Any food recommendations for my chubby girl? She's eats about 2-3 cups a day (the scooper is supposed to be a cup but Idk looks like a cup and a half to me), goes for a daily mile walk, swims, and rough houses with her brother. Some days we do a bit of flirt pole and two walks a day everyonce in a while but she's still a bit chunky. She eats Victor Grain Free Ultra Pro. It's for high energy/active dogs so I'm thinking that could be part of the reason. I was considering either switching her to the Kirkland canned food or to the Victor Grain Free Hero but I'm leaning toward the wet food just so I can feel a little better knowing it might fill her up more. She also has a bit of a yeast issue on the top of her head which I plan to speak to the vet about but it seemed to clear up a bit when I originally put her on Victor. (Any other tips on yeast would be cool too. It's hard to see in most of the pictures but her head is a bit yellow and a bit bumpy. It doesn't seem to bother her at all though.) ANYWAY my point is she's not quite where I want her to be even with scheduled feeding and staying active. I also don't wanna go over what I'm paying now which is $52 a month for a 30 lb bag. This weight issue didn't really crop up until I spayed her but really any helpful advice would be nice.

Being Alone, Beautiful, and Cats: Beautifully cared for Senior Girl. A little shy, very friendly, affectionate and sweet. Likes the company of people. Likes toys. Walks well, just a little slow 13 yrs erd, 6 bs @Manhattan ao UE0% 47002 TO BE KILLED 11/26/18 Want to see the prettiest girl? Click and Meet our pretty senior, the beautiful Das!!!!! Lovely Senior Girl Das has been surrendered due to the owner's declining health and old age and has been beautifully cared for. She is a little shy, very sweet, friendly and affectionate and likes to be with people and to be shown love. Das walks well, despite having arthritis in one leg, does the stairs, she is just a little slow - but that doesn´t stop her from being interested in toys and even trying to run a little bit after the ball! Please share lovable Das for a good, caring and cozy retirement home full of love. A volunteer writes: Das is described as ‘a great friend and companion’, a calm gal, well mannered, shy at first with strangers and new situations, house trained and a good walker. Das was a little hesitant to exit her kennel and was at first timid with us. Eventually, she came to sit on her own by our feet and accepted caresses. What a beautifully cared for dog, what a sweetheart she is, trying to find her bearings on new grounds and with new people. She is brave, intuitive and although she ‘does not talk much’, she seems to have understood that we mean well. It will be the same with you, if you decide to open your home and your heart to Das, patiently waiting until she comes around and weaving slowly the ties that will make you friends forever. Das is dreaming to meet you and sweeten your life with her love. MY VIDEOS: Das is such a lovely dame <3 https://youtu.be/7B_oo1X-iHs Das in Iso https://youtu.be/kp5U3PJG4GQ Das ID# 47002 Manhattan Animal Care Center 13 yrs old, 61 lbs White / Brown Spayed Female Large Mixed Breed Cross Owner Surrender Reason: owner surrender due to the owner's declining health and old age Intake Date: 11-11-2018 SHELTER ASSESSMENT ~ EXPERIENCED HOME No young children (under 5) OWNER NOTES Basic Information: Das came in to our facilities as an owner surrender due to the owner's declining health and old age. Das is about 13 years old and the previous owner had her for 8 years. Das is a white and brown large mixed breed spayed female dog. The previous owner did not report any injuries or health concerns for Das, and she last went to the vet about 3-4 months ago. Previously lived with: 1 adult How is this dog around strangers? Around strangers, Das is fearful and may avoid contact. Once she warms up, she allows all handling. At first, however, she will shake and avoid contact. How is this dog around children? Das has not been around children. How is this dog around other dogs? Das has been around other dogs at the dog park. She reportedly ignores them and does her own things while in the dog runs. She does not play with other dogs. How is this dog around cats? Das has not been around cats before. Resource guarding: Das does not have any resource guarding behavior. Bite history: Das has never bitten or scratched another animal or person. Housetrained: Yes Energy level/descriptors: Low Other Notes: Das is very scared during loud storms or fireworks. She will hide. Loud sounds in general also scare Das. Her previous owner had no behavioral concerns for her. She is not bothered when held or restrained, when disturbed while sleeping or resting, when given a bath by her grooming, or when her paws are touched. The vet usually trimmed her nails and she tolerated it. She will bark if someone is in the hallway or if a strangers approaches her owner. Das does not like toys, so her owner never took one away from her. She does not jump on furniture, so the owner has never had to push or pull her off of furniture. Has this dog ever had any medical issues? No Medical Notes Das last went to the vet 3-4 months ago for her yearly exam. For a New Family to Know Das is described as being friendly, affectionate towards her owner, shy, and fearful. When you are home, she likes to stay in her favorite place - her large dog bed. Her dog bed is located in the living room. She was kept indoors only. She was fed Kirkland brand dry dog food twice a day. She does not have a favorite treat. She is very house trained and does not have accidents. She is used to three walks per day and she will use the bathroom on any surface outside. When left home alone, she lays on her dog bed and is well behaved. Das has a crate but she does not try to go in it. She knows the commands sit, come, shake, stop, and go to bed. She is used to walks on the leash and off leash walks at the dog park for exercise. She has never been walked without a leash. While on the leash, she pulls very hard. Das' favorite thing to do is lay down on her dog bed next to her owner. Her owner's favorite thing about her is what a great companion she is. BEHAVIOR NOTES Upon Intake: Upon intake, Das was initially very tense. She had a relatively stiff body, long lip, ears pulled back, and a tucked tail. After more time passed, her tail started to raise up and wag. Her ears were not pressed back against her head as much and she leaned in for pets. She walked easily on the leash and pulled a little bit. BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: EXPERIENCE (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with the behaviors outlined below) Recommendations: No young children (under 5) Recommendations comments: No young children: Due to the behavior seen in the care center, we feel that Das may be intimidated by young children. She needs a slow approach and time to warm up. She should never be forced to interact with new people, and should be allowed to greet and initiate an interaction at his own pace. Older, gentle children should have an in-depth interaction prior to adoption. Potential challenges: Fearful Potential challenges comments: Fearful: Das is described as shy with new people. At the care center, she is fearful. It is important to always go slow and give Das the option to walk away from any social interaction. Das should never be forced to approach anything that he is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Das' choice to approach a new person or thing. Das would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to his new surroundings.
