WIP Tag Game
Rules: Post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them, and then post a little snippet or tell them something about it! Then tag as many people as you have WIPs.
I was tagged by both @meilas and @achillmango, who are such lovely people! I can only assume they must not have seen the last time I was tagged for this and had 48 WIPs to list. And that was 2021, so I've got so many more now!
In the interest of brevity, I have decided to just go through my POTO WIP document, where I've put snippets and ideas that are not long enough to be their own document yet. Enjoy!

I want to befriend the crows
Working on a better title, but yes, that is essentially it. Who doesn’t wanna befriend some crows? Crows are fascinating creatures and it amazes me how intelligent they are. They also just look really cool, let’s be honest.
What brought this along? Well, I woke up yesterday with the determined thought of wanting to be friends with the local crows. I live in the Netherlands in a rather large town, it’s very crowded here. But I live right next to a small park and in the last few months I’ve noticed more and more crows. We have quite a lot of jackdaws here too (and magpies, don’t get me started on those). but crows just stick out with their size and the noise they make.
Anyway, I read a few things about how to befriend crows and decided to start looking for them today in the park. I brought some peanuts with me, because I know they love nuts. I also decided to document my journey by posting some updates here on my blog. I’ll probably tag is as #crow diary or something. Or “Erik befriends the crows.” If you read this and you’re interested you can suggest a better name.
So, yes, today marks the first day. I wandered through our small park with a handful of peanuts in my pockets. The first jackdaws I come across, I thought they were crows cause suddenly I wasn’t sure, liked the nuts. But I moved on. I know a few spots I’ve seen them often before, but today there weren’t any, sadly.
I moved on to a different location when suddenly I hear the caw to each others. I try to pinpoint where it’s coming from, which isn’t that easy cause there was a lot of wind and rustling of the trees today. but eventually I spot one up in the trees. I left a few peanuts on the pavement for him. (That strip of the path wasn’t very busy). But he wasn’t interested at all. I moved on.
We have this sort of garden adjacent to our park, it’s a butterfly garden and houses lots of different plants for insects. It’s very beautiful. I had already decided to walk towards home and wanted to take a short cut through said garden. When suddenly... I see a crow, on the ground! He’s looking for food in the grass. I nochlantly drop some peanuts near a tree for him and move on.A few meters ahead I stop to look if he’s interested. He was moving towards the nuts when....
A man and his dog came walking along the path and the presence of said dog must’ve scared the crow away. I walked back to the little patch of grass but the crow was gone, sadly. I heard them caw a few more times but no luck on the ground.
Thus, I decided to head home after having been trying to find and feed crows for almost an hour. I will try again tomorrow on that same spot. It’s secluded and quiet, maybe that’s why the crow liked it.
Stay tuned!
(This turned out way longer than I thought)

15 QUESTIONS ABOUT THE MUSE !
Tumblr media
Erik
① ARE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE ?
‘‘Not that I’m aware of.’‘
② WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CRIED ?
“Can’t say. I don’t keep track of my own tears, though I don’t prevent them from flowing, so I cannot reliably tell when the last time they fell was.’’
③ DO YOU HAVE KIDS ?
“Yes. Quite a few, I’d believe.’’
④ DO YOU USE SARCASM A LOT ?
“Not really. It happens sometimes for humorous effect, but the message I want to convey might get lost. It is better to be clear and intent with the words you choose.
⑤ WHAT’S THE FIRST THING YOU NOTICE ABOUT PEOPLE ?
“I might come off as shallow for the answer, but I’ve noted that I notice someone much quicker if they have black hair... It’s a lovely color. If that requirement isn’t filled, well, I suppose I will have to go with height, then body type.’’
⑥ WHAT’S YOUR EYE COLOR ?
“White or pink, I suppose. It depends. If I take on a human shape I tend to go with black.’’
⑦ SCARY MOVIE OR HAPPY ENDING ?
‘’Depends on the mood, but happy endings are usually nice.’’
⑧ ANY SPECIAL TALENTS ?
‘’They’re far from important to mention.’’
⑨ WHERE WERE YOU BORN ?
‘’The place no longer exists and no longer bears a name, for it was lost to time. But I’ve always belonged to the Scandinavian region.’’
⑩ WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES ?
‘’Hm. Reading about various topics and subjects...’’
⑪ DO YOU HAVE ANY PETS ?
‘’In a sense… Mx. Fanden has currently 5 magpies they tend to, and as we live in the same sphere, they are in a sense mine as well. Though I don’t tend to them as that is Their job as the primary caretaker.’’
⑫ WHAT SPORTS DO YOU PLAY/HAVE YOU PLAYED ?
‘’I suppose I am forced to say dance, but don’t conflate the forced confession as me disliking it. Fanden needs Their dance partner and I am lovingly and willingly going to comply to Their request. ’’
⑬ HOW TALL ARE YOU?
‘’My size… depends on the day and the mood. But I enjoy being on the taller end. 8 foot, perhaps.’’
⑭ DREAM JOB ?
‘’I rather enjoy the one I have. I am not interested in getting a mortal day job.’’
⑮ FAVORITE SUBJECT AT SCHOOL ?
“I am not a person who is interested in school, but the world is ever shifting and it is unfortunately important to keep up with the changing times. I prefer to study in my own time. But I suppose if I had to choose, art classes and art theory.’’
Tumblr media
Fanden Tyken
① ARE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE ?
‘’I can’t say I am!’’
② WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CRIED ?
“Oh my… now that is certainly a question… When was the last time I cried? Oh dear, I’ll have to give you my most sincere apologies but can’t seem to remember?’’
③ DO YOU HAVE KIDS ?
“Gracious me. No, no. I don’t aim to get any either. I am more than content as I am without any.’’
④ DO YOU USE SARCASM A LOT ?
“Quite rarely, I believe. No, no, it is much better to clearly communicate what one wants to put into words rather than exaggerating or turning to rude alternatives.’’
⑤ WHAT’S THE FIRST THING YOU NOTICE ABOUT PEOPLE ?
“My, that is a good question. I believe I might notice how they dress and act, or rather lack in an act. A good outfit is important if you want a good first impression after all. Far from a requirement in these modern days, but it is what it is. ’’
⑥ WHAT’S YOUR EYE COLOR ?
“They change between white or gold.’’
⑦ SCARY MOVIE OR HAPPY ENDING ?
‘’Happy ending, I suppose.’’
⑧ ANY SPECIAL TALENTS ?
‘’I am quite proficient in the arts of dance, and music. Oh, how I love it so... And I suppose I should add carpentry? Architecture? Both? I suppose they are different things, so let’s add both to the list as well.’’
⑨ WHERE WERE YOU BORN ?
‘’I was never born, I was created fully formed as I am. But I did make Scandinavia my home, what a charming little place to call my own.’’
⑩ WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES ?
‘’I have so many! Goodness me, how could I ever list them all in a passing? In a rush? Oh dear, oh dear… that would never do… I’ll be cursed to know I am going to forget something, somehow…
But, well, I do quite enjoy playing music, I dance- oh! And I decided to get a day job in the mortal world, for fun, you know. Just to have something of substance in daily life. Ah, right, where was I… right. I do a little carpentry, I travel, I read, I- oh I love going to shows and see the gorgeous productions they’ve put on… I need to see if there are any ballet productions going on somewhere, it’s been far too long since last time - my, I seem to have gotten lost here, let me continue on my ever-growing list; Well... I take classes on things to learn about them and stay up to date…
I shop and I collect things- Many things, actually. Vinyl plates, books, trinkets, sleeve cuffs, suits, paintings, things of gold, and so much more. Ah… are you aware of how difficult some of the things I collect are to get these days? They were common household items just a mere 200 years ago and then no more! Poof, gone! Now I need to retort to annoying bidding sessions on the internet if I absolutely want anything specific from back then or learn how to make it myself - Which I am more than gladly willing to do, but... - Or go on auctions and hope for the best. Gracious… it’s so unfortunately unreasonable.’’
⑪ DO YOU HAVE ANY PETS ?
‘’Why, yes I do! I got the most charming little flock of magpies! 5 little trouble makers who liven up my world with their loud chattering. They are very lovable and attention-seeking little things.
I tend to have a few around me at all times, the house is just so empty when they’re not around. Shame their lifespan is no more than 15 years, but it’s not too bad for a bird.’’
⑫ WHAT SPORTS DO YOU PLAY/HAVE YOU PLAYED ?
‘’I dance, of course! I don’t partake in a lot of other sports- well, perhaps I do a little bit of gymnastics on the side in relation to the dance, I suppose. I know a fair variety of dance styles as well and I am always interested in learning more.’’
⑬ HOW TALL ARE YOU?
‘’In this shape, I am about 6’5’’ tall?’’
⑭ DREAM JOB ?
‘’I already have it.’’
⑮ FAVORITE SUBJECT AT SCHOOL ?
‘’Let me see… I suppose I did enjoy the classes I took to update my carpeting and home building skills? And music, of course. I prefer practical classes much more than I do theoretical ones, I must admit.’’

How Would Goal! Look If it Was Made Today?
Tumblr media
The Goal! film series, tracking the ascent of loveable Mexican maestro Santiago Muñez from a standout amateur player in Los Angeles into one of the best in the world, was a staple of a generation's footballing education.
If you're a mid-to-late 90s kid who came to terms with the sport at the beginning of the 21st century, chances are you spent hours in the garden or out in the street practicing step-overs, roulettes and audacious overhead flicks, having been inspired by the film to chap on your mate's door with a ball under your arm.
If the Saudi Arabian group manages to buy #NewcastleUnited, maybe they’ll finally be able to buy a decent replacement for Santiago Munez
There was talk of a reboot in 2016, but it's maybe just as well that it got binned. Justin Bieber as the main man? No, you can keep it.
No, no; if we're going to reboot Goal! for 2020, we're going to do it right. And having already adapted Bend it Like Beckham, Mean Machine, Jimmy Grimble and more for the social media generation, here is 90min's pitch for how a modern version of the iconic movie would look.
The Team
In Goal! (2005):
Muñez, our hero for the next 1000 words or so, earns a trial with Newcastle United, after impressing out-of-work scout Glen Foy with an acrobatic finish in a Sunday League game in Los Angeles, where he and his Mexican family live.
In the context of the movie, the Magpies are faltered title challengers, and manager Erik Dornhelm (Marcel Iures) outlines their goals for the season in a press conference unveiling marquee signing Gavin Harris (Alessandro Nivola)
In Goal! (2020):
In theory, Newcastle still works. They finished 14th in 2004/05, and sit 13th in the league at present meaning they're in a broadly similar position. The studio probably didn't think that the club would go from consistently challenging for a Champions League spot to mid-table fodder so quickly.
So we're going to change things up for the sake of believability. We need a realistic top four challenger; ideally one who has recently (kind of) been in the title picture, and have aspirations of getting back in there
Arriving in England
In Goal! (2005): Santiago arrives on British shores, his trip having been funded by his gran after his dad stole his last €1200. Despite not having all of the correct papers, he is let through by a Newcastle-supporting immigration official because the club 'need all the help they can get.'
It then occurs to him he has no clue how to get from the airport (presumably Heathrow) to Newcastle, so he calls Foy from a phone box to ask. Foy then advises him on which train to catch and puts him up for the duration of his month-long trial.
In Goal! (2020): Our Santiago simply has to have the right papers; there's no way in hell an illegal immigrant gets into Brexit Britain that easily, but we can write around that.
There's no need for train fare; it's 2020, and for a trial at Tottenham, Santiago just needs to travel to the north of the city. An Uber is arranged. 'Been busy tonight, mate?' he asks in an overly posh/fake accent, trying to brush up on the culture after asking his 112 Twitter followers how to fit in.
His beach (backstreets of Enfield) montage is set to I Gotta Feeling by the Black Eyed Peas; we're lifting the tone a little.
The Adversity
In Goal! (2005): Santiago takes to a despicably muddy training pitch and gets the living bejesus kicked out of him by his mildly racist teammates.
He struggles to come to terms with it all; even more-so after a w**ker team-mate in the reserves who has had it out for him since day one steps on his inhaler, ultimately revealing his struggles with asthma to the coaches.
Seeing Almiron and Joelinton up front reminds me of the Newcastle glory days, Santiago Munez in his prime slotting them into Gavin Harris. Those were the days #newars
As if that wasn't bad enough for our emerging young star, he even gets stitched up by a couple of girls at a party, and has 'indecent' (but really tame) pictures sold to a newspaper; pictures which get back to the manager and his love interest Roz (Anna Friel).
Oh yeah, and then his dad dies.
In Goal! (2020): We're not having any of the xenophobic nonsense in our version. Instead, it's some gentle ribbing about the fact he's only ever played 'tinpot' football in the states. The muddy pitch isn't a problem; we have all-weather astroturfs in the future.
He can't have asthma since he'd never pass a medical in the first place. Our boy's underlying knee injury that's exacerbated by a sly, well-placed kick when that nameless defensive midfielder susses it out.
And we're going to steer clear of the sex scandal altogether. It wasn't a big enough plot point to justify writing in the sort of cataclysmic controversy that would be required to almost disgrace a footballer in the current climate.
His dad still dies, though. We can't change that.
The Cameos
In Goal! (2005): There are no shortage of cameos from real-life footballers. The most notable one comes in the gym at the training ground, when Alan Shearer - then still a player - asks Santiago if he's finished with the leg press machine.
Santiago is later introduced by Harris to David Beckham, and Real Madrid teammates Zinedine Zidane and Raul at a nightclub. That has no real significance (in the first film, at least), but it's a nice nod
In Goal! (2020): For obvious reasons, it can't be Shearer. Instead, it's modern day Spurs legend Harry Kane, but instead of Santiago springing to his feet to offer the machine up right away, he just sort of shrugs and says he'll be five minutes. He's not intimidated by Kane in the slightest.
Beckham was the most marketable star in football back in 2005; nowadays it's Cristiano Ronaldo. So it would be he and two Juventus team-mates, probably the underwhelming combo of Aaron Ramsey and Paulo Dybala, that Santiago has a chance meeting with.
The Big Game
In Goal! (2005): As the movie enters its final straight, we get some 'actual' football. We see Patrick Kluivert net the winner against Chelsea to set up an explosive final day shootout, in which Santiago earns a start against Liverpool.
Our hero - having long-since gotten to grips with reserve football by this point - has the game of his life. He sets up Harris for the opener and the equaliser to make it 2-2, after 'Liverpool' (10 filler actors and the real Steven Gerrard) came from behind to lead.
Santiago then curls a free-kick into the top corner to ensure Champions League football for the Magpies, and they all lived happily ever after.
In Goal! (2020): We need to change it up, so it's a Son Heung-min winner against Manchester United that sets up the finale; which happens to be a final day North London Derby at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Let's say Arsenal are a point ahead of fifth-placed Spurs; so a win ensures Champions League football.
Following the vein of the original, the only 'real' Arsenal player is their most recognisable star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. But he has a quiet game; Santiago's two assists and his last-minute winner (an acrobatic volley instead of a free-kick since that's more in line with what he's been doing for the entire film) clinches it.
The stadium erupts; our hero is redeemed, and Tottenham finally have something to celebrate.
Ah, the magic of fictional cinema.

Your favorite Xmen ship (For the send me a ship meme)
@balsa-the-spear-wielder aieeeeeeeeee thank u for sending this in!!!!! (also im sorry im super late w the reply, i was doing some arty stuff!!!!)
anyway, im going with charles/erik for this, so…
who hogs the duvet - charles, even despite how luxuriously large the blankets he buys are. midnight tug-of-wars between them are not uncommon; erik has even pushed a sleeping charles out of the bed because of it before, once (okay, more than once…)
who texts/rings to check how their day is going - if erik’s out of his immediate telepathic range, charles. he’s a bit of a worrier. though, depending on their current situation (i.e. if there is anybody actively trying to hunt them down and kill them), erik, too, sometimes.
who’s the most creative when it comes to gifts - erik. from the suspiciously extravagant (original copies of very expensive scientific books and manuscripts that charles was certain were not for sale or borrowing) to the hilarious (a coupon for a free trial of hair-loss treatment on april fools day)
who gets up first in the morning - whoever drank the least the night before. but really, it varies, depending on who has the more urgent task to see to that day; a lot of the time, they wake each other and stay in bed together for a while before actually getting up.
who suggests new things in bed - at first, it was charles, which surprised erik. now, theyre both as creative as each other.
who cries at movies - charles cries at everything, from ‘the titanic’ to a nature documentary to a death scene on coronation street (erik can even predict when charles is crying without even looking). but then there are certain things that just break erik (which only makes charles, who is undoubtedly already crying, cry even harder).
who gives unprompted massages - erik, all the time. he’s very good at it, too (big, strong hands, you know…)
who fusses over the other when they’re sick - charles is a notorious fusser in general, anyway, but when he gets sick erik somehow, amazingly, manages to outdo even him. there is nothing he wont do for charles - even almost attempting to write a paper for him, once, until charles gently reminded him that, love, you have no idea what half the words in the title even mean.
who gets jealous easiest - erik. charles has the benefit of the whole mind reading thing, yknow? (damn telepaths…)
who has the most embarrassing taste in music - he doesn’t play music often, but when he does, oh god can some of erik’s choices be bad. charles can be, too, but he at least somewhat understands when something is bad (and its his dancing that is far more embarrassing, really).
who collects something unusual - erik is like a magpie. if he finds something metal and shiny that he thinks is interesting, it gets added to the collection (which includes such wonders as an old, dented bottlecap shaped like italy).
who takes the longest to get ready - charles. he’s a worrier and a control freak, and at any time may be carrying a thousand and one papers about who-knows-what with him. erik has been known to take naps while waiting.
who is the most tidy and organised - erik, mostly because he has very little to get disorganized in the first place.
who gets most excited about the holidays - charles is very, very over-extravagant with any celebration (erik stopped asking him how much he spends on christmas decorations alone). erik sometimes likes to frighten kids on halloween (but always makes sure they still get some candy from charles).
who is the big spoon/little spoon - erik is big spoon, charles is little spoon, obviously (they just fit together so perfectly).
who gets most competitive when playing games and/or sports - theyre both as bad as each other, especially when competing against each other, but the moment charles senses he has even the slightest chance of winning…lets just say, erik is a very patient man.
who starts the most arguments - erik, by doing everything charles really wishes he wouldnt (‘erik, please stop scaring the children on halloween…’)
who suggests that they buy a pet - charles likes cats, okay? and the poor abandoned kittens at the shelter just looked so sad…erik is pretty sure hes allergic.
what couple traditions they have - it’s how he made his move in the first place, so erik is always putting together the most romantic dinners he can for charles. oh, and forehead, cheek, nose, hand, etc. etc. kisses, all the time.
what tv shows they watch together - erik is way too soft on charles when it comes to the television, so probably at least 50% of what he watches (the documentaries arent so bad, but erik is still not sure whether the british soap operas or recordings of theses on biology put him to sleep faster). erik does like the gritty cop dramas, though.
what other couple they hang out with - pshh, all of them. theyre that couple that giggle at and make fun of other couples for even the smallest public displays of affection, but are then totally unabashed about it themselves.
how they spend time together as a couple - they challenge each other a lot, whether that be through physical games and challenges (so many chess games…) or deep conversations. they both tend to busy themselves during the day, so when they get time with each other, its not uncommon to find them simply relaxing together on the couch or bed.
who made the first move - erik, following previously-mentioned intensely romantic dinner. for a telepath, charles was fairly oblivious up until the last minute (but thankfully, very much reciprocated).
who brings flowers home - erik, but without much fanfare. most of the time charles will be working, hear erik walk in, look up and find a bouquet suddenly before him.
who is the best cook - charles has a tendency to rush things, always feeling like he has something better to do than cook. erik, on the other hand, is a master of several dishes from all over the world (and is sometimes quite appalled at charles’ laziness).
again, thank you!!

“And at last I see the light! And it's like the fog has lifted... And at last I see the light, And it's like the sky is new! And it's warm and real and bright, And the world has somehow shifted... All at once everything is different Now that I see you...”
~ “I See the Light (cover),” by Elsie Lovelock and Kestin Howard

It’s interesting how, even when two parties know they have something special, it can still take a while before they find the right words to express how they feel and what they want. Even when Orion Amari and Carewyn Cromwell had each come to grips with their romantic feelings, it didn’t really change how many obstacles would be in the way of them living a traditional “happily-ever-after” with wedding bells and a little house of their own. Although yes, Orion felt deeply for Carewyn, as she did him, they both also greatly valued their own independence and autonomy. Carewyn and Orion didn’t even live in the same country anymore, one residing in England and the other Scotland, and their respective careers -- one at the London-based Ministry of Magic, the other for the Montrose Magpies Quidditch team -- would make it close to impossible for them to move. Merging households would be a nightmare under such circumstances...and yet, at the same time, neither Orion nor Carewyn was comfortable giving only part of their heart away. They both knew that the subject of their affection deserved everything and more from whatever partner they chose -- they just had no idea if they could be that “everything” for them, even if they wanted to.
That all changed, though, one day in December 1999, a year after the Second Wizarding War ended.
Carewyn’s feelings for Orion had not gone unnoticed by her closest friends. The lawyer’s unofficial twin and fellow “Fireball” Charlie Weasley had been almost affronted when he caught wind that Carewyn had let Orion stay the night on the futon in her living room without having made plans ahead of time -- Carewyn was a planner first and foremost and she never let Charlie crash at her place without giving her fair warning. Charlie vented his disbelief to Ben Copper and his wife Wendy @drinkyoursoupbitch, and they were both pretty shocked too. Wendy ended up following up with Carewyn later that week when she stopped by Carewyn’s office one evening for some coffee.
“On your futon, huh?” she said, her blue eyebrows raised and her lips spread into a playful smile.
Carewyn rolled her eyes up toward the skylight in her ceiling, her red lips turned up in a smile. "Charlie's that jealous about it?"
Her smile faded as she turned her focus toward her paperwork rather than look at Wendy. She wasn’t uncomfortable, of course -- she just had a lot of work to do that night before getting back home and starting dinner for herself and Erik, that was all.
“ ...Orion had had a late night, and he'd have to be back in London early the next morning. It'd be cruel to force him to go home and then lug himself and Eos out of bed so early, just to get back where he already was..."
Wendy's eyes twinkled knowingly. "Oh, of course. But still...is there something there?"
Carewyn kept her focus on the files she was sorting through, her blue eyes narrowing ever-so-slightly as she siphoned through them.
"I suppose it depends on what ‘something’ you're referring to,” she said after a moment. “If you're referring to a romantic relationship, then no, there is not."
Was that a touch of melancholy in her eyes? Surely not.
Wendy studied the other woman over the rim of her coffee cup as she took a long sip.
"I mean, Carey," she tapped the porcelain, considering her words carefully. Her tone shifted to a gentle sincerity, "is there an attraction there for you?"
Carewyn stopped rifling through her papers. She paused, before slowly closing her eyes and exhaling through her nose in a heavy sigh.
"...Of course there is," she admitted very softly. "I've always been fond of Orion -- I liked him pretty much immediately, and I respected him all the more, as the years went on. All I wonder is when that fondness...grew to the point that it had to plant roots. And what to do about it, now that it has..."
Wendy smiled fondly. "Well, I suppose the big question is, do you want to do anything? I mean...if you were looking for a tofu-eating Quidditch player to pine over, you certainly picked the best one."
Carewyn rested her head in her hand on her desk, her eyes falling onto the wood instead of looking up at her friend. "That's just it, Wendy, I...I do want to do something. I don't want to have to bottle this up -- I want to protect him, to take care of him and Eos, to...love him with everything I am. But..."
Her gaze moved up to the skylight too, her blue eyes deepening with more of that odd melancholy.
"...At school...when I dated Andre...I didn't know myself like I do now. I probably would've accepted a marriage, and a family, and frequent sex, at that time, not knowing any different. But now that I do know myself...know that I don't want that happy ending attached to most romances...how do I pursue a romantic relationship? How do I ask someone to date a woman who wouldn't give up her job and life for him...no matter how deep my feelings are?"
She closed her eyes, visibly hurting at this thought.
"Especially when...he's already been hurt before...when he's already had partners who tried to force him to give up everything, to please them?"
Carewyn bowed her head.
"...How can I love him the way he deserves, when I'm so selfish?"
Wendy considered her answer, her eyes drifting up to the skylight in Carewyn’s ceiling that reflected the London sky miles above them.
“They say that sacrifice is a foundation of love, and it’s true,” she said slowly, “but...sacrifice between two people who love each other is a two-way street. I love my work — you know I do. Ben knows how much I love it. But if he ever asked me to give up,” she gestured broadly, “everything...I’d do it. I wouldn’t want to, and Merlin, it would hurt like…well, more than anything in the world! But I’d do it. And…I know in my bones he would do the same for me. Hell, he’s almost died for me a few times...”
The old memories made her pause, closing her eyes briefly to try to block them out.
“Thing is…he doesn’t ask for that. He…won’t ask for it.”
Wendy looked back down at Carewyn seriously.
“I guess what I’m trying to say is...sometimes loving someone -- not just being in love, but really loving them -- means that you know you could ask them to move heaven and earth for you and they’d do it, no matter how much it’d hurt...but you won’t ask that. It’s good that you’re thinking about this now, of course -- but you don’t have to have it all figured out just yet. If you want this...don’t be afraid to let Orion in. Let him see everything you have, and everything you fear, and let him decide. Maybe he wouldn’t want you to give up everything you’ve built here for him. Maybe he would. Maybe he’d want you to meet him halfway, somehow. But…let him make that choice to love you, whatever it might look like. You’ll never know if it’s meant to be if you don’t ever ask if it could be.”
Although Carewyn didn't look Wendy in the face nearly at all as she spoke, it clearly was because she was taking in what she said and thinking hard, not because she wasn't listening. When Wendy was finished, Carewyn brought a hand up to brush her bangs out of her face, her hand sliding past her right eye as it went. Then, with a swallow, she forced herself to look Wendy in the face at last, even though her eyes were still full of so much emotion.
"...Thank you, Wendy.”
The lawyer couldn't keep eye contact very long. Soon her eyes once again almost of their own accord drifted off to the corner just over Wendy's shoulder.
"I suppose...I always have had a bad tendency, to put the bar too high for myself. Orion's never expected perfection from me, however much I expect it from myself..."
Her eyes softened noticeably.
"He’s always been happy with what he has, even while he’s reaching for something better. But I know he appreciates the work and time I put in, too...how much I care. Even when I care too much, and 'flare up like a Fire Crab.'”
She brought a hand up to try to hold in her giggling.
Wendy’s lips spread into a mischievous grin. “Hey, at least he doesn’t compare your temperament and coloring to a Billywig. But I guess it’s his way of getting back at me for calling him the Tofu King -- ”
In that moment, Ben Copper had abruptly run down the hall, skidding to a halt in the door frame of Carewyn’s office.
“Carey,” he said urgently, his face very white and grave, “the Aurors have just been sent to your street.”
Carewyn and Wendy both shot to their feet in alarm.
“What!?”
As the prosecutor for nearly all of the cases involving ex-Death Eaters, Carewyn had received a lot of recognition and praise, but she’d understandably also gotten a few anonymous death threats from people who had Death Eater sympathies. She wasn’t the only one -- quite a few other prominent members of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement like Talbott and the newly hired Harry Potter got them too. This day in particular, however, a swarm of dementors -- newly banned from Azkaban by Minister Shacklebolt, in part due to their association with Lord Voldemort during the War -- had been set loose in several areas of London that contained the homes of prominent Ministry employees...including Carewyn’s. Naturally Carewyn herself was not home yet -- but her ward Erik had just returned from Hogwarts for winter break in the midst of his first year, and he as a latch-key kid was at their flat  completely alone until Carewyn got off work.
Carewyn immediately dropped everything and rushed home as quickly as she could, Ben and Wendy in tow. When she arrived on her street corner, she found the neighborhood in chaos. The entire street was blanketed by unnatural, heavy black fog, as if it was being suffocated by a blanket made of mist and tar. Muggles were running blindly in all directions since they couldn’t see the dementors, while the Aurors who could cast Patronuses shot them at every part of the darkness they could reach. Ben, Wendy, and Carewyn immediately all cast theirs, and their dun stallion, unicorn, and Abraxan winged horse charged into the fray to help the Aurors’ other pearly white creatures in their fight. Carewyn herself was determined to find Erik and raced in the direction of her flat. As she and the Coppers drew close, however, they were startled by what they saw.
Carewyn’s Abraxan Patronus had charged to the front, flapping its wide wings in an attempt to break up the suffocating darkness. As it did so, another bright white Patronus soared through the air toward hers, gliding through the air with incredible grace and helping it beat the dementors back.
It was another Abraxan winged horse.
The second graceful Abraxan Patronus’s wings seemed to brush lightly over the wings of Carewyn’s before flying back in the direction it’d come from. Her eyes very wide, Carewyn raced after it, her own Patronus flying over her as she went. The second Abraxan Patronus ended up landing a short ways away, its wings spread protectively over two people knelt down on the ground -- a small almost-thirteen-year-old boy with curly blond hair and tears streaming down his pale face, and the Patronus’s caster, an olive-skinned man with an uneven haircut, a beard, and black eyes, dressed in harem pants, arm warmers, and loose-fitting robes.
It was Orion. And although Carewyn halted mid-step several feet away, her breath stilling in her throat, her Patronus flew down to meet Orion’s, the two Abraxans’ noses touching when they met.
Orion had known for years that his and Carewyn’s Patronuses were the same. The knowledge had surprised him, but he’d managed to keep his emotions in check at the time. Carewyn, however, didn’t do as well in containing hers -- her hands flew up to her mouth to try to suppress the choke that left her throat and although she didn’t cry, her eyes flooded with tears.
Her Patronus disappeared in a puff of white smoke as she barrelled over to them, collapsing onto her knees so she could pull Erik into her arms and hug him tightly, her face white with terror.
“Erik! Erik, thank Merlin -- ”
Erik was very pale and shaking in her arms, but he had trouble looking her in the face. His jaw was clenched hard as he clutched at Carewyn’s sleeve. Ben and Wendy rushed over too, looking just as harried.
“Erik -- kid, you okay?” asked Wendy.
Ben glanced from Erik in Carewyn’s arms to up at Orion and his Abraxan Patronus hovering over them, his brown eyes slightly narrowed. Orion’s face was just as solemn.
“I was in the area when I felt the dementors’ presence,” he explained. “I found him out here, shooting Lumos charms and Knockback Jinxes at the dementors to try to drive them away...it’s possible he may have come out to help, knowing Muggles can’t see them...”
Carewyn cradled Erik in her arms, her hands resting on his back and the back of his head protectively as she squeezed him tight and gently stroked his hair.
Leaving Erik at home alone was never an arrangement she’d liked, but he was old enough to be there at her flat without supervision, as long as he stayed inside and didn’t let anyone in. But clearly the protective enchantments she’d placed weren’t strong enough to prevent the dementors’ draining influence from creeping inside...and once Erik felt that, it was unsurprising to Carewyn that he’d wanted to do something about it. His history in dementor captivity when he was rounded up by Umbridge’s Muggle-Born Registration Commission was explanation enough.
She hadn’t done enough. She hadn’t thought that anyone would go so far as to threaten her son ward, while she wasn’t there to protect him...
Carewyn swallowed the huge, painful lump that had formed in her throat, closing her eyes tight to try to force back her tears. She had to show a brave face for Erik: he was scared enough as it was.
The image of Orion’s and her Patronuses touching noses rippled over her mind. The memory of their light, equally bright and perfectly matched, seemed to weaken the grip of the fear strangling her heart.
His Patronus was the same as hers. His soul...was the same as hers...protecting Erik when she hadn’t been there...flying to the side of hers, when it was most needed...
The memory filled her up with such courage and warmth that Carewyn thought she’d likely never struggle for ammunition to create another Patronus again.
“Erik...we need to get you inside,” the lawyer said at last, her voice coming out as a low, steadier whisper than before. “Some chocolate will help.”
Ben brought a hand onto Carewyn’s shoulder and squeezed it. “We’ll take care of things out here with the Aurors, Carey. You stay with Erik.”
Wendy glanced at Orion.
“Orion, maybe you should go with them with your Patronus...clear them a way back home, you know.”
Although her eyes and face were serious, the way her eyes flickered between Carewyn and Orion spoke volumes. Orion, his head bowing almost self-consciously, nodded. He tentatively brought an arm around Carewyn’s shoulders, his black eyes trailing over her face to down at Erik.
“Erik,” he said softly, “can you stand, little Jarvey?”
Although he wasn’t able to speak, Erik clutched onto Carewyn and Orion’s arms and used the grip to hoist himself up onto his feet. Sensing that he was still too weak and disoriented to walk on his own, Orion quickly swooped in and snaked one of his strong arms around the boy to hold him up.
“I’ve got you,” he murmured. Carewyn moved to Erik’s other side and wrapped her own arm around Erik too, so that both she and Orion were supporting him. “...We’ve got you...”
Orion’s eyes met Carewyn’s over Erik’s head. The light from his Patronus reflected in their depths, making them resemble two tiny night skies flecked with stars. A perfect match for Carewyn’s, the color of which could be compared to a cloudless blue daytime sky.
((OOC: Thanks to @drinkyoursoupbitch for roleplaying that first scenario between Wendy and Carewyn with me so many months ago!! I’m so delighted I finally got to include it in this! 💙))

Ship asks for Carewyn & Orion
7 - 10
Do they follow the same career path after Hogwarts or follow different choices?
One of the single biggest obstacles for Carewyn and Orion as a couple were their completely different career paths, which both ended up locking them onto a particular city and country. Carewyn works as a well-respected lawyer for the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, which requires her staying in London, England, while Orion is the brilliant star Chaser on the Montrose Magpies Quidditch team, which requires him to both travel a lot for work and live in Montrose, Scotland.

What song(s) describes their relationship with one another?
I made a whole playlist for these two as a couple! ^.^
Tumblr media
Do they have any inside jokes with each other?
Orion loves citing that Carewyn has “more fire than a Fire Crab,” even after all these years. Frequently he’ll calm her temper by soothingly whispering in her ear to “mind her cinders, little Fire Crab.” Carewyn in return -- partly inspired by her friend Wendy Gordon-Copper @drinkyoursoupbitch referring to Orion as “the Tofu King” -- will teasingly bow and feign humility before “the king” whenever any discussion of food, especially tofu, is brought up. Carewyn’s ward Erik will also snarkily bring up tofu in regards to absolutely anything, food or not, whenever Orion’s around (i.e. “Does that come with a side of tofu?” or “How were your exams?” “All right, I guess -- but they didn’t ask nearly enough questions about tofu”), and Carewyn, Orion, and Orion’s daughter Eos all piggyback off that.
Carewyn: “(raised eyebrow) What are you two whispering about over there?”
Erik: “(grinning like a devil) Oh...just the proper way to serve tofu as a dessert.”
Eos: “(giggling) Dipped in chocolate, or fried like a donut!”
Orion: “(mildly) An interesting debate. I do believe there is ‘tofu ice cream’ at the store around the corner, which one could add to either.”
Carewyn: “(dryly) We can eat a bowl of it while you tell us what you were really whispering about.”

You have yourself a big fan of Orion/Carewyn. I was wondering if you have any headcanons for them yet?
-rosievixen
^.^ Yatta! Another passenger on the HMS Carion! Hahaha.
I’m still developing stuff, but here are a few things I’ve come up with --
Orion’s feelings for Carewyn really started “going off-balance” for him when she got hurt in the Quidditch Final, but he first realized that Carewyn could be someone he could fall in love with when he saw her Patronus. Orion learned how to cast Expecto Patronum earlier that year, and he was so stunned to see someone else with an Abraxan Winged Horse Patronus. He knew, however, that he was about to start on a path toward his future as a Quidditch player and that Carewyn herself was on a path centered around the Vaults, so he kept his thoughts to himself, telling himself that if they were truly meant to be, like the Patronus superstition dictates, they’d find a way back to each other someday. In the subsequent years they were apart, Orion often scolded himself for his cowardice.
Carewyn was always very fond of Orion, but she didn’t really acknowledge to herself how much the love she felt had become something deeply romantic until they were adults. Looking back, she realized that most people probably wouldn’t throw themselves in front of a Bludger just to make sure someone else’s dream came true.
Once Orion graduated, he and Carewyn exchanged letters somewhat infrequently, since Orion’s schedule as a Quidditch player is so erratic. Orion didn’t see Carewyn in person again until the Second Wizarding War.
In the years between their meetings, Orion had several romantic partners, but none of them lasted very long. The longest was with a young woman named Delilah Flint, the mother of Orion’s daughter, Eos Amari. Delilah gave birth to Eos right after the revelation of Voldemort’s return in 1996, and she not only was deeply afraid of Voldemort due to her family’s history with the Death Eaters, but she also suffered from severe post-partum depression after giving birth to Eos. To top it all off, Delilah was in such severe financial trouble that she soon would have no choice but to go to her family for help, who would not be all right with her having had a child of mixed ancestry out of wedlock. All of this weighed on Delilah enough that she was ready to give Eos up to an orphanage, which of course Orion couldn’t bear the thought of. Although he tried everything he could to try to convince Delilah to reconsider, even going so far as to propose marriage to Delilah so as to keep both her and Eos in his life, Delilah rejected all of his attempts, practically dropping six-month-old Eos in Orion’s lap and leaving for her family’s house that very night, never to return. When the Ministry fell, Orion had to go into hiding (a bit difficult with an infant in tow) -- fortunately thanks to fellow members of the Quidditch League like Andre Egwu, Oliver Wood, Skye Parkin, and Erika Rath, Orion was able to escape the Death Eaters when they swept over the League looking for people with “questionable” magical ancestry. One of those Death Eaters sent after Orion was Night Rhea @nightrhea-hphm, who had played alongside him on the Slytherin Quidditch team once upon a time -- no one knew until well afterward that secret-double-agent!Night had actually gone a bit over-the-top in her burning of the Quidditch League’s headquarters so as to give more fugitives like Orion the chance to escape.
Orion and Carewyn end up colliding during the Second Wizarding War when Carewyn and her friend and coworker Angelo Lancaster @angellazull were enlisted in helping smuggle several prisoners out of Ministry custody, including Orion. One of the very first things Carewyn and Orion said to each other was “You cut your hair.” “So did you.” (I see Orion taking on the “long hair with an undercut” look and wearing a short ponytail so as to keep the hair off his neck while he’s competing in Quidditch matches. Carewyn of course wears her hair shorter as an adult.)
The two reconnect further after the War while Orion tries to build a new home for himself and Eos. Carewyn, being a lawyer, helps him sort out the paperwork designating Orion as Eos’s legal guardian since he hadn’t been married to Delilah when she first gave birth to Eos.
Orion finds a wry amusement in how his daughter and Carewyn’s “son” have the same initials -- Eos Amari and Erik Apollo -- and both have names evocative of Greek Gods.
Carewyn is more amused by the fact that one of Orion’s primary lullabies for Eos is “Walking in the Air” -- the same song she sang for him after the Final match against Ravenclaw.
Orion loves listening to Carewyn rattle on about her court cases. He gets great entertainment out of the “Fire Crab” level of fire she expresses. Despite his amusement when she’s informally discussing the cases, however, he’s also always totally proud beyond belief when she wins one of those cases, even if he doesn’t explicitly say so.
What Orion loves more, though, is whenever Carewyn sings. One of the only times Orion’s ever cried happy tears (or even cried, period) in his life is when Carewyn first sings a lullaby to put fussy toddler Eos to sleep one night.
Carewyn loves watching Orion fly with the Montrose Magpies. She usually doesn’t tell Orion if she’s coming ahead of time so that when she rushes to greet him after the match, it’s a nice surprise. The first time she did this, Orion was so overwhelmed and happy that he couldn’t stop himself from pushing past all of the reporters to get to her. When she threw her arms around him in a hug, Orion -- not used to receiving or even expressing a lot of physical affection, thanks to his childhood -- kind of froze up like a startled cat, before mirroring her and holding her back. He then didn’t let go of her for a solid ten minutes.
Expect moonlit broom ride dates for these two. Carewyn’s a little out of practice on a broom given how much of a workaholic she is, and she loves taking the opportunity to fly side by side with Orion again.
After finding out Orion was vegetarian, Carewyn goes out of her way to learn a good amount of vegetarian-friendly recipes for whenever Orion comes over to visit. (She gets some good advice from friend Wendy Gordon @drinkyoursoupbitch while doing research.)
Even though Carewyn is the Mama Bear and frequently reminds Orion to assert himself more and meet important deadlines, Orion “Papa Bears” Carewyn just as much by encouraging her to sleep more and trying to ween her off of caffeine.
When Orion’s around, you’ll often see the two of them drinking tea together instead of coffee (which Carewyn drinks a lot at work) or white wine (which Carewyn indulges in at parties). Orion’s favorite is lavender tea -- Carewyn prefers a nice Earl Gray.
When Orion uses his own Abraxan Winged Horse Patronus in front of Carewyn for the first time, it’s right around the time that both of them have realized the depth of their feelings for each other but have yet to actually verbalize it. Needless to say, Carewyn can’t stop herself from crying at the sight of it.
Although Orion frequently says Carewyn’s inner fire rivals that of a Fire Crab, he still most frequently compares her to an Abraxan. His pet name for her ends up being “his Abraxan.” Carewyn will dip into the usual things like “dear” and “love,” but when she’s feeling particularly affectionate, she’ll call Orion “starlight.”
Orion most frequently compares his daughter Eos to a Mooncalf because of her big, cutesy eyes. He most frequently compares Carewyn’s ward Erik to a Jarvey because of his snarky attitude and overzealous swearing.
Orion/Carewyn would be a deeply romantic legal partnership more than a domestic partnership or marriage. Despite being partners under the law for legal reasons like child guardianship and healthcare, they’d each have their own flat -- Carewyn’s in London, England near her job at the Ministry and Orion’s in Montrose, Scotland, the hometown of his Quidditch team -- and their own routine apart from each other. They frequently will Floo over to their respective partner’s place for a meal or to stay the weekend and they’re very affectionate with each other, but the two never really create a traditional “nuclear family” with Carewyn as Eos’s stepmother or Orion as a second legal guardian for Erik. Despite this, Eos does see Carewyn as a mother figure and Erik does have a lot of respect for Orion however much he snarks his face off.
