Plays interesting with gender and access
Josie Rourke’s As You Like It plays interestingly with gender and access at the brand spanking new @sohoplace
“I’ll have no husband, if you be not he”
Though I’m not sure I’ll ever forgive new theatre @sohoplace for sitting on the grave of the much-loved Astoria, it really is a lovely intimate space, the Donmar on steroids with something of the aesthetic of the Bridge in there too. As You Like It…

The Addams Family Musical UK Tour
As you guys know, I was on vactation this week to see the Addams Family in Manchester. And let me tell you guys: it was so worth travelling there from Germany!
At the theater we found out that our tickets were actually front row tickets even though I had assumed that it was the 3rd row because it was row C. So that was a pleasant surprise. We had the most amazing seats and could also see the musicians which was a super cool experience but the view *-*
Just look at this picture I took from my seat without any zoom! But now to the actual show: we originally came because of Carrie Hope Fletcher (Wednesday) who is one of our favourite youtubers but everyone blew us away. The music and the vocals were insanely good and the choreography was awesome! Now for each actor:
Samantha Womack (Morticia): She was stunning on stage and was the perfect lady of darkness. Her vocals and acting were on point and damn this woman can tango.
Les Dennis was out due to bronchitis so Scott Paige filled in for Uncle Fester. It was his debut as Fester and he slayed it. I don’t even have words to describe how good he was! I loved him since I saw him in Chitty last year and it was wonderfull to see him play a leading role.
Carrie Hope Fletcher (Wednesday): Man this woman can sing! She probably had the best vocals in the entire cast. Sometimes she overacted a little bit but it wasn’t an issue.
Cameron Blakely (Gomez): Gomez was probably my favourite during the show. Cameron did an amazing job giving the character justice and keeping the accent at all times. Also he looked me in the eyes quite a lot so that was pretty ccol.
Valda Aviks (Grandma): Even though it was a smaller part she did a great job. All the jokes surrounding the character made me laugh till my eyes started watering!
Grant McIntyre (Pugsley): SO FUNNY! I don’t want to give away the plot but he did a great job portraying Pugsley who is still a child/ teen.
Dale Rapley (Mal Beineke): What can I say except he was fantastic? Since Mal Beineke is a character only written for the musical I didn’t have a TV show or a Movie counterpart to compare him to, so I will just say he was amazing.
Oliver Ormson (Lucas Beineke): I knew Oliver from Carrie’s vlogs so it was cool to see him do his thing on stage. He did a great job even though I didn’t really buy his american accent but that’s no big deal.
Charlotte Page (Alice Beineke): Damn did she make us laugh! Every time her character was on stage the audience was laughing.
Dickon Gough (Lurch): Well he sure can portray a zombie. Lurch’s part consisted mostly of grunting and walking very slowley.
Ensamble: I’m not going to review every single ensamble member but they all were fantastic. But since Scott was on as Fester they were missing one ancestor. It wasn’t really noticable but since I knew which ancestor Scott usually plays I noticed.
That’s it for my review. I give it a 10/10 and I’m really hoping for a UK cast recording. If you’re from the UK and want to see the show you can get tickets here.
