Our staff member ph00tbag (ie Sonic Rainboom) wanted to give a shout out to 4 special tracks this week. Give them a listen!! Canapplejack – Im/Mortal (feat. Blast Beat) Canapplejack wrote this phenomenal instrumental a while back. Blast Beat wrote lyrics for it that match the original instrumental perfectly. It actually feels like the lyrics and background were written together, which can be rare for a tune written like this. Faux Synder – Let it Glow (Let it Go Parody) I'm going to get a little personal here and say that I loved Idina Menzel's performance of Let it Go in Disney's Frozen, so I may be a little bit biased, here. But Faux Synder was similarly blown away, and acted on it by making a belter of her own with modified lyrics to suit Luna's descent into Nightmare Moon, and to make it sympathetic, to boot. I was certainly rooting for Luna by the end (but then I always do). The Frost Shard - Uncertain It's hard to assign any one genre to this tune. If nothing else, it's an interesting trip into the mental state of discordation. One word does come to mind when hearing the tune; creative. From the free-improv synth work to the liberal application of glitch effects on the drum, to the sudden arrival of a jazz ballad piano in the last minute, this tune demonstrates a creativity on a par with So Great and Powerful and Le Soldat Pony. Mathematicus & Dr. Dycer – Crooked: A Song for Pinkamena Diane Pie This one can't be pointed out enough. Mathematicus and Dr. Dycer lay on the grimdark and creepy as thick as it gets in this tune. It's a little bit predictable these days to see Pinkie played off as the crazy one who's liable to snap at any moment, but these two do it with such care in their sound selection and virtuosity in their singing, that the tune is effective nevertheless.
