Elevator Pitch for Platformer
In order to truly understand how to design a game that is captivating and fun to play for various players, I'll be developing a number of small game prototypes throughout the semester to develop and demonstrate my skills as a game designer (despite being a programmer primarily)
The first prototype I'll be creating is for a simple platformer style game. It's a genre that is fairly saturated, so it can be difficult to come up with a game idea that is unique and fun, rather than just being unique for uniqueness's sake. I want to focus on a player experience that is frustrating, channeling the essence of rage games, while also making the player feel accomplished as they overcome challenges in the world they were unable to before.
The game idea I came up with based around these player experiences is Can't Stop Won't Stop, a vertical platformer where the player is trying to ascend to heaven, but stopping gets them dragged back towards hell by a devil. Essentially, they get pulled through the platform they’re currently on if they stop moving for more than a short amount of time, causing them to plunge back down and lose the progress they were making.
The player is only able to interact with the game through movement, there is no way to fight enemies or otherwise interact with other game components. The challenge in the game will come from enemies moving around the platforms that, should the player collide with them, force the player to stop moving for a period of time, quickly dropping them through one or more platforms. There will also be challenge areas the player has to pass through, such as doors that are only unlocked by standing on a specific platform for a set amount of time, with jumping or moving off the platform causing the timer to start counting back up.
The game is set in a modern world, with three distinct areas. Earth, the starting area, which appears like normal with a ground layer, and underground the player can be pulled into and a sky area they're attempting to ascend through. Then, there's the heavenly area above earth, which contains the win zone for the player. Finally, should the player fall beneath the underground area, they'll enter hell, where they can eventually lose by falling into a pit of lava at the bottom.
The target audience for the game is casual gamers, people who enjoy challenging platformers such as Getting Over It, variety streamers, and masochists. The demographics it's targeted at are primarily people aged 12-31, as they can keep up with the fast pace of the game easily and are likely looking for shorter experiences to kill some time when required.

Racer Game Elevator Pitch – "Scrap Racers"
{Week 7}
Title: Scrap Racers Genre: Post-Apocalyptic Arcade Racer
Description: Scrap Racers throws players into a fast-paced race through a crumbling scrapyard highway. While dodging hazards and gunning for first place, you’ll collect scrap scattered along the road. Each piece of scrap adds to your score and between bursts of chaos, you can spend it to upgrade your car mid-race.
Do you invest in more speed to push past opponents, or stack defense to survive the next collapsing crane? The more you collect, the stronger you become; but every second counts.
Core Features:
Collectible Scrap System: Pick up scrap on the track to earn upgrade points
Mid-Race Upgrades: Spend scrap to boost speed or activate defense
Track Hazards: Dodge wrecking balls, oil slicks, and collapsing ramps
Controls:
Arrow keys or WASD to steer
Q to upgrade speed
E to activate defense upgrade (if scrap available)
Target Audience: Players aged 10+ who enjoy fast reflexes, meaningful mid-race decisions, and chaotic tracks
Inspiration: Combines the modular upgrades of Mario Kart with the post-apocalyptic grit of Mad Max; boiled down into a tight, accessible GDevelop experience.
Let me know what you think! [email protected].

Racer Elevator Pitch
Gameplay
For my third and final tutorial game, I will be creating Bad Tires. In Bad Tires, the player must navigate through multiple lanes of traffic, avoiding cars in the ongoing and incoming traffic lanes. For each car the player successfully avoids, they will receive a single point. However, as the title may suggest, driving the player’s car isn’t as simple as one may assume. Rather than simply moving left and right, the car can only be driven by either turning the back tires or front tires while braking the opposite set of tires. As a result, movement is done by rotating the car around the front or back as the axis. This creates a dynamic and unique movement system with, what I imagine, will be a tough learning curve. As a result, I plan to make the positioning of the cars more random, but less forgiving than the in-class demo version of the game. I will also create a lives system denoted by visual damage to the car.
Why It’s Compelling
This game, like the others, features an arcade-like gameplay loop, meaning the player's objective is to survive as long as possible, thereby earning the highest score possible. The unique movement system offers players a racing game that is dissimilar from anything they’ve played before, and ideally, the desire to conquer this unique system will be a good motivator to play. I also think that because driving is so unique, most players will be very bad at controlling it at first, making their progress much more rewarding. I think striking a balance between difficult and frustrating with the driving mechanic will be essential while building the prototype.
Setting
In Bad Tires, you play as Brad Tylers, a businessman late for an important meeting. You drive your poorly-maintained car as fast as possible down the highway of an Australian city and through ongoing traffic to make it to your meeting. Too bad it’s so far away.
Target Audience
Anyone looking for a challenge in a game.
Elevator Pitch For Bad Tires
In Bad Tires, you play as Brad Tylers, a businessman running late for an important meeting. While Brad does have a good understanding of driving safely, he unfortunately must drive exceedingly over the speed limit into oncoming traffic in his… less than ideal vehicle. He’s late for work–what is he supposed to do? Players must control Brad, steering his vehicle, making wide turns, and spinning through traffic, in an attempt to avoid colliding with the other cars on the road. The longer you can keep Brad alive, the higher your score. He never seems to actually make it to work, though.

Racing game elevator pitch
The final prototype I will be making in IGB120 is a racing game in GDevelop once again. To make an elevator pitch, I will need to consider what I want my game to be.
What is my gameplay?
Dodging cars in-between 4 lanes and racking up score.
Who will play my game?
The target audience will the ages of 10 - 18
How will the Player be motivated during the game?
The player will be motivated by attempting to reach 100,000 score to move onto the next level before reaching level 10 and winning
What is the genre of the game?
Top down racing game
Where is my game set?
This game is set in a space highway where you are on the wrong side of the road dodging cars as you try to escape from the police that are chasing after you.
From these answered questions the elevator pitch is,
'Space Racers' is a top down racing game where the player is driving and must dodge cars while trying to escape from the police that are in hot pursuit. The cars have different lengths being either short, standard or large. In Space Racers, the player will attempt to cross 10 toll highway booths to escape to there home planet to evade the police.
This game is PG and suitable for ages 10-18, due to it containing themes of crime and escaping custody.
In my next post I will update you on the development process of 'Space Racers' and the playtesting, challenges and success during that development process.
