Following the June 7 release of the latest federal jobs report — which showed that employment increased by 272,000 jobs in May, far more than the expectations of 180,000 jobs — many right-wing commentators responded by denouncing the job creation witnessed during the Biden administration for mostly going to “foreign-born workers” versus “native-born.” In some cases, these commentators indirectly or even explicitly referred to the racist “great replacement” conspiracy theory, a white nationalist belief that immigration is being used to intentionally decrease the share of white people in the total population to benefit a left-wing political agenda. What these right-wing conspiracy theorists overlooked in their complaints about job growth among “foreign-born” workers is that nearly half of that group are already American citizens, while millions more are lawful permanent residents who legally work in the United States.

Conservatives denigrated the positive jobs report by highlighting job gain for foreign-born workers

Multiple right-wing media personalities, conservative outlets, and even Republican officials criticized the jobs report for showing gains by foreign-born workers and losses for native-born workers. On its @GOP account on X (formerly known as Twitter), the Republican National Committee posted: “Employment for native-born American workers fell by 663,000 last month per today’s jobs report.” Heritage Foundation economist E.J. Antoni wrote: “No wonder Americans view economy so terribly: they aren't the ones w/ the jobs; native-born employment is not only millions below pre-pandemic trend, but even below pre-pandemic level, while millions more foreign workers are employed today than Feb '20, and back to trend.” Antoni later added, “All of the net job growth over the last year has gone to foreign-born workers, (a category which the Labor Dept. admits includes illegal aliens) while native-born Americans have lost a net 300k jobs.” Other responses were more explicit in connecting the jobs report numbers to immigration policy. Breitbart posted: “Border remains open, jobs report exceeds expectations. Simple as.” Former Fox News producer Kyle Becker wrote: “Where are Americans' jobs going? The Foreign Born. Illegal aliens literally ‘took our jobs.’” And MAGA strategist Alex Bruesewitz wrote: “Biden continues to put illegals ahead of Americans.”

“America may soon be subjected to the country’s first DEI president: Kamala Harris,” screamed the headline of an op-ed in The New York Post on Saturday penned by Fox Business senior correspondent Charles Gasparino. The longtime media figure began his article by slamming Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) programs as “literally destroying businesses.” Gasparino then took aim at the vice president, writing that “the American public may soon be subjected to DEI writ large in the next president of the United States, if Kamala Harris finds her way to the top of the Democratic ticket.” Gasparino’s suggestion that Harris only got to where she is because of diversity programs — not because she earned it — is despicable. It reeks of the white supremacist myth that people of color are inherently inferior to white people and, therefore, we achieve success and positions of influence not on the merits, but only with the help of a diversity program. (I once was called a “quota hire” years ago on social media by a Fox News frequent guest because at the time I was the first Muslim hired to host a national radio show.)

Gasparino’s use of “DEI hire” apparently to demean the achievements of a person of color is far from the first time we’ve seen this. In fact, just last week, GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado took a page from this same vile playbook in a social media post attacking White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. Boebert — who in the past suggested that Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, who is Muslim, was a terrorist — was apparently upset with Jean-Pierre’s comments about Biden’s workday being many hours longer than she believed to be true, so she smeared her as a “discredited DEI hire.” Earlier this year, the same DEI-as-insult line was used to attack the Black mayor of Baltimore, Brandon Scott, after the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse. Scott responded to the smears by stating, “We know what these folks really want to say when they say ‘DEI mayor’.” He added bluntly, “They really want to say the N-word.” The mayor later gloriously trolled the bigots, telling MSNBC that the acronym “DEI” actually stands for “duly-elected incumbent.”

[...] There’s no hiding what’s intended with these types of attacks. In fact, Gasparino was not shy on this point, writing Harris was only picked by Biden as his running mate in 2020 because as a Black woman she “checked all the boxes.” Never mind the fact that Harris had been a public servant for more than 16 years at the time: first as an elected district attorney of San Francisco, and later as the elected attorney general for the state of California, where she oversaw the largest state justice department in the country. In that office, she successfully secured billions of dollars in damages from unscrupulous businesses that had preyed on Californians. Nor does it matter to her detractors that Harris was then elected to the US Senate in 2016, where she made a name for herself with her service on the Judiciary and Intelligence committees. Nope, Gasparino apparently attributes her many achievements to her being given preferential treatment because of her race and gender. He predicted that if President Joe Biden ends up remaining on the 2024 ticket and wins, it’s unlikely he would physically be able to serve four years. The result, he says, is that “Harris becomes the nation’s first DEI president by default.” Of course, none of what Gasparino said was written in a vacuum. It’s in keeping with efforts by Republicans to try to discredit both the achievements by people of color as well as efforts to address our nation’s past acts of racism and racial discrimination. That’s been evident for months, as GOP-led legislatures rush to enact laws restricting and even outlawing DEI programs in education, state government, contracting, pension investments and other aspects of civic life.

Dean Obeidallah wrote on CNN’s website calling out the racist attack of labeling Vice President Kamala Harris a “DEI hire” by Fox Business reporter and New York Post contributor Charles Gasparino. The “DEI hire” line said by right-wingers like Gasparino is nothing more than vile racism.

Mert nincsenek barátai

Egyszer egy ismerősöm, aki állandóan az exét supportálta, a kérdésemre, hogy miért teszi, hiszen a nőnek van férje, vannak felnőtt, családos gyerekei, miért ő az akit ugráltat, azt válaszolta, hogy mert szegénynek nincsenek barátai. De hát vannak, látható, hogy vannak, olyan rekaciókat kap FBn amiből nyilvánvaló, hogy az közeli ismeretség, barátság. Azok nem olyan barátok! Oké. Amúgy nem az én dolgom. Van egy véleményem a meg nem dolgozott szakításokról meg a könnyen szerzett lovagi érdemekről is, de amúgy nem az én dolgom, pláne a faszom fog veszekedni amikor a másik ellenáll annak, hogy más oldalról is megnézzen valamit. A legjobb barát ex nehezen megfogható módon, de kárt okoz az új kapcsolatban mindkét félnek.

Le is szarnám én ezt a régi történetet, ha a barátnőm sztorijában nem került volna elő egy hasonló. A barátnőm nulla féltékenységet képes érezni, hihetetlenül egészségesen kezeli a kapcsolatait, a konfliktusokat kapcsolaton belül igyekszik megoldani. Nem gyanakszik, nem korlátoz, nem feltételez rosszat. Nem azért mert hülye vagy naiv, hanem mert nem terheli magát ilyesmivel. Így lehetett, hogy a válása után 2 hónappal a férje már össze is jött a kolléganőjével és egy éven belül gyerekük is lett. – Te, nem lehet, hogy ezek már nézegették egymást korábban is vagy akár viszonyuk is volt? – kérdeztem tőle. – De, lehet – válaszolta és megvonta a vállát. Én ettől biztos megőrülnék, hogy raktam bele a kapcsolatba az időt meg az energiát, akartam javítani, megbeszélni, stb, stb és kiderül, hogy a társam már rég másfelé leli az örömét és hiába csináltam mindent. Jó, nem őrülnék meg, de kéne idő amíg feldolgozom és amíg lejövök az érzésről, hogy a jó kurva anyját. Nade nem is erről a csávóról van szó, hanem a következőről. Hogy annak is van egy ilyen supportált exe. És a dolog már a nem féltékenykedő, nem irigykerdő barátnőmet is zavarja. Mert ő kér valamit (lécci, szereld fel, lécci vedd meg, lécci intézd el), akkor vár és vár és vár. Ez a fantasztikus FÉRFI, ez annyira top, hogy tud adni másnak is. De ami jár az jár. A kapcsolat előnyt kell élvezzen, a partnerem igényei előnyt kell élvezzenek, akár férfi vagyok, akár nő. Mert az nem járja, hogy alátolok a másiknak mindent és ő meg az így nyert energiát máshova viszi. Mert ott van hála. Otthon meg nincs. Mert otthon alap, hogy megcsinálod, ahogy alap, hogy a másik is megcsinál rengeteg mindent. Neked könnyű – mondja a pasi – mert ez meg az... (Csupa olyan dolog amiért a csaj keményen megdolgozott), de szegény ex... hát annak kurva nehéz.

Olyan konfliktusok melegágya ez amiről napokat lehetne beszélni, mert a jéghegy csúcsánál elakad mindenki. Hát miért ne lehetnének barátok az exszel???? Micsoda undorító féltékenység ez! Aki pedig élt meg hasonlót, az hallgat, mert már tudja, hogy nem lehet igaza, mert a valódi mélysége a dolognak nehezen megfogalmazható önmagunk megalázása nélkül. Mert vagy szolgának, megalkuvónak, vagy hülyének, vagy hisztisnek, birtoklónak, féltékenynek fogunk tűnni. És ami a fontos, nem csak exszel és nem csak másneművel van ez a probléma. Hogy viszik ki az időt, energiát figyelmet szeretetet a kapcsolatból, hogy valahol máshol elismerést szerezzenek, mert az valahogy értékesebb, mint az otthoni. Gyerek lovagok ezek az emberek. Tulajdonképpen önzők a maguk gyerekes módján. És semmit sem értenek vagy akarnak érteni, amikor elhagyják őket. Amúgy, valójában arról akartam írni, hogy mit takar az, hogy valakinek nincsenek barátai. Miért nincsenek, és miféle ütőkártya ez a mondat. De nem az akart ma megíródni.
