1. Fourth Planet from the Sun
Mars, often called the “Red Planet” due to its reddish appearance, is the fourth planet from the sun in our solar system. Its distinct color is a result of iron oxide, or rust, covering its surface.
2. Varied Martian Terrain
Mars boasts diverse terrain, including vast deserts, towering volcanoes, and deep canyons. The largest volcano in the solar system, Olympus…
Canonically speaking, jc' reaction to someone he doesn't like/has strong negative feelings towards, because that person was a jerk to his sister, is to regulate his emotions according to how his sister feels. In a jyl lives au, after wwx's return, canon jc is going to his sister, saying something like: 'while I think we should throw at least a cup of tea at him because he left us you and a-ling like that, it's your choice, jin zixuan was your husband. What are we feeling now, jiejie?'
Blue-Ringed Octopus: They are one of the world's most venomous marine animals. Despite their small size, 5 to 8 in. and relatively docile nature, they are very dangerous if provoked when handled because their venom contains a powerful neurotoxin called tetrodotoxin. The blue-ringed octopus carries enough venom to kill 26 adult humans within minutes. Their bites are tiny and often painless, with many victims not realizing they have been envenomated until respiratory depression and paralysis begins. No blue-ringed octopus antivenom is available.
So the knight sits in the throne to drive the mechs, but where do the enginesmith and the rest of the crew sit in the mechs?
this is a typical battle configuration. for transport to the site of the battle, additional crews ride on top or wherever it's safe, and dismount to set up camp and provide ground support when they reach their destination
i've drawn the chambers really big just for illustrative purposes. there's a platform usually on the head/behind the helm area for lookouts, navigators, and signallers (they use flag signals to communicate with the ground/other beasts)
the throne chamber is the most heavily armoured with an open front protected by a grille of bars. knights go in there. this is the safest place to be when being attacked from above (rip to the navigators). because knights' helms have no eye holes, field of view is not important.
in the chest there's the heart chamber and its great vessels. usually 3 great vessels. this is really cramped and really deep inside the body so it carries a really high risk of suffocation. one enginesmith, usually the senior, essentially 'plays' the heart engine's cylinder block like a piano to regulate it. iirc pantera has something like 112 pistons total, though not all in the heart. the purpose of the heart is to deliver fuel from the furnace to the limbs/neck/weapons systems/whatever currently requires it. the second enginesmith manages the valves which govern where the fuel goes.
in the belly furnace there's space for a very large crew, these guys have to manually inject fuel from the tank (in the pelvic girdle) into the furnaces at the correct rate to keep it the right temperature. they have tons of ventilation to ensure the fires are always going, but it's, again, very dangerous. the fuel can eat through flesh when it's at this temperature and even a small splash can very quickly become fatal. because of the boiling temperatures, there's no ppe. they work shirtless and have to rely on skill and experience to stay safe.
each area has a communications panel which uses a pull cord system or a message tube system (rarer). the cords are painted alternating bands of colours so that it is visually obvious when someone on the other end of the cord pulls it down a notch. it's simple but it works.
the knight's dialogue with the beast allows them to experience the movement of the cords as an extension of their own body, because the cords go through the spine. so any communication between the different chambers is known to the knight.
i've seen some posts about The Gender Of It All Or Lack Thereof in the mars house and started to respond but it felt dickish to disagree on someone else's post when their take on it is as equally #valid as mine is so, my feelings, briefly: i don't think the genderlessness was done perfectly by any stretch, but i also don't think that this was a book that was meant to Solve Gender, or even take steps towards it. i don't think we're supposed to assume that tharsis is better for "abolishing gender." the thing is that while i wouldn't call her books "romances" natasha pulley writes books that are primarily about relationships in difficult atmospheres - no one Solves Colonialism in the bedlam stacks, no one Solves Homophobia And Racism in watchmaker, and i didn't really go into the mars house expecting them to Solve Gender. gale being a senator does place more stress on the idea that these people, in particular, have the power to make changes and help people, so that may be why there's more frustration with the story than in bedlam stacks (where tbh merrick's involvement with the EIC bothered me a lot more than gale's political stances did).
again, i don't think it's wrong to not like how pulley dealt with gender politics; at the same time, it feels like a lot of people who did the bad reviews think that tharsis was supposed to be gender utopia, and i just. don't think we're supposed to assume that. there's so much else wrong with tharsis that i see no reason to think gender is the one thing they got Exactly Right. it's a "what if?" world, not a "here's how it should be" world - the people who built tharsis saw a deep wound throughout humanity's long past and said, "how do we deal with this?" and came up with an extreme solution for a society in extreme conditions. like.......they think it's weird and gross to have kids biologically, why should i think they have perfect ideas on anything???
tl;dr i read the Gender Abolishing as a flawed, wounded, but well-meaning and sometimes beneficial reaction to millennia of gender-based suffering. by no means do i think i was supposed to go "yeah, let's do that in the real world!" after reading the book, nor do i think it's a problem with the book itself that abolishing gender ended up not being as great at solving problems as they thought it would be. people will be people! they try to fix things and sometimes cause as many problems or more as the ones they fixed. but people try to fix things anyway.
current state of fandom is. people don't like mean characters but they don't care for kind ones either. the solution is to take rough-but-not-too-mean characters and mellow them out to be more agreeable, and occasionally take kind characters and make them edgier. and don't get me started on women

---Two weeks before the wedding---
While the whole city of Naples was asleep, Michele was sitting at the pier under the crescent moon and cloudless sky. The night was unusually quiet, and all that could be heard was the sound of the waves lazily going back and forth against the shore.
“How does it feel, Vincé?” Asked Michele in monotone, after Vincenzo sat down next to him.
“What do you mean?”
“Your wedding with Arianna. Have you already forgotten?”
“No, I haven't.” Vincenzo looked up to the sky, spotting a few stars. “But I'm not really enthusiastic about it, you know? I barely know her.” He added, shrugging, turning towards Michele, staring at his icy blues.
The other man turned around and sighed.
“I think she feels the same, too.” Continued Vincenzo, gazing at the sea. “We're getting married just to please our parents, after all.”
Michele stayed in silence.
“What's wrong, Miché?”
“Nothing, it's just...” Michele exhaled. “I don't know what I'm going to do after you get married and move there. Maybe I should just... Get it over with already.” He suddenly got up, but Vincenzo stopped him, seizing his arm.
“Don't even try to think about it!” The blond raised his voice.
Michele stared at him, saying nothing, the corners of his eyes filling with tears.
Vincenzo moved his hand to Michele's. “Ti amo, Miché. I always will.”
The raven-haired man brought his fingers to Vincenzo's cheek, before the blond got closer and pressed his lips against Michele's.
---One week before the wedding---
“Ciao.” Said a boyish familiar voice.
“Ciao...” Michele sighed, without diverting his gaze from the sea. “How's the nose, Vincé?”
“Not as bad as the other day, I think it's healing.” Informed Vincenzo, sitting down next to Michele.
“It's all my fault.” Murmured Michele. “I'm sorry.” He turned towards the blond, whose hazel eyes were glistening under the moonlight.
Vincenzo frowned. “No way! Why would this be your fault?”
“You got beaten up by your father because he saw you hanging out with me! The real question is, how is this not my fault?” Michele's blue eyes began to become watery. “I should just... We should just stop seeing each other, before one of us ends up dead!”
Vincenzo exhaled. “Miché, don't say that...” He rested his hand on Michele's shoulder. Michele took Vincenzo's hand on his and squeezed it.
A gunshot was heard in the distance.
“We should go home. Now.” The dark haired man said, looking at the blond boy in the eyes.
---Two nights before the wedding---
Michele was feeling restless: it was three in the morning and Vincenzo still had to show up. He was shivering, despite it being a summer's night in Naples. He felt like something bad had happened to his lover.
He shot a glance back at the coast: he never felt so happy to be proven wrong, as he realized that Vincenzo was running towards him.
Michele got up and pulled the blond boy in his arms, hugging him and kissing his face all over. Vincenzo squeezed him just as tight. “Sorry for being late. I was worried someone was following me and I took the longer way.”
“Grazie a Dio you're here, Vincé.” The other whispered.
“Listen,” Vincenzo detached himself from Michele, “I am so tired of living like this.”
Michele blinked, a worried expression painted on his face.
“I don't want to get married to Arianna, I can't take being a criminal anymore...” Continued the blond, “and more importantly, I can't stand being away from you for just one more minute.”
“Vincé, where are you going with this?”
“I want to run away with you, Miché!” Vince took Michele's hands in his.
“But where?! You know they're gonna find us no matter where we go!”
“Not if we take the cargo ship to America.”
Michele widened his eyes.
Vincenzo grinned.
“You're crazy, you hear me?” Michele threw his arms up in the air. “Pazzo!”
“So, are you in?”
Michele hesitated. “If I had to choose between staying here without you and the possibility of dying at sea with you…” He said in the end, smiling. “I still would choose you.”
---One night before the wedding---
The first sun rays of the morning had still to come out as Vincenzo and Michele embarked on the first cargo ship to the United States of the day, hoping for a new chance at life.
The Brazillian dub of Jetter Mars is lost media, this video is the only existing proof of it.
EDIT:
I didn't knew that but @jetmars has the full episode DUB on their Youtube channel, thank you for archiving it.
youtube
Apparently the studio that owned the dub of Jetter Mars caught fire, not sure but it's a possibility.
Maybe someone recorded it on a VHS and didn't know they had it or don't want to share it.
The brazillian lost media community is weird with sharing stuff for some odd reason.
Along with this another fun fact, the 80s Astro Boy was never dubbed into Brazilian Portuguese, but apparently the 60s was but is also lost media. Some sources say it was dubbed, others say no, so I take it as a rumor because there is no actual proof of it.
Novel quotes: wei wuxian having feelings/thoughts about jiang cheng
Under the cut because it's long
However, Jiang Cheng was gone.
Holding steamed buns, flatbreads, and fruits in his hands, Wei WuXian felt his heart skip a beat. He forced himself to calm down. Even after he searched through the neighboring streets, he still didn’t see Jiang Cheng. He finally began to panic. Grabbing a cobbler on the side, he asked, “Mister, there was a young master about the same age as me sitting here. Did you see where he went?”
The cobbler licked the thick end of a thread, “The one that was with you?”
Wei WuXian, “Yeah!”
The cobbler, “I was in the middle of doing something so I didn’t really see. But he kept on spacing out, staring at the people on the street. And then when I looked up at where he was again, he suddenly disappeared. Maybe he left.”
Wei WuXian murmured, “... He left... He left...”
He probably left for Lotus Pier to steal the bodies!
As though he had gone mad, Wei WuXian sprinted immediately toward the direction that they had come from.
[...]
He gave himself a harsh scolding in silence—he was stupid, useless, ridiculous, it was bizarre, unimaginable. Yet, he was alone, without a sword or any tools, and on the other side of the wall there were thousands of Wen Sect’s cultivators, perhaps Wen ZhuLie as well.
He wasn’t scared of death. He was only scared that after he died, he wouldn’t be able to save Jiang Cheng and betray the trust that Jiang FengMian and Madam Yu left him. In such circumstances, the only one he could place his hope on was a person of the Wen Sect whom he had met only three times in total!
[...]
Wei WuXian’s gaze turned from Wen Ning toward Jiang Cheng, whose body was covered in blood and eyes were tightly shut. His fingers couldn’t help but clenched into fists.
Chapter 59 Poisons—Part Four
Jiang Cheng’s expression was rather strange. It was calm, almost too calm.
He stared at the ceiling, as though he wasn’t at all interested in the situation that he was in, as though he didn’t care about where he was either.
Wei WuXian didn’t expect him to react in such a way. Sadness, happiness, anger, shock—he had none of these. His heart skipped a beat, “Jiang Cheng, can you see me? Can you hear me? Do you know who I am?”
Jiang Cheng glanced at him. He didn’t say anything. Wei WuXian asked him a few more questions. Arm supporting himself, he finally sat upright. He looked down at the mark of the discipline whip on his chest before laughing bitterly.
If the discipline whip struck, it’d be impossible to wipe away the mark of shame. Wei WuXian comforted him despite this, “Stop looking at it. There has to be a way to get it off.”
Jiang Cheng slapped him. His strike was so weak, so powerless that Wei WuXian didn’t even flinch, “Hit me. As long as you’ll feel better.”
[...]
If Wei WuXian were the one injured or if somebody else had saved them, he’d immediately say farewell and leave at once, full of determination. However, right now, Jiang Cheng was the one who had been injured. Not only was he injured, he had lost his core as well. He wasn’t in his right mind. No matter what, Wei WuXian couldn’t find any determination.
Chapter 60 Poisons—Part five
Out of the blue, Jiang Cheng spoke up, “Not to do what?”
Wei WuXian paused in surprise, turning to him along with Lan WangJi. Jiang Cheng covered his wound with one hand, his voice chilly, “Wei WuXian, you’re such a great, selfless person. You did the best things possible, and you swallowed all the suffering and didn’t let anyone know. What a touching story. I should kneel down and cry in gratitude, shouldn’t I?”
Hearing the mocking tone that lacked any courtesy, Lan WangJi’s face grew cold. Jin Ling saw the displeased expression and immediately stood in front of Jiang Cheng, scared that Lan WangJi would kill him with one strike, “Uncle!”
Wei WuXian’s expression worsened as well. He never expected Jiang Cheng to make up with him after he found out the truth, but he didn’t think his tone would be as unkind as ever, either. With a moment of silence, he replied, voice muffled, “I never asked you to thank me.”
[...]
In the beginning, it was precisely because he didn’t want to see such a Jiang Cheng that he decided not to tell him.
He remembered every single thing he promised Jiang FengMian and Madam Yu—to help and take care of Jiang Cheng. If someone as unhealthily competitive as him found out about this, he’d be dispirited his whole life, too tortured to face himself. There’d always be something he could never overcome, reminding him that he could only reach where he was because of another’s sacrifice. It wasn’t at all his cultivation and his achievement. No matter if he won or lost, he’d long since lost the right to compete.
Afterwards, it was because Jin ZiXuan and Jiang YanLi died for him that he had no face to let others know. To tell Jiang Cheng after what happened then would be like shirking responsibility, hurrying to demonstrate that he’d contributed as well. It’d be like telling Jiang Cheng, don’t hate me, look I’ve contributed to the YunmengJiang Sect too.
Chapter 102- Hatred - Part Five
At this point, somebody on the side suddenly called, “Wei WuXian!”
Wei WuXian answered immediately, “What?”
Only after he answered did he realize that the one who called him was Jiang Cheng. Wei WuXian felt somewhat surprised. Jiang Cheng didn’t respond directly. Instead, he took something out from his sleeve and tossed. Wei WuXian caught it by instinct and looked, only to find a black, gleaming flute along with a crimson tassel.
It was the ghoul flute, Chen Qing!
As he felt the flute that he was more than familiar with, Wei WuXian didn’t even have the spare time to feel surprised.
Chapter 108: Concealment - Part Two
After a pause, he asked again, “How have Sect Leader Jiang and Jin Ling been?”
Lan JingYi pouted, “They seem pretty fine. Sect Leader Jiang is the same as before, always lashing out at people with his whip. Young Mistress’s temper has been getting better. In the past he could talk back thrice to his uncle after he scolds him once. Now he can do ten times.”
[...]
Hearing Lan JingYi say so, Wei WuXian relaxed slightly. In truth, he knew that these weren’t what he really wanted to ask. But as it sounded like Jiang Cheng and Jin Ling had been doing quite well, there was nothing left to say.
Mimic Octopus: Mimic octopuses have been observed mimicking numerous different species of animals, some animals being mimicked more often than others. Among the animals mimicked are lionfish, sea snakes, jellyfish, and zebra sole. The octopus' mimicry of flatfish may be its preferred guise. Not only does the mimic octopus use its ability to defend itself from predators, but it also uses aggressive mimicry, to approach wary prey, for example mimicking a crab as an apparent mate, only to devour its deceived suitor
a rly underrated thing about crazy ex girlfriend imo is that it's one of the rare shows i know of that really spends time on exploring what the process of having children is like for queer ppl/for those who go about it "non-normatively". it's not even rly a main storyline but i still find it rly well-handled and touching.
sometimes. sometimes the pendulums in crota’s end can yeet you off the map but OTHER times, they can give you a gentle bop that delivers you right to the person you need to take the chalice from.
