TO ABSOLUTELY NO ONE'S SURPRISE, MOVIES ARE COMPLETE BULLSHIT, AND SCIENCE EXPLAINS WHY.
PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on illustrations of NEO impact collisions with planet Earth. Various artists.
OVERVIEW: "When an asteroid hits the middle of the ocean in Hollywood movies, it creates devastating waves that wipe out coastal cities. But new simulations reveal that real asteroids don't make such a splash. That's because the crash releases most of its energy hurling water up into the atmosphere, and very little on making waves.
"The folklore has been that tsunamis from impactors will be the danger," Galen Gisler, who studies the physics of geological processes at Los Alamos National Laboratory, said at the Lunar and Planetary Sciences Conference last month in The Woodlands, Texas. (Gisler also presented the work at the American Geophysical Union's fall meeting in December 2016.) He ran 3D simulations that modeled wave formation from falling rocks of various sizes, and found that the waves formed by smaller asteroids resemble landslide tsunamis on Earth.

🌍🦗 Journey to the Past: Earth in the Age of Giant Insects 🌿🦕
youtube
Imagine a world where insects ruled as giants, soaring through the skies and scuttling across the Earth's surface. This intriguing period, known as the Carboniferous era, is a fascinating chapter in our planet's history. Join us on a captivating journey as we explore what Earth was like during this age of colossal insects and lush forests.
🌿 The Carboniferous Era: A Verdant Paradise 🌿
During the Carboniferous era, which spanned from approximately 359 to 299 million years ago, Earth was vastly different from the world we know today. It was a time of lush, swampy forests, teeming with life and unique geological features.
🌳 Towering Tree Ferns and Giant Horsetails 🌾
One of the defining features of this era was the prevalence of towering tree ferns and giant horsetails. These plants, which could reach heights of up to 30 meters (98 feet), provided a rich habitat for a diverse array of creatures, including massive insects.
🦗 The Rise of Giant Insects 🐜
The high oxygen levels during the Carboniferous era, estimated to be around 35%, played a crucial role in the evolution of gigantic insects. Insects rely on the diffusion of oxygen through their bodies, and the higher levels in this ancient atmosphere allowed them to grow to unprecedented sizes.
🦋 Dragonflies the Size of Hawks 🌬️
One of the most iconic creatures of this era was the Meganeura, a colossal dragonfly with a wingspan of up to 75 centimeters (29.5 inches), comparable to that of some hawks. These giant insects ruled the skies, preying on smaller creatures.
🕷️ Enormous Arachnids and Millipedes 🕸️
Giant arachnids, such as the Arthropleura, a massive millipede-like creature, patrolled the forest floor. Some Arthropleura species reached lengths of over 2 meters (6.5 feet). While these creatures may evoke fear today, they were an integral part of the ecosystem during the Carboniferous era.
🌋 Volcanoes and Continental Drift 🌎
The Carboniferous era was marked by significant geological activity, including volcanic eruptions and the formation of Pangaea, the supercontinent that eventually gave rise to our modern continents. These geological events shaped the landscape and influenced the distribution of life.
🌪️ Climate and Extinction Events 🦠
Despite the lush forests and abundant life, the Carboniferous era was not without challenges. Periodic ice ages and climatic fluctuations led to several mass extinction events, reshaping the ecosystem and driving the evolution of new species.
🌍 The Legacy of the Carboniferous Era 🌿
Today, we can still see traces of the Carboniferous era in the form of coal deposits, which were formed from the accumulation of plant matter in the swampy forests. These coal deposits have played a significant role in shaping human history and industrialization.
Conclusion:
The Carboniferous era paints a vivid picture of Earth's ancient past, a time when giant insects and lush forests dominated the landscape. It reminds us of the ever-changing nature of our planet and the incredible diversity of life that has thrived throughout its history.
🌿🦕 Explore the wonders of the Carboniferous era and journey back in time to witness the reign of giant insects! 🦗🌍

ExtinctionEvent: Private Banks Tighten Vigil On Small Unsecured Loans | Mumbai News - Times of India
MUMBAI: Small loans may turn out to be a big worry for banks. Some lenders are seeing stress rise in small-ticket unsecured personal loans as borrowers with low incomes find it hard to repay dues. RBI has flagged concerns over an increase in unsecured loans. While Yes Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank said delinquencies are higher than last year, ICICI Bank has said that borrowers who are falling…

The day that the dinosaurs died 66 million years ago marked the end of the Cretaceous. A large asteroid ☄️ 6-9 miles wide slammed into the Earth near modern day Yucatan Peninsula. . The impact caused tidal waves that created shallow seas north (swipe), and glass droplets 💧 rained from the sky when vaporized rock condensed and fell back to the surface. . Analysis of fossils from Tanis, North Dakota (top) reveal that fish 🐟 such as sturgeon and paddlefish were still alive when the impact occurred since microtektites formed from the ejecta were concentrated in their gills. . And the asteroid? It vaporized also, and most of it settled as the iridium layer in the soil that marks the end of the Cretaceous and the beginning of the Paleogene during which mammals and eventually humans flourished. . “ sitting around moping isn’t doing any good. ” - Remy
the former apostle sits and contemplates his options. many people have perished this day but how to avoid it in the future? surely the highwaymen have to be stopped. they need to be dealt with and paul will stop at nothing to keep the people of this county from experiencing what his brothers put them through all over again. so he sits. he thinks, but apparently he comes off as moping. it only serves to make him huff a sigh of air. “if you have any bright ideas, remy, i’m all ears.”

The northwestern part of the Deccan Plateau in India (a large plateau in the west and south of the country) contains large amounts of igneous rocks and lava flows that is known as the Deccan Traps (bottom panels). . Forming around 66.25 million years ago, some theories suggest that it is possible that these volcanic features started or increased in activity due to the Chicxulub impact event in North America that occurred around the same time 66 million years ago. . Since both of these events occur at antipodes (locations directly opposite each other on Earth), the impact shockwave reverberated to the other side of the planet causing increased volcanic activity due to deformation of continental plates. . Thus, it is likely that the subsequent release of toxic gases and sulfur that led to global cooling, both contributed to the extinction event in addition to the vast amounts of heat and dust that was released by the original impact. . Happy Wednesday!!!
I hope you’re all having a fantastic week so far! If it’s not been so great, hang in there!! We’re halfway to the end. :)
My quietness is not intentional this week, it’s just been a bit hectic at work and researching some things in the evening (going to Florida in December to chill with @aarontwds, woo woo!). Hopefully this weekend I’ll be a little more active here and on my new multi-muse blog. Feel free to follow me there at @extinctionevent!! It’s full of OCs. Well.. I say full... There’s like 3.... but I digress.
Have a wonderful Wednesday, folks!! Take care of yourself and each other.
