HGUC 1/144 Anaheim Electronics Prototype 5th Gen Minovsky Flight System Mobile Suit RX-105 "Ξ Gundam" ("Xi Gundam")
Xi is here!!! I was lucky enough to get this as a birthday present last week and had to get going on it immediately.
The Xi is a really hefty kit, with a gigantic box and over 17 runners (many of which are duplicates for right and left sides). It's incredibly detailed, with great colour separation, however there are some major omissions.
Several orange colour correcting stickers are included, as well as some red and grey ones for the back skirt. I also had to color in some of the vents with my grey gundam marker. Usually I'd paint colour inaccuracies, however I didn't have the right shade of orange, so I let it slide. There's also a large white sticker for the shield's hidden particle canon which feels pretty egregious. There are also the usual eye and sensor stickers, and I did paint the inside of the thrusters red.
Xi comes with plenty of extra parts, including two beam saber effects for each saber, a large beam rifle, two open fist options, two open hand options, and a trigger finger options, as well as a shield and a connector for an Action Base 1. There's also a convertor part to transform the stabilizer wings into flight mode.
Flight mode is achieved mostly just by rotating and sliding parts of the shoulder armour, creating two large triangular wings. The feet rotate downwards, although you do need to parts-form some of the ankle stabilizers.

The wings are removed, and reattached with a separate part to create the final form.
The kit looks just as cool in regular mode, with the fight armour rotated down. The large beam sabers and shoulder armour really accentuate Xi's unique silhouette, as does the cockpit section, resembling Xi's face.

Inside the knees and elbows, as well as the back skirt, you can see moulded-in funnel missiles. There's a separate set which allows them to be displayed in a fired mode, but it unfortunately wasn't available.
The kit is pretty flexible, although it's difficult to rotate the arms due to the shoulder armour. All the joints feel pretty secure as there are no polycap parts so the kit's weight never gets in the way.

The beam sabers are both double-sided, with a smaller blade that can extend from the bottom. They're moulded in Bandai's usual fluorescent green and look really nice. I think the larger one is reused from the Kshatriya, another equally large kit.

Overall I had tons of fun building this, and it was really cool seeing how big it was, almost reaching the size of a MG. It's got a super unique looking design, breaking a lot of the tropes of previous gundam designs that make it pretty refreshing to build. Despite the size everything goes together really quickly.
