How did you get into Fire Emblem? I was told to play Awakening because I'll love it and I'll totally love all these characters. Um. I never finished it. Then Fates came out, twitter didn't shut up about that and I refused to play it. Then 3H came out. I saw Edelgard and it was joever for me. So I bought it and I've been here ever since.

What Fire Emblem games have you played? Engage, 3H, Fates (all three routes baby), Awakening, Echoes, Warriors, Sacred Stones, a little FEH until I was put off cause I summoned Easter Xander, a little FE7 and I WILL. FINISH. PATH OF RADIANCE. I SWEAR TO YOU ALL RIGHT NOW.

I almost always seem to have the minority opinion on media. And I'm really sick of it now.

I've been on a Fire Emblem kick again lately. But unfortunately, as much as I love all of the Fire Emblem games on 3DS? That's approximately how much I hate Fire Emblem: Three Houses on Switch. ....which is, of course, the most popular/successful game in the series to date.

Okay, look: In Fire Emblem, I really like the strategy-combat stuff and the storylines + support conversations. THAT'S the tasty meat. Anything else? Is irritating busywork to me. So if I spend between 2/3-3/4 of a supposed Fire Emblem game doing the other shit? You've crafted a great recipe to make me feel like I'm MOSTLY doing stuff I hate, and thusly I shall hate your game. And that's the START of the issue with Three Houses. (I must resist getting into the protagonist being a mute cipher OR how multiple side activities require blind luck or a guide to succeed OR bitching about the weak battle map design... oh shit oh SHIT I'M OUTING MYSELF, RUN FOR IT MARTY!)

By comparison, this year's Fire Emblem Engage feels like a step back in the right direction! I'm playing it a lot right now, and I'm mostly having a good time! Still more busywork than I want in these games, but it's at least back on the side of "more good than bad." So of course, if I look this game up and read any fan reviews or watch any videos... they're all about how disapppointing and sucky it is in comparison.

God. Of COURSE they are.

I really don't know why the advances they made with Fire Emblem Echoes haven't carried into the newer games. 3D dungeons you can explore for items and enemy encounters in a Persona-like fashion? Genius! Make it the template going forward! ..... What's that? Not even most fans bothered to buy or play that game??? So no one fucking cares about that feature?

.........fucking hell. Of COURSE they don't.

See, this is how it always goes for me. If I fall in love with a movie, I'll later learn it's either hated or ignored by its own fandom or by the masses at large. If I get emotionally invested in some weird game and its characters? There's a high probability that almost no one played it. And those who did? They didn't like it as much as me. If I think a game is really annoying and full of boring shit? Great reviews, huge fandom, etc.

I could make an utterly wild fucking list of things I like/love that other people hate. And the same is true in reverse. Sometimes, even when I agree with the hate on something, I don't agree with ANY of the reasons for WHY other people hate it!

Before you ask: It doesn't matter whether I know the "majority opinion" in advance of seeing/experiencing something, or I have no clue wht people think of something until I look it up later. I've gone to many midnight premieres of movies that weren't yet screened for critics, and I typically always wind up on the wrong side of the majority. I've played obscure games just because the premise sounded good, fallen in love with them, gone looking for a fandom... and found out that everybody thinks said game is utter shit.

So I'm not just being contrarian; this shit comes NATURALLY.

However, I should make some caveats about this weirdness clear:

Sometimes I feel like I'm on the wrong side of JUST the outspoken part of the audience... but there's evidence to support that my own stance maybe ISN'T so weird. For example: My family and I have always loved 2009's Avatar. We never were dressing up like the goddamn Na'vi or anything so fanatical, but we've rewatched it many times over the years. We regularly quote it to each other around the house. And the massive success of that movie (and its recent sequel) seems to back up that this admiration/enjoyment isn't THAT crazy or esoteric, RIGHT? It's just that the Internet is extremely outspoken about Avatar supposedly being lame and totally unmemorable. Remember how people in 2022 kept being like "You can't remember even three character names from that movie! Nobody quotes it!" and shit like that? I was one of the people going "I will list you NINE characters and spew DOZENS of quotes at you."

My "minority opinion" thing only stretches so far. It's not like I thought The Room was the best movie I'd ever seen or angrily felt Tears of the Kingdom was the worst game I ever played. That would be beyond "minority" and more "MADNESS." There's a limit to this weirdness; it has to be within a certain degree of reason, you know? Some things just aren't POSSIBLE to totally flip the script on. Birdemic will always be embarrassingly terrible, and I refuse to believe anyone would legitimately feel otherwise. OK?

This isn't completely universal, either. There are always exceptions where I actually wind up on the right side of the majority. They're just... rarer than the other thing, honestly.

It gets exhausting to always feel like I'm on the defensive or at worst, utterly alone in how I think among the larger community. I don't want this anymore.

But I don't get a say, clearly. I'm just going to keep doing this. I'm going to go see a movie on opening weekend and think "Wow, what an awful piece of shit" only to find that DECADES LATER, people still cite it as one of the best movies in its genre. I'm going to adore a modern revival of a classic comic book, then I'll go online and find that it's widely considered an abomination before god. This is who I am. It's just REALLY tiring to be here.

Who was your first TOA muse? If you don’t have them anymore, could you see yourself picking them up again? Mae is someone I saw (not too highly) placed on 2022-2023's Most Wanted list and I knew I wanted to do an Echoes muse to start. I don't know if they mesh with my own personality/style well, but they are definitely fun to play around with still. :>

Have you had any other TOA muses? Shamir was a short project that got smashed up due to a busy summer/nerves, but I do want to visit her again someday. Her voice and personality is very strong, but might not be for me.

Do you think you have a type of character you gravitate towards? Magic cool. Pegasus knights cool. Sword people cool! Personality-wise, I think I try to veer more toward social muses, which like I said w/ Mae doesn't really fit me in real life but...hehe.

What do you believe you enjoy writing the most? I'm still trying to find a general vibe, but I really do like writing scenarios that deep-dive into muses' thoughts, like...not 100% angst, but still not light?

Favorite TOA-related memory: I'm still young but running in right as everyone started kissing each other and being able to join was...very good.

Got any delusions that didn’t see the light of day in TOA that you’d like to share? I somewhat shown off my more out-there delusions via tier lists (highlights being Yglr from a very brief attempt to bandwagon from FEH Book II hype before reminding myself why I hate bandwagoning) and I made my interest in Citrinne pretty public, but currently (when I am NOT getting absorbed into Alm-route side material oh god spare me please) I am desiring Anna Fire Emblem. No specification on which one, because that's part of the fun for me too :)

PRE-MISSION BRIEFING DATE - 17MAR20XX TIME - 1057

Oscar is sitting at the conference table in an undisclosed location, watching the pre-mission briefing General Alfonso Kane, who is standing in front of the projector board and pointing out the mission objectives, has set up. He doesn't like him much, but Kane is technically his boss' boss, so he can't do anything about it, though something is rubbing him in the wrong way. It probably stems from how upset General Kane always looks. The second Kane makes eye contact with him, Oscar breaks it and stares down at his notes, trying to scrawl in what is needed while also doodling a 3D chessboard with the pieces on them.

"Mr. Cortez? Is there something you would like to add or give your insight on?" Kane's voice echoes in the room, and Oscar feels sick to his stomach.

Why me? I don't want to talk to you, but I have to anyways. Right… words. I can do this. Do I have to stand up?

Oscar clears his throat and sets down his pencil, his eyes rising slowly, ignoring the gazes of the others at the table and focusing on the screen. There is a map and it shows the route that needs to be taken in order to retrieve the intel, but he can also see where all the reinforcements could be deployed and he purses his lips. "W-Well, from what I can-"

"Speak louder, Mr. Cortez. You are mumbling again, and you know that's annoying in a brief. Also, stand up," Kane commands with a beckoning of his hand.

I was speaking fine… I don't want to stand up. I am fine in my chair. Okay, Oscar… you are a Bishop, and Kane is a… really sucky Rook. Take over the chess board. Simple. Yep. Maybe? Oh no, why do I want to cry? Wait, it's because I am here, standing in front of so many people.

Placing his hands on the table, Oscar pushes himself back a tad and stands up straight, not knowing what to do with his hands, so he keeps them at his sides. "Sorry, Sir. We are dealing with a heavily-coded and important piece of technology that's connected to a server room unlike what we have seen with unorganized insurgents." He looks down at his notes and shyly points at the screen. "You can see from where the tech room is, it's heavily guarded and there are points all over the building where insurgents can storm it and sanitize, or otherwise destroy, crucial intel." He licks his lips and swallows, catching the sight of Bruno and Valdemar putting their thumbs up and Khrystyna making a small little heart with her hands. It makes him smile and rub the back of his neck.

I kind of like it when they see me as a good member of the team. I can be good. I'm useful and stuff. They always get to do the cool stuff, but I like my office. I get to do work and get to play a new game of Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. I still think the 3DS download for it was super cool.

Oscar snaps out of it when Kane is humming and staring at the map. "Well, you are right, Mr. Cortez. That settles it: you are getting geared up too. You will enter the facility along with the task force, listen to Captain Stenberg's commands, and make sure you get all the intel you can for us. I need someone I trust to collect as much as they can safely, and you are the most qualified man for this. Son, don't look surprised about this. Can you do this or do we need to find someone new?"

I'm… going to be a field operative?

Oscar has never thought that he would one day be recommended to be on a field team, an operative that is in the center of all the action. But that is exactly what is happening and he glances over at Bruno with wide eyes, watching as the large officer stands up.

"Sir, with all due respect, Mr. Cortez here hasn't been rated in marksmanship since his days in the service."

"Captain Stenberg, are you suggesting that a viable member of this task force sit out on a mission that requires his exact skillset?"

"I am suggesting that this mission would be dangerous to his-"

Kane slams his fist down on the table, snarling at Bruno, "Don't you dare say this mission is dangerous for him! You pitched this team to me and to General Scholtz. You said this is the best of the best. Are you saying you lied to me, Stenberg? Well, answer me!"

Oscar is filled with terror, sitting down in his chair, wincing from how loud Kane is being but keeping his hands from covering his ears. He doesn't want to be the reason they are fighting and arguing. He isn't even listening to the argument anymore, stimming with his pencil in hand. He wants to feel useful so he breaks his own silence.

"I'll do it… I'll uhm… go into the room and do the mission."

Bruno's head snaps over to stare at Oscar, but he won't look back at him. All while Kane claps his hands in mock pride. "Atta there, son. See, Captain Stenberg? Stop holding back your team and let them flourish in their own careers. He won't even be in danger as long as you do your jobs. I would still take him shooting and get him ready for the mission. You all know what to do. Meeting dismissed."

ONE WEEK LATER. DATE: 24MAR20XX LOCATION: CLASSIFIED

The sound of a gunfight echoes through the halls of the facility, the shouting of people reloading, the sound of screams as the bullets find their bodies. It was all making Oscar uncomfortable as he runs around the server room, trying his best to collect all the data he needed for the mission.

Thoughts of what he's going to do when he gets home, from playing chess to playing the new Fire Emblem game on an emulator, is keeping him grounded while typing furiously into the laptop he has connected to one of the towers. "Just keep typing, just keep typing, ignore the crazy stuff outside, just keep typing."

He has the radio that is sitting on the desk, hearing the communications between Bruno and the others, using them as a way to gauge how safe he is. They aren't in the room with him because there have been waves upon waves of attackers, swarming from all sides of the building. They have to keep Oscar as safe as possible, so they all scramble to their own points, taking out as many threats as they can.

Oscar can feel the sweat pouring down the back of his neck, the stress of the situation slowly getting to him and making him want to cry it out. Instead, he pulls out his pen from his arm pocket, clicking it again and again in a vain attempt to regain some control. He continues this broken record of siphoning all that he can from the servers and computers in the room when he hears on the door open behind him. "Whoever it is, I am almost done here, I swear. I only need ten more minutes, okay?"

"Yeah, you are almost done, alright."

Petrification takes over, Oscar staring at the loading screen for one of the hard drives and how long it would take for the transfer of data to be complete. He doesn't recognize the voice, which only means one thing: someone has managed to slip through the numerous defenses set in place. He turns his head slowly, seeing a bloody man, their arm dripping crimson red from what Oscar can only conclude is a gunshot wound from Kieran's sniper rifle or Bruno's assault rifle. His eyes lock on the knife that is gripped tightly in their hand, which makes Oscar turn fully around, seeing there is about five feet between him and the assailant. "D-don't come any closer," he warns with a shaking voice.

"Or what? You gonna kill me? You're shaking like a scared little bitch. And you are going to die like one!" The man lunges at Oscar, slamming into him and pinning him to a wall.

Oscar feels a punch right to the side, but it takes him a few moments to realize the gravity of the situation when he sees the red blade in the man's hand. His mind goes blank and he doesn't know what happened, but he has a gun in his hand and fires it as much as he can, right in the direction of the man that just stabbed him. Each bang hurts his ears and every second that passes by is more time for the ringing and the crashing waves to grow louder.

He sees the man on the floor and he doesn't notice that he still keeps pulling the trigger until an audible click click click is caught. He slides down the wall, staring at the unmoving man, the growing puddle of blood underneath him making him tremble and cover his ears after dropping the gun. He's rocking back and forth while sobbing loudly, unable to breathe and only able to focus on the smoking gun and the man. He's never killed someone before in person, and he hears the computer ping after a few minutes, signifying his completed task.

He doesn't want to move though, the throbbing pain in his side getting worse and glancing over to see a red splotch soaking his shirt. He can't let the others see that he got hurt or they would get rid of him. He leans his head back, breathing deeply and mumbling a few chess terms and strategies to get him back to square one.

He pushes himself off the wall, gasping and crying out when the radio has a voice come through. "Trigger to Bishop. Hey, Bishop, you good in there? What's your status? Over."

Oscar grabs the radio and tries to ignore the wet slaps of his boots stepping into the spilt blood puddle beside him. "B-bishop to Trigger… J-just a few minutes. Someone came in, but the th-threat was…" He trails off to stare at the man. "Neutralized."

"Copy, Bishop. We need to get to the evac point in five mikes (minutes). Understood?"

"R-roger. I'll be there, Trigger," Oscar murmurs, working on grabbing all of his equipment and putting them in a duffle bag. He turns off the radio and he makes sure he's not crying anymore. He can't let them see him like this. He can be like them too. The throbbing pain grows sharp when he takes his bandana from inside of his bag to place it over his wound, not bothering to look at it either. He then walks over to pick up the dropped gun, holstering it and making his way out of the room that he never wants to be in for the rest of his life.

When he reaches the helicopter and sees the group, he smiles and holds up the duffle bag with pride, loving the praise coming from them. It makes him feel like he's a part of the team for once and he bites the inside of his cheeks to hide the immeasurable amount of pain that is rocking through him.

A short while in the helicopter, Oscar can see that everyone minus the chopper pilot, Sebastian, is asleep. He is thankful none of them pushed to see the soaking blood in his side, his bandana probably heavy with his spilling life.

You can hide it. You can do it. They don't have to know a thing. Yeah… Think about the nice shower back home. Get clean and play fire emblem. Go to the after mission briefing… try and sleep… I can't sleep. I won't be able to.

He stands up and holds his silence, limping to the back of the chopper and pulling out the emergency first aid kit on the wall quietly, taking a peek behind him to see if anyone noticed.

But no one is awake.

He's so happy about that and he goes to take out the bandana that as offered him some reprieve, gritting his teeth and feeling tears fall down his face. He places it to the side for now, planning on discarding it once they have landed. He carefully bandages his wound all on his own, biting his lip so hard that he can taste iron.

Don't let them find out. Come on, you can do it.

When the gruesome task is over, he falls back in his seat with a pained groan, staring out at the beautiful sunset of the jungle before bursting in silent tears. He's thankful he's all the way in the back.

No one can know.

Regarding the next Valentine's Day alts in Fire Emblem Heroes, that begs the question: What will be the next theme for FEH's Valentine's Day banner for next year? 🤔

2017 obviously didn't have one since that's when the game first launched. 2018 had Elibe, 2019 had Tellius, 2020 had Echoes, 2021 had FEH's original characters, 2022 had Awakening, and this year, 2023, had Fates.

This might be a wild guess, but take my word for it:

Next year, 2024, the Valentine's Day banner will be focused on Archanea.

The characters that will be in the banner are Marth, Caeda, Elise, Palla, and Minerva.

Palla and Minerva will be the banner's Duo Hero.

Merric will also be in the banner through Tempest Trials.

Petra is the princess of the archipelago nation of Brigid, sent to Fódlan as a guest of the Adrestian Empire. Catarina is the daughter of a powerful noble family in an unnamed nation outside of Fódlan, sent to the Officers' Academy to make connections but was forced to hide down in Abyss after taking the blame for an assassination attempt on Archbishop Rhea.

The two are not especially close during their shared time at the academy, but reunite unexpectedly after five years have passed and war is being waged, and start to become close after initially bonding through both not being from Fódlan. Petra helps Catarina train for physical combat, while Catarina supports Petra on the battlefield with her magical capabilities. Eventually, as the war nears its end, Petra and Catarina realise they are in love with each other, and become a couple; in their shared ending, Petra returns to lead Brigid with Catarina by her side, and eventually marries her.

This selfship only begins after the in-game timeskip, and takes place in a different version of events to my selfship with Hapi.

Just Leave a Comment Fest 2022

This is the second half of my Just Leave a Comment Fest results, with the first one being the Danganronpa one that you can find here. I’ve seen a lot of people posting their totals with link recommendations based on what they read, so I’ve decided to do that too, but divide it up based on my two main fandoms!

Overall, though, I got a grand total of 25. I know a lot of people have been doing numbers like this or higher in a day, but I’ve been a bit more sociable this week, so I’ve made my goal for next year to increase that number a lot more! Even if I didn’t average as many as others, though, I’ve gotten about 14 replies so far from excited authors, and that warms my heart.

But, without further ado, here are all of my Fire Emblem-themed recommendations based on “Just Leave a Comment Fest 2022” (and please be warned of spoilers!):

• “Petals in Open Palms” by lesbianexalt - A FE Awakening based Sumia/Cordelia one-shot, centred around Cordelia trying to come to terms with the appearance of Cynthia, and how her love will never be requited… The build-up in this one is immaculate, and does a great job of making you feel for the positions that both Cynthia and Cordelia are in. The exploration of complex emotions is done so well that I think this story could appeal to fans regardless of what their shipping preferences are. Just a really lovely fic, honestly.

• “Where the Heart Is” by QuoteMyFoot - A FE Echoes AU multi-chapter story, where instead of Celica being discovered, Mycen is able to kill Slayde and his men and keep her under their protection. Thus, she grows up with the other Ram Village kids, knowing her destiny in the back of her mind, but unable to truly say anything. The author has expressed that updates may be slow going and it may be unpolished just because they are in and out of burnout for it, but the agency it grants Celica is absolutely spectacular, and the way the character relationships are written lends so well to the narrative.

• “Reading” by SwiftWhiskers - A FE Echoes one-shot centred around the young Ram Village kids. Alm is having some trouble learning to read (implied dyslexia), so his friends devise a plan to try and help him learn. This fic is cute and fluffy, and perfect for someone who just wants to read about a little moment of happiness. Personally, I know I’ll never get enough of the Ram Village kids loving each other, so I thought this one was just perfect.

• “Close Scrutiny” by Mystery_Of_The_Emblem - A FE Fates one-shot set in Revelation about Saizo trying to have fun at the first Nohr-Hoshido party. He starts it off spying, but when Kaze catches him and points out how badly it would reflect on Ryoma if he were to be caught, Saizo has to change up his tactics on how he will go about collecting information. The author’s creative way of approaching Saizo’s relationship struggles were so fun, and the humour added from the brotherly relationships even more so. This one would please any Saizo fan with ease, even managing to show a little character development for him!

• “A Moment of Silence” by MotaroKahn - A FE Fates one-shot, set in no particular route, where Gunter reflects on the loss of his wife and child through the building is a snowman. This one is bittersweet, but damn, does it do the bittersweetness well. Getting to read Gunter’s reflections firsthand as he builds this snowman, this product of his love and his pain, help establish this tone. At times it might be easy to forget how lonely Gunter truly is, but this author is sure to write in a way that ensures that you might remember a little more often.

• “Bedtime Stories” by fayesdiary ( @fayesdiary ) - A FE Awakening one-shot containing Chrom/Robin and their little family, where Chrom and Robin are desperately searching for a new story to tell their little ones after they have finished Tales of Hoshido, Nohr, and the Invisible Kingdom. This story is full of adorable Lucina and Morgan content as cute little kids, and also features several fun references to other Fire Emblem titles, which is perfect for any long-standing FE fan.

• “Lantern” by pronz69 - A FE Fates one-shot about Jakob’s backstory, detailing how he went from the rejected child of two nobles to one of Corrin’s closest confidants. One thing I really loved about this one was that it did a good job of preserving the tragedy of Jakob’s backstory, while also maintaining his sharper personality traits. It really establishes him as an interesting character, because while most of his early relationships were not formed on kindness or respect, it shows that when it comes down to it, he values it deeply. He’s reluctant to trust at first, of course, but “Lantern” proves that Jakob truly is just a person who wants to be loved…

• “Talking” by NoFunctionalSaveButton - A FE Three Houses one-shot set at the end of Verdant Wind, in which Claude and Rhea get to finally sit down and have a conversation about her past — and encourage each other to live. This one is an emotional but fun establishment of culture, one establishing the histories and cultural practices of the Nabateans and the Almyrans. It digs deep into the potential connection between Claude and Rhea, and serves as a means of exploration for the part of Claude that does want to give Rhea the benefit of the doubt as a person. This one is honestly just really great, and I must confess, this is not the first time I have read it. It’s worth a read and reread any time.

• “Fall” by May_Aboreal - A FE Three Houses one-shot set during Crimson Flower, but on the Golden Deer’s side. This piece is about the death of Hilda and her last moments before she dies, thinking of Claude and her beloved Marianne, and what is to come next. This story is so beautifully descriptive, and manages to encapsulate the relationships between Hilda and her two loved ones with such power.

• “Everything is a Sweet Revelation” by theatrhythms - A FE Echoes College AU one-shot, focused on Gray/Tobin and Mae/Boey. To be more specific, actually, it’s about Mae and Gray trying to figure out as a duo how they’re supposed to act now that they’ve started dating one of their best friends in the world. Clever, charming, and accurate, this one is just a straight up pleasure to read for anyone who’s a fan of these two pairings.

• “Floriography” by luminioux - A FE Three Houses Marianne/Hilda College AU. This one is actually a challenge one-shot, where the author could only use three sentences to tell their story. Each of those three sentences is used damn near perfectly, with a clear understanding of both Hilda and Marianne’s characters, and an extremely entertaining picture of what their lives together would look like as college girls.

• “Spilt Milk” by Steelport - A FE Fates one-shot written for Felicia/F Corrin. This fic lovingly tackles Felicia’s self-esteem issues in relation to her relationship with Corrin, and how she feels like she will never be good enough for her. So overwhelmed by her feelings, Felicia runs away, only to find out that… maybe things weren’t exactly as she always saw them. It’s a serious depiction of Felicia’s clumsiness and emotional struggle, and a comforting romance that confronts just how important the two girls are to each other.

• “From Dawn to Dusk” by MahNati - A FE Fates multi-chapter written for Siegbert/Shiro. I’ve already raved about this once or twice before, but I cannot recommend it enough. Set after Conquest, it follows Shiro’s journey to become the next king of Hoshido through visits back and forth to Nohr and meetings with Siegbert… until news comes that the long lost Fujin Yumi has suddenly been recovered in Nohrian territory. This fic is an awesome confrontation of the Shiro/Siegbert relationship with good development, and does just about as much with relationships like Hinoka & Shiro and Xander & Siegbert without even having to try that hard. The characterizations are crisp and powerful, and the whole story is one I have read more than once. It’s still updating fairly regularly, too, so you have lots to look forward to!

Happy New Year + New Arrivals! (01-02-23)

 Good evening! Been a little bit since our last update, the Winter Break is always such a busy time at us here in Elsternwick, but we wanted to wish everyone following us, or anyone that may simply be visiting a happy and safe Happy New Year!

We hope that your 2023 is productive and amazing for you!

2022 in Elsternwick was quite a productive one! We had our very first Expedition (The Angel Expedition) begin, our very first Story Event (Emotions Run High), and had no shortage of fresh and interesting new faces arriving in Elsternwick, we couldn’t be happier with how the year turned out!

We’ll be doing our best to make 2023 even better and continue to improve the group and make it amazing for the players, and anyone else that might be visiting

To that note, we have updated the various pages we have on Elsternwick! They were a bit old and outdated, but have been given a fresh coat of paint! In particular the Locale page and the Past Events page has been updated after a year or more! We hope that this update to the page makes information easier to parse, and interests you in joining if you’re visiting!

In addition, we have a few new faces arriving in Elsternwick, so let’s get to welcoming them!

Secondly, we recently put out a new wave of castmate requests, these are requests from our various muns in Elsternwick who hope to have specific characters or series represented more, if you want to take a peek, look over here!

Requests

In Elsternwick, you are more than allowed to make requests for castmates, or more characters from a franchise that you feel could have some more representation, normally, we have a limit to these (Given our Anti-Flood rules!), and cap them at around 5 every 2-3 months, unsurprisingly, the requests for new characters were filled extremely quickly this time, so, for ease of access, we’re making a post summarizing the requests, as well as who requested them!

Bee (who plays Rina) would like more Love Live castmates, with a focus on Nijigasaki School Idol Club!

Angie (Who doesn’t play any TES characters!) would like some The Elder Scrolls characters with a focus on Morrowind or Daedric Lords!

Hennie (Who plays Henry Stickmin and The Right Hand Man) would like more Henry Stickmin characters, if possible! (Reginald Copperbottom is already here as well!)

Shin (who plays Mustache Girl!) would like more A Hat in Time Characters, and would like to see The Snatcher or Dead Bird Studios characters! (We already have Hat Kid!)

And Marina (Who plays Shiego “Mob” Kageyama) would like more Mob Psycho 100 characters, in particular requesting  Dimple, Ritsu, Teru or Tome! (We already have Reigen!)

And that about does it for character updates!

Our first event (Emotions Run High) is still going, which makes sense since we’re still early on in it! Many things are yet to develop fully, but if our player plans are anything to go off of, it’s going to be an amazingly fun time,. we can’t wait to see it!

Our first expedition (Angel Expedition) is still on going as well, and will soon reach it’s first checkpoint, allowing other players to leave and new ones to join, if they so desire! So, if you’re interested, be sure to keep your eyes open for the first checkpoint!

The Mountain Range’s lake mysteriously has gained a hidden cove behind the waterfall, it seemingly formed over night... what could be there? See for yourself in the new hidden cove channel!

And that about does it for our first update of 2023, thank you so very much for reading this far! We’ll do our best to make this an amazing year for everyone involved!

Top 5 video games (any variety, not just Fire Emblem)!

Honorable mentions include The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days (or the KH series in general, really), Portal 2, Kirby Planet Robobot, Dark Souls 1 & 3.

5) The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

I played both Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask last year on my 3DS (with a QoL mod for Majora installed), and while I kinda liked Ocarina and mainly respect it for its legacy, I absolutely adored Majora.

I couldn't put the game down, I 100%'d it, I adore the three days mechanic, I fucking love Termina and its atmosphere and just the whole creepy-melanchonic-odd tones the whole game has. Especially with the masks.

Not to mention facing quite literally impossible odds while everything is working against you over, and over, and over trying to stop the moon from destroying the world, with Link never getting any recognition for his deeds. It just hits a lot harder than the usual fated battle against Ganon because if anything, this game is a desperate struggle against Termina's fate.

Also I just found the game a lot of fun and is currently my favorite 3D Zelda game.

4) Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia

Well, of course Echoes is here!

It's my favorite FE and the direction I'd love for the series to go, it's simple yet so fun and Valentia and its characters are wonderful. Definitely the game in the series that's most dear to my heart.

3) CrossCode

I only played it a few months ago, but CrossCode quickly became one of my favorite games and my absolute favorite of the games I played in 2022 and I am begging everyone to go play it

It's an incredibly polished Action RPG with Zelda-like dungeons set in a futuristic MMO (although the game itself is single-player), the gameplay is incredibly fun and the story is even better, it kept me absolutely hooked for months and the characters are wonderful, especially the protagonist Lea, who's both canonically mute and arguably the best character of the entire game. Also she's my newest blorbo.

Also the themes almost seem tailor-made for me to obsess over and just AAAAGH GO PLAY CROSSCODE ALREADY

2) Undertale

...I mean. Does this game need any introductions? I feel everything that could be said about Undertale has already been said.

I played this game in 2016/2017 and it stuck with me hard, and after these many years the attachment has only gotten higher thanks to Deltarune, obsessing over theories and details with my UTDR mutuals and etching some of my favorite tropes (like symbiotic posession) into my heart. I even made some new friends because of it!

I have a huge feeling Deltarune is gonna dethrone it once the full game comes out if Ch2 is any indication, but Undertale will always be special to me. 1) Mother 3

Ah, Mother 3.

This game is very much in a Majora's Mask situation where its predecessor is more popular and beloved but while I respect the legacy it left behind I loved the sequel far more.

Gameplay-wise the game fixes almost every issue I had play Earthbound and makes it a lot more fast-paced and fun, but the story is very much what makes Mother 3 the masterpiece it is.

Beside the themes sadly becoming more and more relevant by the day, Mother 3 has often been described as one of the most heartwrenching videogames of all time and for good reason.

I almost never cry but the ending left me about to sob, and that was with me getting spoiled.

I can't recommend this game enough. Sure, it's not been localized, but grab a ROM and the unofficial translation patch and you're good to go. Just play Earthbound first.

Linhardt Has Questions

Feathers filled the horizon, whispering something he couldn’t decipher. The whispers echoed through the dark, until they ceased too. The grass under his cheek was slick with mud, and then with blood.

When he awoke, the feathers were still whispering, but their airy secrets were muted, because… because… ah yes, because they were stuffed into a cool, clean pillow. Of course. Satisfied with the observation, he fell asleep once more.

Linhardt didn’t have the time to sit by each individual patient’s bedside and hold their hand through the recovery. Even so, he caught himself checking on Hubert more often than what was strictly necessary, or efficient. It was rare for Edelgard’s shadow to end up in the infirmary with anything worse than a couple of bruises, and given the ugly hit he had taken in the last battle from a sneaky pegasus flyer, everyone worried.

So far, Hubert had only woken up a handful of times, and only for a couple of minutes at most. That, in Linhardt’s personal opinion, wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. If the pegasus didn’t get to Hubert, the exhaustion would.

Linhardt checked the time. Midnight. His shift was ending, and Marianne was bound to show up any minute now. Hubert stirred in his bed. Linhardt sat down on a chair next to the bed, waiting for him to briefly return to the waking world.

It was a bit of a shock every time how sleep could transform some people. The most hardened of soldiers could sleep as innocently as children, their features defenceless and gentle. Hubert… was not one of those people. He could make even rest seem threatening.

Hubert’s eyes opened, but his expression stayed oddly unfocused. That gave Linhardt a pause, even though he knew that some confusion was to be expected after such a nasty injury.

“Now, do you think you could stay with me for a few minutes?” Linhardt asked softly. In the scant light, Hubert’s face seemed to shine through the darkness, not dissimilar to the face of one of those statues of saints that used to litter Garreg Mach. He’d abhor the comparison – Linhardt was sure of that.

Hubert watched him solemnly, as though he didn’t recognise the healer. That gave him a pause.

“All right, a couple of routine questions. Hold back any sarcasm for later, will you?” He tilted his head to the side. “Though I suppose that in your case sarcasm would be as good an indicator of your overall health as any. Who’s the current ruler?”

Hubert closed his eyes again, but replied without a trace of hesitation: “Her imperial majesty Edelgard von Hresvelg.”

“Great. Do you remember the current year?”

“That would be…” Hubert trailed off, his eyes still closed, and for a second Linhardt thought he’d dozed off again. “Eleven-something. I can’t recall at the moment.”

“I envy you.” Linhardt meant to sound nonchalant, but that was only to cover up his own sudden spike of anxiety. Physically, there was nothing wrong with Hubert, but if they were to have to bring him up to speed on the past few years… well, suffice it to say they didn’t have that kind of time.

“Excuse me?”

Hubert sighed, then pinched the bridge of his nose as if trying to stave off a migraine. “I am Ferdinand von Aegir.”

Linhardt choked on air.

Connor himself didn't need to eat. He could consume things, but it was completely pointless. What he did like was feeling included - he enjoyed the social aspects of "getting lunch together", "talking things over coffee", and the likes. And, though he wouldn't volunteer that particular scrap of information, he liked things that crunched or fizzed in his mouth. The novelty of that sensation seemingly never wore off.

When Hank joined Connor for lunch, Connor made sure not to comment on Hank's food. A whole-grain sandwich and a salad. The salad was dripping with mayo, but in terms of healthiness, it was still leagues above Hank's usual fare. Connor was itching to say something, but if he had learnt anything, it was that Hank could get surprisingly defensive, even in the face of positive feedback - and so he stayed quiet.

The human sighed deeply, rubbing the bridge of his nose. "You're staring, boy."

"Sorry!" The android straightened up. "I only-"

"I know. Don't mention it. It's no big deal."

Connor smiled. "All right. I won't."

-My friend actually works at an Applebees (it isn't that good in my opinion)

-Claire's is real, and if you get your ears pierced there you can't donate blood for an entire year because their equipment isn't trusted to be clean!

-Not TODDLERS per say but little kids do try to run lemonade stands (because we engage in good ol american capitalism from a young age) but it's getting harder to do so because of HOAs.
