We still use the same pot I used in grad. school; the lid doesn't quite fit right (nothing noticable; the metal that lips out doesn't meet flush with the top of the pot, though; 'could be negligible) so I always put the 26 oz. container of salt on top, just to make sure.

And someone would always pipe up to mention that this would be much easier and more assured with a rice cooker; have I ever used one, before?

But I don't want to use a rice cooker; I want to make it the way my parents and my grandmother made this dish from my childhood, in a pot and on a stove. Using the same few directions I managed to pry out of my mother before I moved out, so I can walk into the kitchen to the same imagery on the stove.

Well, the salt on top is new; but, you know; new generations, new traditions.
