My uncle's friend asked if I wanted this machine that he has no use for, and yes I very much did want it, so now I have a beautiful crusty old friend to clean up!
I've never sewn on a White before, but from what I've read online they're very good. Quite a bit different from the Singers I'm used to though. The hand wheel moves in the opposite direction.
It was manufactured in the U.S. (more specifically - Cleveland, Ohio) sometime around the mid 1880s. I'm told it hasn't been used since about the 1970s, but that it used to belong to a woman who made her living by sewing on it for many years.
There's a lot of gunk and old dust to remove, and I need to shorten the drive belt and probably replace the rubber ring on the bobbin winder, but the moving parts are already spinning very smoothly and quietly so I'm hoping it won't be too much trouble.

No one ever taught her how to drive. Growing up in Atlanta, she lived with her father, a successful entertainment lawyer, who insisted she be chauffeured wherever she needed to go. At 15, when her friends were taking driving lessons, her mother arrived to take Darisha back with her to join her sister in the nomad clan they'd called home since leaving Atlanta.
Less than impressed with the forced family reunion, Darisha threatened to run away at the earliest opportunity. So while her sister Val learned to drive, she was relegated to other duties within the camp that she hated. On the twins' sixteenth birthday, Val was given a Galena, while Darisha was given a sewing machine. Later, under the cover of night, Darisha piled her scant belongings, including the sewing machine, into the car and took off in the general direction of Atlanta.
Everything she knew about driving came from watching tv and movies, but she managed to figure out how to keep the car moving. Ignorant of the rules of the road, she paid no mind to the angry honking and threats she received from the vehicles she side-swiped or forced off the road. She eventually managed to get her license through illegitimate means (no one in their right mind would let her pass the exams).
Later, in Night City, after the fourth or fifth car that ends up in Red Peaks nearly demolished, River forces her to take driver training. With seemingly unending patience, he teaches her everything he knows, and with a lot of repetition and encouragement, she improves enough that she's not a danger to the rest of Red Peak's denizens.

Here's a picture (that I forgot I had) of the underside of my sewing machine
This machine was meant to go into a sewing desk, although it does have some little feet to hold it off of a tabletop if it's not put into any kind of base, like the plastic base I have (the machine was in it when I thrifted it, attached with hinges like it would be in a sewing desk)
A lot of machines like this, which were made to go into a desk or other kind of frame, are open on the bottom like this, which makes them incredibly easy to clean and oil down there
But, that plate behind the bobbin area, held on with the screws? If your machine has something like that, leave it alone. That's where the spinning driveshaft motion, that comes from the side, gets turned 90° in different directions, to drive the back-and-forth movement of both the oscillating hook around the bobbin (which loops the thread to form the stitch) and to drive the small circular movement of the feed dogs (the things that move the fabric and control stitch length.) I have seen posts from Old Sewing Machine Repair People who wish they had never opened those parts up, because they are the most ridiculously complex sets of gears in the machines, and they are so well sealed and packed in grease that it turned out they didn't need to do anything in there, anyway. They were just really curious.
(Not saying that area should never be opened, just...it should never be opened without preparation)

💝💕💘 [ FALL(ING)DOWN FOR YOU ] 💖💌💞
Happy White Day! To celebrate, here's a Valentine's/White Day-themed collaborative MAMIYA fanzine!!
Featuring lovey-dovey art & fic from 12 creators!
Read it digitally or print it out yourself!
⚠️ DDD spoilers
Get it here! ➡️ Google Drive (pdf)
Directions for printing/binding + contributor credits below!
PRINTING
This zine was designed for letter paper, but I think it should print fine on A4 (I haven't tested it, sorry). If it helps, each individual page is 5.5 in x 8.5 in (140 mm x 216 mm).
We're going to print using the Booklet setting, which requires Adobe Acrobat or Foxit to use. Both programs can be downloaded for free. (I'm using Acrobat for this tutorial, but Foxit works the same way)
To print:
Download the zine file to your computer and open it in Acrobat/Foxit.
Open up the print menu using ctrl+P or by finding the printer icon near the top of the window. The print menu looks like this:
Tumblr media
3. Select your printer from the "Printer" menu, then select the "Booklet" option under Page Sizing and Handling, as shown in the image above. You can also check the box near the top of the window to "Print in grayscale (black and white)" like I'm doing, or leave it unchecked to print in color.
4. Select the "Print" button to print.
BINDING
Honestly, you can bind however you want! I chose something fancy this time (because I'm trying to show off for photos), but normally I go for something simpler. Here are some methods I've used to bind zines/booklets before:
Three-hole ribbon binding (this is the method I used here)
Stapling
Pamphlet binding/saddle stitching
Methods I haven't tried but would probably work fine:
Another three-hole ribbon binding method + ring binding
Perfect binding
Machine sewing
Regardless of which method you use, I always recommend pre-folding all the pages before doing any binding. I usually try to fold like 1-3 sheets at a time--enough pages that it doesn't take forever to fold all of them, but not too many pages because I want to ensure each sheet gets creased really well.
Watch out for page order, by the way, because these pages aren't numbered!!
Depending on how you've bound it, it should come out looking something like this. Isn't it so cute??
Tumblr media
Feel free to contact me if you need help!

I feel like Elizabeth is scary to Kiabosh or at least intimidating. The other McFadden’s while defiant, do eventually concede to him. Either by strength or at least knowledge (Man’s so old he doesn’t remember what it’s like to be human, maybe he doesn’t have a human form at all anymore, but he’s been around the block a couple millennia). But Elizabeth, much like the machine, is touched by something out of his control. Torn apart by it. But she fought it. And won. Pulled herself together, sewing the broken fragments of her soul. And he can respect that. Except when that same dogged determination is directed at him. Or seeing it mirrored in her son. With her in the picture, Kiabosh’s afterlife just got a whole lot harder.
I’d say a little of both because despite the trio figuring out most things, there’s still plenty of other stuff they don’t fully grasp. And I think you’d be right about that whole Kibosh part. Kibosh would’ve completely forgotten about what he may have looked like in life. Regardless, he’d show not a single ounce of interest in learning about it. He simply does not care.
Aside from that, the feelings I gravitate towards Elizabeth and Kibosh is one of him being slightly intimidated by her. It’s a small percentage, but one that needs to be accounted for. Opposed to the uncles, Elizabeth offers a voice of sincerity and grace to the ancient spirit. So he has that! Someone to take him seriously.
Another thing, while the trio and Casper had lost a bit of themselves in time, Elizabeth was able to remind herself of who she is. What she is. And that is not an easy task to accomplish as a spirit. She can only admit to Stretch that, at times, she was so close to losing herself almost completely. Forever to remain in the foggy prison she was stuck in. But her drive to keep going and find her family again? It was far stronger than any pressure she was under.
She just knew they were still around. It was an unshakable feeling she had in her soul. And like most things, she was absolutely right. And to see them all again filled her with happiness and soon sadness.
Once again I am rambling, hehe. Sorry, but this is all so much fun to write about!

3, 14, 17, 24, 27, aaaand 34
I IMEMDIATELY FORGOT I REBLOGGED THIS i feel like it's been so long since i've seen this kind of ask meme. i'm happy to see them again they are fun
3. "3 films you could watch for the rest of your life and not get bored of?" -The Phantom of The Paradise -Dune 1984 - Jan Svankmajer's Alice
I agonized over this but this three make me scream the whole time every time i'm obsessed with these films please watch these films i can reccomend more films after you watch these ones thank god i decided not to pursue art direction for films but i used to be so into films. i should get back into films more
14."what’s something you’ve always wanted to do but maybe been to scared to do?" I think very many things. I lived my life in fear for a long time. I've been able to drive for quite a while now so I really need and want to get over traveling fears...I've never been on a plane because it's so expensive but also because it seems scary D: in general i am trying to enter an era where i have less regard for my own safety lol. i want to ride a rollercoaster without fainting. i want to have fune
17."name 3 things that make you happy" -human and animal companionship everybody so beautiful world so wonderful -reading about historical religious schisms and in-fighting -singing or yelling songs loudly while being drowned out by my sewing machine or at shitty karaoke or in the car with my mom. my mom and i's top car yelling choices are black sabbath, system of a down, and rage against the machine
24."what’s one thing you’re proud of yourself for?" this is a well-timed question to reflect on thank you. i feel like after i graduated i lost all momentum immediately and like everything had been such a waste of time and i hadn't accomplished what i wanted. but i worked really hard and grew a lot and in terms of like academic achievement my underclassmen voted for me to get a mentorship award which really really touched my heart. in the past four years i've gone from barely being able to leave my home or talk to anyone to achieving that, learning to drive, making friends, having lots of different jobs...it's hard for me to remember those things and feel a consistent sense of pride and growth, but i'm working on it.
27."any nicknames?" idk how to spell out the most common one. Saus-Cha. Sas Cha. two words. Also sauce, sauce-uh, saazh, and Sote (complex backstory inside joke matching nickname with my bff). my mom will call my like victorian men's names like frederick or chester. my older brother often calls me sasuke which i feel like coming from an older brother specifically could legally be considered a threat
34."any pet peeves?" i definitely have very many because i am a hater but i'm blanking on any of them now. i really hate when men effect that specific Stupid Vapid Woman Voice

This post has gotten big fast. Thank you to everyone who's been supportive so far!
I want to talk a little bit about why I said piracy isn't the solution to the problem I've put forth here.
Basically, like libraries, this post isn't just about the books. Yes, the information in the books that have been, are being, and will be targeted by the Trump administration and his cronies in state and local governments is vital and needs to be available to everyone. However, what I proposed in the original post (borrowing the books, not pirating them) was for two purposes: protecting access to the books for everyone, and defending the institution of the library in the USA.
In his book On Tyranny, historian Timothy Snyder lists 20 ways to resist authoritarian regimes in everyday life. His second directive (after "#1: Do not obey in advance") is "Defend institutions":
It is institutions that help us to preserve decency. They need our help as well. Do not speak of "our institutions" unless you make them yours by acting on their behalf. They fall one after the other unless each is defended from the beginning. So choose an institution you care about - a court, a newspaper, a law, a labor union - and take its side.
Many of America's institutions are broken. Either they were from the beginning (police, the military industrial complex) or they have become so through intentional neglect or sabotage, almost entirely by the political right (social safety nets, public education, healthcare, infrastructure).
That said, if you're in America and you're reading this, you almost certainly depend on dozens of institutions just to get through the day. Do you drive on roads or use public transportation? Do you eat commercially-produced and inspected food? Do you attend or send your children to public school or publicly-funded universities? I could ask a hundred more of these insipid hypothetical questions, but you get the idea. If you live in the US, especially if you're looking at this post on the internet, you are not outside the purview of US institutions.
Lots of people will need to "take the side" of lots of institutions to keep them from getting worse - or much worse - in Trump's second term. However, I work in libraries because they are the rare US institution that I can get behind with my full support.
The public library building is the last free place. Anyone, regardless of income, citizenship, or social status, can walk into a public library and spend hours in heat or air conditioning without being expected to pay a dime. They can read books, magazines, and newspapers, in many cases in multiple languages. In my experience, many US public libraries will let you use internet on their computers and/or with WiFi without needing to have a card. Some libraries, including the system where I work, leave the free, open Wi-Fi on all night so that people who need it can use it in the parking lot after hours. Many libraries don't require a card to attend in-person educational or entertainment programs for adults, teens, or kids.
If you have proof of your identity and your residency in a library's service area, you can take books home! For free! You can probably also take DVDs and Blu-Rays home! For free! You might also be able to take home digital media, music CDs, video games, laptop computers, tablets, wireless hotspots, sewing machines, telescopes, sports equipment, neckties, or other items! For free! They have been paid for by public funds, which might include your taxes (if you have an income that requires you to pay a tax bill to the government) or not (if you don't). Either way, those items are yours to borrow and use as long as you promise to bring them back for other people to enjoy.
And as long as local, state, and federal governments don't decide they don't want you to have those things anymore.
The US public library system isn't perfect. In the past, American public libraries have actively participated in segregation, and I wish the field acknowledged this lasting harm more. I wish more systems could go fine-free. I wish the field paid better (no one should have to have a Master's degree to make a living wage). I think there are too many restrictions on who can get a library card in a particular system. Some library systems' policies are actively hostile to people experiencing homelessness, addiction, or poverty. That said, these things are improving and they are solvable - unless we can't prove that people are using our services enough to justify our expenses to political entities.
It is so, so easy to take public libraries' side in the US. Literally just use us.
It's not just about the books.
I'm already seeing advice from people in the US to purchase queer books and other banned or "controversial" books on paper as a way to combat the wave of government censorship that is coming. While this is a good idea (it is! absolutely!), it's not accessible to everyone, and truly, we're not going to be able to consumerism our way out of this one.
If you can buy the books, do. Whether you can buy the books or not, borrow them from your library.
Borrow the paper versions. Borrow the ebook or audiobook versions. Request the titles you want that your library doesn't have. The more a title circulates or is requested, the better librarians are going to be able to defend keeping it if and when it's ever challenged.
Use libraries like @queerliblib too. The more members they have, the better they'll be able to fundraise.
Your community resources depend on you using them. Borrow the books before they go away.
InB4: Piracy is not the solution here. We're trying to keep community resources available, not make sure individual people can read individual books. Different problems.
The books are still available. Borrowing them from your library and returning them on time and in good condition will help keep them that way.

Gartex Texprocess India concluded with a resounding success
Tumblr media
Drawing 10,283 visitors from 230 Indian cities and five countries, Gartex Texprocess India 2025 reaffirmed its stature as a key business platform for the Indian textile industry. Featuring 125 exhibitors and covering the entire value chain, the expo served as a robust platform for textile technologies, innovations, and sourcing. Organised by Messe Frankfurt Trade Fairs India Pvt Ltd and MEX Exhibitions Pvt Ltd, the event also incorporated The Denim Show, Screen Print India – Textiles, and the Fabrics & Trims Show, offering industry stakeholders a unified source for knowledge exchange and business networking.
At the forefront was India’s rapidly transforming textile manufacturing landscape, with automation, sustainability, and innovation steering the conversation. Leading buyers and manufacturing brands engaged in direct sourcing and dialogue with top machinery suppliers and fabric producers.
The expo was inaugurated by Shri Sanjay Savkare, Hon’ble Minister of Textiles, Government of Maharashtra, who emphasized the state’s focus on strengthening local manufacturing of globally sourced components and machinery. Uttar Pradesh participated as the State Partner, represented by Shri Shashank Chaudhary (IAS), Additional CEO, Invest UP, who elaborated on the textile-centric initiatives by the UP government and presented a dedicated knowledge session for industry stakeholders.
From across borders, the Taiwan Sewing Machinery Association (TSMA) participated with a pavilion of eight companies. Mr Steven Fang, Chairman, TSMA, stated: “We saw a good visitor turnout from all over India. We see a big market here and would like to continue with our participation in the upcoming editions.”
Denim Industry’s Sustainable Shift
The Denim Show attracted major manufacturers and presented a variety of new denim collections, eco-conscious dyes, screen-printing solutions, and accessory lines. More than 30 denim mills showcased at the show, engaging buyers like Aditya Birla Digital Fashion Venture Ltd, Levi’s Strauss India Pvt Ltd, Walmart, The Souled Store, and more.
Mr Vasudev Tipre, GM Exports, Suryalakshmi Cotton Mills, shared: “Automation has improved efficiency. We supply leading global brands, with 50% exports to Asia and South America. The exhibition’s blend of fabric and machinery segments makes this a valuable platform.”
Mr Sourav Jalan, Director and Promoter, Syama Denims, noted: “This is a good opportunity to interact with new-age D2C brands who often don’t get a chance to meet mills directly. Gartex always brings customers and suppliers under one roof, and we’ve been happy to return year after year.”
Mr Aamir Akhtar, Group President and CEO, Jindal Worldwide Ltd, added: “We use water-saving technologies in our new premium line, ‘Formula 1,’ and recover used water through a zero-liquid discharge plant. The experience here is very well organised — a benchmark for the Indian trade.”
Mr Harish Agarwal, Owner, Bhagwati Chemicals, stated: “The show gave us strong leads beyond denims. With four decades of experience in supplying dyes and chemicals, this platform proved beneficial to us, especially with deep technical inquiries from buyers.”
Mr B Vinod Kumar, General Manager – Denim & Casual Bottoms, Arvind Fashions, remarked: “Massive machines were showcased, which we usually can’t see outside manufacturing setups. Bringing that to a common platform is a job well done.”
Mr Sreehari Krishnan, Director – Plant Operations & Quality, Bewakoof Brands Pvt Ltd, shared: “We came to explore denims and printing accessories. There are amazing new developments like HD stickers and embroidery, and lightweight dobby denim fabrics perfect for summers.”
Product Technology & Innovation in Focus
Expressing their satisfaction on the show, exhibitors also highlighted breakthrough machinery and processes driving efficiency, sustainability and cost savings in textile production. Mr Nitin Mathur, Regional Sales Manager, IIGM Private Limited: “The exhibition saw excellent footfall and strong interest in automation, even among small businesses, as labour costs rise.”
Mr Sai Navneethan, Regional Head – Sustainable Products, Ramsons Garment Finishing Equipment Pvt Ltd, “Automation is key for high-volume garment finishing. PLC-controlled systems also create more opportunities for women to lead in operations.”
Ms Ujjwala Upadhyay, Brand Manager, Insight Print Communications Pvt Ltd represented Mimaki’s dye sublimation machines. She said: “We are here to connect with potential clients across sportswear, home furnishings, and signage. With growing focus on sustainability, consumers are looking at the ethos of the organisations while buying. This year, we’ve seen strong footfall at Gartex.”
Mr S Eswaran, Product Head-Duerkopp Adler & PFAFF, Mehala Machines presented automation solutions from Duerkopp Adler, Germany, noting significant visitor engagement and interest in their offerings. He stated: “Gartex Texprocess India Mumbai edition was very well organised. The location of our stall is also good as we received a very good visitor turnout. We had also invited many of our potential clients and most of them visited were interested to find out automation solutions.”
Backed by strong industry support, especially from the Denim Manufacturers Association, Gartex Texprocess India continues to evolve as a robust sourcing and innovation hub. This year’s edition welcomed representatives from Aditya Birla Group, Brands and Sourcing Leaders Association, Coreco, Recyclr, Technopak Advisors, TMRW, House of Brands, Walmart Sourcing and WROGN Pvt Ltd, among many others.

Joy of Giving: How This NGO in Mumbai Turns Small Acts of Kindness into Big Waves of Change
Small acts of kindness create a ripple effect that inspires others to do the same, and eventually a big wave of change comes about. The Debabrata Auro Foundation (DAF) exemplifies this truth every day through its heartfelt initiatives, such as distributing books to children, providing meals to daily wage workers, empowering widows with livelihood tools, conducting free mega medical events, and awareness campaigns and so much more. Recognized as one of the Top 10 genuine NGO in Mumbai in 2025, DAF is committed to setting up a foundation for compassion and social responsibility for tomorrow.
Creating lasting change through simple acts
The joy of giving is like throwing a pebble into a pond; the ripples spread out in all directions, inspiring others to take part and make a difference in their and other’s life too. Spreading joy is like giving a gift that keeps on giving.
Tumblr media
The DAF is the philanthropic arm of The Esthetic Clincis India, where a share of the clinics’ profit is directed to meaningful causes. DAF’s work encompasses healthcare and social good, making it a unique NGO in Mumbai. Donors of the foundation get the benefit of the 80G tax exemption.
With its every small act of change, DAF has transformed hundreds of lives in the underserved communities of Mumbai and beyond. The aim is to make today better and tomorrow the best.
Bringing joy to young learners
DAF believes that access to basic and good education is the game changer for holistic development. In the years 2023 and 2024, DAF organized several book donation drives across Mumbai:
Book Distribution at Bhandup MVR MPS School
A distribution drive was conducted for young students. 61 nursery rhyme books were given to the students, spreading the joy of early learning. For many of these children this gift was the first experience of owning a brand-new book. This event started a trigger of endless possibilities for children by triggering their imaginations.
Book Drive at Prajapur Pada Anganwadi, Aarey Colony
This drive was organized on December 8, 2023. Anganwadi children were gifted 33 all-in-one rhyme books in the area. The event was sweetened with the distribution of sweet treats (healthy biscuits) to the children. As a top NGO in India, DAF initiated this mission to give a boost to educational development for the young preschoolers in one of Mumbai’s most underprovided areas.
Nourishment of body and soul: Aahar initiative
The Joy of Giving Project, the Aadhar Initiative, was an event held on August 26, 2024, at Shree Manav Seva Sangh Children’s Home in Sion West with the aim to provide healthy nutrition to children in the area. The event touched the lives of 125 orphaned children. The Aahar initiative is not just a physical meal but a means to share emotional nourishment for all.
The children received
A healthy and wholesome meal of dal, rice, vegetables, and chappati.
Basic stationary kits containing pencils, sharpeners, scales, and erasers
Cupcake dessert to sweeten the day
This initiative is a testimony to DAF’s commitment to holistic child welfare and continuous efforts to meet the educational and nutritional needs of the young minds in the country.
Empowering women through livelihood support
Sewing Machine Donation to Mrs. Sabita Lodh, December 5, 2023
In collaboration with the Jai Hind College Rotaract Club, DAF donated a sewing machine to Mrs Sabita Lodh. Mrs Lodh was struggling to support her family of two daughters after the untimely demise of her husband. She could not leave home to work outside because of responsibilities and restrictions; this sewing machine gave her a lifeline to earn a respectable living.
The girls were given toys, bringing in a small moment of joy in this difficult phase of life and letting them know that they are not alone. This gesture helped Sabita gain confidence in earning a livelihood and restored hope to the family.
Clothing with compassion
Maxi Gown Drives, January 1, 2024
DAF partnered with Gurukripa Vikas Sanstha and Beghar Niwas Sanstha in Dombivli to conduct the maxi gown distribution drive for women in need. The maxi gowns were collected, sorted, and distributed by the DAF volunteers. The event fostered community engagement and empowerment as the volunteers interacted with the destitute women, making them feel seen and supported.
Mother’s Day celebration, May 14, 2023
Spreading joy at the King George V Memorial’s Old Age and Handicap House, DAF celebrated Mother’s Day with the residents, who often go unacknowledged during celebratory occasions with
Cake cutting
Distribution of 16 maxi gowns
Healthy lunch for 55 residents, sponsored by a generous donor, Ms Khushi Mange
The elderly residents of the old age home response to the warmth and companionship by the DAF volunteers was heartwarming.
Reaching out in Time of Crisis
During the lockdown in COVID-19, DAF stepped in to help the daily wage workers, who were left without jobs or food, and served over 400 cooked meals daily. The wholesome plate contained chapatis, chana, and vegetable curries. This was their small part in helping the workers through the tough times, reflecting DAF’s agility and dedication in responding to humanitarian needs.
Why Debabrata Auro Foundation stands out
DAF is well recognized as one of the top 10 NGO in India 2025 because
It has deep grassroots impact, i.e., from slums to schools to old age homes, DAF reaches where it matters most.
All initiatives are documented with measurable outcomes.
DAF partners with educational institutions, local trusts, Anganwadi, and law enforcement to amplify the impact.
Encouraging others to pay it forward
The joy of giving spreads itself, inspiriting others to follow suit. DAF believes that by showing kindness to someone, you are setting off a chain reaction that will reach countless others. You don’t need to be a millionaire to make a difference; just a small step is enough. By donating a book, sponsoring a meal, contributing to awareness campaigns, or lending a hand in cleaning drives, your contribution can change lives.
Kindness is contagious. The Joy of Giving is not just generosity; it is a simple way to restore dignity, nurture dreams, and create opportunities. The Debabrata Auro Foundation, with its diverse and impactful initiatives, is creating big waves of change.

Join the Movement: Supporting Mata Chakari Devi Foundation’s Mission for a Better Tomorrow
Join the Movement: Standing with Mata Chakeri Devi Foundation's Cause for a More Improved Tomorrow In a nation as large and multi-faceted as India, the issues confronting society are as broad as its people. From empowering women and guiding youth to managing the elderly and preserving the environment, the call for empathetic, directed action has never been stronger. The Mata Chakeri Devi Foundation is at the vanguard of this movement, endeavoring relentlessly to build a better, fairer, and brighter tomorrow. As a registered trust with Government of India recognition, Income Tax Act 80G and 12A approval, and Niti Aayog registration, the foundation is the epitome of serving society with vision and integrity.
Understanding the Mission At its essence, Mata Chakeri Devi Foundation is fueled by a single mission: to create a country that is prosperous, developed, and culturally robust. Instead of talking endlessly about the issues infesting society, the foundation works towards identifying and rolling out realistic solutions. Its activities touch upon a broad spectrum of social issues that include:
Awakening nationalism among youth and students
Empowering women's self-sufficiency
Providing care and empowerment to the elderly
Creating awareness regarding key social issues
Promoting water conservation and eco-protection
Spreading government welfare programs among the needy
With this integrated approach, the impact of the foundation is long-lasting and expansive, reaching lives across generations and communities.
Empowering Women: The Foundation of Progress Women are the pillars of every successful community. The Mata Chakeri Devi Foundation believes that and has made women empowerment its focal point. With focused programs, the foundation empowers women to earn economic independence, acquire leadership skills, and gain the confidence to command their own destiny.
Major Initiatives:
Sewing Machine Distribution: With the provision of sewing machines and training, the foundation allows women to establish home-based enterprises, enabling them to support their families and communities.
Saksham Handicraft Centers: Vocational training in traditional crafts is provided in these centers, enabling women to acquire marketable skills and maintain cultural heritage.
Mahila Panchayat: Empowering women through councils enables them to take part in community decision-making as well as solve local problems.
Legal literacy, health, and computer literacy workshops further prepare women to meet challenges of the modern world. The effect trickles down: empowered women become mentors and role models, encouraging others to aim for self-reliance and leadership.
Nurturing Youth: Leaders for Tomorrow India's youth are its strongest asset. The foundation invests heavily in growing young minds, seeking to develop responsible, patriotic citizens able to lead and serve.
Youth Development Programs:
Scholarships for Education: Financial assistance for meritorious students to continue their higher education and vocational training.
Leadership and Mentorship Development: Debates, youth parliaments, and workshops develop leadership, critical thinking, and civic duty.
Sports and Culture Events: Teamwork, discipline, and national pride are fostered through activities such as sporting events and cultural activities.
Through values of unity, service, and cultural heritage, the foundation is molding a generation that is willing to drive social progress and nation-building.
Care for the Elderly: Dignity and Inclusion The foundation is of the view that all people, irrespective of age, are entitled to respect and dignity. Its programs for elderly persons aim at improving quality of life, enhancing social integration, and providing access to basic services.
Elderly Care Initiatives:
Community Engagement: Regular get-togethers, recreational activities, and volunteer visits minimize isolation and create a sense of community belonging.
Health and Wellness: Free health camps, eye check-ups, and well-being workshops cater to the special needs of senior citizens.
Legal and Welfare Assistance: The foundation provides support to the elderly in accessing legal rights and government schemes so that they are able to live with dignity.
These initiatives not only enhance the well-being of the elderly but also enhance intergenerational relations in communities.
Health Awareness and Social Welfare: Establishing Resilient Communities Health is at the center of social welfare, and Mata Chakeri Devi Foundation takes the initiative to foster wellness, prevention of disease, and social inclusion.
Health and Welfare Programs:

Tree Plantation and Cleanliness Drives: Regular tree planting and sanitation drives increase green cover and ensure environmental consciousness.
Through the inclusion of communities, the foundation encourages stewardship and shared responsibility for the world.
Closing the Gap: Bridging Government Welfare Schemes One of the major obstacles to social advancement is inadequate awareness and access to government welfare schemes. The Mata Chakeri Devi Foundation provides a critical connection, making sure that benefits are extended to those most in need.
Major Strategies:
Scheme Support Fairs: Such events unite government officials and citizens, and on-site facilitation of applications and grievance redressal is offered.
Outreach and Education: Door-to-door campaigns and workshops educate communities regarding accessible schemes and eligibility criteria.
Digital Literacy: Training enables individuals to use online portals and mobile applications to access government services, thereby facilitating welfare programs and making them more efficient.
These initiatives narrow the gap between policy and practice so that the most vulnerable are not excluded.
Spreading Awareness and Building Community The foundation's activities extend beyond service delivery; it is creating a sense of community and shared purpose. Through seminars, exhibitions, awareness runs, marches, and cultural programmes, the foundation unites people and brings them together to develop unity and pride in collective achievement.
Community-Building Activities:
Cultural Events and Festivals: Music, dance, and art festivals celebrate and bring people together, and foster intercultural understanding.
Awareness Runs and Seminars: Road safety campaigns, anti-drug campaigns, and gender equality seminars involve the public in effective social discourse.
Volunteerism: The foundation invites people of all ages to engage in community work, creating a spirit of solidarity and empathy.
Real Stories, Real Impact The greatest indicator of the success of Mata Chakeri Devi Foundation is the lives it has impacted:
Sunita Devi, who used to struggle to survive, is now operating a thriving tailoring shop from the sewing machine program of the foundation, and teaches other women in her village.
Amit Kumar, who received a scholarship, was the first engineer in his community and now offers his services to counsel other students.
Shanti Devi, a widowed grandmother, met and befriended friends and mentors through the foundation's senior citizen club, finding her purpose and dignity again.
These accounts are only a small representation of the foundation's wide-ranging influence, testifying to the power of compassion and service to change lives and communities.

Spreading Smiles: Why You Should Donate Food to Poor in India
In a country as diverse and dynamic as India, millions still struggle to access basic meals. Despite rapid development, hunger remains a persistent problem, especially among marginalized communities. If you’re someone looking to make a real difference, consider taking a step towards donation of food. When you donate food to the poor in India, you don’t just provide a meal, you offer dignity, hope, and a chance at better health.
Tumblr media
The Real Need for Food Donation in India
India houses nearly 200 million undernourished people, making food insecurity a pressing concern. From daily wage workers to homeless individuals, countless people live with uncertainty about their next meal. Ration donation and donate ration kit initiatives can significantly ease this burden, offering families nutritional support during tough times.
Government schemes, while present, often fall short of reaching every household. That's where citizen initiatives and NGO efforts play a critical role. Your small act of kindness can fill empty stomachs and light up lives.
Why You Should Donate Food to Poor in India
Food donation is one of the most direct and impactful forms of charity. Here's why it matters:
Immediate Relief: Hunger is urgent. A ration donation or a donate ration kit provides instant relief to families in distress.
Sustainability: Many NGOs focus on sustainable food drives. By contributing regularly, you help create a food bank that supports people long-term.
Waste Reduction: When businesses and individuals donate excess food, they help reduce food waste while feeding the hungry.
Mental & Physical Health: Consistent nutrition boosts immunity, especially important for children and the elderly.
Different Ways to Donate Food
There are many ways you can contribute:
1. Donation of Food Items
You can directly donate non-perishable food items like rice, dal, atta (flour), oil, salt, sugar, and spices. Dry ration kits are perfect for families to prepare meals over several days.
2. Cooked Meal Distribution
Many individuals and organizations cook fresh meals and distribute them in slums, railway stations, hospitals, or roadside settlements.
3. Support Community Kitchens
Several community kitchens operate across India. Donating groceries or sponsoring meals helps feed hundreds daily.
4. Collaborate with NGOs
Many NGOs like Akshaya Patra, Feeding India, and others run nationwide food drives. Your monetary contribution helps them expand their reach and efficiency.
How Ration Donation Changes Lives
A simple ration donation can mean the difference between going to bed hungry or not for many families. In cities and villages alike, day laborers, widows, and senior citizens rely on such support. By offering essentials like rice, pulses, oil, and hygiene items, you’re giving more than just food — you're restoring hope.
Especially during crises like pandemics or natural disasters, these donations are life-saving. A donate ration kit typically includes:
5kg rice
2kg wheat flour
1kg dal (pulses)
1ltr cooking oil
Salt, spices, sugar
Soap and sanitary items
Even a single kit can sustain a family of four for a week.
Donate for Livelihood: A Step Beyond Food
While food donations offer immediate relief, long-term change comes from supporting livelihood opportunities. When you donate for livelihood, you enable someone to earn a stable income. This could be through:
Sewing machines for women
Toolkits for daily wage workers
Grocery shop setups for unemployed families
Skill training sponsorships
Supporting livelihoods breaks the cycle of poverty and hunger permanently. It's a powerful way to extend your impact beyond meals.
Trusted Platforms to Make a Difference
If you're unsure where to start, here are some trusted platforms and NGOs:
Akshaya Patra Foundation – Meals for school children
Neki Basket – A grassroots initiative enabling individuals to donate food and daily essentials through community baskets placed in residential and public areas. It's a simple way to contribute locally and consistently.
Goonj – Ration and livelihood support
GiveIndia – Direct donations to verified NGOs
Robin Hood Army – Volunteers distributing surplus food
These organizations ensure transparency, proper distribution, and offer tax benefits for donations under Section 80G.
Make it a Habit, Not a One-Time Thing
Imagine the difference if every household contributed even one meal per week to someone in need. Consistency is key. Organize monthly drives in your community, involve schools and local clubs, and encourage kids to understand the value of giving.
Set reminders, allocate a small monthly budget, or dedicate birthdays and anniversaries as days of giving. The more regular your contributions, the more families you can uplift.
Kindness is the Best Ingredient
When you donate food to the poor in India, you create a ripple effect of kindness and compassion. From ration donations to supporting livelihoods, every gesture helps build a more inclusive and nourished society.
India doesn’t lack resources; it needs distribution, awareness, and heart. Be the change-maker. Whether it’s a packet of rice or a donation of Rs. 100, your action counts. Join the movement, donate today and feed not just stomachs, but dreams too.
