Summary: After being rescued Miranda needs to spend some time in the medbay of the X mansion, and when she gets out of said medbay she has a really sweet, emotionally intimate moment with Kurt. -------------------------------
As soon as the doors opened Kurt looked up from where he had been sitting on a bookshelf, hiding in the shadows it provided while quietly praying to his God. Hank and Scott came in carrying a stretcher like thing, and it carried someone under Gambit’s jacket- In a heartbeat he teleported over to exactly the middle of the stretcher, following his two friends into the med bay at her side as much as he could be.
“Kurt,” at the sound of Hank’s voice the blue mutant immediately looked up, “do you know what Miranda’s medical history is like? She can’t exactly tell me herself, currently, and I’d rather know what I get myself into before I hook her up to the machinery in here.”
“Uh,” Kurt started, rapidly thinking back of all the conversations he had with Miranda, “she doesn’t have allergies, or anything of that sort; nothing I know of. Uh- she.. does have a history of panic attacks, though. She’s.. anxious. Sensitive. Wait, what do you mean hook her up?”
“I need to figure out if she’s unconscious after a massive shift in her power drained her, or if there’s something more nefarious going on there. And if she has a history of panic attacks then there’s necessity in checking the pace of her heartbeat. But that does require-“
“Going near her chest,” Kurt filled in, yellow eyes flicking to Miranda as Scott extremely gently lifted her into the bed and then left at Hank’s request. He bit his lower lip, debating what to do as the last thing he wanted was for her to wake up in some kind of state of undress; but on the other hand Hank couldn’t help her if he didn’t know what was wrong.
“Do.. you have to be the one to-“
“No,” Hank calmly reassured him, “we have Shadow; she is just as capable of placing the electrodes; and maybe having one of her trusted friends do the procedure even when she’s unconscious will help her comfort in the long run.”
Kurt thought about it for another moment, knowing in his heart that he had to make the right choice- And right now that was to keep her healthy.
“I…. Give me a moment to figure this out. I want her to be safe, healthy, but… Can you get Shadow? I’d like a second opinion here before I make any hasty decisions.”
Hank nodded, paging for Shadow as soon as Kurt spoke his request out loud. Kurt in his turn just went to Miranda’s bedside, ever so gently brushing a strand of her hair out of her face before pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead.
“I hope you know I would never agree to letting someone near your chest without good reason,” he whispered to her sleeping form, “if Shadow agrees with Hank that this is needed for your well-being, then… I love you, Miranda. I promise I’ll keep you safe and comfortable.”
Shadow joined them as soon as she got the message and she would’ve probably shown up on her own accord anyway; she was worried about her friend. As soon as she got into the med bay, Shadow piped up “What do you need?”
“I told Nightcrawler my plans of how to treat Miranda for her current state. She’s unconscious, has a history of panic attacks; I wish to check her heartbeat as well as run some other tests to figure out what is ailing her and what we need to do next,” Hank explained, with Shadow’s blue eyes lingering on Miranda’s sleeping form, “the… I don’t want to say problem, complication more like it is that Miranda is also a very private person-“
“Who won’t be keen on waking up with electrodes stuck to her chest and in a state of undress,” Shadow noted, “but with her powers silencing her heartbeat that’s really the only choice we have. I can place them on her no problem, but…”
Shadow’s voice trailed off as even she recalled how Miranda always vanished from the communal showers, her blue eyes slowly turning to Kurt. She thought the whole plan through herself for a minute, until she came up with an idea.
“Right, here’s the game plan if this is the route we’re taking. Kurt, you’re going to her room and grab something that’ll still cover her. Bra, tank top- it just needs to let her keep a sense of modesty while not being as restrictive as her current suit. Hank and I will stay in the room but we’ll let you redress her in privacy; I know she trusts you most of anyone in here. I’ll worry about sticking the electrodes on her. Sounds good to you?”
“… Yes. Thank you, Shadow, for thinking along with me.”
“Any time.”
And since they hooked Miranda up to the softly beeping machinery in the room, she had been there since she got carried in two days ago with Kurt being at her side the whole time, something he absolutely refused to budge on; he wanted to be there when she woke up in the hope to calm her if she woke in a panic. Rogue kept him fed, and tried to strike up the occasional conversation to convince Kurt to get some rest himself, but Kurt remained at Miranda's bedside in the med bay, curled up in a comfy chair he had pulled up to the bed himself. He did take the occasional catnap in there. But right now on this early morning he sat with his rosary necklace in his hands; rhythmically moving his thumb along the wooden beads while keeping his eyes shut and muttering prayers in his native tongue.
Please keep her safe. Please let her wake up. I love her. I love her more than anything; please let her come back to me.
He did find some comfort in his repeated prayer, in the consistent motion and the feeling of the necklace in his hands, but his heart whined in concern for Miranda. Beast and Shadow were around a lot, doing tests and pondering over the results, while Kurt couldn't find it in him to care much unless they came with good news, he just wanted her-
His tail had been ever so gently wrapped loosely around her wrist, the arrowed tip of it right underneath; and because the tip of his tail was right there under the palm of her hand he sensed the twitching of her hand and immediately looked at her; just to catch in time how sleepy green eyes slowly blinked open as soft hums and groans of someone waking from a long rest left her. Quickly twirling his necklace back over his head and around his neck, he scooted even closer to her; all so he had his hands free and could gently place one to her cheek.
"Hey, sweetheart" he said softly, though his voice was thick with emotional relief, "good morning."
"Kurt?" something deeply emotional wobbled in her voice, her tired eyes filling up with tears as she looked at him like she saw the sun rise for the first time in her life, "Kurt..."
"It's me," he immediately assured, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead, "I'm here; you’re safe, darling."
"Where's…?"
"Pietro? He's fine. Beast looked him over; he's scrappy and got off surprisingly light. He's back with the Brotherhood."
As she tried to sit up, he offered a hand to steady her. He crawled from his chair onto the edge of the bed, trying to be as close to her as he could to support her. He gently cradled her against him, feeling how she rested her head to his shoulder and seeing how she looked down at the wires and electrodes on her
"... They needed to check your pulse," he admitted quietly as he protectively wrapped an arm around her, "Gambit covered you with his jacket after your suit got torn, but… Shadow helped, she put those stickers on you; I just put some different clothes on you, we tried to keep you as covered up as we could. I… I wouldn’t have agreed to it if I thought it was unnecessary-“
"I know," she whispered, leaning further into him for comfort. She very slowly reached out for his other hand, the one that wasn't occupied. He blinked, but reached his hand out to her as she took it. She slowly pressed it palm down to where Sinister's henchmen had grabbed onto her, where her arm connected to her chest. Somehow, having his hand over the bruise that had formed there offered an added sense of comfort and security to her brain, especially with her hand right on top; her thumb ran ever so lightly over his hand. It was a sensation that never stopped in reeling her mind, the thought that someone's physical touch could be such a source of safety and comfort.
“Normally I would tell you to lay back down,” Shadow remarked in a semi dry tone, a tint of worry ringing through with it, “it’s better for the ECG if your heart is beating at rest, but.. It hasn’t done anything weird since we hooked you up to the machine. More importantly; I am so glad you’re awake, Miranda. How are you feeling?”
".... Heavy," Miranda eventually settled on after a moment of thinking about it, "Tired, and heavy. Everything... feels heavy... like lead." "I'm sorry I wasn't there, among the crew send to rescue you," Kurt whispered to her, very gently pressing a kiss to her forehead
"It’s… okay," Miranda said gently, instinctively pressing herself closer to Kurt, "I’m… You’re here. I- I need you.”
She wasn't lying. The way she was pressed up and curled up against him, hidden away in his embrace, spoke volumes of how desperately she was seeking his comfort right now. Kurt let out a very slight sigh, gently tightening his protective grip on her a little more. She needed him. That notion only sunk in after a moment, solidifying to him what really was his priority right now; which was to make damn sure she felt safe.
"I'm not going anywhere, Miranda. I'm glad you're home.”
Shadow's blue eyes went to the machine that kept track of Miranda's heartbeat; it hadn't really shown anything noteworthy over these days aside from an ever so slightly faster beat, which had been easily attributed to the anxiety and stress her friend must have been through ever since being kidnapped in the first place. Then, she did see something interesting, one of her eyebrows slowly raising at the development. She paged in Hank, eager to discuss something with him
Hank, while only just having turned in for the night, hadn't exactly been asleep when Shadow called him back into the med bay. He was slightly groggy about it, but no less kind and just as relieved to see Miranda finally awake.
"Good morning, Miranda. It's good to see you awake," he said softly, before turning his attention to Shadow instead, "you needed me for something?"
"Since waking up her heartrate has gone back to what I expect it to be," Shadow said, an air of lightness to her tone as her blue eyes very slowly went back to where Miranda was leaning against Kurt, "all her other readings are normal as well- I don't see the need to keep her in the med bay any longer, but I don't have the authority to dismiss her from your care. Her current complains are just feeling tired and heavy; fatigue from overexertion."
"Mhh," Hank gave as a noise to imply he was listening, taking the variety of result sheets as they were handed over to him while putting his reading glasses on, "that makes sense; you got out of it all remarkably well, Miranda. Just completely drained in energy levels so it's still going to take quite a bit of rest for you to feel better. I'd say at least another day or two of bedrest would do you well."
"Which, if I may, is not exactly necessarily in here. I think Miranda would get a better, proper and more restoring sleep in the comfort of her own room, or Kurt's room, than she does here surrounded by beeping machinery," Shadow chimed in, with Hank nodding in agreement

Shadow worked as quick and fast as she could without causing unneeded discomfort to her friend, and Kurt just gently distracted Miranda during the whole thing so she didn't have to focus on the whole removal process.
"There you go. There's some glue residue left, want me to remove that as well?" Shadow asked softly with Miranda shaking her head, "okay. Do try to get it off you before going to sleep, okay? Leave it to Kurt if you must."
"You're free to go, Miranda," Hank chimed in from the distance.
"Thank you both for taking care of her," Kurt said softly, gently and easily picked Miranda up bridal style as she immediately nestled herself back against his chest. He made sure he had a good but comfortable grip on his girlfriend before teleporting both of them over to her room. Hank stretched a little bit, before getting up. “Let me know if I’m needed for anything, but otherwise I am calling it a night. … Yes, Shadow?” Hank asked when he saw the shimmer of amusement in her blue eyes. “You know,” Shadow started, looking at the result sheet of the ECG reading of Miranda’s heart, “Ebak once told me the reason he knew about Miranda and Kurt before anyone else is how she ‘visibly relaxes’ whenever Kurt is around. I think he’ll find it highly entertaining that the science proves it’s not just visual, it’s physical.” As soon as Kurt had made it to Miranda’s room, he gently placed her down on her bed. She held onto him, not wanting to lay down just yet despite the fact that it felt like her bones and muscles alike were begging her to. Kurt held a gentle hand to her lower back, supporting her as much as he could.
"Are you alright?"
"...... can you take the glue off, please?" her voice was so soft and slow from her exhaustion, shaking with vulnerability as she knew there was no way in hell she was doing that on her own with how heavy everything felt, "it's just- I can’t… I-I need your help."
"Of course,” Kurt's voice was equally soft, taking one of her hands and gently running his thumb over the back of it, "are you sure, though? I know you dislike your chest very much… “
“I don’t.. hate it,” Miranda started, a sense of confusion mixing into the tiredness of her voice, “I just don’t like how other people react to it. As if.. it says something about me as a person; or as if they’re the only parts of me worthwhile in anyway. And- And I’m complaining about this to the Nightcrawler.”
“To someone who understands more than anyone where you’re coming from, here,” Kurt assured softly, “Trust me, I do- It’s more like, it’s just a part of your body you don’t want people fixating on just like how people fixate on.. well, honestly, the whole of me, and never look past that. Right?”
She nodded as he softly pressed a kiss to the back of her hand. He thought for a moment, not wanting to discard her request but also wondering how he was going to do this while remaining respectful of her boundaries.
“… If I help you with this I will have to move your top around a little, if that’s okay with you? ��
"Uhmm," she started, looking down at her top and letting out a sigh, “I’m…”
She didn’t know what to say, really. Part of her wanted to do it herself, but with how tired she felt that seemed like a completely impossible task. Deep green eyes looked into warm yellow ones; Kurt could see both the bone deep exhaustion she felt- and something else. Something fragile, but warm at the same time.
“… Yeah, that’s okay. I trust you,” she admitted softly, and he pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead after she spoke.
“I’m glad to hear that. Give me a moment to get a wash cloth, okay?” As soon as he left he reappeared with a somewhat damp, soap-lathered wash cloth. His free and warm hand moved the fabric of her tank top aside with the utmost respect, ever so gently cleaning up the residue left behind from the electrodes. He could feel her shiver occasionally, halting his movement when she did "Are you okay?"
"Y-yeah," she murmured, “I.. you’re so gentle, and sweet, just.. thank you.” He gave her a soft smile as he carefully continued until every last bit of the glue was removed, gently placing her tank top back the way it was and placing the washcloth in the laundry basket nearby
"Thank you for trusting me with this. There you go. Better?"
"Much better."
As he slowly helped her lay back down on the bed, his sharp ears twitched as he picked up a distant sound, blinking slightly as he was trying to figure out what it was.
"... Something is scratching at the door."
The second the words had left his mouth, the crying- no, wailing started. The vocal, absolute dismay of something that desperately wanted to get inside and didn't have the dexterity needed to open the door. A small noise left Kurt as he realised what it was, pressing a quick kiss to Miranda's cheek before poofing himself over to the door. As soon as he opened it something fuzzy came barreling though the door, weaving between his legs only to make a direct b-line to Miranda. Only once he had made his way onto her stomach did Noctis slow down, carefully creeping up and delicately sniffing at where the bruise and the slight marks from the electrodes were with the highest level of concern. Within seconds Miranda lost the battle with her tears, slowly lifting up one of her heavy arms to pet the feline.
"Noctis," she whispered, her tired voice full of emotion. Big amber eyes snapped up towards her, the cat sniffing at her face for a moment before draping himself over her chest and shoulders; pressed up as much into her neck as he could be and immediately covering everything from her neck down to the edge of her tank top. He purred, deeper and lower than usual- meant to try and heal his injured friend. Kurt quietly joined them, sitting on the edge of the bed as he watched Miranda slowly pet the cat; her need for the comfort of the fur underneath her fingers as she listened to the purring outweighing the heaviness of her arm. Plus, now that she was already petting the cat her arm didn't move much; slightly using Noctis’ body as support while very slowly running her hand over his coat and occasionally rubbing one of his ears.
"He’s been worried about you," Kurt admitted, "We all have been. He's only been eating properly when eating together with Autumn."
He reached over, gently scratching the black feline behind the ear.
"I could tell he missed you," he said, as he slowly lay down on his side and curled up to Miranda as much as he could, pressing a kiss to her cheek. “I missed him too. And you. And everyone else,” Miranda said before a yawn left her. “Get some rest, my love,” Kurt whispered, gently draping his arm over her stomach, “you’re safe now. I swear.”

hi there! cardio is my favorite!! focus on the physiology and everything else will follow. understand the wigger’s diagram well because when you get to second year, you’ll be able to relate it to pharmacology (those that affect preload and afterload).
for ECG, know the leads, their placement, and the basic rhythms (first degree heart block, mobitz type 1 and 2, etc). use mnemonics and stories!! :-) at your level you don’t have to read a 12-lead ECG yet, so focus on the basics first.
