Bentley Motorsport will contest a specially prepared Continental GT at the 2020 GP Ice Race in Zell am See. Following on from Bentley’s recent history of setting Ice Speed Records in 2007 and 2011, the W12-powered Continental GT is ready to continue Bentley’s heritage of high performance on ice at the spectacular showcase event in Austria across the weekend of 1/2 February 2020.
The Ice Race Continental GT will be running in livery that pays homage to its record-breaking compatriot from the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in 2019 and shares the same factory built W12 twin-turbocharged TSI engine. The 6.0-litre unit delivers 635 PS (626 bhp), 900 Nm (664 lb.ft.) , a 0-100 km/h time of 3.7 seconds (0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds) and a top speed of 333 km/h (207 mph). The car’s three chamber air springs, 48V active anti-roll control system and iron brakes are entrusted with the cool running of the Bentley Continental GT on the purpose-built ice track. Junior World Rally Championship driver Catie Munnings will take to the wheel of the Bentley Continental GT in Zell am See. The FIA European Rally Championship Ladies Trophy winner, former host of the CBeebies television program Catie's Amazing Machines and daughter of former rally driver Chris Munnings will be the first female driver of the modern era to competitively race for Bentley Motorsport. “The opportunity to race with Bentley at Zell am See is one that I couldn’t miss. I’m completely blown away by the car, and I actually still can’t believe I’m getting let loose in a Bentley to do an ice race. I spent some time on ice in the car just before Christmas. At first I thought it would feel heavy, but I was amazed by how dynamic, nimble and responsive it is. It can dance like a lightweight rally car, and I can’t wait to race it at such an iconic event“
The car has been kept as close to production standard as possible, with minimal changes for safety compliance including a rear roll cage, on-board fire suppression system, racing seats and harnesses. Modifications beyond standard include an increase to the the nominal ride height to give greater ground clearance, arch extensions to accommodate a 15 mm increase in track width, studded Pirelli Scorpion tires, a brace of Lazer high performance lights and a custom exhaust system from Akrapovic, manufacturers of the bespoke exhaust for the Continental GT. The roof will features a bespoke rack, fitted with a pair of Bomber for Bentley Centenary Edition skis.
Consisting of two days of motorsport in unpredictable conditions, the GP Ice Race is the next chapter for Bentley who have a long tradition of testing its cars to the extreme. First run in 1937 and revived last year, the event features an array of historic and modern race and rally cars. The weekend sees drivers compete in various vehicle categories over a 600m frozen racetrack carved from the snow, and involves two tests – standard racing, and an exhibition of skijoring. Skijoring is a competition whereby a skier is towed by a car over a track of snow and ice, and dates back to the Olympic Winter Games 1928 in St. Moritz, when skiers were drawn by riderless horses. Bentley’s 2020 version will feature skier Sven Rauber and considerably more horsepower.

Ministerstvo školství, mládeže a tělovýchovy zatím nerozdělilo dotace klubům na motoristický sport na rok 2020
 „Cítíme svoji povinnost být s těmi, kdo se ocitli v nouzi, je to naše krédo, pokud jde o motoristy, a nyní i všechny občany,“ uvádí prezident Ústředního automotoklubu ČR JUDr. Oldřich Vaníček. Právě proto na vlastní náklady automotoklub poskytl svoje call centrum, aby jeho operátoři nepřetržitě 24 hodin zodpovídali dotazy, radili a pomáhali na telefonním čísle 1234. Pomoc míří všem, kdo si neví rady a hledají informace v souvislosti s koronavirem. „Považujeme za samozřejmost, že pomáháme všem za této mimořádné situace, v níž jsme se ocitli,“ pokračuje prezident ÚAMK JUDr. Oldřich Vaníček.
Ovšem jak samotný ÚAMK, tak i jeho pobočné spolky vyžadují urychlenou pomoc při řešení tristní finanční situace. ÚAMK každoročně pořádá dlouhou řadu sportovních akcí, včetně těch nejvýznamnějších jako jsou: KOWAX Valašská Rally VALMEZ a Rallye Český Krumlov, což jsou obě soutěže v rámci FIA European Rally Trophy – Central Rally Trophy, Mistrovství Evropy v závodech aut do vrchu Ecce Homo ve Šternberku, Olympijská kvalifikace a EP v bikrosu atd. Jejich příprava, i kdyby se akce nekonaly, již stála nemalé finanční prostředky. Část nákladů na organizování těchto akcí měla být hrazena hlavně prostředky obdržen��mi v rámci výzvy Významné sportovní akce 2020.
Prezident ÚAMK JUDr. Oldřich Vaníček se tedy musí za ÚAMK a všechny jeho pobočné sportovní spolky Ministerstva školství, mládeže a tělovýchovy ČR ptát: Jak to dopadne s touto výzvou? Kdy budou rozděleny a uvolněny prostředky, které jsou tak nezbytné doslova pro pouhou existenci jak těchto významných sportovních akcí, tak i pro život klubů provozujících motorové i nemotorové sporty, klubů v místech po celé České republice?
Situace ÚAMK a jeho pobočných spolků je na rozdíl o některých dalších sportovních odvětví ještě o to složitější, že automotoklub nedostal hlavní dotace ani v minulém roce. „Bez přehánění mohu říci, že jsme v kritické situaci a hrozí to, že mnoho našich pobočných spolků, které se již musely zadlužit v minulém roce, nemůže bez velmi rychlé finanční podpory přežít,“ uzavírá prezident ÚAMK JUDr. Oldřich Vaníček.
Jistě, všichni prožíváme velmi těžké chvíle při boji s koronavirem a musíme se přizpůsobit mimořádné situaci, ale stejně jako stát směřuje ekonomickou pomoc těm nejohroženějším podnikatelům například v odvětví stravování, cestovního ruchu a podobně, nesmí zapomenout ani na sport. ÚAMK nežádá pro sebe nějakou výjimku, mimořádnou ohleduplnost, ale jen urychlené vyřízení žádostí o dotace v rámci Výzvy organizace sportu 2020 – Celostátní sportovní organizace – motoristický a letecký sport. Tedy žádá, aby ministerstvo konalo a konalo rychle, protože jinak mohou být následky pro řadu sportovců i klubů dalekosáhlé. Aby ministerstvo konalo stejně rychle a vstřícně, jako to udělal ÚAMK ve spolupráci se skupinou Prima v případě zprovoznění mimořádné linky 1234 a dalších kroků, kdy jsou odborníci a technika ÚAMK využity na pomoc při řešení mimořádné situace.
Prezident ÚAMK JUDr. Oldřich Vaníček je přesvědčen, že stát, potažmo Ministerstvo školství, mládeže a tělovýchovy ČR urychleně rozhodne a uvolní prostředky, aby motoristický sport a sportovní kluby žily i po skončení současné mimořádné situace. „Chceme přece, abychom se znovu vrátili ke své práci, mohli znovu žít jako před zásahem koronaviru, a to si nelze představit bez sportu,“ konstatuje prezident ÚAMK JUDr. Oldřich Vaníček.
Call centrum ÚAMK, na které běžně míří dotazy motoristů, je od tohoto momentu připraveno pomoci všem, kdo si neví rady a hledají informace v souvislosti s koronavirem, mimořádnou situací, v níž jsme se všichni ocitli. Zkušení operátoři call centra, které je v provozu nepřetržitě 24 hodin, už teď zodpovídají dotazy každému volajícímu na čísle 1234.
Unikátní, dobře zapamatovatelné číslo 1234 poskytl ÚAMK ve spolupráci se TV Prima. Snahou ÚAMK a skupiny Prima je pomoci všem, kdo si v dané mimořádné situaci nevědí rady, potřebují pomoc, informace nebo jen prosté lidské pochopení.
Proč ÚAMK? Nejen, že call centrum má všechny potřebné technické parametry a moderní IP technologie, je schopno v jeden a tentýž okamžik přijmout až 180 telefonních hovorů, ale hlavně má schopné a zkušené operátory. Ti jsou zvyklí po celý rok nepřetržitě 24 hodin řešit problémy motoristů, ať se stanou kdekoliv, a poradit s celou řadou problémů. Že umějí podat pomocnou ruku a stát se zdrojem informací i při mimořádných situacích dokázali již dvakrát při povodních, které v roce 2002 a 20012 zasáhly naši republiku. V nejfrekventovanější den řešili téměř 18 tisíc hovorů. ÚAMK cítí zcela přirozeně povinnost pomoci i za dnešní situace.

Opel remains loyal to its long and successful history in motor sport. The German brand will compete again on national and international rally stages during the coming season.
In 2019 Opel Motorsport aims to claim its fifth successive victory in the European junior rally championship for drivers up to 27 years of age, which has now been officially renamed the FIA ERC3 Junior Championship. One of the 190hp ADAM R2 cars entered by Opel technology-partner, Holzer Motorsport, will be driven by Swede Elias Lundberg (20), who secured the drive in the ADAC Opel Rallye Junior Team by winning last year’s ADAC Opel Rallye Cup. A second car will be piloted by Grégoire Munster from Luxemburg (20), who finished second to Lundberg in last season’s Rallye Cup, taking three victories.
With 130 participants from 18 countries, Europe’s most successful brand rally trophy has offered a professional platform for young drivers since 2013, bringing eight young talents into the ADAC Opel Rally Junior Team.
“We have been making cars for 120 years and motor sport has always formed Opel’s image – it should stay that way,” said Opel CEO, Michael Lohscheller. “Two aspects are particularly important to us – the fascination with technology and approachability for fans and customers. The promotion of young drivers is also high on our agenda. The combination with the long established structure at PSA Motorsport opens great additional opportunities for us.”
For the 2021 season, Opel will thus develop an R2 car based on the next Corsa for the European championship, as well as for international customer sport. The technical details of the Corsa R2, which should become available for private teams at the end of 2020, will be announced at a later date. The sixth generation of the bestselling Corsa, which comes onto the market this year, will form the basis of the rally car.
Opel will continue to support the ADAC Rallye Cup in 2019 with the 140 hp Cup-version of the ADAM and with the attractive proposition of a spares package for the next season for the winner. Opel will also offer all Cup participants an on-site technical and logistics service plus a starter-pack for new entrants.

2017 season assessment
Every year my season reviews get shorter, and this third one may be my last on this blog. Not because my interest in racing is waning, far from it, but I haven’t been reporting it as much. So here’s a brief overview of this year’s action, that I’ve either watched or listened to, in full or in part.
World Endurance Championship. It was tight between Toyota and Porsche this year, and the inevitable happened: team orders arrived immediately after the chequered flag fell at Le Mans. It’s hard to sympathise with Nick Tandy when he said he was “looking for that elusive win” in a S365 column, after his crew had given at least two away to the sister car. Upon reading that the Nürburgring result had been fixed, I decided not to waste my time on any of the remaining rounds, even after the titles were wrapped up in China. The WEC now enters a period of transition. Toyota is the only remaining manufacturer in P1, but privateer interest is building back up. BMW is coming to GTE. The upcoming “Super Season” is not really “super” - it’s still 8 races, only drawn out over 15 months instead of 9. Future seasons will conclude with the Le Mans 24 Hours - cue team orders ruining the only saving grace of the season? Le Mans 2017 was amazing, but I’m not going to let that haul the grade up for a championship that I quickly lost interest in on the whole. It’s time to make a stand and downgrade the WEC to a mediocre C.
European Le Mans Series & IMSA SportsCar Championship. At the continental level, however, sportscar racing has produced some good stuff. In Europe, there were 3 chassis entered in LM P2, and all won a race. In America, the DPi formula successfully mixed spec P2s and gorgeous designs, and the competition got better throughout the year as IMSA got the BoP between the two types right. I enjoyed these series. Both earn an B+.
SRO GT and Super GT. These two have been the star championships of the past two seasons, and 2017 is no different. The SRO GT Series delivered its usual tension in both Sprint and Endurance formats, and the Super GT championship may have seen Lexus romp away with the first four rounds, but Honda and Nissan did make progress, showing what’s possible when you give factories room for development. A+ again, and I’m considering a visit to the Spa 24 Hours in 2018.
World Touring Car Championship & TCR International Series. Well, the WTCC didn’t make it past the winter. No new manufacturers on the horizon made the TC1 class unsustainable. As a result, the championship merges with the TCR International Series for 2018 to create the FIA WTCR World Touring Car Cup. The final WTCC was still worth a peek, with Thed Björk and Volvo springing shock title victories against the favourites, Honda. It, and the TCR Series, can be rated a solid B.
World Rally Championship. Following Volkswagen’s withdrawal, which shuffled the driver market up, and new aero regulations, I expected the WRC to improve. And it did, to the point where I got genuinely excited to listen in to the final stages of rallies. All four top teams won, and several drivers got their emotional first victories. Sure, Sébastien Ogier won the title again, but this was after transferring to underdogs M-Sport and having to count on consistency more than ever. 2018 promises to be as tense as this year, with great talent spread across the four factory entries, so don’t miss Rallye Monte Carlo late January. The WRC gets an emphatic A.

Estos son solo alguno de los alicientes con los que acaba de tomar la salida la edición número 54 del Rally Princesa de Asturias Ciudad de Oviedo, que se celebrará hasta el sábado, 16 de septiembre, y en la que participan casi 170 pilotos, que tendrán que completar 12 tramos cronometrados.
El último, una de las novedades de esta edición, será el urbano de Oviedo/Uviéu, que cruzará el barrio de La Florida. La mejora de la aplicación estrenada el año pasado, disponible para dispositivos Apple y Android, permitirá a los aficionados notificar a la dirección de carrera, en tiempo real, cualquier incidencia. La app –Rally Princesa de Asturias- consigue que los seguidores tengan el rally en su mano, con toda la información actualizada.
La ceremonia de salida ha tenido lugar en La Losa, de Oviedo, que estaba abarrotada de público. Previamente, dos pilotos, Iván Ares y Cristian García, han compartido con el público asistente su visión sobre esta edición, las expectativas con las que comienzan la competición y también su opinión sobre el recorrido.
Completan las listas de inscritos los del V Gr. A Legend Rally, distribuidos en WRC, Kit Car, Grupo A 90, Grupo A80 y Grupo B.
A continuación, se ha celebrado el acto oficial, que ha contado con la presencia de la concejala de Deportes del Ayuntamiento de Oviedo, Mercedes González; y el presidente de la Real Federación Española de Automovilismo (RFEA), Miguel Aviñó.
Información práctica
Hay 169 vehículos inscritos en las distintas categorías para las que el Rally es puntuable. Existen tres listas de inscritos. La primera suma a los participantes en el Trofeo Europeo de Rallys de la FIA, el FIA European Rally Trophy y FIA Iberian Rally Trophy y a los del Campeonato de España de Rallys de Asfalto (CERA). Destacan los R5, los Clío R3T Iberia Trophy, los de la Copa Suzuki Swift y los de la Dacia Sandero Cup. Todos los que se están jugando algo en las copas y trofeos del CERA estarán presentes en la prueba.
La segunda lista es la del denominado Certamen Autonómico, incluyendo los del Trofeo LeMans Center y los de la Automóviles Quintana Cup.
Seguridad
La organización, como cada año, ha hecho un esfuerzo en materia de seguridad y reclama la colaboración de todos los espectadores, para que sigan todas las pautas que ayudan a disfrutar de un rally sin incidentes. Esto implica ser puntuales, aparcar siempre fuera del recorrido, jamás desplazarse por el trazado con la carrera ya iniciada, seguir siempre las instrucciones de los voluntarios y organizadores y tratarles con respeto y educación (sin ellos, no sería posible este deporte), situarse en lugares elevados, evitando las zonas potencialmente peligrosas; llevar bolsas para recoger la basura y, también, mantener la precaución y la prudencia en la conducción tanto cuando se vaya a los tramos como de vuelta a casa.
