Mendocino is a Northern California coastal village on Mendocino Bay. It is divided into two sections by the Big River, just 150 miles north of San Francisco. It is known for its delicious wines, prime whale watching, and thriving artistic interests like the Mendocino Art Center. This headlands community is also home to Mendocino Headlands State Park, where cliffside trails pepper the area offering stunning coastline views. Further up the coast is Russian Gulch State Park featuring pygmy forests, waterfalls, the Devil’s Punchbowl, and the Point Cabrillo Light Station.

Devil's Punchbowl - Central Oregon Coast (March 2019)
"During winter storms, water from the restless ocean slams with a thundering roar into a hollow rock formation shaped like a huge punch bowl. The surf churns, foams, and swirls as it mixes a violent brew."

Miles Canyon, YT (No. 8)
Today, the highlights at Miles Canyon include a suspension bridge, the Yukon River, a comprehensive trail system, a historic gold mining town and basalt cliffs colored in a strange orange lichen. There are opportunities to view riverboat cruises , Yukon rapids, and wildlife. Wildlife sightings may include bears, otters, beavers, cliff swallows and Bald Eagles.
The bridge crossing Miles Canyon was named after Robert E. Lowe. It is located near the spot where the Yukon River meets Schwatka Lake. Once a spot of treacherous rapids and lost lives during the Klondike Gold Rush.
There are few sightseeing destinations to consider when visiting the suspension bridge. For example a short walk will lead visitors to some rapids called The Devil's Punchbowl (across the bridge and down the trail to your left). Here there are same rapids which once caused havoc to rafters during the Klondike Gold Rush.
