Part 2 of Desk of Ladyada! Last week, we tackled a battery issue with our old PLEO dinosaur robot by sourcing high-capacity NiMH packs from DigiKey. And, we'll look at the need for a specific 12V US AC/DC adapter with an 800mA output and a 3.5mm OD plug to replace the UK plug, ensuring the robot could be charged again!

@digikeycorp-blog could you set up stock with IKEA for their BLÅHAJ product series? it consists of two package options for the same IP, the Dual Inline Teeth DIT-25 and VFDIT-25 form factors. Manufacturer P/Ns are 903.735.90 and 705.406.65 respectively. I can't attest to their RoHS compliance, though I did find the manufacturer's guidance on restricted substances. It might go under Makers/DIY, Educational > Wearables, Tools > Specialized Tools, or Uncategorized > Unclassified.

Heck yeah! Got my super dirty diy audio oscilloscope probe circuit working on the first try!

The Pi is just producing a 1kHz test signal with PWM stepping back and forth between 0-100% duty cycle.

The scope is xoscope which is GNU software I'm running on my Ubuntu machine.

The circuit itself is very simple:

Also really noisy... I can probably do a lot better with an instrumentation amplifier, but I also feel like I need something a little more robust than the scavenged headphone cable I'm using to connect to the microphone port. Also could probably get better sample rates with a microcontroller, but there's a bunch of development I gotta do before that.

This is good enough to get started on some stuff though, and it's good to finally get my hands dirty.
