Over the weekend, I went to my family’s Cottage in the Northwoods for the first time since I was a kid! 🌲 I had a fantastic time, and also brought Kaya, Samantha, and Nellie (my mother and stepfather were very patient with me packing three dolls, two doll horses, a teepee, and a bunch of photography equipment 📷 into their van along with my suitcase 😂). I’m going to post the pictures of Sam and Nellie separately later on, but I wanted to share my Kaya photos now.

I’m pretty proud of the teepee: I made it myself!... or, sort of. I bought the first version of Kaya’s Teepee NIB recently on FB Marketplace. When it arrived, it was very clearly unopened… but the faux animal-hide fabric was cracking horribly from sheer age, and I didn’t feel right returning it because of something the seller clearly didn’t know about after opening it when it was NIB; besides which, shipping cost a lot, and it would barely have been worth it to return after shipping it back, even if the seller did accept a return. So I bought some microsuede and faux leather cord and, using the original fabric as a stencil, I made my own. I did everything myself, from sealing the edges so they don’t fray, to dying the flaps at the top with some Rit fabric dye left over from a different project; then I attached it to the original plastic tent sticks. I also changed a few things while I was at it to make the doorway larger so you can actually see inside. It’s not perfect (I messed up and cut both pieces the same, rather than as mirror images, so part of it is actually wrong-side-out; and I burned one side in the dying process, as well as splashing some dye on it) and I plan to re-do it later, but honestly I’m a bit amazed it came out as well as it did!

Happy National Fairy Day! Allow me to introduce you to my newest doll custom: Sugarplum! She's a G3 Abbey Bominable with a dress from Monique Verbana of Shadow High. Her hair, face, and wings were all made by yours truly. 💜 I absolutely love how this doll came out, she may be one of my favorites yet.

Her wings were particularly tricky to figure out. I started with some plastic packaging that I painted on with acrylics. Then I used spray adhesive and sandwiched it between two pieces of fairy film, then cut to size. After that, I added some extreme glitter glitter Modge Podge to the tips and sprinkled some more glitter on that to make it look frosted. Then I added a small flat wire and a magnet to the wings and her back so they will stay on. So far, she's held up well, and this will make storing her easier.

Yes, I did talk to this person while I used their late 18th-century tombstone as a prop. Yes I told him I hope he has a lovely day and thanks for helping me out. Maybe he'll be happy that somebody visited him personally. Yes, I do think about these things.

I also really like photos of dolls when you can see how small they are in the world.

Dragon in a Sea of Flowers

I finally took my sweet Ember outside for some photos with friends. These are my favorite ones of her. Though I do wish I'd taken my big DSLR with me, as I shot these with my phone. No matter, the photos still turned out lovely and only needed little editing!

It’s been blisteringly hot for like a week now 🥵, but finally we got a reprieve today (70° and partly cloudy 🌤️, with a nice brisk breeze 🌬️), so Addy and I took the opportunity to go to a local park down the street for a little photoshoot! 📸 She wore her old/new Summer outfit (I had this outfit as a kid, but sold it along with all of her other clothing a couple years back, before I decided to keep her, and just recently bought it again on Mercari). After we took the pictures, we rested on a bench and read one of her short stories 📖 together before walking back home.
