Album Showcase: DATALEAK i - gripp, Ashlee Haze, & curveBREAKERS

Uh, Well hi there. It's been awhile hasn't it? I got pretty busy with at first artfight, work, then loosing my job, school, and then getting a new job. But I finished this year's artfight, school has been more manageable, and I have been adapting to my new job. Starting with my first request. Now, I am semi-open for requests and the reason I say semi is because I have a HUGE backlog but also it depends if I am interested in what is being requested.

I like the cover for the EP, it is eye catching with what looks like a decaying nigh time city but torn into the picture is the sun setting above the water while someone is dancing. It gives off the feeling of there is hope in the world despite everything.

This request was from @sxrgripp and it is eeir first EP. I never really expected someone making music to come to me this early on to request me to review their stuff but hey it's cool regardless. DATALEAK i was released on June 6th, 2023 making this the most recent album I have reviewed so far. The record label for the album is called glassEyeballs, LLC which is owned by gripp, one of the musicians behind the album and the one who produced the album. According to the post ee had been alluding to the making of this EP for six months which I take it as it took six months to make said EP. Gripp is the owner of glassEyeballs, LLC which is not just an indie music label but also a media investment and holding company. It is connected to Construct College of Creative Pedagogy and Philosophy Media Group . According to the about page on Construct,

"The Construct College of Creative Pedagogy is a digital learning community dedicated to offering free educational opportunities to students marginalized from traditional academia. Through online classes and workshops, the college encourages participants to develop skills and scholarship whose utility are born from sustainable material value rather than association with colonial and imperial systems. Construct is anti-bigotry in all its forms. We endeavor to create spaces that resist classism, misogyny, transphobia, white supremacy, and the social structures that support discrimination."

Which I think is super cool and I do notice one of the classes being offered is an introductory course on javascript. In an age right now where we kind of need to know how to work with javascript to CSS when making our own websites since a lot of the big social media sites are falling apart I do like this is being offered openly. Philosophy Media Group which according to their about,

"PMG is a network of southern creators and creators of color committed to creating innovative art and meaningful media."

What started as a way for Ashlee Haze to make art without worrying about access to a stage since Covid19 grew into this group to help promote voices that would not be heard otherwise. You know as I mention gripp and Ashlee Haze lets talk more about the musicians behind this EP.

Starting with curveBREAKERS which at first seemed like their only music experience was on this EP but that was far from correct. They have a soundcloud and they are electro-classical music collab duo made up of gripp as the writer and producer and Dylan Griffith as composer and educator. Within their soundcloud it states,

"The collective has produced several commercially-released recordings, created musical cues for independent theater and short film projects, and taught college-level music production classes. Their work focuses on the juxtaposition of different styles and artistic elements: classical with hip-hop, analog with digital, and oppression with joy."

So far they have one track out and I have been listening to it as I wrote the section about the duo and I like what I am hearing so far. Also, their site having little color blocks to click on which each make their own sound is really cute.

Ashlee Haze is a poet and spoken word artist who was the main person behind PMG but was also a feature on Blood Orange track, By Ourselves, on the album Fleetown Sound. She released the book Smoke, a collection of poems about grief and the strength it takes to sit with it. There is her spoken word album of the same name as well which I wonder if it is meant to be the audio book form of the book. I do want to check out both at some point to see.

You may have noticed I have been mentioning gripp a lot throughout the review so lets talk more about eem. Marshall "gripp" Gillson is a writer, programmer, and educator based mainly online. I have talked about the fact ee is part of curveBREAKERS, works with PMG, is one of the educators at Construct, and is the founder of the label glassEyeballs, LLC. I decided to look more into eeir other musical ventures and I found this site called deezer which I never heard of before. According to eeir page on the site ee has been involved with many different projects which I will check out in the future. From what I have seen gripp goes by ee/eem/eeir pronouns and I ask everyone to be respectful of that. I won't tolerate someone being a dick about that.

Now before I get to the album proper I should state that my familiarity with hip hop is well limited. You may have noticed most of my music reviews so far have been on rock, punk, metal, and such in the broadest sense. That is mainly because I grew up with those genres. My exposure to hip hop was through big hits like Whoop there it is, U can't Touch This, and Baby Got Back. Sure I grew up with the ringtone era I would hear play on the bus' radio to middle school but I only started to go out of my way to listen to rap by the time I was in high school when I would start watching reviewers such as Toddintheshadows and The Rap Critic. Even now I am still learning and expanding my horizons on the genre. So I do hope I can do this EP justice reviewing it with the perspective I have.

Track 1: Greens & Water - Ashlee Haze

First track starts out strong with a nice and catchy beat. It would not be out of place in a club, bar, or a hookah lounge. It can keep the party going and I do appreciate that in songs like this. Ashlee's singing voice is nice and can carry the song. When I started writing this way back in June the only place to read the full lyrics is Spotify which I don't use. Lyric Genius has not made a page on this song as well as I am writing this in November of 2023. Because of such I have to play it by ear about a lot of the lyrics. That and usually me posting lyrics would be easy, however I knew once I would get around to songs that feature the n word I would have to do the lyrics differently. I'm white and I want to be careful when talking about this topic. Some have told me that if I am quoting then I can post the N-word just as they say it since it would be just quoting it. However I am not really sure that is the right course of action for me to do. So I'll go about this to the best of my abilities and PLEASE feel free to like critique me on this stuff because hey I want to improve.

Anyway, from what I can gather from the song on my own and with some help from a friend of mine since I do thinking having a second set of years does help with lyric deciphering. I know this first track is about the narrator in a club setting trying to have a fun time smoking weed though lame guys can’t really keep up or are a bother. The narrator brags about herself which hey good for her. Bad girls have every right to hold themselves up and have a good time partying. They shouldn't have to deal with shitty guys being pissy at them. Though there is a transition within the song that changes with the lyrics,

Eat your greens and drink your water and and keep your third eye open

Which comes off more like a nice reminder of keeping yourself well fed and hydrated as you are smoking weed. At least this way you don't have a bad time while getting high. Especially afterwards talking about floating up and such.

Track 2: Cop the Summer - gripp

What stood out to me about this track was the instrumentals, it has a chill atmosphere yet something about it scratches the right itch in my brain. I began tapping my fingers along with the song as I was listening to it. I think the reason it scratches my brain a bit in the right spot is that something about it reminds me of reggae which I could be incorrect about the music comparison since sadly my knowledge on reggae is rather limited. But I don't know, something about it reminds me of that genre.

From the lyrics it seems like the narrator is enjoying the summer drinking while buying whatever he wants. Like he has something to prove with showing off his wealth. One of my friends also seemed to have also gleamed that as well from it. But the ending line

She's bad for you block her number

It then makes me wonder if he is buying stuff for this girl? That in a weird way they are using each other. For him he gets something physically and emotionally from the girl. While she in turn is just using him for money. Which this would have an effect on the high wealth the narrator has. Or maybe not.

Track 3: Upset (feat. Rhayne Thomas) - curveBREAKERS

This track features blues vocalist Rhayne Thomas which is very fitting for this song. This track stood out to me the most because it is not just slow song but is more grounded being about economic struggle. The first line being,

Oil man gotta bail out, Banker got a bail out, slaver got a bail, and I got debt

What follows afterwards is places such as airlines and Chrysler also getting bail outs while the narrator continues to be in debt. Clearly tired and hurt from the reality of capitalism prioritizing these businesses over the common people.

They're closing down the schools but opening the bars, they'll put you in a cage for getting free

Promise salvation to keep you working praying for a day you'll never see

The line about the schools got to me since growing up I went to an elementary school in a pretty poor area of the city. It's budget was limited and the parents along with the kids there struggled greatly financially. Many of the children relied on free lunches since their parents could barely make enough to feed themselves. That and I know the schools that tend to close down are those in low income areas and those in towns that barely get any funding from the government. Leading to people living there making the choice of either leaving for better opportunities or staying and pushing through it. Bars do bring in the most money from working in food service and while bars do have their place it there are critiques of it from the more negative aspects of bar culture with people using alcohol as a coping mechanism from the pains of reality. Which a lot of those pains are caused by economic strife brought upon capitalism. A lot of unjust arrests happen for just existing be it if you are homeless trying to sleep somewhere or if police think you look "suspicious" outside a store. Within prison you are made to work as basically slave labor with the condition of you'll eventually be let out. Which not all get to see since a lot of prisons have terrible living conditions. All of this has the repeated line, "And I'm upset", throughout the song. Which is an understandable emotion that I feel when I see stuff like that happen.

This EP was a pretty good and fun listen. To be honest, I like all three tracks equally. While the third one stands out the most stylistically since it takes a more blues approach (which is appropriate for the them of the song) and the fact there is a bit of what sounds to be an electric guitar in one part which surprised me. The first track is a fun club song it jam out to while getting high. The second track would be my pick for my absolute favorite if I had to only choose one song. The instrumentals of it really clung to me and I won't forget it.

You can listen to the whole album through streaming such as Youtube Music, Spotify, and Apple Music. You can also purchase the album through Amazon and itunes. I do want it to eventually be put on bandcamp as well since I would think that would help get more the word out about this project but here is hoping! I highly recommend checking this EP out along with all the other projects the artists behind this have done.

update on bunduki: i've been researching and i've been poking at an ewokese pronunciation scheme bc i need to have one in order to know how the words woulda acclimatized upon being loaned. tho honestly first i should figure out what words i even need to loan. cuz the core vocab is gonna be finnish words derived from proto-uralic/proto-finno-ugric. maybe some archaic/dialectal ones. pii for tooth my beloved. peni for dog my beloved. emo/emä for mom my beloved. and then some 1500s swedish loans cuz, see, förräderi is literally swedish. gonna be fun to just make the whole thing weird.

also i guess the writing system is gonna have traits from aurebesh (but an abudiga) since the followers of palawa were from the core (i guess ultimately all humans are from the core, since coruscant is supposed to be the og human homeworld? but the palawans are traceably so)

also ironic that despite very heavily basing everything on finnish i'm already putting in more effort than most canon swars creators. lol.

random but nobody putting in sh or th into palawan/bunduki words/characters' names my beloved. i mean. even if i'm gonna add ð & θ back in i still like that they didn't just do All The Englishy Things yanno? chaq-quaj and the 'ee's are the most egregious things. but i solved the 'ee's anyway (/ie̞/). i could totally use qu for ku, btw. (it was used in 1500s) i could also totally use q for a word-final glottal stop like võro—finnish has the glottal stop too, just unwritten, bc proto-finnic, the reconstructed common ancestor of finnish and võro, seems to have had certain word-final consonants that disappeared in finnish. the k has mostly disappeared in all finnic languages iirc, the -h yet shows up in the karelian language, and in western finnish dialects it has changed place. (karelian language veneh vs western finnish venhe. eastern finnish vene became the finnish standard for 'boat') i could also say that the qu&q are historical—they could very well have survived in a name. we'll seeeeee

also hella might call humans something derived from zhell just cuz. sel'i? sel'inen? (hehe like ihminen, get it?) finnish doesn't quite like consonant clusters in the beginning of words outside of stadin slangi or rather recent loans, so c (ts/θ) seems unlikely. ETA: probably actually hel'i, not 100% on the diminutive

Ok, so epithet erased is based off a TTRPG campaign that used to be on twitch called Anime Campaign. It was removed as to not spoil epithet erased and Jelloapocalypse (creator of EE and GM for anime campaign) has repeatedly said that it was mostly pretty bad comparatively to EE in response to people complaining about it being removed.

Tho Jello the episodes of anime campaign that inspired the cowboy arc and prison of plastic for free on youtube with added commentary and a lot of edditing since what they would spoil has already appeared in the show.

Anime Campaign is the source material that epithet is based off of but there are a lot of differences. Apparently in the original Giovanni was and insecure loser who eventually became really cool. In EE he starts really cool.

A lot of the original players in anime campaign are voice actors and have therefore maintained there role. Ramsey and Sylvie are both voiced by the people who played them in Anime Campaign. (Zack Maher and William Sopp respectively)

So yes it is based on an Tabletop RPG though they did not use the system Dungeons and Dragons but instead a custom system called Anime Campaign (a confusing name to say the least)

Would you mind telling us your observations about the spell card system of Mugenri?

Ah of course! Let's look at this magical spell-storing and casting system, ubiquitous across the entirety of Mugenri.

The Spell Card System

To examine all this, I'll divide this up into several sections:

History of spell cards and the spell card system

Making spell cards

Using spell cards

The rules of the spell card system

Spell cards within the context of Mugenri

History of Spell Cards

This isn't going to be a very long section, we don't know much about the spell cards' and the system's history, but what we do have comes from Haiji Senri, major spell card nerd, so I do think it's trustworthy.

Below: Haiji and (a small fraction of) their collection of cards.

According to Haiji, the spell cards and their accompanying system were invented by the second-generation Senri priest.

Considering that the first Senri priest was amongst the people that created Mugenri, this would mean that they've been around for almost the entirety of Mugenri's history.

Making Spell Cards

According to the trial version of the readme.txt files for EE and EMS (and I stress trial version cause I'm not sure if it applies anymore), each spell card is physically similar to karuta playing cards, not unsimilar to modern playing cards.

Making a spell card is a complex affair, and make take a long time. To make one, the caster needs to fully execute the attack once, which imbues the card which their skills and abilities.

For any tools used during the spell cards, like Yago's weapons, Tsurubami and Tsubakura ink swords, Kaoru's arrows, etc., it differed from

Learning to do this requires practice, and spell makers are the minority even within Mugenri. However, there is a unique category of people known as "naturals" who simply intuitively know how to make spell cards.

Naturals

The Spirited Away Outsiders From EE

They all* learnt how to create and use spell cards intuitively while in their spaces within Tsurubami's Curtain of Awakening.

All Senri Shrine priests

With the likely exception of the first Senri priest, during whose time spell cards didn't even exist yet, all Senri Shrine priests are apparently natural spell card makers, Tsurubami Senri included.

This does raise a curious question about the second Senri priest, how could they be a natural, someone who intuitively knows at creating the magical cards they themself invented?

All homunculi

Since homunculi are born with all knowledge in the world, it is only natural that they are naturals at spell-making, Para included.

Shion

Shion is apparently a natural, likely thanks to the many souls that make up their existence.

Curious Cases

So you may have noticed the asterisk in the EE outsiders section, this is because of Yabusame Houlen. While we don't know how, JynX has mentioned that Yabusame actually knew about the Mugenri spell card rules prior to entering the Dimensional Cave in EE.

Another curious case is Fumikado. While they're almost certainly not a natural, Haiji is curious as to how transferring their soul into a homunculus has affected their spell cards.

Using Spell Cards

While spell card crafters are few and far between, everyone can use spell cards, even average folk.

Below: A spell card prior to activation.

However, only the spell card's original creator can draw out the full power imbued in the card, while others can only draw out half of the card's power at most. In fact, the further out of one's league a spell card is, the less of the spell's power can be drawn out.

Additionally, the creator of a spell card can make infinite copies of them, unless their card is taken from them.

Final point, while spell cards have only been shown to be used to perform danmaku attacks, they can apparently be used for other types of attacks as well. Thus it can be deduced that spell card duels are not restricted to danmaku battles either.

The Spell Card System

The Mugenri spell card system can be understood through 3 rules:

The loser must obey a single command from the victor.

Failure to comply will result in Mugenri erasing your existence.

The loser may negotiate the completion requirements.

A point that may need expanding upon is what determines a victory, and this can be best demonstrated by the EE stage flavour texts:

Main Story Stages 1-5 & Extra Stage

Stage 1 What's necessary in this place isn't raw power, but rather skill and imagination within established rules. Stage 2 At times, in order to show off in such a way, it may be necessary to include futile movements and ineffective attacks in one's options. Stage 3 Because, in this world, there's no use in trying to make your enemy surrender with just a simple victory. Stage 4 Show off your overwhelming difference in power on equal footing in order to mesmerize your opponent, and make them surrender. Stage 5 Gain a single instance of control over your opponent by making them feel an absolute sense of defeat. Extra Stage The loser must submit to the victor... Here, this ubiquitous truth is a basic principle and eternal standard.

So basically, there is no rule or criteria, what matters, is mutual acceptance. This extends to compliance with the victor's order as well, here are a few examples to demonstrate this:

BPoHC Shrine Team vs. Hooaka Shitodo

When the Shrine team defeated Hooaka in BPoHC and demanded to know who attacked them, Hooaka reasoned that since it was a three-on-one match that they lost, they need only give one-third of the answer.

The team (or rather, Tsubakura Enraku) accepted Hooaka's reasoning, and indeed Hooaka remains un-erased by Mugenri.

RMI Secret Team vs. Tenkai Zuifeng

After Suzumi wins their duel against Tenkai, the latter accidentally forgot to comply with the order they received, but were reminded to do so by Suzumi and again got away unscathed.

Spells Cards Within Mugenri

Starting and ending with short sections! How are spell cards and the spell card system viewed in Mugenri? Well for an interesting point, we can look at the final chunk of EE stage text that we never used:

Stage 6

In the first place, there are none here who would do something so meaningless as take another's life in battle.

So at the very least, we can see that no one would normally use spell card duels to take another's life, at least not under the normal Mugenri culture (whatever unified culture such a wide place could be said to have).

Additionally, we do know that knowledge of spell cards and the spell card system are apparently widespread even amongst the common folk, although it's difficult for them to master it.

And that's everything I think we have on the spell cards and the spell card system right now!

We honestly have a lot on the specifics of the system itself, and I personally would love to see more about how the people of Mugenri interact with and think about the spells.

One last curious point, actually, is that spell cards may not necessarily only originate from Mugenri, despite having seemingly originated there! JynX kind of implies this, but we just don't know enough about this to expand on it, so it'll have to wait~!

SW OC SPECIES: YAGUARI PART 1/?

((remember when i said id post these in a few days? well im doing it all at once lmao anyways this is background info on my oc sheerah

basically where her planet is located, their beliefs, how their society works, the basics of what you need to know

there's a lot of info and i don't wanna clog up people's dash with a long post so hit read more))

Name: Yaguari (Yah-gwar-ee) (is the same in plural)

Planet: Dimat (Dee-maht)

DIMAT

Dimat is the planet where the Yaguari people originally came from. They have two sister planets that they also live on. The two other planets have alien species that are native and not Yaguari. These planets are in the Outer Rim.

There are three types of ecosystems that are on Dimat. Largely, there is the rainforest/jungle ecosystem. It gets very hot and humid there. It rains often which creates seasonal flooding. Because of this wet climate, trees and vegetation are lush green while the sky is often grey. There are many areas where the forest is dense. Trees are also huge, Yaguari children have been known to “surf” on tree vines and branches. It's very easy to get lost in the deep jungle though.

Further away from the jungle, more eastward, is Dimat’s mountain climate. There is significantly less jungle and more forests with tall trees and mountains that reach high elevations. Here is a more temperate climate than wet and humid. Temperatures are cooler and it snows ontop of the mountains but not enough to cover the landscape.

Westward from the jungle and the mountains lies Dimat’s desert region. The region has long stretches of sandy desert with oases scattered about. It rains hardly ever and temperatures run severely high.

PHYSIOLOGY

Yaguari can live up to 1,000 years old according to their records however most die somewhere between 750-900 years old if they haven’t died in battle before then. No one knows why they live this long, perhaps they are favored by the gods in this way.

They have pointed ears that are usually curved downwards. Their ears resemble a feline animal that lives in Dimat’s jungle. Because of this, there is a story in the Yaguari religion of how their people were created from this animal. This feline is therefore viewed as sacred and is to never be poached and killed under any circumstances.

Yaguari are known for their large sharp fangs (think a cross between a tiger and a snake’s fangs).These fangs are also highly prized on the black market in other systems.

Yaguari have skin tones like humans with just as many variations as them. There are more color variations in eye color however, some Yaguari are born with irises and slit pupils like a cat (said to be from the divine feline creature). People with these eyes are viewed as highly attractive as they have divine eyes”. Yaguari can see in the dark, their eyes glow.

They seem to have a resistance to most poisons. A Yaguari can be poisoned but only by an extremely high dosage. They can usually tell if their drink has been poisoned by the taste.

Their nails can grow sharp and warriors often sharpen their nails even more. Yaguari are an agile, flexible group that are a little stronger than humans and a little faster.

They have the ability to growl and purr. Warriors usually belt out a super loud cat-like battle cry during battles. A warrior’s first battle cry is inscribed on their torc.

YAGUARI RELIGION

Their religion is polytheistic. There are numerous gods, goddesses, divine beings, mythical beasts, etc.

They have an ultimate creator/destroyer god. This god has both breasts and male genitalia. They have multiple arms as well. The god is usually seen seated criss-cross, it’s many arms surrounding its body, it’s open maw showing it’s sharp teeth and tongue, eyes at the viewer. This god is seen as both female and male. It is the creator of all things as well as the destroyer. The arms surrounding its upper body creates a circle shape.

The circle is the most important aspect of their religion as it represents the life cycle: birth, war, death. The life cycle shows up in many aspects of their life and symbolism is found in many of their artwork.

The Yaguari are a war-like society. They believe to live is to fight and sacrifice for their gods as they feed off of the life force of mortal beings. Because of this belief, Yaguari are well-known for sacrificing people to their gods (mostly to their creator god). In the beginning of their history, the Yaguari fought each other in a tribe vs tribe type of way before they eventually banded together and travelling the Outer Rim to fight other species in the name of their gods. On other planets they have invaded, the Yaguari will fight and kill on the battlefield but they will also take prisoners of war back to their town or village on Dimat and sacrifice them there.

Ritual sacrifices are bloody. They dismember their victims and cut them in such a way as to bleed them profusely. There are different ritual fighting moves that are done to dismember the victim. The heart of the victim is cut out and the priests and top warriors each take one bite of it. This is symbolic of them taking the lifeforce of the victim which imitates the gods soaking up the energy from the sacrifice. Men, women and children are all present when the ritual happens. After the ceremony, there is music and dancing and food and drink for everyone. Think of it like a big party but with a dismembered corpse in the background.

In their religion, death is not necessarily viewed as scary since it is the final stage in the life cycle.

The life cycle is a concept that is continued in other aspects of the Yaguari culture. In the jungle climate, they believe that the cycle is tied to the rain. The rain washes away the old and brings in the new. Change is the main point here.

The Yaguari that live in the jungle feel more connected to the sky god. They know he brings in the rain, wind, the sun, the floods, the clouds, change of colors in the sky, they are all viewed as different stages.

Yaguari believe all things have a soul or life force.

Comparative Study on Flutter State Management

Background

I am going to build a new flutter app. The app is aimed to be quite big. I'm going to need a state management tools. So, I think it’s a good idea to spent some time considering the options. First of all, i do have a preference on flutter’s state management. Itu could affect my final verdict. But, I want to make a data based decision on it. So, let’s start..

Current State of the Art

Flutter official website has a listing of all current available state management options. As on 1 Aug 2021, the following list are those that listed on the website.

I marked GetIt since it’s actually not a state management by it’s own. It’s a dependency injection library, but the community behind it develop a set of tools to make it a state management (get_it_mixin (45,130,81%) and get_it_hooks (6,100,33%)). There’s also two additional lib that not mentioned on the official page (Stacked and flutter_hooks). Those two are relatively new compared to others (since pretty much everything about flutter is new) but has high popularity.

What is Pub Point

Pub point is a curation point given by flutter package manager (pub.dev). Basically this point indicate how far a given library adhere to dart/flutter best practices.

Selection Criteria

I concluded several criteria that need to be fulfilled by a good state management library.

There's should be a lot of people using it.

Mature

Has rich ecosystem, which mean, resources about the library should be easily available. Resources are, but not limited to, documentation, best practices and common issue/problem solutions.

Rigid

Allow for engineers to write consistent code, so an engineer can come and easily maintain other's codebase.

Easy to Use

Easy in inter-component communication. In a complex app, a component tend to need to talk to other component. So it's very useful if the state manager give an easy way to do it.

Easy to test. A component that implement the state management need to have a good separation of concern.

Easy to learn. Has leaner learning curve.

Well Maintained:

High test coverage rate and actively developed.

First Filter: Popularity

This first filter can give us a quick glance over the easiness of usage and the availability of resources. Since both are our criteria in choosing, the first filter is a no brainer to use. Furthermore when it’s not popular, there’s a high chance that new engineers need more time to learn it.

Luckily, we have a definitive data to rank our list. Pub.dev give us popularity score and number of likes. So, let’s drop those that has less than 90% popularity and has less than 100 likes.

As you can see, we drop 6 package from the list. We also drop setState and InheritedWidget from the list, since it’s the default implementation of state management in flutter. It’s very simple but easily increase complexity in building a bigger app. Most of the other packages try to fix the problem and build on top of it.

Now we have 9 left to go.

Second Filter: Maturity

The second filter is a bit hard to implement. After all, parameter to define “maturity” is kinda vague. But let’s make our own threshold of matureness to use as filter.

Pub point should be higher than 100

Version number should be on major version at least “1.0.0”

Github’s Closed Issue should be more than 100

Stackoverflow questions should be more than 100

Total resource (Github + Stackoverflow) should be more than 500

The current list doesn’t have 2 parameter defined above, so we need to find it out.

So let’s see which state management fulfill our threshold.

As you can see, “flutter_redux” is dropped. It’s not satisfied the criteria of “major version”. Not on major version can be inferred as, the creator of the package marked it is as not stable. There could be potentially breaking API changes in near future or an implementation change. When it happens we got no option but to refactor our code base, which lead to unnecessary work load.

But, it’s actually seems unfair. Since flutter_redux is only a set of tool on top redux . The base package is actually satisfy our threshold so far. It’s on v5.0.0, has pub point ≥ 100, has likes ≥ 100 and has popularity ≥ 90%.

So, if we use the base package it should be safe. But, let’s go a little deeper. The base package is a Dart package, so it means this lib can be used outside flutter (which is a plus). Redux package also claims it’s a rich ecosystem, in which it has several child packages:

As i inspect each of those packages, i found none of them are stables. In fact, none of them are even popular. Which i can assume it’s pretty hard to find “best practices” around it. Redux might be super popular on Javascript community. We could easily find help about redux for web development issue, but i don’t think it stays true for flutter’s issue (you can see the total resource count, it barely pass 500, it’s 517).

Redux package promises big things, but as a saying goes “a chain is as strong as its weakest link”. It’s hard for me to let this package claim “maturity”.

Fun fact: On JS community, specifically React community, redux is also losing popularity due to easier or simpler API from React.Context or Mobx.

But, Just in case, let’s keep Redux in mind, let’s say it’s a seed selection. Since we might go away with only using the base package. Also, it’s might be significantly excel on another filter. So, currently we have 4+1 options left.

Third Filter: Rigid

Our code should be very consistent across all code base. Again, this is very vague. What is the parameters to say a code is consistent, and how consistent we want it to be. Honestly, i can’t find a measurable metric for it. The consistency of a code is all based on a person valuation. In my opinion every and each public available solutions should be custom tailored to our needs. So to make a codebase consistent we should define our own conventions and stick on it during code reviews.

So, sadly on this filter none of the options are dropped. It stays 4+1 options.

Fourth Filter: Easy to Use

We had already define, when is a state management can be called as easy to use in the previous section. Those criteria are:

Each components can talk to each other easily.

Each components should be easy to test. It can be achieved when it separates business logic from views. Also separate big business logic to smaller ones.

We spent little time in learning it.

Since the fourth filter is span across multiple complex criteria, I think to objectively measure it, we need to use a ranking system. A winner on a criteria will get 2 point, second place will get 1, and the rest get 0 point. So, Let’s start visiting those criteria one by one.

Inter Component Communication

Let’s say we have component tree like the following diagram,

In basic composition pattern, when component A needs something from component D it needs to follow a chain of command through E→G→F→D

This approach is easily get very complex when we scale up the system, like a tree with 10 layers deep. So, to solve this problem, state management’s tools introduce a separate class that hold an object which exposed to all components.

Basically, all state management listed above allows this to happen. The differences located on how big is the “root state” allowed and how to reduce unnecessary “render”.

Provider and BLoC is very similar, their pattern best practices only allow state to be stored as high as they needed. In example, on previous graph, states that used by A and B is stored in E but states that used by A and D is stored in root (G). This ensure the render only happen on those component that needed it. But, the problem arise when D suddenly need state that stored in E. We will need a refactor to move it to G.

Redux and Mobx is very similar, it allows all state to be stored in a single state Store that located at root. Each state in store is implemented as an observable and only listened by component that needs it. By doing it that way, it can reduce the unnecessary render occurred. But, this approach easily bloated the root state since it stores everything. You can implement a sub store, like a store located in E to be used by A and B, but then they will lose their advantages over Provider and BLoC. So, sub store is basically discouraged, you can see both redux and mobx has no implementation for MultiStore component like MultiProvider in provider and MultiBlocProvider in BLoC.

A bloated root state is bad due to, not only the file become very big very fast but also the store hogs a lot of memory even when the state is not actively used. Also, as far as i read, i can’t find any solution to remove states that being unused in either Redux and Mobx. It’s something that won’t happen in Provider, since when a branch is disposes it will remove all state included. So, basically choosing either Provider or Redux is down to personal preferences. Wether you prefer simplicity in Redux or a bit more complex but has better memory allocation in Provider.

Meanwhile, Getx has different implementation altogether. It tries to combine provider style and redux style. It has a singleton object to store all active states, but that singleton is managed by a dependency injector. That dependency injector will create and store a state when it’s needed and remove it when it’s not needed anymore. Theres a writer comment in flutter_redux readme, it says

Singletons can be problematic for testing, and Flutter doesn’t have a great Dependency Injection library (such as Dagger2) just yet, so I’d prefer to avoid those. … Therefore, redux & redux_flutter was born for more complex stories like this one.

I can infer, if there is a great dependency injection, the creator of flutter redux won’t create it. So, for the first criteria in easiness of usage, i think, won by Getx (+2 point).

There is a state management that also build on top dependency injection GetIt. But, it got removed in the first round due to very low popularity. Personally, i think it got potential.

Business logic separation

Just like in the previous criteria, all state management also has their own level of separation. They differ in their way in defining unidirectional data flow. You can try to map each of them based on similarity to a more common design pattern like MVVM or MVI.

Provider, Mobx and Getx are similar to MVVM. BLoC and Redux are similar to MVI.

In this criteria, i think there’s no winner since it boils down to preference again.

Easy to learn

Finally, the easiest criteria in easiness of usage, easy to learn. I think there’s only one parameter for it. To be easy to learn, it have to introduced least new things. Both, MVVM and MVI is already pretty common but the latter is a bit new. MVI’s style packages like redux and bloc, introduce new concepts like an action and reducer. Even though Mobx also has actions but it already simplified by using code generator so it looks like any other view model.

So, for this criteria, i think the winner are those with MVVM’s style (+2 Point), Provider, Mobx and Getx. Actually, google themself also promote Provider (Google I/O 2019) over BLoC (Google I/O 2018) because of the simplicity, you can watch the show here.

The fourth filter result

We have inspect all criteria in the fourth filter. The result are as the following:

Getx won twice (4 point),

Provider and Mobx won once (2 point) and

BLoC and Redux never won (0 point).

I guess it’s very clear that we will drop BLoC and Redux. But, i think we need to add one more important criteria.

Which has bigger ecosystem

Big ecosystem means that a given package has many default tools baked or integrated in. A big ecosystem can help us to reduce the time needed to mix and match tools. We don’t need to reinvent the wheel and focused on delivering products. So, let’s see which one of them has the biggest ecosystem. The answer is Getx, but also unsurprisingly Redux. Getx shipped with Dependency Injection, Automated Logging, Http Client, Route Management, and more. The same thing with Redux, as mentioned before, Redux has multiple sub packages, even though none of it is popular. The second place goes to provider and BLoC since it gives us more option in implementation compared to one on the last place. Finally, on the last place Mobx, it offers only state management and gives no additional tools.

So, these are the final verdict

Suddenly, Redux has comeback to the race.

Fifth Filter: Well maintained

No matter how good a package currently is, we can’t use something that got no further maintenance. We need a well maintained package. So, as always let’s define the criteria of well maintained.

Code Coverage

Last time a commit merged to master

Open Pull Request count

Just like previous filter, we will implement ranking system. A winner on a criteria will get 2 point, second place will get 1, and the rest get 0 point.

So, with above data, here are the verdicts

Getx 4 point (2+2+0)

BLoC 4 point (1+1+2)

MobX 0 point (0+0+0)

Provider 1 point (0+0+1)

Redux 0 point (0+0+0)

Lets add with the previous filter point,

Getx 10 point (4+6)

BLoC 5 point (4+1)

MobX 2 point (0+2)

Provider 4 point (1+3)

Redux 2 point (0+2)

By now we can see that the winner state management, that allowed to claim the best possible right now, is Getx. But, it’s a bit concerning when I look at the code coverage, it’s the lowest by far from the others. It makes me wonder, what happen to Getx. So i tried to see the result more closely.

After seeing the image above, i can see that the problem is the get_connect module has 0 coverage also several other modules has low coverage. But, let’s pick the coverage of the core modules like, get_core (100%), get_instance(77%), get_state_manager(51%,33%). The coverage get over 50%, not too bad.

Basically, this result means we need to cancel a winner status from Getx. It’s the win on big ecosystem criteria. So, lets subtract 2 point from the end result (10-2). It got 8 points left, it still won the race. We can safely say it has more pros than cons.

Conclusions

The final result, current best state management is Getx 🎉🎉🎉. Sure, it is not perfect and could be beaten by other state management in the future, but currently it’s the best.

So, my decision is "I should use GetX"

shipping quadrants REDUX

Hello! All of us here in the Sly Cooper fandom have at least one odd thing we insist on. Mine is that Sly and Carmelita form a perfect four-way diamond with Nick and Judy of Zootopia in terms of romantic compatibility. As insistent quirks go, I’m happy with it

You might remember that way back (over two years ago!), in my first post fully outlining this concept, I made a visual to accompany it:

Well, with access to a more intuitive imaging system and a better render for Sly rip I have updated this visual, and in so doing, included a new and important axis of information:

Carmelita’s always on top.

I’m aware there are various ways of... phrasing... the power dynamics of a romantic relationship, but to keep things at least vaguely PG, I’m gonna go with the terms Big Spoon and Little Spoon. A healthy and balanced relationship will see a free and fair exchange of cuddles. But often - particularly in the specific context of shipping fictional characters - cuddles may primarily travel in one direction. There will be a cuddler and a cuddle-ee.

The reason I have made this updated graphic, in the considerably more awkward shape of a diamond, is because I think there is a clear cuddle hierarchy of Carmelita --> Sly and Judy --> Nick.

Sly and Judy are both flexible. They’re strong, talented, determined people with some stuff going on, psychologically. Both are perfectly capable of being a relationship’s Big Spoon, probably for long periods. But a harsh day at work, or the anniversary of a tragic event, would see them needing support. Nick, for his part, is also plenty strong... in ways he doesn’t seem to especially realize or appreciate. At the risk of undervaluing the breadth of his character, I’d say he’s most likely to settle into a more longstanding position as Little Spoon.

I... legit struggle to picture Carmelita needing a hug.

Again - we all have bad days! No matter how strong you are, relying on loved ones for emotional support is fundamental to being healthy. But Carmelita Fox is just... how to put this? A hell of a woman. She’s a high-ranking cop capable of single-handedly beating down literal monsters. The only thing that really emotionally challenges her is the question of whether her idea of justice is the best approach, and that’s just not on par with the issues the other three face.

To put it another way - I never like to see creators write Judy as a timid little housewife her big strong boyfriend needs to protect, and that goes quadruply for Carmelita. That’s just not her.

Big Spoon for life.

Organs of the Circus

Calliope is a very old name that would later belong to an instrument that wouldn’t exist for centuries after its creation. It was a beautifully crafted tool often used in entertainment mainly the Traveling Circus although originally meant to replace church bells.

It’s very light and up beat sounding and is usually played on those speakers at either Disneyland, or the fair, or other huge theme parks. It was invented in the U.S in 1850 by A.S. Denny and later patented in 1855 by Joshua C. Stoddard. An article on Mechanical Music Digest quotes the Player Piano Treasury has a description of the instrument by Harvey Roehl.

“…The first instrument consisted of 15 whistles, of graduated sizes, attached in a row to the top of a small steam boiler. A long cylinder with pins of different shapes driven into it ran the length of the boiler. The pins were so arranged that when the cylinder revolved, they pressed the valves and blew the whistles in proper sequence. The different shapes enabled the operator to play notes of varying length. Later, Stoddard replaced the cylinder with a keyboard. Wires running from the keys to the valves enabled the operator to play the instrument like a piano.”

It was a large cylinder “clockwork music box” with large and usually bronze whistles coming from the top and upper panel into the lower panel where the boiler is. The first design used pins to push steam through the pipes to play different notes and keys; they were later replaced with a piano keyboard and wires instead with the frame becoming a more modern looking upright piano instead of a cylinder for playability. Some people called it the Steam Organ as some were often mounted to steam boats and looked like smaller organs that operated on steam.

Some might confuse Calliopes with Fairground Organs (Sometimes called Band Organs) which are entirely separate. The main difference being that Fairground Organs never used steam and were always more mechanical and automatic. Those used in dance halls and ballrooms were dubbed “Dance Organs” which were quitter que to being played inside.

The Fairground Organ used either a crank similar to a music box or strips of data called music rolls in a music book. They were designed to be played without an actual performer and are keyboard less. For the most part electronic nowadays or completely replaced with standard speaker sound systems were a grand addition to the Fairgrounds themselves with their own Fair Organ Preservation Society.

They were essentially large elegantly designed jukeboxes that sometimes came with animatronic puppet bands and other instruments like wooden whistles and xylophones for further entertainment making them rather large, the world’s largest being the Wurlitzer Model 164 Band Organ according to organ historian Stephen Bicknell.

One of the most popular and decorative being The Moriter aka The Emperor which was almost as big as a pipe organ.

There are a few odd exceptions of the Fairground Organ’s punch card reading ability mixed with the keys and design of the Calliope. Although they are rare, some Calliopes used rolls too such as the CA-43 Tangley Calliaphone Calliope one of the last calliopes to be manufactured in the modern age that is even equipped with SD midi compatibility.

Named after the ancient Greek goddess of music and poetry, it was often held on a pedestal just as high as a tribute to her. The Chief of Muses, Calliope, (also spelled Kalliope) goddesses of music, song, and dance whose name means “beautiful voice”.

She is the daughter of Zeus and the Titan goddess Mnemosyne being the oldest of the younger muses as well as the wisest and most assertive sister making her the leader. She is often referred to as The Muse of Epic Poetry, normally depicted with a tablet or scroll in hand.

Calliope was also the goddess of eloquence and would appear before mortal kings as they were infants to glaze their lips in honey. This was so that whenever they spoke, their voice and words would be almost as beautiful as hers.

Greek myths tell stories of her marriage Thracian king Oeagrus and their wedding in Pimpleia given them their children; Orpheus and Linus. Orpheus was and heroic bard in most Greek mythology, and his brother Linus the creator of rhythm and melody.

Of course no beauty comes without flaws. You see, the ancient Greeks would spell Calliope’s name two ways; C-A-L-L-I-O-P-E and K-A-L-I-O-P-E (sometimes spelled with two l’s) this created a split in musical communities about how it should be spelled and pronounced.

Or even the Calliaphone as suggested by Norman Baker, one of the world’s last Calliope builders.

“Reedy's Mirror” a magazine or paper company that’s name was later changed to “The Mirror” in its revival in the 1920s tried to settle the pronunciation debate with a section from poem that spelled it in a very rare fashion and pronounced them both ways.

It was called “The Kallyope Yell” (Spelled K-A-L-L-Y-O-P-E) and is a poem written by Vachel Lindsay in November of 1913. Vachel was a very famous poet for his time with his first book ‘Where Is Aladdin’s Lamp’ in 1904. Despite his parents hostility towards his work he still made many a classic poem.

I am the Kallyope,

Car called the Kallyope.

Willy willy willy wah hoo!

Although it was an almost magically constructed machine it was often difficult to maintain. The older generation of Calliopes, widely known as steam organs, were very difficult to maintain due to the issues with moisture and travel. A Calliope player would have to clean and polish each part before and after a performance, god forbid it rains.

Eventually a newer generation of Calliopes were made to accommodate the nomad lifestyle of the instrument. First, the new age were called Air Calliopes as the name suggests these Calliopes used compressed air as opposed to steam. These were more portable as well as easier to maintain and durable however, no new technology is flawless.

While yes, the Air Calliope was far easier to set up, move, and fix; they were far quieter. Older generation Calliopes and Fairground Organs could be heard miles away all around the midway, from the boardwalk to the forest. These newer ones were not only quieter but also mostly run on either helium or gas both of which were more costly than the old boiler was; both were very costly at the time and even more so now. The few Fairground Organs and Calliopes that survived years of war, transport, tear, and wear are both expensive and delicate.

What used to be a staple of entertainment and fun is as ghostly as the wail the organ pipes themselves, fading into the memories and sounds of the great Carnival its self.

#10yrsago Mind Over Ship: David Marusek's hyperfuturistic, hyperimaginative soap-opera

David Marusek's Mind Over Ship is the long-awaited sequel to his groundbreaking 2005 debut novel Counting Heads, and it was worth the wait.

Mind Over Ship returns to the awesomely weird and exciting Marusek future, where humanity trembles on the verge of transcendence, splintering into people, clones, avatars, AIs, temporary and permanent models (some made without the model-ee's consent) and a thousand other fragments. Each of these factions battles for the best deal it can get -- even as the individual members of each clade fight for their own personal best interests.

Mind Over Ship is so complex, with so many storylines and so many incredibly inventive premises, that it trembles on the verge of breakdown, acrobatically walking on a tightrope over the pit of too-weird. It's a book that demands and rewards attention, as it explores a hundred important philosophical questions about free will, destiny, bioethics, intelligence, and duty.

For example, there's the story of the betrayal of the cold-sleep deep-space ships, which are meant to be launching by the dozens to distant, unexplored stars (but which have been co-opted for use as space-condos in a hostile corporate takeover). This leaves their erstwhile owners -- semi-sovereign collectives of Jesus freaks, defective spare-organ clones of VIPs, fatalistic Ukrainian Chernorbyl survivors, and other disaffected groups yearning to breath the air of distant worlds -- out in the cold.

Then there's the biowar flu, "the 24-hour nonspecific grief flu," which causes its victims to feel, well, nonspecific grief for 24 hours, before their immune systems fight the bugs off. Or do they?

NASTIEs are nanoweapons, the scale of a dandelion seed, which take root and begin coopting nearby matter, sending out tree-like roots to seek out the raw materials to assemble themselves into "deadly weapons of mass destruction." The army that launched the NASTIEs disbanded sixty years ago, but the seeds still flutter on the wind, periodically dissolving whole housing complexes as cloned first-responders seek to disassemble them before they can realize their destiny.

Clones are in trouble -- different kinds of clones, provided by different workforce vendors, are all going through massive, wrenching existential trauma. Do they have "clone fatigue" that causes them to run against type? And of course, every clone wonders if his creators imbued him with "musts" (secret, tailored cocktails of trace minerals whose absence will kill a clone in short order) and "candy" (like "musts," except that these cocktails evince extreme ecstatic responses, acting as a powerful Skinnerian conditioning agent).

There's even weirder life in Mind Over Ship: a beheaded tycoon whose head is grafted onto a cloned baby's body; her mother, secretly alive, encoded in the modified brains of "panasonic" fish around the world. And then there's the lively media: nits and the nitwork, micro-, mezzo- and nano-scale spybots that form a ubiquitous surveillance grid around the planet, a grid that can only be avoided by taking powerful purgatives that destroy the artificial fauna populating your outer and inner self before passing through an airlock.

Marusek's hyperfuturistic, hyperimaginative soap-opera is a tour-de-force of imagination, philosophy, dark humor and humanity. Let's hope he writes the next one quickly!

Hete we go! Okay, let's see....Steampunk and possessive! And so writing is a bit easyer, here a bit of personality! A creation that went wrong, MJ went insane being locked away because his creator felt embarrassed for making a failed creation. Then, MJ met the creator's daughter, Hat, and well...He does something very similar to moonbot from agit! - Silver ( have fun and pls give me one too!)

(I’m so sorry, I got carried away-) Anyways, on with the snippet!

A failed experiment. A. Failed. Experiment.

The words echoed through Moonjumper’s mind as he stayed there, locked up in the inventor’s basement. But he didn’t understand why. Why had he been locked away? Wasn’t he created to help humankind? To fix them and make their lives better?

Apparently not. Because after his inventor saw Moonjumper’s true nature, he decided it was too dangerous to keep a failed experiment around his workshop. Yet the inventor didn’t just tear him apart right then and there to use him for spare parts. No, no, no. He did something much worse.

The inventor locked Moonjumper away in the cellar, claiming that an “emotionless thing” wouldn’t mind the darkness and the quiet down below. But for a being made of only copper and steam engines, Moonjumper was surprising full of emotion. And the rush of emotions that he was feeling right now?

Sadness. Hurt. Loneliness.

Anger. Hate. Betrayal.

A sudden noise broken his train of thought though, as Moonjumper could hear the screeching of a metal door from up the staircase. He quickly turned his head towards the noise, his eyes emitting a bright golden light in the dark.

He saw a shadow coming slowly down the stairs. He felt the negative emotions rising up, his eyes turning from golden-yellow to a hateful red.

“W-w-who’s the…re?” Moonjumper hissed, his glitched and broken voice echoing off the walls. His voicebox wasn’t exactly “new”, nor could he use too many words at a time. Which made him sound very menacing, even without meaning to. He heard a small whimper after he spoke, and this seemed to amuse him.

“C-c-creator…sc…ared?” Moonjumper chuckled, his laughter sounding mad and unsettling. But as he saw a clearer view of the shadow…he realized it was much smaller. And shorter. The shadow came closer and closer, taking tiny steps to reach the bottom. And eventually the shadowy figure peaked out from behind the staircase, bathed in the light of Moonjumper’s eyes.

To his surprise, it was a small child.

Moonjumper blinked, his red light turning back to yellow. A child, wearing patch clothing, with a dusty old top hat to match, was standing right in front of him. He wasn’t sure if what he was seeing was a glitch in his visionary sensors, or real life. He ran a scan through his system, only to find that everything was working properly like it should be. Well…almost everything.

“N-n-not…crea…ter?” Moonjumper cocked his head at the small child in curiosity. The child stared back at him, before coming closer.

“Did daddy do this to you?” the child asked rather innocently, staring at the chained cuffs keeping Moonjumper to the wall. He blinked again, giving another scan before speaking again.

“C-c-child?…H-h-his…child?” Moonjumper asked her. And the child seemed surprised.

The child then turned her back to him, going over to a corner in the room. Moonjumper never let her leave his sight, literally. With his eyes shining through the darkness, it was almost like he was helping her find what she needed to. He watched her, with utter fascination, as the child would find a box or crate and bring it back to form a tower in front of him.

After doing this about three or four times, she stopped, and climbed up onto the crate tower. Now they were both face-to-face, with Moonjumper noticing the child trying to shield her vision from his glowing eyes.

She rummaged around in her pockets, bringing out an old key covered in rust. Moonjumper’s eyes seemed to glow a bit brighter in surprise, for he knew what that key was. He had seen his creator holding them, before he was locked away.

It was the key to his freedom.

“F-f-free…me?!” Moonjumper exclaimed, before the child promptly shushed him.

“Shhhhhh! Be quiet! Daddy will be mad if he knows I stole this!” she told him, bringing the key up to unlock the cuffs around his wrists. And Moonjumper stayed completely still, as she slowly unlocked both of them. With a thud, his old copper wheel hit the ground. He tested his balance and flexed his metal fingers, before looking back at the child.

“W-w-why fr…ee me?” Moonjumper asked her, genuinely confused as to why a child would do such a thing. But the child just gave him a patient smile in return.

“Because I wanted to be nice! And to be friends with you!” she said to him cheerfully. He merely stared at her, unblinking.

“F-f-friends?…” Moonjumper let the word drawl out of his mouth, like an unspoken phrase.

“Yeah! I’m Hattie!” the child leaned closer to him on the tower of crates, offering her hand. “Nice to meet-”

Suddenly, the tower began to rock and wobble. And before Hattie could cry out in surprised, the whole thing toppled over. The boxes and crates hit the floor, with her following after. Moonjumper flinched, as the poor child landed on the ground with a thud.

“Owie…” she groaned in pain, before trying to get up. She then sucked in air through her teeth, quickly holding her knee. She slowly removed her hand to reveal a couple scratches, from where the concrete floor scraped against her knee during impact.

Something inside of Moonjumper clicked, as his visual scanners went crazy. Every part of him inspected the cuts, diagnosing a treatment. But it was no professional or medical treatment. Instead, his programming was telling him to replace the knee with something more…sturdy.

Or better yet…why not replace the whole thing? Her body was so terribly fragile, being human and all. And a robotic body would be much more efficient! Not to mention, the image of a robo-child would be absolutely adorable and-

“H-hey, are you okay? New friend?” Hattie spoke up, unnerved that Moonjumper was just staring at her and not saying anything. Moonjumper finally blinked at her. His glowing eye color slowly turned from yellow, to blood-red.

Moonjumper smiled, reveling rusted and sharp teeth.

“Y-y-you…ne..ed fix…ing…” Moonjumper cooed, his voice smoother yet creepy. He rolled closer on his wheel until he was right above Hattie, who laying on the floor defenseless. He crouched over her, before grabbing her arm and violently lifting her up in the air. Hattie nearly screamed out, before he put his free hand over her mouth.

“D-d-don’t be…sca…red…” Moonjumper brought her closer to his gaze, beginning to hum an eerie lullaby and “purr” to comfort her. “I-I-I wi…ll fix…you…” he hugged her closer to him, his body freezing to the touch. Hattie whimpered, shivering in his deadly hold. “H-H-Hattie…stay wi…th me…”

“F-f-forever~”
