Who are the best parents in twisted wonderland ( excluding Lilia)

Well 😅 firstly, I don’t think the term “best” is very specific. Like, what exactly are we judging the “best parent” title on? How successful their kid is? How well the parent is able to provide for their kid? How well the kid does in academics? How socially gifted the kid is? How happy the kid is? How well the parent allows the kid to act independently, regardless of their safety? Or how well the kid is guarded from the world?

Simply put, there’s no blanket definition for what makes a parent a “good” one, and there’s a lot of factors to consider when we’re thinking about what a “good” parent is. We need to know what the baseline is, because the term “best” is comparative. “Best” implies “better than” something else, so we need to know what that “something else” is.

Mmm 🧐 since you identified Lilia as one of the “best” parents, I’ll use him to compare the other parents to his traits. Note that I’ll also be counting other relatives and guardians as “parents” for this list.

Based on this viewpoint, the “best” parents are, in my opinion:

Mama Spade — Described to be a single parent (we don’t know where Papa Spade is), Mama Spade admittedly isn’t characterized all that strongly compared to some of the other parents on this list. However, I think we can deduce that she is, at the very least, hard working (on account of having to support her family on her own) but also prone to worrying and self-doubt, as she blames herself when Deuce goes down the path of delinquency. She cares for her son to the point of never blaming Deuce for straying, and shoulders that blame herself in an act of self-sacrifice.

Granny Bucchi — Ruggie’s mother died giving birth to him, and his dad left the family, leaving Granny Bucchi as Ruggie’s legal guardian. While it’s true that she doesn’t offer a lot in terms of resources or wealth, she makes up for it with raw love, often scrounging materials and ingredients together to provide for both her grandson as well as the other poor children in their neighborhood. She’s doing her best so the kids can live to see tomorrow and make a brighter future for themselves.

Papa Schoenheit — Vil’s dad was a famous celebrity in his own right, but it seems from Vil’s flashbacks that his dad still made time for family in his busy schedule. In fact, his father was one of his biggest supporters, continuously cheering Vil on even when he was sad that he didn’t get the hero roles he coveted so much.

Papa Zigvolt — I’m specifically counting Sebek’s dad over his mom here because of the reasons detailed/speculated in this analysis post. To summarize, though Sebek’s parents married while facing social resistance, it is consistently his father that is said to be particularly sweet and supportive in spite of being looked down on.

Lilia — He’s not related by blood to Silver, yet it’s clear that Lilia has raised this human child as his own and cares for him very much. The thing about Lilia is that he still acts mischievous around Silver and isn’t afraid of turning on him either (see: Beans Day, Endless Halloween Night, etc), but when the going gets rough, Lilia will brave the storm to protect his son—just as he did when Silver first learned he was adopted.

Honorable mention (due to lack of concrete lore and a lot of it being my own speculation): Mozus Trein — Yes, I mean the Magic History Professor 😤 It’s always been a wonder to me why everyone defaults to Lilia as the quintessential “best parent” when Professor Trein is literally right there (not to say that Lilia is a bad parent, but people tend to overlook Trein for some reason). I think people often mistake “stern” as a bad thing, but it’s important that we balance that with love. We don’t have a lot of lore about his two daughters, but if I had to guess, I would say that though Trein is uptight (as he is with those at NRC), he also dotes on them (like how he is with Lucius) and cares for his children dearly (both his biological ones and his students).
