Fachada, de Elisabeth Sanxay Holding, é um título muito à frente de seu tempo e foi escolhido como o melhor livro da autora por Raymond Chandler, que a considerava a escritora de policiais com a obra mais consistente de todas. Sua publicação no Brasil representa o resgate de uma autora brilhante do noir e de uma obra que ainda diz muito sobre a hipocrisia de nossos costumes.

Publicado originalmente em 1947, esse thriller feminista foi adaptado duas vezes ao cinema: como Na teia do destino (Max Ophüls, 1949) e, em 2011, como Até o fim, com Tilda Swinton no papel de Lucia.

Elisabeth Sanxay Holding (1889-1955) nasceu e cresceu em Nova Iorque. Após casar-se com um diplomata britânico, viveu em diversos países. Até a Crise de 1929, escreveu principalmente narrativas românticas, antes de migrar para o gênero policial. Destacam-se os romances Net of Cobwebs e The Innocent Mrs. Duff. Suas narrativas figuram na prestigiosa Library of America, dedicada a reunir o melhor da literatura norte-americana.
