything?#will he try to fix what he's done to stanley?#will he try to fix the PORTAL?#who knows? not me. idfk#personally im leaning towards fiddleford FREAKS OUT and just books it#as soon as he realizes that this guy isnt stanford#and then the next day he sees this really confused dude in town and everyone is asking him if he's that scientist in the woods#and stan ofc is like 'the who what in the where? also where am i'#bc through the power of handwaving i am declaring the memory gun erased EVERTYTHING related to stanford#and bc the journey and the town are so closely tied to ford stan forgot everything#eventually someone offers stan the money for a tour and he says yes bc free money#and takes this dude (who tf is stanford)'s identity#clearly this stanford guy is gone and not coming back because there are literally no signs that anyone has been alive in the goddamn house#(this is because ford is bad at taking care of himself and stan has been busy dying of an infected burn)#and fiddleford is like. fuck. i fucked up.#uses the memory gun on himself to forget what he's done#and then bc he doesnt remember what he's done he then uses it on himself to forget the portal

hopefully i don't forget this in the morning but something something saionji in the StuCo arc being the caricature of an Evil Abusive Patriarchal Man that becomes the focus of people's hatred of the system/patriarchy, the type of villain you'd find in a simplistic surface-level feminist tale, and--crucially--the societal conception of "abuse" and "abuser" that serves to a) deflect conversation about the way societal systems enable abuse and warp it into only blaming individuals/thinking of "abusive" as a personality trait rather than of abuse as a choice and b) make it much, much harder to detect and recognize more insidious, smiling-faced forms of abuse, the kind of abuse that Touga and Akio enact, the kind that leaves psychological marks rather than physical ones
[specifically this is talking about his narrative role in the story as an antagonist and butt monkey, a Doylist approach if you will, rather than his standing within the world of Ohtori (the Watsonian approach)]

Wildbow appeared in my dreams to tell me that Ashley Swansong is straight but Ashley Damsel is queer, and that she's meant to be at the center of Ward's queer themes, but it didn't quite work out. Fortunately, he's working on about ten Worm sequels, set both before and during the events of Ward, which should help clarify this.

Okay so I'm now wondering: if Glug and the deserters (rather than being the ones to kill Adar ides of march style) will now become the lens through which we see Sauron overtake the uruks.
They've clearly gone out of their way to make Glug a sympathetic character with a backstory that we (at least those of us with brains and beating hearts) can care about.
Because Adar made that direct declaration of love, I think Glug's arc can now play more like "i care about my father but he is making terrible decisions so I'm walking away" and less "I'm gonna bloodthirsty mutiny/murder him."
It would honestly be peak tragedy if Glug witnessed how much more horrible the uruks will have it after Sauron takes over, and then have the moment of horrific realization that "Adar was right."
I think there's about a 50/50 chance Adar lives or dies.
If he lives, I think Nenya heals his corruption, so he will have to live on as an elf, knowing he can't go back to being an uruk and that his children are slaves. NOW THAT'S PAIN.
If he dies, I think it has to be by Sauron's hand. It just has to be. Those two need to FIGHT.
Anyway idk those are my thoughts for the day.
