So we all know that Anakin thinks of Obi wan as his father figure, so what if he considers Cody his step-dad (mom?). It just makes everything funnier. Even though i love the idea in codywan fics of Cody just hating Anakin on a base level, or simply disliking him on principle, i think i find the idea of Anakin feeling like he needs Cody's validation in his life even funnier.
Anakin, nervous: what do You think of My plan Commander?
Cody, filing his nails: its garbage just like You are, but its better than the last one
Anakin: *choking* Thanks You.
After Obi wan breaks half of Darth's helmet
Purge trooper Cody, dry as fuck: it's an improvement
Darth: It was on purpose. It's a fashion statement.

Emphasizing Louis's Beauty
I've talked previously about how Louis in the 2nd half of the season is rarely seen in suits anymore but what about the earlier episodes when he wears a wide array of colorful suits while he is still performing his role in human society? What stands out is how many vibrant colors and patterns we see him in vs. Lestat who is always in some kind of tan, gray or navy. A lot of this is simply historical record as vibrant colors were more typical of black male dress of the era and we see that Louis is trying to maintain appearances, but on the show his bright costuming always stands out from other background male characters black OR white (confirmed by the costume designer that his colors are like a flame drawing Lestat in) and the tailoring and color choices often stands in contrast to Lestat on screen next to him in a more traditional masculine (aka duller) color. I mean compare this to how romantic period dramas typically style the men and women.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Beyond the historical nods, which most tv viewers don't have detailed references to as there aren't many color images we have from that era, I think the show does a great job of connecting cultural references everyone can immediately pick up on (the Leydecker outfits were obvious examples). For example, if you think of a white stripey suit from the 1910s, the image that came to mind was probably Rose in Titanic. So even as Louis is projecting what was period standard masculinity, what the modern viewer is likely thinking of is a tailored suit worn by the female protagonist in one of the biggest movies of all time. These looks screams high fashion latest designs from Paris, decked out pampered princess of the ship ("prince of your district").
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the same vein, when you imagine an iconic green period costume you're probably thinking of Keira Knightley in Atonement. In fact if you google "green suit in period film" all the results are of women. Rarely are men put in these colors in period romances particularly. I mean I think they put Keira in that green dress simply because she looks incredibly beautiful in that color and that's also how I feel about Louis in his green outfit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've talked before about the use of red on Louis but looking at the actual context of when Louis wears red they are specifically scenes of lust (w/ Jonah), shame (the slutshamig w/ the soliders) or anger/revenge (killing the Alderman) and hello look at these!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And this is really an exclusively female character trope where vivid color costuming is used to convey mood or emotion! When a man is angry or lustful in a film, he's never wearing red, he's just wearing a boring color like black or grey. Evil and goodness are conveyed by black vs. white costuming with men (i.e Lestat's evil black darth vader get up) but rarely any colors not on that b&w scale.
Also speaking of cultural references in costuming here's this again.

Star Wars and Motorsports - A Surprisingly Intertwined History.
I actually had this blogpost planned out for a rainy day - I thought about maybe doing it for May 4th, 2025 as a Star Wars Day thingie - however, today, James Earl Jones passed away at the age of 93. I knew him as Darth Vader and Mufasa, but he played a lot of roles and provided a lot of iconic voices, others may know him from the Sandlot, Coming to America, or dozens of other roles over the years.
Rest in peace.
In his honor, I'd like to do my little part, so...a discussion of the long and intertwined history of Star Wars and motorsports.
The first relates to Darth Vader himself, as a dark and imposing figure, was associated with Dale Earnhardt in NASCAR. Yup, known as the Intimidator and as the Man in Black already for his iconic black and gray GM Goodwrench #3 Chevy, Dale Earnhardt was also nicknamed the Darth Vader of motorsports a few times in the 1980s and 1990s.
The black helmet and sunglasses played into that.
Somewhat more substantively, there is also the world of Star Wars sponsorships in racing, with Pepsi and Lucasfilm teaming up to sponsor Jeff Gordon at the 1999 CarQuest Auto Parts 400 Busch Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, promoting Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Gordon would suffer a mechanical failure...which is probably for the best because it had Jar-Jar on the left rear quarter panel.
Fast forward to the 2002 Coke 600, also at Charlotte, and Lucasfilm tried again, this time teaming up with Cheerios to sponsor John Andretti in the #43 car in the Cup series. This was the big leagues, and with them backing a midpack car, fifteenth was actually a respectable finish.
For Revenge of the Sith in 2005, the marketing campaign was back in force. First things first, there were four NASCARs that year, starting with both Yates Racing cars at the 2005 Subway Fresh 500 at Phoenix. Elliott Sadler drove the M&Ms #38 with a Dark Chocolate themed Dark Side paint scheme, while his teammate Dale Jarrett had a UPS/Milk Chocolate M&Ms Light Side car. The Dark Side car had Darth Vader, Boba Fett, and a Stormtrooper on it. The Light Side car had Anakin Skywalker, the green M&M with Princess Leia hair, and a C3PO M&M.
Pretty odd character choices for Revenge of the Sith but eh, it's all for fun. Anyway, Sadler finished 11th and Jarrett finished 23rd, so I guess the Dark Side won...which I suppose is appropriate, given the movie they're tying into.
So, at the very next race, Star Wars tried again. Teaming up with Jeff Gordon and Pepsi again, this time it was in the Cup Series, sponsoring the Hendrick Motorsports #24 at the Aaron's 499 at Talladega Superspeedway. This car, with Yoda on the hood, would go on to win the race in dominant fashion, leading 139 laps.
Jeff Gordon would also pose with Darth Vader and some stormtroopers ahead of the race, which seems like a conflict of interest given the Yoda car.
Fallen to the Dark Side, Jeff Gordon has.
Finally, Hendrick Motorsports got another Star Wars car, with Episode III sponsoring Kyle Busch's #5 at the amazingly named Chevy American Revolution 400 at Richmond. This Kellogg's car was Mustafar themed with a lava theme on a black base. It has Darth Vader and Mace Windu on it, which...neither is exactly a great fit for Mustafar, what with Windu being dead and Vader only gaining the iconic armor and red lightsaber because of the events of Mustafar.
Kyle finished fourth, another good result for Star Wars.
This wasn't all though, because at the 2005 Monaco Grand Prix in Formula One, Star Wars teamed up with Red Bull Racing to sponsor a car. Much like the Kyle Busch car, it was their regular livery with some orange-yellow Star Wars lettering and a lava/fire theme along the bottom.
Drivers David Coulthard and Vitantonio Liuzzi also got a Star Wars photo op to go with it, this time taking pictures with Darth Vader, two stormtroopers, Chewbacca, C3PO, and also George Lucas himself.
A few years later, at the 2008 Peak Antifreeze Indy Grand Prix at Sonoma, the third to last round of the 2008 Indycar Series, Lucasfilm and Blockbuster (lol) teamed up to sponsor Marco Andretti's #26 car. He would finish fourteenth on that occasion.
This was actually the second collaboration between Marco Andretti, Blockbuster, and Lucasfilm that year, as he actually drove an Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull car at the 2008 Indianapolis 500, finishing third.
More recently, at the 2023 NASCAR Championship Race at Phoenix, Star Wars and Columbia Sportswear teamed up to sponsor the 23XI cars. Bubba Wallace in the #23 ran an X-Wing car and even had Mark Hamill appear in the unveiling commercial, while Tyler Reddick in the #45 ran a TIE Fighter car.
Bubba Wallace finished 10th, and Tyler Reddick finished 22nd.
Two Light Side versus Dark Side races at Phoenix, the Dark Side drew first blood but then the Light Side won most recently. We're gonna need a tiebreaker.
So, that's what I got in terms of Star Wars sponsorships, but that's always been Star Wars going into motorsports. How about motorsports going into Star Wars?
Well, believe it or not, there is an example.
Podracing.
Yup, and not just in the "hey look, it's racing!" way, nope. At the 1998 Miller Lite 200 at Mid-Ohio, George Lucas and his crew recorded the sounds of the CART race to use as part of the sound mix for the podracing scenes in Episode I.
In fact - and unfortunately, I haven't seen the film so I can't confirm - I've seen the claim that the podracing sequence in Episode I mirrors the Monza race from the classic Formula One movie Grand Prix, which George Lucas is actually credited on as an assistant camera operator - which would lend some credence to the theory.
So yeah, I know I've kept this blog motorsports focused but I am a big Star Wars fan and have been for most of my life. To hear about James Earl Jones passing it's...it's just like...wow. It's unthinkable in a way. Obviously, he was getting older and all that, and there was that story a few years ago about him selling his voice rights to Disney, but like...to think that Darth Vader's voice actor is dead? That's crazy to me.
It's one of the biggest losses in recent media history, I think.
There will never be another voice quite that famous.

I'm not a big Star Wars person, but it's implied in Once Upon a Time that Regina Mills is, and I'm pretty confident that her favorite Star Wars character is Anakin Skywalker.
Firstly, the fashion sense. Forget Luke's Chanel boots, Darth Vader had the cuntiest outfits in that whole galaxy, and Regina as a certified fashion icon would appreciate that.
Secondly, the love for his son. I can imagine this hitting different for Regina at different points in time. Before adopting Henry, she'd probably feel a longing for that kind of bond. Maybe she'd even see herself in Luke and she'd wish that her mother had been willing to change for her like Anakin did, or that her father had been strong enough to stand up to her mother like Vader did to Palpatine. After adopting Henry and before the curse broke, I imagine she'd respect Anakin, look up to him even. She'd vow to put her son first like he did, no matter what happened, but she wouldn't yet see herself as needing to change like he did. And finally, years after the curse broke, I think she'd see Anakin as a kindred spirit, and she would feel sad for him that he didn't have more time with Luke. But it would still warm her heart that Luke kept trying to save him.
Thirdly, and perhaps most crucially, the way he had been systematically stripped of his personhood and sought to reaffirm it. I think Regina would regard the prequels as not being very good movies, but she would have a soft spot for them nonetheless. I can imagine the first time she saw The Phantom Menace and baby Anakin, a child slave stripped of freedom and personhood by the society he lived in, telling Padme, "I'm a person, and my name is Anakin." I think that probably made her cry -- to see under the hood of this larger-than-life villain to the trapped child underneath, the child who had never been free, trading one master for another his whole life, who nonetheless asserted his personhood in such a plain, defiant way. I'm sure she'd read and watched all of this Earth's versions of the Snow White fairytale by now, and yet she didn't see herself in any of the various Evil Queens. The fairytale portrayals of her robbed her of her humanity the same way the society she came from did, the same way Cora, Leopold, and Rumple did. But when baby Anakin asserted his own humanity to Padme, she finally saw herself -- not in any fairytale villain but in a child longing to be free, to be acknowledged as human, for that's what she, too, has wanted all along. "I'm a person," baby Anakin would say onscreen, "and my name is Anakin." I'm a person, too, she would think, and my name is Regina.

the problem with huge franchises like Star Wars is that it does legacy characters a disservice by shoe-horning them into every story. Watching Rebels, the appearance of already established characters is routinely a let-down.
So far (season 3 almost finished) Darth Vader is so laughably superfluous to the story, seeing his conflict with Ahsoka feels so frustrating because at this point we know that no meaningful impact to their acrs can happen. The series is so desperate to uphold Vader's reputation, it tells us repeatedly how "dangerous" he is, cuz the show makes him look useless. At first I thought Ahsoka's addition was a smart move, cuz Ezra finally gets to meet another Jedi, but at this point I just think there are too many force-wielders for this to be believable. With Ezra, Kanan, Ahsoka, Maul, Vader and all the inquisitors there's just so many force-wielders on the show, order 66 might as well have never happened. The majority of TCW episodes doesn't star such a density of force-wielders Rebels regularly has.
Obi-wan is in there because of nostalgia and Maul. And Maul is in there because....? I am not sure. The goal can't have been to meaningfully end his story, because he dies 10 seconds after meeting Kenobi. Including 15 minutes of Ezra having a meaningless adventure with Chopper in the same episode was more important I guess. I'm not even mad or disappointed. Maul was just another box to tick so they could put his face prominently on the poster to advertise the season. I can't think of another reason why they would kill off one of the most iconic Star Wars characters in this fashion if not for publicity. They did him dirty, and this is a surprisingly fitting end for a character who diegetically never saw any justice either. In a way his death is perfect. Would be hard to find a more fitting end than to kill off that character in the most narratively unspectacular fashion twice.
I've already talked about Hondo, he's another unnecessary riff at nostalgia. And Wedge. I press skip out of reflex when he shows up. The only good addition of legacy characters are Bail Organa and Mon Mothma. They just show up out of left field in the movies, so it's nice to see them get a little more background.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Rewatch Part 3
We open on Reylo - heart eyes - about to have their second Forcetime.
Rey checking on her boy Finn or attempting to. She walks outside and enjoys the rain. Yes, Rey enjoy this water. Dance in it for a moment. Rey overlooks the water, Ren overlook the machinery. Ren hears the crashing of the waves, Rey hears the spark of the electricity and connection.
Ren "Why is the force connecting us. You and I" well he caught on quickly.
Rey "Murderous snake" Rey with that temper
Ren Immediately looks hurt
Adams "Ah, you do" is like a verbal orgasm.
It's interesting that Ren constantly walks up on her in these forcetime interactions. It's very clear he wants to be understood and is starting to embrace this connection. Rey tries to resist it and not feel anything for him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I didn't need the Canto Bite morality lesson. It would have been just as effective to point out that ultimately the very wealthy are the least effected by war and conflict. It's easy to ignore and they go on partying. It's a great sequence between the fashion, the characters and the touch of humor.
The scene where Rey begins to practice with the lightsaber would've been a great scene to bridge her mind with Kylo Ren to show that she's learning fighting techniques from him. It would've served to illustrate that Kylo Ren really is her guide not Luke.
Luke "At the height of their power they allowed Darth Sidious to rise, create the empire and whip them out. It was a Jedi Master who was responsible for the training and creation of Darth Vader."
Ain't nothing but the truth here. The Jedi had flaws first pointed out by Anakin and then further stated by his son, Luke. We think so highly of the Jedi that we ignore their faults. Faults that led to their destruction.
Rey " I need someone to show me my place in all this." His name is Ren.
Tumblr media
DJ gives me the creeps. Break me out, but don't help me from there. The chase scene on the cute animals blah blah. Yes freedom! Rose and Finn just struggle from a lack of chemistry. There's no real connection between the two of them moving on.
Luke finally does the right thing and checks in with this twin sister.
Reylo third forcetime. This is the first where you get a clue that these two aren't Asexual. She's affected by his presence and he seems his most vulnerable, his most human, with her. He sees straight through to the core of her. They both do. Yes, they hit raw nerves within each other. He doesn't belittle her for her wish to reunite with her parents, he wants to help her move on from needing them.
She goes in the dark side cave. Doesn't see or find her parents. She doesn't find answers. Interesting the one person she wants to talk to is the one person who understands her loneliness and isolation.
This iconic, beautiful scene - even to the haters. Closest thing we'll get to a sex scene in Star Wars.
Tumblr media
The interrogation scene might have been the scene where Reylos said we ain't ever letting this go, but this is the scene where Ren and Rey said we ain't ever letting this go. This connection, the visions they saw and the incredible intimacy of it made Ren turn against his master and Rey the biggest Ben Solo champion in the galaxy.
Tumblr media
Rey getting the best of Luke Skywalker - sigh - never would've happened but okay film.
It's sad that basically the confusion between Ben and Luke was due to miscommunication. I do understand that for moment Luke though if we could avoid another Darth Vader - well hell, let's do that.
It's nice to see Yoda back. It's a nice scene between him and Luke. It's also confusing to understand where the Jedi are suppose to go from here. Luke was a rather successful master he had other students that didn't have a problem. He had one bad egg and yes he failed him.... so he just gave up?
