Code Name: The Wyoming Incident

Object Class: Neutralized

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-AEJ has not been reported since its manifestation. Furthermore, those responsible were apprehended but eventually died as a result of the incident. As such, the chances of it happening again and low, but just to be safe, the Telecommunications Monitoring Office - Internet Division and Broadcast Division are to alert Foundation administrative staff in the event of SCP-AEJ or something similar happening again.

Description: SCP-AEJ was an incident where several TV stations were hacked by cyber terrorists determined to cause chaos for laughs. However, what they displayed was not disgusting or disturbing imagery, though it did appear as such, but in reality, was much worse. It's unknown exactly how, but the hackers were able to obtain rejected memetic images created by Group of Interest: PENTAGRAM.

For those that don't know, PENTAGRAM is a division of the United States Department of Defense. While the FBI: UIU was created to investigate anomalous threats within the US, PENTAGRAN was made specifically to combat anomalous threats to the ALL of the US. It has been approved of existence by the SCP Foundation and is funded by the Global Occult Coalition. Unfortunately, PENTAGRAM is not as protected as either organization and thus, was how this situation happened.

The hackers obtained the memetics which were rejected because they failed to do as PENTAGRAM wanted. Instead of proper brainwashing or memory wipe; they often causing seizers, headaches, stroke, nausea, and other forms of mental deterioration. These symptoms easily got worse as time went on often leading to their bodies flying in the air while they entered a comatose state, their eyes glowing in a blinding light, their skin suddenly rotting out of nowhere, or their heads just bloating until they explode. It should be noted that anomalous symptoms are always a risk with exposure to multiple memetics in a short period of time. It's for this reason why memetic training and therapy, though effective, is considered dangerous as it can overload the brain and damage it beyond repair.

SCP-AEJ was discovered in 2006 within [data expunged], [data expunged], [data expunged], and a few other cities, all of which are in Wyoming. The event nearly led to an MK Class Broken Masquerade Scenario had the Foundation not reacted in time.

Mobile Task Force Dionysus-1 "Fake News" was entrusted to feed the media a story of a sudden outbreak of a new pathogen within the state of Wyoming. Afterwards Mobile Task Force Gamma-5 "Red Herrings" was deployed to distribute amnestics to anyone who wasn't affected but witness the incident. Meanwhile Foundation agents and MTF units disguised as CDC agents found those who were affected and used amnestic treatment on those that could be saved and quarantined the rest. The hackers involved in the incident suffered the same fate as those who saw the broadcasting of the amnestics. They were used as test subjects to see how to properly subside and even reverse the effects before actual treatment was taken to the affected public. This action was approved by the Ethics Committee, "A fitting punishment" in their own words.

The cover story worked with the public believing those that could be saved were cured and those that were mutated were killed by the plague. The incident was unfortunately known forever in history as "The Wyoming Ghost Plague" or as "The Wyoming Incident". Though the Foundation can take pride in knowing that no civilian will ever know the true nature of the SCP-AEJ incident.

Side Note: PENTAGRAM vouched to the ACPA council to take responsibility for the SCP-AEJ incident. However, the ACPA did not listen with Foundation representatives even claiming, "a lesser organization cannot be expected to handle such consequences". Just words but considered quite the insult to those in the anomalous world that desire to protect the interests and innocence of the public.

Since Stickmintober 2024 [codenamed as Operation Deathund] is going to begin in at least 2 days, I decided to create a personal debriefing lore regarding this event.

"I just got word from the O5 Council that they are planning to reintiate Operation Deathund once again, meaning that massive incursions will happen until the end of October itself, so here's a report on what's gonna happen to these factions and how are they planning to play a major role in this event.

Our Government allies of the 560th Marine Battalion are led by Gen. H. Galeforce is currently being trained by the newly integrated forces of the 77th Infantry Regiment and the 94th Armoured Corps of the MTF Nu-7 Divison along with contingents from other MTF squadrons just in case any anomalous scenarios arise after being inspired by the prowess of MTF Alpha-60 since their unification.

Meanwhile, our scouts report that even the Insurgency forces, most made up of both CIs and Toppats, are also prepping for the major event happening soon, with their new strike team codenamed "Nemesis" already deciding when they'll strike soon.

For our Coalition allies, which is both made up of the GOC and the CCC, I have just received word from some contacts, mostly some old friends that Sgt. Miller used to have, are already planning to supply experimental weaponry and equipment to some of us, with the CCC recording any signs of "chaos incidents" so that they could rely on our support if the time arises.

As for the Wall, they weren't planning to get involved in this mess, but they will compensate us if we plan to detain certain HVT for them.

Other factions like the Serpent's Hand, the FBI-UIU, along with multiple other GoIs will rarely get involved in this scenario, but their skills will be needed soon in some certain missions.

Frank Castle (Punisher) would be a POI in the Broken Masquerade, not necessarily qualified as an SCP but is important enough for the heroes and Foundation alike.

Also, would SHIELD be a branch of the Foundation or an organisation of their own? I bet they have very frequent collaborations with each other.

In regards with SHIELD, within SCP: HMF is a rebranding of PENTAGRAM and (at least in my version) PENTAGRAM was provided funding by the Global Occult Coalition (the UN). Therefore, SHIELD is its own organization but does occasionally answer to the GOC because if they don't then there goes the funding. The Avengers is technically their own GoI too but are provided similar support form SHIELD kind of like a succession kind of deal with the GOC at the very top.

Also, not as important but since PENTAGRAM (again in my version) owned the FBI: UIU that means SHIELD owns them now. Kinda a flex since, despite how disorganized the FBI: UIU is, they do have one of the best prisons in the multiverse.

As for the Foundation, since Bruce Wayne is a secret supporter of the Foundation, the Foundation in turn supported the creation of the Justice League.

In conclusion, like I said Broken Masquerade is going to be fucking chaos.

Sloane McPherson of the UIU (Underwater Investigative Unit) is a police diver called into assist with recovering a body from a just-sunk car in Pond 65, haunt of Big Bill, a vast and ill-tempered alligator. By necessity, it’s a quick job, but while evading Big Bill, Sloane spots a sunken van. Something bothers her about it enough to push for the van’s recovery… and when four bodies are found in the back, Sloane can’t quite let the case go.

Soon enough, links start to appear to other cases, and it becomes apparent the UIU might be on the trail of a serial killer… one who’s been operating with impunity in the Everglades for thirty years. Of course the FBI come in to take over the case… but Sloan can’t quite put her finger on what’s nagging at her. Something’s not right, and she can’t just walk away.

Sloan’s a fascinating character and there are a host of intriguing supporting characters, from her maverick boss George to her treasure-hunting family. This is apparently the second book in the series, and I’m pretty sure I’ve missed a lot of character background, but I didn’t have any issue keeping up with the main storyline here as it’s a complete (and riveting) arc. Sloan’s personal life is just side colour.

I’ve visited the Everglades a couple of times and Mayne has really captured them here, the lushness and the menace, the wildness of them sometimes just metres away from civilization. Miami is here in all its glory; yachts worth hundreds of millions and trailer parks where sex offenders congregate. Sloan is fascinating because she moves just as comfortably in both places - which is to say, just as aware danger might come from the person right next to you.

I really enjoyed this. Sloan is hyper-competent but far from infallible, and aware she still has a great deal to learn about investigative work. This is a very different type of police procedural - I don’t think I’ve ever read one from the point of view of a police diver before - and I’m absolutely hooked. I’m going to go back and read the first in the series, and I’ll be looking out for the next one too. Five stars.

Still want to do a post of "SCP Foundation for Control fans: an intro" but I don't want it to end up being the same 10 SCPs that usually get recc'd you know

Like 173 (the statue / "Peanut") has to be on there because it was the inspiration for the Fridge, but I *don't* want 682 or the Plague Doctor because those are *not* in line with Control's tone. The skips in such a list I feel should be heavy on the Safe & Euclid, not a lot of Keter, and generally *short* entries.

My big weakness is Tales -- I don't read a lot of Tales, so it's much harder for me to think of Tales or Canons that I'd rec for Control fans. With one exception, and that's Antimemetics Division, because up until all hell breaks loose with that, I think it fits the tone of Control, especially with the doubting of reality & the threat being very Hiss-like.

And, again, this isn't "ugh SCP did it first/better" because it didn't. SCP itself owes a lot to the X-Files and *everything* to the old 4-Chan Creepypasta boards; Control was inspired by the Foundation but *also* House of Leaves, the Area X Trilogy, and also the X-Files. This is more, "if you liked Control and want more similar fiction, here's the SCP Foundation stuff that will most appeal to you."

For GOI groups: NO to Serpent's Hand, most of the weird religious groups (Mekhanite, Sarkic, 5th Church, etc), & the more overtly magical ones, much as I love them.

YES to the UIU, some GOC. The UIU is the closest thing in the Foundation-verse to the FBC. For SCP fans (... Too many acronyms, lol), the Federal Bureau of Control is as if the Foundation were solely a US government agency. For Control fans, in the SCP universe the FBI's Unusual Incidents Unit is more like the X-Files -- small, underfunded, nobody listens to them. Basically we want Mysterious Govt & NGOs Putting Stuff in Boxes.

AWCY?, Gamers Against Weed, Dr Wondertainment, The Factory -- much of the Weird Stuff in Control are smaller objects, items, and art -- floppy disk that gives you telekinesis, teleporting rubber duck, evil mannequin. These guys tend to deal in items of that nature. Avoid Little Misters nonsense.

Wilson's Wildlife Solutions -- mmmmaybe. On the one hand they're annoyingly cutesy and iirc more tied to Serpent's Hand ish magic stuff, BUT Pacific Northwest Shenanigans is very Alan Wake-y.
