So, if I were to tell you that Home Alone, Clue, and Galaxy Quest all form a Venn Diagram, with one specific thing in the center, what would you think I was alluding to...
I noticed a few commonalities between my current favourite RPG podcasts! There just seems to be something about walking an episode in someone else's character sheet that really works for people.
I think it’s funny whenever Kara or Paulo are like “go check out our social media, we’re on Reddit and tumblr,” and then there’s just like five of us on here circulating the same posts.
If you could pick a movie for the film reroll to do, what it would it be?
NONNIE YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOUVE JUST DONE
nonnie. you have to understand. i am friends with the entire main cast of the film reroll. i have been campaigning for 3 YEARS. YEARS NOW. for them to do a reroll of it's a wonderful life.
my perfect cast:
paulo - george bailey (OBVIOUSLY)
kara - mary bailey
joz - clarence
andy - DM
they have agreed it would slap. AND andy has campaigning on my behalf about it too. it is simply a matter of scheduling at this point but gddamn it i will ensure that it happens
This came to me in a vision when I was working last Friday
[Image ID: A triple venn diagram labeled "Beverlin" for the top circle, "Film Reroll Mouth/Data" for the left circle, and "Oakworthy" for the right circle. The yellow, just Beverlin circle reads "Kiss so powerful it opens a portal to another plane of existence." The pink, just Mouth/Data circle reads "We got X-men mutant powers by freak accident and I love my other friends, but now you're the only one who understands me." The blue, just Oakworthy circle reads "What if we were from rival schools? And our parents left the world in shambles for us to fix? And we were Will They/Won't They partners?" The orange overlap between Beverlin and Mouth/Data reads "Friends to lovers during a world-altering adventure." The indigo overlap between Mouth/Data and Oakworthy reads "Explosion/fire related injuries during the course of the adventure." The green overlap between Oakworthy and Beverlin reads "'Why did you kiss someone else?' angst". Finally, the pale gray overlap between all three reads "Gay teens from TTRPG podcasts where one of them has major daddy issues." /.End ID]
You gotta wonder how Jon Miller feels right now. He took the reigns for a long requested campaign, only for the plot to be completely broken beyond repair by the second episode, while Joz had to cobble together a last-second Charlie Brown campaign that not only was a one-and-done, but wound up crafting a complete plot out of something that almost had none.
I’m just saying, Galaxy Quest had Jason repeatedly taking baths and getting high, while It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown had witches, a suspected kidnapping, a house fire, and Snoopy warping reality.
My current favourite RPG podcasts all have really spectacular GMing at their heart.
Paulo "Film Reroll" Quiros can (with Tim's backup) plan SO MUCH, but can also turn random elements into the core of a story just because the players brought them into focus, or happened to roll a certain way. The TMNT game was all due to a single 'random crime' roll in the first episode!
Johnny "Oxventure" Chiodini brings comedy and serious Feelings crashing right up against each other - and yeah the Oxventurers play a major role in that too, but Dob meeting his sister or Merilwen throwing down against that necromantic hunter or the reveal of Egbert's backstory, none of that would have had the impact it did without the way they play Literally Everyone Else In The World.
And of course Anthony "Dungeons and Daddies" Burch is SPECTACULAR at rolling with the unexpected, taking his own plans and weaving in what the players bring to the story. Like, the Pyramid was a roll of the dice, but then it was super important! Because he made it so!
