Brief Thoughts on Some Ships:
USUK: They're best friends who are obsessed with each other and always looking for excuses to hang out. They tend to info dump all over the other. They're stubborn, kind of petty, very protective, and have a hard time admitting how much they desire the other's company, praise, and attention, but they're working on it because they care deeply about the other. They're in love, your honour.
PrUK: One of the best slept on England ships. Two wild guys that go out to loud punk rock concerts and have drinks together, then quietly recharge at home (e.g. writing in their journals, reading fairy tales, and sewing). Fun personality combination? Check. History together? Check. Canon interactions? Check. Though they really could still use MORE canon moments, given how much potential they have. Pirate x priest with these two is always excellent.
EngBela: The sexy Addams Family-esque couple who live in an elegant gothic mansion and pass time indulging in their hobbies, such as fortune telling, talking to ghosts, singing, and listening to rock music.
FrUK: Used to be an OTP, now I mainly like them as close platonic frenemies. Romantically, it's better in theory than in practice – that is to say, it has potential, but I'm not a fan of most depictions. Also, nyo FrUK is superior.
AmeBela: The dorky hero and goth girl. They confused and exhausted each other at first, but eventually developed an understanding and started getting along pretty well. He can fix her. She can make him worse. Alfred tries to encourage Natalya to form her own identity away from Ivan. Natalya encourages Alfred's suppressed yandere tendencies. She pegs him.
Romerica: They bond over sharing their cultures with each other. Alfred loves Lovino's food. Living in America provided all sorts of new ingredients for Lovino to experiment with in cooking, and he got to be good at something without Feli taking the attention away from him. Lovino is actually a fan of some of Alfred's home cooking as well. They both enjoy singing and dancing, and are fans of Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, and Bobby Darin.
EngGer: They're both responsible and serious...until Arthur's wild side comes out and he starts teasing and playing games with Ludwig's head. Ludwig is socially awkward and a strict rule-follower, which Arthur can relate to, but he's better at being social and having fun than Ludwig, so he can help him loosen up – although in the bedroom, Arthur is more than happy with letting Ludwig be a strict rule follower. Ludwig is very obedient. Arthur trained him nicely.
AmeLiet: They're really domestic and get along well most of the time. They're comfortable enough that they can confide pretty easily in each other. Alfred is pretty protective of Tolys, particularly when it comes to Ivan. He doesn't like the way Ivan treated him and is quick to jump to his defence whenever possible. Additionally, Alfred is 'in love with the way Tolys undresses'. That's not questionable at all.

Chapter 7
Ludwig arrived back at the alley at 7:30 as requested. He tapped his foot, waiting for Arthur to come out. At 7:40, he started to overthink. Did something go wrong? Was Arthur hurt? He believed Francis really did care about the actors, but what if someone was doing something behind Francis’s back? What if someone was giving Arthur trouble?
At 7:50, Ludwig entered the studio.
“Oh, Luddy!” Francis squealed, gliding out and wrapping an arm around Ludwig’s shoulder.“Your brother didn’t tell me to expect a visit. Looking for something new?”
“N-No…I-I’m just…I mean…I am meeting with–”
“Leave him alone,” a voice groaned.
Arthur entered from the opposite side of the room, face clean from makeup yet also a little red. He swooped in, wrapping an arm around Ludwig’s waist and pulling him against him.
Ludwig’s heart stuttered and his face flushed. He stumbled slightly, legs turning to jelly, but Arthur managed to keep him upright despite their size difference.
“Sorry Lud,” Arthur went on, “Took a little longer to get cleaned up.”
“Trying to impress you,” Francis teased. “I didn’t know you two knew each other?”
Ludwig went to speak but Arthur beat him to it.
“We have a class together. Kind of started a friendship through that.”
Francis nodded along. Eyes squinting slightly as he looked over to Ludwig.
“Did you know that he was in those videos?” Francis asked Ludwig, smirking slightly.
“N-Nein. Just a coincidence.”
Arthur rolled his eyes. “Okay, we’re leaving. I kept Ludwig waiting long enough.”
“You certainly have.”
“You’re such a perv.”
“Says my top porn star.”
“Sh-Shut up.”
“Hey stop,” Ludwig interrupted, standing between the two. “Arthur is right though. I was waiting. Now if you excuse us we…uh…we have a date to get to.”
Ludwig looked over to Arthur. Hopefully he hadn’t read wrong or overstepped using such a loaded word. Arthur seemed to be suppressing a smile with the way his eyes shone despite the drawn line of his lips.
Feeling bold, Ludwig grabbed Arthur’s hand and guided him towards the door.
“Good luck you two,” Francis chuckled.

“So you were worried about me,” Arthur mused from his bedroom as he got dressed.
Ludwig curled further into himself, sinking back against the couch. “Maybe a little…”
Arthur giggled, exiting from his bedroom dressed in joggers and a worn Beatles T-shirt. He fell onto the couch with a thump. “You’re too sweet.”
Ludwig flushed.
“And adorable,” Arthur added, shifting a bit closer, placing a hand on Ludwig's knee.
Ludwig’s breath hitched. “Arthur...?”
“We have half an hour until the food arrives. What do you want to do?”
Ludwig squirmed. The person he’d been longing for was at his fingertips. Touching him. Longing for him. Waiting for his next move. Ludwig swallowed hard. Everything suddenly felt very hot and constricting.
Arthur inched even closer, lips slightly parted.
Ludwig held his breath and surged forward, connecting their lips. Perhaps he came on a little too strong with Arthur letting out a strangled noise, flinching back.
“Sorry,” Ludwig sputtered.
Arthur grabbed Ludwig’s arm before he could jump away. “Hey, hey, it’s okay.”
“I’m not very…used to this.”
Arthur laughed awkwardly. “I’m also a little rusty.”
“I couldn’t tell. You’ve been very charming and attentive.”
“Really?”
Ludwig slowly reached for Arthur’s hand, lacing their fingers together. A perfect fit. “Yes.”
“You’re not so bad yourself,” Arthur grinned.
He squeezed Ludwig’s hand. He leaned in closer until he was a hair’s breadth away. Ludwig gently met his lips, letting his mind go blank, focusing solely on the kiss instead of his beating heart and sweaty palms.
Arthur licked along his bottom lip but before Ludwig could decide if he was ready to take it further, there was a knock at the door.
Arthur pulled away, a small frown on his face. “That must be the food,” he muttered, rising from the couch.
Ludwig peeked over the couch as Arthur met the delivery person and collected their food. Arthur snickered when he looked back and caught Ludwig’s gaze. He quickly turned away cheeks red. Arthur just smirked.
Arthur placed the food on the coffee table before planting a kiss on Ludwig’s head. “You look like a puppy,” Arthur teased.
He took his seat once more. “I was thinking we’d watch some movies while we ate. Sound good?”
Ludwig nodded. “Okay.”
Arthur turned on a random movie before the two settled with their boxes of stir-fried noodles and dug in. Ludwig couldn’t help but steal glances at Arthur while they ate and watched their first film. They were farther from each other than they were before. It shouldn’t have bothered him. He was always one to take things slow when it came to relationships. Yet here he was, feeling a tug to be closer. To press against him. To kiss him again. He could feel the flush creeping up already.
As if Arthur could read his mind, he scooted a bit closer. He gave a hesitant look to Ludwig, one that said: ‘Is this okay?’
Ludwig smiled softly and shifted closer to Arthur until his knee bumped into Arthur’s. For a moment, they just stared at each other, smiles turning into goofy grins, cheeks going from pale to bright red. Arthur pressed a kiss to Ludwig’s cheek.
They had kissed a lot, hadn’t they? It hadn’t even been twenty-four hours since their confession. But Ludwig liked it. Really liked it, despite it being a bit surprising at the same time. But he hoped Arthur would keep kissing him over and over. The night was still young after all.
After they finished eating, Arthur cuddled even closer, head resting on Ludwig’s shoulder, fingers locking with Ludwig’s once more.
“Despite your toned muscles, you’re quite comfortable,” Arthur mused, eyes drifting closed.
Ludwig gave a bashful laugh. “I-I’m glad.”
“You should stay over tonight.”
Ludwig tried not to jump or jerk away. “What?” he choked out.
“I-I don’t mean like that,” Arthur stuttered, red reaching all the way to his ears. “Just…I feel like I’m going to fall asleep here. A-And, it’s nice to have someone to lay beside.”
Oh. Ludwig nodded shyly, understanding. It did feel undeniably right to have Arthur lying against him, and the idea of going home to his lonely, empty bed was harder than it should have been.
“I-I wouldn’t mind,” Ludwig finally concluded, “If it’s not too much trouble.”
“None at all,” Arthur sighed serenely, rubbing his cheek against Ludwig’s shoulder.
By the end of their first film, Arthur was fast asleep. Ludwig laughed silently to himself. Without giving it much thought, he scooped Arthur up and brought him to his bed.
