Quack Shot is weird for me because I can stand Daffy being threatened by Elmer in other shorts but in here he feels so…pathetic? Ineffective? So easily and frequently outfoxed by Elmer Fudd?

IT’S FUNNY, Quack Shot is normally a cartoon i couldn’t give two (noun of your choice)s about until recently. i still don’t really see myself going out of my way to watch it because… why, but i did rewatch it on a whim a few months ago and got much more out of it than i ever did before

i think it helps that Daffy never really loses his gumption throughout—because to lose your gumption to such a milquetoast dweeb like Elmer Fudd is a fate worse than death! there are actually a lot of bits throughout i admire; i’m endeared by Daffy’s defensiveness when Elmer is about to kill a Literal Baby duck (which in itself is a pretty funny commentary that the only game he can hunt without issue is the most defenseless game possible, and even then Daffy intervenes, thus prompting an issue) and this clip below is another included in The Apex of Daffy for me. great conceited attitude that isn’t wholly insufferable but endearingly mischievous and almost humbling in a weird paradoxical way.

i’m actually surprised to learn that Phil De Lara wrote it, which i think is his only writing credit (don’t quote me on that!)—he was a longtime animator and worked frequently with McKimson in this period, as well as having a very heavy presence with the Dell comics also during this period. he drew this great comic which is currently my header on Bluesky because i love it very deeply (although he didn’t write it to my knowledge). so that could be a potential factor as to why the dynamic would seem so off

Crying and holding the ashes of a friend who has been with her for many years, Grace wants it all to be a nightmare from which she can wake up. Her family, members of Apex, stand by and try to comfort her, but she thinks only about Simon. She asks them to find something in which she can collect his remains. They leave while Grace holds the ashes in one place, and return with a glass jar. Together with Grace and a jar of ashes, they return to the Mall Car.

Apex is disbanded and reassembled, her family is no longer trying to increase their numbers, but Grace does not stop thinking about Simon. She recalls their adventures, which used to be fun before Grace found out the truth about the purpose of the Train. Both of them were happy and so was their family.

One day she meets Hazel and Amelia again, and she is glad that they are both okay, but she is afraid to approach them. Hazel approaches her herself, surprised by the low number and Simon's absence. And through tears, Grace begins to talk about what happened during Hazel's absence. Hazel soon hugs her, and Amelia listens quietly. When Grace finishes her story, Amelia begins to talk about Alrick, how they spent their time and how Amelia couldn't come to terms with the loss. She offers Grace to find a reason to leave the Train.

Grace's number is getting smaller and smaller, her family is slowly leaving the Train, and in the end Grace tries not to part with Simon's ashes - she wants to take him with her. And so she does. She thinks about finding Jesse and apologizing, even if it takes years to find him. But she is lucky, she gets off the Train in Jesse's town, and very soon she meets him and Lake, and is very surprised to see the latter. Lake almost attacks her, but Jessie stops her and wonders why Grace is off the Train, given Apex's policy. Grace talks about what happened to her and at the end of her story Lake even sympathizes with her. Jesse offers to live with them for a while to get used to the normal world.

Grace tries to do all the chores so as not to disappoint Jessie's parents, while they try to convince her that everything is fine. But she still continues to do everything not to be a burden. At some point, Jesse and Lake introduce her to their friends, Hunter and Vee. Grace is very surprised to see another Denizen outside the Train, and even more surprised to find out that it is not a Denizen. She is not too surprised that there is a whole world full of magic, because over the years she has seen hundreds of different worlds on the Train.

She is more interested in finding the magic that can resurrect the dead. Hunter reacted strangely when she said that, but she didn't care. She will get Simon back, no matter what it takes. She looks through all the books in the Bonesborough Library, but finds nothing suitable until she comes across books about grimwalkers. There's no recipe in the books, but Grace is glad she at least found something. After looking through all of Eda's books on wild magic, as well as looking through books in libraries in other cities, she also does not find a recipe.

And then she accidentally found a book with a recipe for grimwalkers in Hunter's room. She took a photo of every page she needed because she couldn't take the book with her. Hunter would have noticed that book was missing. Knowing the ingredients, Grace began planning how to get them. She has been killing Denizens for years, and she has to remember the old days. And although at first glance it is impossible to get the lungs of a stonesleeper and palistrom wood, she learns that a flock of stonesleepers has recently been seen in the forests, and Dell Clawthorne grows a small forest of palistrom.

Grace believes that this is luck and a sign from above. Very soon she collects everything she needs. She doesn't have Simon's bone, but she has his ashes and she uses that instead of the bone. She patiently waits for Grimwalker to grow and visits him every day. Grace is absolutely happy when she sees a hand coming out of the ground. Simon is back.

(I was finally able to write this. It's based on your idea of Grimwalker Simon. I did not specify what age the grimwalker turned out to be, since I did not know which option you would like more, a child or a teenager)

OH OH OH OH I love this! Grace raising a small red-eyed Simon as her own son. Also, her putting her chara development aside to kill wild animals to bring her boy back. Wow, just wow mate. Great work here.

Something I'm not the biggest fan of in Owl House fanfic is people treating the Owl Beast as some sort of protective, nurturing secondary mother figure. Now, I get why people do that - they want a fluffy (sometimes literally) wholesome family dynamic. But personally, I'm much more of a fan of treating the Owl Beast, and the curse, as something terrifying.

The Owl Beast is an apex predator, an enormous hunter. It swallows creatures whole, can chew through solid plastic, and apparently has teeth in its stomach. And predatory animals, especially of that size, aren't interested in caring for small, edible creatures. They're interested in eating, and self preservation. That's why the Owl Beast is hostile every time it takes over Eda's body. Frequently, it's in danger, or at least somewhere it doesn't recognise, and it gets scared. It was captured out of nowhere and shoved into a scroll and then was trapped for who knows how long. It must be utterly terrified. So it attacks to protect itself - we see that when Dell sets off that miniature firework. But also, that beast is hungry. It's huge. There's no way Eda is eating enough to keep it sated, especially when the transformation is definitely going to be tiring to go through. Growing to that size is physically exhausting, and needs a lot of energy. Hell, the way Eda gets through to the Owl Beast is a) not threatening it, and b) offering to feed it voles and other rodents. People, especially Eda, should be terrified of the Owl Beast, not treating it like a fluffy mum.

We need more scary Owl Beast stories, because they make Eda coming to terms with it so much more meaningful than if it's a fluffy mother figure. And it can add a lot more stakes.

Nel 2029 l’asteroide Apophis sfiorerà la Terra, avvicinandosi più dei satelliti artificiali e perfino facendo sentire la sua gravità. L’asteroide Apophis, che prende il nome dal dio egizio Apopi, signore  del caos e della distruzione, è un asteroide vicino alla Terra che ha suscitato grande attenzione a causa del suo avvicinamento al nostro pianeta. Anche se non colpirà la Terra, Apophis sarà abbastanza luminoso nei cieli da essere visibile a occhio nudo. Una festa per gli astronomi e gli appassionati! Come ho già detto, i gruppi di osservazione della National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) stanno attualmente preparando i loro piani per osservazioni ravvicinate e personali. La missione OSIRIS-APEX è programmata per visitare l’asteroide. Essa prosegue la missione OSIRIS-REx, che ha raccolto e restituito con successo campioni dall’asteroide Bennu. OSIRIS-APEX è una missione per studiare i cambiamenti fisici dell’asteroide Apophis che deriveranno dal suo raro incontro ravvicinato con la Terra nell’aprile 2029. In quell’anno, l’orbita di Apophis lo porterà a meno di 20.000 miglia (32.000 chilometri) dalla superficie terrestre, più vicino alla Terra dei nostri satelliti più alti.
