New @laterreurofficial comic is so damn good, I had to try my hand at a fan cover design for the episode

AHHH copycat is so good!! I absolutely love all the small details like the cat noir poster with darts, the fact ladybug and chat are both blurry compared to the news reporters, copycat having a gardevoir keychain, and Nino holding Alya back!! The dialogue is also super refreshing and feels so natural especially the cape pen part! (The way you guys write makes me insane and I can’t even begin to describe it.) You guys do such a amazing job capturing everything and making it so genuine
I was curious about what the inspiration for this was? I can see bits and pieces of all kinds of things ( perfect blue and maybeee Madoka Magica with lucky and her attack/general appearance) If you can talk about it without spoilers for the second part!!
I think Ladybug being treated as a celebrity is unfortunately most commonly used in this fandom for the sake of putting her on level playing field fame-wise with Adrien, thus being another vehicle for shippies rather than explored as interesting within itself. There's a fuck ton of critique about capitalism, consumerism, and celeb culture to be had in a superhero story (*cough cough* Vought International *cough*), and that's an element that's always fascinated us in the LT crew.
Later installments with Fakeybug will center around her relationship to Marinette and how Marinette views herself (with Fakeybug as a parallel/conduit), but until we get there the first step in Fakeybug's arc is her introduction as the commercialized, sanitized commodity that Ladybug is warped into, and eventually how Fakeybug will break out of that mold. Given that, there's obviously the conceit following Fakeybug of the limited roles of women in patriarchal society, and that if women do not fit into palatable, digestible roles (i.e. Ladybug), their selves will be misconstrued and warped to make them fit one (i.e. Fakeybug).
All this to say, I'd personally love more AUs that go the gritty realism route in service of deconstructing superheroes from the lens of fame (and its subsequent disillusionment between one's public persona and private identity) and consumerism, especially in magical girl shows or other media that is, frankly, meant to sell toys.
What really is the difference between the knockoff market stall Fakeybug merchandise, and, say, the merchandise made for Miraculous Ladybug in the real world?
oooh... meta.....
#i'll admit i don't really see the madoka in her though? the wand is precure inspired actually#like if anything precure is a MUCH better comparison to her considering how Product she is and how many fucking precure touys there are#wis responds#asks#mlb la terreur au#la terreur 04#fakeybug

What would sillynette think of fakeybug??
I think they'd get along! They're differing takes on the same sort of concept of "commercialized Ladybug", only Silly had much more personal say on the matter whereas Fakey kind of came out of the mold that way (pun intended). They're equally cartoonish as well as both belonging to the girly bruiser Adorable Harbinger Of Incredible Violence trope, so they'd just be two kira-kira peas in a merchandisable pod.
Granted, in an earnest attempt to foster a connection, Sillynette may introduce Fakeybug to the Adrien fandom. With how impressionable Fakey is, I assume the effects this would have would be severe and terrifying. Having a buddy to squeal over posters is one thing, waking up to your celebrity crush tied to a cartoonishly large anchor in the middle of your bedroom floor is, uh, another.
Not like she'd mind. As long as Fakey knows she isn't keen on sharing.

I don't remember if we ever got an ask about it, but if you want a reference for Fakeybug's voice you just gotta imagine she sounds like Jenny Wakeman (Janice Kawaye) and/or Cure Wonderful (Maria Naganawa).

Is there any Damsel STP DNA in fakeybug's design? That expression feels very deconstructed damsel in my eyes.
Not directly! They do both borrow from moe ingenue trope design though, so I can see why you'd think that. Fakeybug is far from a helpless damsel in distress, though. The carnage she will cause is ridiculous.

i love how chat was goving this whole feminism speech and then wouldnt fight fakeybug bc he didnt want to hit a lady. am i misreading this to be hypocritical? im sure if it is, yall intended it, but maybe that wasnt the intention there?
No, Chat Noir sucks and is a massive hypocrite ❤️ The benevolent misogyny he was brought up with comes into direct conflict with the canonical inexplicable feminism encoded within every senti*, and I think that's fun!
Besides, I think the niceguy chivalry not jiving well with the earnest belief that women are equal and capable is both a neat little flaw and makes sense for Chat Noir as a character.
*[looks back to Julien] ...Most sentis.

WISTERIA HERE! WE CAN FINALLY TALK ABOUT FAKEYBUG YAAAYYY!!!!
Fakeybug/Lucky/Sentibug is approaching a year of development on the 26th! Her introduction alongside Copycat is in no way unintentional, since it allows for a better contrast and also works a lot better for the Copycat of La Terreur, Kevin Defrique.
To put it quite simply, Kevin is an incel who (like a lot of in-universe 'Ladybug' fans) is more infatuated with the watered-down misogynistic commodity of Ladybug than Ladybug herself. Fakeybug takes inspiration from a lot more classical magical girl anime design motifs (as well as Mima from Perfect Blue), but it's all very plain and featureless to keep her looking like a sort of blank slate. You know, the way misogynists like their women.
This obviously will not be the last time you all see her, and in fact she will outlive Copycat screen-time-wise. Hope you all can't wait to see how her arc plays out <3

Hey regarding that Dolls spread on Fakeybug. What currency is being used? I don’t recognise the F symbol & I’m curious
Francs!
In the real world, French Francs ceased to be legal by 28th February 2002 after the introduction of the Euro in 1999. In La Terreur, the quarantine means that this switch never fully happens, and francs are still the dominant currency in Paris.
I think it's a cute way of demonstrating how closed-off the quarantine has made Paris (and by extension France) from the rest of the world, in a way. The EU isn't really keen to deal with the issues Hawkmoth is causing, as is France, so Paris is left behind to die.
Trapped in the past by a man desperately trying to bring the past back, as it were.

okay so like. words are hard but. something about how mari's pigtails are worn low, sort of a casual hairstyle that's worn for comfort and convenience, it looks neat but it's easy to do in the morning, while ladybug wears low double buns, hair out of her eyes entirely, safety first! it can't be grabbed or caught during a fight and stays out of her way
while lucky red girl/fakeybug has high, long pigtails, curated for that cutesy look, her hair is also noticeably fuller than mari's or ladybug's, bouncy and anime like. something about pulling pigtails. something about infantilization. something about the male gaze.
Yeah pretty much.
