How to Configure Synology DS923+ NAS for File Sharing [Part 2]
In this article, we shall discuss “how to Configure Synology DS923+ NAS for File Sharing [Part 2]”. File sharing is the process of distributing or providing access to digital files, such as documents, images, videos, or software, across a network. HOW TO SWITCH YOUR FANTASY LIFE SAVE DATA BETWEEN CONSOLES
as you may know, fantasy life does not store its data on the cartridge, it saves to the sd card. specifically in the extdata folder. this can make it difficult to retrieve your data for whatever reason (switching to a new console, exporting it to use in a save editor, whatever reason you might have)
so!!! here's how to switch your save data!! when i got my 3ds xl, i really wanted to have my main save on that console instead of my smaller 3ds, so this is what i (eventually) figured out how to do
edit: its come to my attention that checkpoint can in fact access extdata which makes this process simpler, but maybe this more involved process will still be helpful to somebody!! its what i did and it worked for me (since i didnt realize checkpoint could access extdata)
important: both 3ds consoles will need to be modded as you will need modded software in order to do this. you can learn how to mod your 3ds on 3ds.hacks.guide!! it's very easy to do and the guides are very comprehensive! i've done this multiple times and have had no issues!!
you will also need access to a computer with an sd card slot since this requires going into the files. (though if you've modded your console yourself i assume you have one)
i should also say that you should have a fantasy life save on both consoles! you're gonna need access to the save folder for fl on both consoles, so make sure you have a save on both!! (though you do NOT need a save in the slot you intend to save to. i was transferring my save from the 2nd slot, and my 3ds xl did not have a save in the 2nd slot. it still worked!! you only need one save in any slot)
for this you're going to need to download SAVeFL on both consoles. this software allows you to access the files on your sd card and then export them so that you can view them on your computer.
from here on i am going to refer to the two different consoles as A and B. A refers to the console you are taking the save data off of, and B refers to the console you want to transfer your save data to.
on A, go to the "ext" tab on SAVeFL, and then look for the file ending in "1132" that's where fantasy life is stored. press the y button to export the save to your sd card. do this on B as well.
place the sd card for A in your computer, and navigate to filer > ExtData, and then the folder inside of there. the folder will probably start with today's date, since mine starts with "20230324"
go into the folder "00001132" where you'll find some files. they'll be labeled from "fl_ext0" up to "fl_ext2" these correlate to the save slots in fantasy life, so make sure to copy the right files!! if you want the save in the 1st slot, go for ext0. 2nd slot is ext1, and 3rd slot is ext2. copy the correct files to your desktop. (i have 6 files in mine though i don't know if that's how many you'll have. in any case, copy all the files that have the same title, just to be safe.)
navigate to the same folder from above on B's sd card, and swap the files. if you copied fl_ext0, then replace the fl_ext0 files on B with the ones from A. put this sd card back in your 3ds.
go back into SAVeFL and go to the "SD" tab. the contents of the tab should match the folder you saw on your computer. for example, mine says "ext: 20230324222934: 00001132". press the x button to import your save data
and you're done! your save should now be on a different console!
hope this is helpful to anyone out there, i wanted to spare people from having to go down reddit rabbit holes like i had to

How To DIY Your Taxes [And Not Make Huge Mistakes] https://ift.tt/2V6CxRZ
I’m a firm believer that most Americans should do their taxes themselves. But about 50% of Americans use a paid tax preparer to do their taxes - when they probably don’t need to.
There are definitely circumstances when using a tax preparer can make sense (and look up where to find a tax preparer near you), but the vast majority of people can easily DIY their taxes - but they may have some reservations.
We’re partnering with H&R Block to show you how easy it is to DIY your taxes, and how to overcome the fear of making a mistake on your taxes. We’ll show you how to do it, how to deal with common issues, and how to not fear the IRS.
If you want to start on your taxes while following this article, get started with H&R Block for free here. Didn’t file with H&R Block last year? No worries – it’s easy to switch >>

The Basics Of Your Tax Return And Tax Refund
Before we dive into how to DIY your tax return, let’s talk about it for a second.
The best way to think of your tax return is to think of it as “settling up” with the IRS for the last year. Every month, you typically get taxes withheld from your paycheck. This could cover part or all of the taxes you owe.
But remember, you pay taxes on all the income you earned - which could include interest on a bank account, side hustle income, investment income, real estate, and more.
Your tax return is where you report everything, including your paycheck income, and any other income you may have earned.
It’s also where you report the taxes you already paid in - via those paycheck withholdings or estimated tax payments you may have made.
Then, you calculate how much in taxes you should have paid, compare that to what you already paid in taxes, and you either get a refund for overpaying during the year, or you owe taxes to the IRS for the difference.
From a financial planning perspective, your goal is to break even - be as close to $0 as possible. If you’re getting a big tax refund, it usually means that you withheld too much out of your paycheck. If you adjust that, you could get bigger paychecks every month, and you’d get a smaller refund at tax time.
If you owe a large amount, it could be that you under-withheld your paycheck, or maybe had other income that‘s not taken into account on when you figured your paycheck withholding. You may consider increasing your tax withholding or making estimated tax payments to avoid owing a lot at tax time in the future. If you pay too little during the year, you may owe an additional penalty, even if you pay your full balance due when you file.
If this sounds confusing, don’t be scared tax software like H&R Block Online handles all of this for you. All you have to do is enter your information! Check out H&R Block Online here and get started >>
How To Get Started Doing Your Own Taxes
Now that you understand the basics, how do you get started doing your own taxes? It’s really easy - you simply need to use tax software like H&R Block Online, follow the prompts, enter the required information, and you’re set!
Depending on how complex your return is, this process can take as little as 15 minutes! Check out our H&R Block Online review and see us do a mock return!
To get started, you need to collect your tax documents - your W2 for work, 1099s, etc. I love using an income tax binder to keep everything organized. This is basically a folder where you keep everything in one place for taxes, and it makes tax prep easy!
Then, you’ll simply start following the prompts and entering the information required. For example:
Name
Address
SSN
Spouse/Children Information
When it comes to reporting your income, you follow the prompts and enter the information on the specific form and the box that the software asks for.
For example, when entering your W2 employment income, you’d follow the prompts to enter the information in Box 1, etc.
Once you finish entering everything, the tax software you use will calculate your tax refund or what you owe.

Common Mistakes That Can Be Avoided
One of the biggest things that “scares” people about doing their own taxes is that they will make a mistake. This can either result in a smaller refund (or even owing taxes) or worse - an audit! It’s important to remember that the math of your tax return is always the same - that’s what decides your refund or tax bill. But, making a simple typo could result in a problem. According to this Forbes article, the most common mistakes when it comes to filing taxes are:
Incorrect Social Security Number
Misspelled Names
Filing Status Errors
Math Mistakes
Errors In Figuring Deductions
Incorrect Bank Account Numbers
Forms Not Signed
Missing Filing PINs
If you notice this list, there are two “buckets” of errors.
Things like typos, misspelled names, and incorrect bank account numbers can be controlled by you when you enter the information.
Things like filing status errors, math mistakes, PINs, and errors in deductions can all be avoided by using great tax software. In fact, H&R Block Online has an accuracy guarantee for this stuff.

What If You Need Help?
Okay, so what if you get started doing your taxes online and you need help? Well, you’re not alone - it happens. That’s why great tax software combines easy to DIY data entry with easy access to tax professionals.
When it comes to H&R Block, they offer Federal and State Assist for an extra charge. All you have to do is click the Help Center and ask to speak or chat with a tax pro. Once you upgrade to Assist, you can ask as many questions as you’d like when it comes to your return.
This is a great option for people who want to DIY their tax returns, but maybe have a question about how to enter a form, or simply don’t want to make a mistake. Plus, even when using tax pro assistance, your total cost of filing your taxes will still likely be less than using a professional paid tax preparer.
Check out H&R Block Online here and get started >>
What If The IRS Comes After Me?
This is the biggest fear most new DIY tax filers worry about - and it’s a very over-blown worry. Straight from the IRS, only about 0.50% of all tax returns get an audit. And of those, most are via correspondence (mail), where you simply need to provide requested documents.
As long as you’re entering your information accurately, this isn’t something you should worry about.
If you do get a letter from the IRS and you’re concerned, H&R Block can help you. They offer audit support and assistance services that can help you navigate talking to the IRS about your tax return.
So don’t let this fear hold you back! Get started with H&R Block Online on your return today >>
Final Thoughts
If you’re new to doing your taxes yourself, it can be scary. But once you do it once, it’s really easy to see how it all works.
For the most part, your tax return is simple data entry - looking at your documents and entering the correct information online. Tax software like H&R Block can walk you through exactly what to enter so you don’t miss anything.

LYRA
Lyra Demetra Vaughn Savva is an original character taken and created by Admin Fallon. Lyra is twenty four years old and an undercover FBI Agent who is posing as a fill in record filer and secretary at the local hospital. She lives in a month-to-month room at the Seaside Inn on the harbor of Charter Oak. Lyra is portrayed by Ashley Benson.
THE STORY
Lyra stood tall at five foot eight with cascading dark brown hair and a smile that made people stop and stare. The world saw her wearing her suit, badge and smile and the world instantly either wanted to be her, or be with her. But Lyra’s job made that almost completely impossible. Aged twenty two Lyra had experienced more in the world of politics, Cryptography, training, army and secret-ops training – Lyra was one of the most wanted agents in the country.
From the beginning of her life Lyra had always been the pretty girl who people believed would grow up to be a actress, model or some kind of entertainment factor that people witnessed on their TV. Her mother and father had been happily married for fifteen years when Lyra was brought into the world. Her mother was a MI5 linguist translator while her father served in the British army. Her family had always been far from the normal house hold. Whether that be her mother running away in the middle of the night to secret projects or her father fighting battles in other countries. Growing up Lyra had seen more of her nanny than her parents, but she understood that their jobs weren’t like normal parents; her parents were very special in the running of the country. As soon as Lyra was old enough she pushed herself into the army cadets, training twice a week with them. She’d originally done it to impress her father but in the end she fell in love with as much as her dad did. Any chance he got her father would be there cheering her on, her mother’s job never gave her a break.
Hitting her 9th year of school Lyra had her heart set on training to work in the army or some kind of secret agency, where most parents laughed; her family did not. Instead they trained her as they had been at the age of twenty. Starting with basic 6am fitness training as the years progressed so did the intensity. 6am fitness became all day cryptology training, mathematics, phycology and sociology readings and mentalist training provided by her mother’s friends down at the MI5; they all knew she could do it. By the age of nineteen she was packing her bags to move to the states.
After finishing up at college coming out with full distinction * results she was asked to take a test by her mother’s friend, Alberta. Taking the test she answered over four hundred questions on languages, mathematics, cryptology and all core of computer technology. It wasn’t till the results came back that the results were passed around with the higher staff. She’d gotten a entire 98% of the entire 100% in the test.
It was evident to the entire team that Lyra was special; her mind was as quick as silver and she had skills to succeed higher than most of them in the room. Her mother called a meeting with her superiors asking them to take a look at her daughter and see if she could be slowly integrated into the system. Lyra waited outside the room awaiting the answers for her future. When her mother had stepped out of the doors there had been a smile as big as Louisiana on her lips. Her mother proceeded to tell her that she wouldn’t be working for the MI5 but instead she’d be transferred over to America to work a year in the army, then another two in the ops and cryptology program.
Completing three years in the program Lyra came out an independent, strong woman who was immediately taken into the FBI as a trained mentalist, criminal consultant and under-cover cop. Working alongside some of the most top-secret projects in the world, Lyra had access to anything she wanted. She was housed by them, she had a Bentley as a company car and never dined in a place that you didn’t have to book two months in advance. She was living the life she’d always wanted, and she would be lying if she said she didn’t love it.
On the morning of November seventh a group meeting was called as everyone rushed into the room at the pentagon. People yelled, some screamed and others just nodded their heads as new projects were passed around the table. It was then a brown file was placed directly in her hands by the head of intelligence himself. Everyone fell silent in the room as the folder was past to her, she could feel the seething people staring at her. It was a battle field working in this office; everyone competed for the best jobs. And here the head was giving her a task person to person. Lyra nodded thankful as she took a step back from the people.
Opening the file she was greeted with pictures, file reports and a list of deaths longer than her two arms put together. As she shuffled the files she realised that this town was corrupt, the name: Charter Oak. As she exited the room she was quick to go to her office as she lay all the information out over her office. The white board which was across the room became a map of people; names such as Dalita Minkovski, Marcellus Minkovski to the Cooper family. Rosie Cotton and Trent McClannahan were mapped out. Lyra stared at the board as she tried to figure out what else was going on in this town.
Five hours later a knock on the door caused her to jump out of her work mode as she looked up to the door. Entering was the Head of Intelligence again. She was taken aback as she greeted him in. It was then he handed her yet again another file – which confused Lyra. He told her he was sending her on her first top secret under cover mission. Alone. He wanted her to move to Charter Oak and live as if she was new to the town. While there he wanted her to get close to the families and get any information she could on their fathers. He also wanted full reports on the people she met. Lyra knew that this was going to be a big task.
The morning after she was packing her things, the bearu had prepared her a place to stay in Belford Manor and supplied her with a fake job at Ashe Memorial Hospital as a filer. She knew this way she would be able to get to peoples files a lot easier.
This job could be good for Lyra or completely the most dangerous thing she’s ever done in her life. But she’s extremely excited. She starts her first day of work in a week of her arrival.

Create An Efficient Home Office
Creating a professional work space in your home takes design detail, planning and craftsmanship. This office is efficient and comfortable.
The spring of 2020 has put great emphasis on developing an efficient work flow from a home office. Historically, working from home has been to run your own business, occasionally telecommute to your employer’s office or handle family-oriented bill paying. Why is a professional-style office in your Madison WI area home so important now? You’re spending your “normal” work day sequestering at home. You’re told to “stay in place,” yet expected to “get your work done.” Here are some ideas for designing your work space and working with a professional remodeling team.
An office reflecting the design and décor of your home is a place you’ll be comfortable working in; a place you’re want to spend time in.
Home Office – Planning For Long-term Success
While blending your new office into the overall house plan is a wise move, top interior designers caution to avoid getting caught up in the style vs. efficiency debate. You have to balance productive working conditions with good looks. Find examples of office layouts in the many available sources – magazines, websites, etc. That is easy, it’s a hot topic. As you review your plans, consider:
Location is critical – You’re likely to spend a lot of time in your new office so don’t underestimate the amount of space you need. Sticking a narrow desk in a closet off a seldom-used guest bedroom isn’t an ideal long-term solution. Consider your family’s daily activities, especially in light of the stay-at-home directives. You’ll need space with privacy, low sound levels and few distractions.
Build around workflow – there are basic building blocks for any professional-quality office: a right-sized desk, appropriate storage (book cases, file cabinets depending upon your personal business needs), furnishings for hardware (a spot for computer printer, etc.) and efficient lighting. Whatever your daily challenges include, plan your new office around keeping them moving. That’s not to say you have to create a boring, uninviting cubicle – especially if your formal office décor has been a cubicle. Here’s a chance to create that “corner office” you’ve always wanted.
A room with a view – if at all possible, find a space in your home with a prominent window. Natural light makes an ideal work environment and a view of the neighborhood provides a welcome release. When you give yourself a break from computer screen time or paperwork, a nice window is far better than a blank wall. If you don’t have a room with a window, or cannot add one, include art work, family photos or a wall map to break up the monotony.
Remodel For An Office At Home
How you plan to use the office and the space you have to work with and your personality dictate what your home office looks like.
When you add a permanent office to your home it’s your personal space. So, there is no need for “institutional beige” walls. Decorate with favorite colors. Bright colors are said to create energy. Colors like soft greens and light blues are said to be calming. Let your personality shine here.
The remodeling process for a permanent office at home often includes:
Installing custom cabinetry
Laminated countertop work area
Custom, built-in desk or computer station
Built-in book cases/shelving
Upgrading electrical outlets to accommodate computers, monitors and other office equipment
Installing cable/internet access
Adding bulletin boards, white boards, large-screen TV for video conferences
Typical remodeling tasks like installing drywall, painting and possibly new carpet – commercial-grade that stands up to chairs on wheels, etc.
A key to creating an efficient work space is organizing around your routine. While the room you have at home could be larger than you’re used to when working in an office cubicle, it isn’t likely to be “spacious.” Here are some ideas to consider:
Use wall space wisely – hang shelves to store papers, books and folders and clear desk space
Corral paper – there are stackers and filers. Some people need baskets or trays to keep papers under control while other want drawer space for folders. Small file cabinets are ideal “legs” for working countertops, printer stands, etc. Get creative with wooden, metal or plastic storage cubes.
Orchestrate technology – today’s office cannot compete without computers, printers and related devices – Smart phones, tablets, etc. There are even a few FAX machines still in play. Making sure your equipment is within easy reach is important. Keeping cords and connections secure is easier with wireless access, but still a concern. Modems and routers are critical too. The rest of the family is likely to want access to the World Wide Web, too.
Make Your Home Office A Personal Space
One of the first steps to create a viable office in your home is to assess your Internet access capacity. Do you have the speed and power to allow all family members to use devices when they want to?
Many office workers are used to being in their space for six or seven hours five days a week. When you’re planning to create a new work space at home, bring in all the nice touches you don’t get in a corporate setting. Get personal.
Timing May Never Be Better For A Home Office
Psychologists suggest you create something in your new space that’s inspiring. Something that’s all yours. In an office building you’re often restricted to what you can and cannot have in your work space. Now, it’s your home, you can do what you want. Include framed art, special photos or a collection of memorabilia. There’s a well-known movie where a major player “thinks more clearly while walking around the room holding a baseball bat.”  You can have the putting cup or dart board you’ve always wanted. Why not?
Whatever gets your creative process started and clears your head when you need it makes sense. No one advocates daydreaming, but a break for “just thinking” is essential now and then.
Just putting a desk in a space room or corner of the basement isn’t a solid solution to a work-from-home scenario. At least not for a long-term engagement. And, many people and companies are realizing a remote work force is as productive as one encased in cubicles. If your career lends itself to working from home, you have the discipline and space to make it happen, consider the stay at home order as a way to test the waters.
If you realize working remotely is an appealing option and your company expands its work from home policy permanently, give us a call at 608-825-4500, or email us. Let’s discuss all the options available for an office in your home. Sims Exteriors & Remodeling can review your needs and evaluate your space. With years of experience, we’re ready to create a productive, professionally-planned home office for your Madison WI home.

5 Most Common Problems During Tax Season and Their Solutions
The tax season is here in all its magnanimity and everywhere people can be seen fumbled, perplexed, and a little overwhelmed regarding the many nuances that there are when filing taxes. The tax blues seem to be looming upon everyone. Even though the tax advisors, professionals and SMB owners take due tax practices with much sincerity, still some nooks and crannies are left untouched or seem difficult to deal with at the very penultimate time. Knowing the possible difficulties that might arise during the tax season beforehand, would help the tax filers and tax professionals be better prepared for the D day.
1. Constantly changing tax rules and laws
It has become a common thing for the tax rules and laws to be changed and altered almost every year or so. Claus is added and removed as the authorities find fit. All of this just leaves the common consumer in an even more confused state. It’s not feasible for the common public to be up and running with every little nitty-gritty that the authorities alter. Tax professionals need to be on top of the changes being made in tax laws in order to avoid last-minute hassles and amp-up tax savings for their clients.
The best and the most reliable source to stay updated on the changing tax laws is Internal Revenue Service (IRS), as it is the enforcing organization for these laws. You can also check out our series of blogs for the recent tax changes and updates. There are a number of webinars and professional organizations that solely deal with such changes. You can always use the internet for the help you need.
2. Tax Filing Errors
Even a minute mistake or lack of vigilance may end up costing you your precious time and facing penalties. Error in filing the tax returns can lead to an IRS audit, refund delays or even penalties. Reports have shown that the error rate of electronically filed tax vs paper-filed tax returns is 0.5% vs 21% respectively.
Thus we see that electronic filing of taxes can be a lot more beneficial while producing the least amount of error.  Apart from this, carefully reading all of the IRS instructions is an absolute must along with utmost vigilance when dealing with calculations, signatures, and personal data.
3. Incompetent or Incomplete Documentation
Fumbling and finding one’s self amidst a pool of documents and receipts while meeting deadlines during the tax season is something that we’ve all been through at least once. I think that I speak for everyone when I say that all of us wish to avoid this situation.
The whole tax filing process could go by a lot smoother if all the essential documents required for tax filing are prepared well ahead in time. Staying organized and maintaining a folder for all the required documents like income statements, business expenditure receipts, previous financial year’s tax returns details, etc. It should be kept in mind that, a major chunk of business expenditures and charity donations are eligible for tax deductions, and due diligence should be paid to such details, in order to harvest maximum benefits out of it.
4. Security of tax information
Security and data breach was found to be at an alarming rate in 2019. Tax professionals stand in possession of some of the most sensitive data of their client’s business transactions and income history. Even a minuscule malicious activity might end up causing huge fallbacks on the taxpayer as well as their tax advisors.
Having to protect the taxpayer’s data is not only an ethical business practice but also a legal obligation for tax professionals. One of the most reliable ways to practice data protection and top-notch security is to get cloud hosting. Cloud hosting your preferred tax and accounting software ensures that there is proper back up of the client’s data and undenied round the clock access. All of this gives you, as a tax professional, a lot more accuracy and extra time to work. Please remember to be careful of the phishing mail and stay updated with warnings issued by the IRS.
5. Scrutinizing Amended Returns
The tax returns that are filed in the current financial year, in order to compensate for the previous year’s errors is known as an amended return. Amended returns are used to correct errors and claim refunds for the previous year’s filings.
In order to avoid any hassle, please compile all of your data in one place before starting off the tax filing process. This would save you from panicking at the very last moment. If there still persists a scenario where you find yourself confused, it is advised that you take professional help and supervision.
Wrapping Up
Tax filing might as well be a daunting and demanding process, but as noble citizens, it is our duty to go about this tax filing process with due diligence and authenticity. The solutions to these problems mentioned above regarding the tax season would surely help tax professionals as well as tax preparers. If you manage your time and documentation well, it will help you in banishing post-tax season stress.  Practice what’s recommended and the tax season would be more of a cakewalk than a rough ride!

Dealing with a missing W-2 or using Form 4852 instead
Photo by Carlos Cuadros via Pexels
It's prime tax-filing time! That's not just my observation. The Internal Revenue Service itself says it typically sees a surge in filings in the final two weeks of February.
One of the main reasons for the rush is that folks finally have the tax statements they need.
Most of those documents were required to be issued, or at least in the snail mail, to taxpayers by Jan. 31. Even given U.S. Postal Service delays, it's now been plenty of time for the documents to arrive.
The crucial document for most filers is the W-2 wage statement.
But what if your earnings statement is nowhere to be found.
There are some steps you can take to track it down or get it reissued. If that fails, though, you can turn to this week's Tax Form Tuesday featured document, Form 4852, Substitute for Form W-2, Wage and Tax Statement.
Before we go the replacement route, though, let's look at ways to find your wayward W-2.
1. Check your email. Even though issuers can drop employees' W-2s into an old-fashioned U.S. post office repository by Jan. 31, more employers nowadays are going digital when it comes to employee communications. That includes tax matters. While security concerns prevent most from actually emailing W-2s to workers, most firms give workers electronic access to company documents, including tax statements. Your W-2 could be just waiting for you to go to your workplace employee portal and download your earnings statement. So check your email box, as well as your spam folder in case it went there.
2. Call your company. OK, still no W-2 in your email or snail mail box. Not it's time to touch base with your company, either by phone or stopping by the payroll or human resources office. If you moved and didn't notify your firm because your checks are directly deposited, your W-2 might have gone to your old address. Give your employer your correct mailing info and ask that it resend the W-2.
3. Get the IRS involved. Tax time keeps ticking, you've contacted your employer multiple time and you're still waiting for your W-2. It might be time to call in the big guns, i.e., the Internal Revenue Service. Start by calling the IRS toll-free at (800) 829-1040.
Before you dial, have on hand:
Your name, address, phone number and Social Security number.
Your employer’s name, address and phone number.
The dates you worked for the employer.
An estimate of your wages and federal income tax withheld last year. Your last pay stub of the tax year should have these amounts.
Once you give that information to the IRS, the agency will contact your workplace about the missing tax document.
4. File using a replacement W-2. You and the IRS have cajoled, nagged and threatened and you're still without your W-2. It's time to file using a substitute wage statement. That's our featured form, Form 4852. This document asks you to estimate your wages and taxes withheld last year. Again, your final pay stub can help provide these figures.
Filling out 4852: Form 4852 is a two-page document, but 1½ pages are instructions. The actual form itself, shown below, is just 10 lines.
The first three lines are for, of course, your standard tax identifying info. You enter your name, address and Social Security number.
On line 4, let the IRS know the tax year for your missing W-2.
Next, on line 5, enter your employer's name and full address, followed on line 6, if you know it, with the company's taxpayer identification number (TIN). If you've worked there for a while, that number should be on a prior W-2 that did arrive.
Now to the fun financial stuff.
Line 7 asks for all that stuff that should be on your W-2. This is, on sublines a through i that are divided over two columns, where you enter your:
a - Wages, tips, and other compensation. Enter here your total wages received. This includes wages, noncash income, tips reported, and all other compensation before deductions for taxes, insurance, etc.
b - Social Security wages. This entry is, for most of us, all our income. One difference could be if you were well paid and made more than the Social Security wage base amount. That was $132,900 for the 2019 tax year. Don't, however, include Social Security tips and allocated tips.
c - Medicare wages and tips. Enter here your total wages and tips subject to Medicare tax. This is all of your money. Unlike with Social Security taxable wages, this portion of the Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) taxes is not limited. You also could even owe the Additional Medicare Tax if you made a six-figure sum.
d - Social Security tips. Here is where you enter the tips you reported to your employer for the year. The total of lines 7b and 7d can't exceed the Social Security wage base for the tax year that you reported on line 4.
e - Federal income tax withheld. This is a key amount, both to you in filing your taxes and seeing if you owe more and Uncle Sam, who's also very interested in whether you him more.
f - State income tax withheld. The form wants the amount as well as the state doing the collecting.
g - Local income tax withheld. For all y'all who live in places that also collect city, county or other local taxes, this is where that amount and jurisdiction name go.
h - Social security tax withheld. This is the FICA payroll tax portion just you paid — 6.2 percent of line 7b — toward the federal retirement benefit. Your employer's portion is not entered here. However, you do need to enter the Social Security tax on any tips you earned.
i - Medicare tax withheld. Just like with Social Security taxes, this is the amount you only paid toward the federal government's medical insurance program. It should be 1.45 percent of the Medicare wages and tips you report on line 7c, as well as the 0.9 percent Additional Medicare Tax withheld on any earnings of more than $200,000.
Again, pull out your final pay stub and use that information to arrive at the best possible estimates of what to enter on these lines.
Line 8 is where you enter information (on 10 sublines a through j) related to income you received from pensions, annuities, retirement or profit-sharing plans, IRAs, insurance contracts and the like but for which you never got a Form 1099-R. If you don’t have complete and accurate information from a Form 1099-R, use a distribution statement from your plan trustee to help complete line 8. For additional information, get Form 1099-R and the Instructions for Forms 1099-R and 5498.
On line 9, the IRS wants to know just how you arrived at the amounts you entered on lines 7 and/or 8. This is as simple as telling the tax agency that you estimated the amounts, used your pay stubs or used a statement reporting your distribution.
Similarly, line 10 wants more from you on what steps you took to get your missing earnings statements from your employer or payer.
For legit filing only: You really are just trying to file your taxes with the correct earnings information. That's why you bugged your boss and now have resorted to filing using the substitute Form 4852.
Some less honest filers, however, obviously have used the replacement W-2 to fill out fraudulent returns. That's why the IRS warns on the form that it "will challenge the claims of individuals who attempt to avoid or evade their federal tax liability by using Form 4852 in a manner other than as prescribed."
Those potential penalties for the improper use of Form 4852 include:
Accuracy-related penalties equal to 20 percent of the amount of taxes that should have been paid,
Civil fraud penalties equal to 75 percent of the amount of taxes that should have been paid, and
A $5,000 civil penalty for filing a frivolous return or submitting a specified frivolous submission as described by Internal Revenue Code section 6702.
Amended return if W-2 arrives: You went to all the trouble to fill out your substitute W-2 and file using Form 4852 and your dang W-2 finally arrived!
In the W-2 amounts are different than what you came up with on your 4852, then you'll need to amend your tax return by filing Form 1040-X using the official document's accurate amounts.
So that you don't have to do the double filing duty, you might want to wait a little longer for that W-2. But if March rolls around and you're still waiting, then you can turn to Form 4852.

Occupation: FBI Special Ops Agent.
Secondary Occupation: Undercover as a Filer At The Memorial Hospital
Standing: Civillian
BIOGRAPHY
Bellamy Keane stood tall at five foot eight with cascading light blonde hair and a smile that seemingly lit up the room every time she entered. The world saw her wearing fine tailored suits, her badge and confidence which emanated from her and the world instantly either wanted to be her, or be with her.
But Bellamy’s job made that almost completely impossible. At the mere age of twenty two Bellamy had experienced more in the world of politics, Cryptography, training, army and secret-ops training than most people who’d spent most of their lives in the field – and Bellamy was one of the most wanted agents in the country.
From the beginning Bellamy Keane had always been the pretty girl who people believed would grow up to be a actress, model or some kind of entertainment factor that people witnessed on their TV. Her mother and father had been happily married for fifteen years when Bellamy was brought into the world. Her mother was a MI5 linguist translator while her father served in the British army. Her family had always been far from the normal house hold. Whether that be her mother running away in the middle of the night to secret projects or her father fighting battles in other countries. Growing up Bellamy had seen more of her nanny than her parents, but she understood that their jobs weren’t like normal parents; her parents were very special in the running of the country. As soon as Bellamy was old enough she pushed herself into the army cadets, training twice a week with them. She’d originally did it to impress her father but in the end she fell in love with it as much as her father did. Any chance he got her father would be there cheering Bellamy on.
Hitting her 9th year of school Bellamy had her heart set on training to work in the army or some kind of secret agency, where most parents laughed; her family did not.
She’d gotten an entire 98% of the entire 100% in the test.
It was evident to the entire team that Bellamy was special; her mind was as quick as silver and she had skills to succeed higher than most of them in the room. Her mother called a meeting with her superiors asking them to take a look at her daughter and see if she could be slowly integrated into the system. Bellamy waited outside the room awaiting the answers for her future. When her mother had stepped out of the doors there had been a smile as big as Louisiana on her lips. Her mother proceeded to tell her that she wouldn’t be working for the MI5 but instead she’d be transferred over to America to work a year in the army, then another two in the ops and cryptology program.
Completing three years in the program Bellamy came out an independent, strong woman who was immediately taken into the FBI as a trained mentalist, criminal consultant and under-cover cop. Working alongside some of the most top-secret projects in the world, Bellamy had access to anything she wanted.
Bellamy nodded thankful as she took a step back from the people.
Opening the file she was greeted with pictures, file reports and a list of deaths longer than her two arms put together. As she shuffled the files she realised that this was based in Seattle, a place she’d never visited before. As she exited the room she was quick to go to her office as she laid all the information out over her office. The white board which was across the room became a map of people; names such as Laurent Alec Meskova, Ethan Summers and many more names that seemed to be growing, information pinned next to their name as she tried to figure out their story. Bellamy stared at the board as she tried to figure out what else was going on in the lifes of those involved in an organised drag racing community.
Five hours later a knock on the door caused her to jump out of her work mode as she looked up to the door. Entering was the Head of Intelligence again. She was taken aback as she greeted him in. It was then he handed her yet again another file – which confused Bellamy. He told her he was sending her on her first top secret under cover mission. Alone.
He wanted her to move to Seattle and live as if she was new to the town. While there he wanted her to get close to the families and get any information she could on their fathers. He also wanted full reports on the people she met. Bellamy knew that this was going to be a big task.
The morning after she was packing her things, the Bureau had prepared her a place to stay in Belford Manor and supplied her with a fake job at Ashe Memorial Hospital as a filer. She knew this way she would be able to get to peoples files a lot easier.
This job could be good for Bellamy or completely the most dangerous thing she’s ever done in her life.
PERSONALITY SUMMARY
Bellamy is a quick minded clever individual whose life is based around her job; she is very sarcastic but sweet to those whom know her very well. She isn’t completely aware of her looks which does garner attention from men and it can make her seem naive or innocent.  She prefers books to people most of the time but is still rather outgoing.

Tools to Stay on Top of Your Taxes All Year Long
This year, Tax Day falls on April 17, 2018. Though the ominous deadline is familiar to most, an established prefiling routine—and organizing, budgeting, planning for the next—often isn’t. However, there’s plenty you can do throughout the year to ease the burden of filing taxes every year. In addition to picks for software, apps, and storage devices, we’ve rounded up several of our picks and recommendations that should help with filing this year—and hopefully with managing your individual processes to make future tax prep, and tax seasons, more tolerable.
Before Tax Day
Tax software
When it comes to reporting your income, there are more than a few routes to take to get the job done. For the fifth year in a row, we’ve chosen Turbo Tax as our top pick for the best tax software. We like its intuitive interface, step-by-step guidance, and easy-to-use bank account importing options that require little to no accounting work from you. If you’re an experienced filer and you don’t need much hand-holding, TaxAct, our budget pick, is a solid alternative.
Portable document scanner
Our pick, the Epson ES-300W, extends to support letter-size sheets but folds down for more compact storage when not in use. Photo: Michael Hession
If you prefer to use a brick-and-mortar tax service or if you have an accountant, you may need to send your documents electronically. A portable document scanner can help with all your e-document prep and also comes in handy year-round for filing away other important physical documents that you’d rather store digitally.
Paper shredder
After you’ve safely scanned and digitally stored all of those documents, getting rid of them safely is just as important. Our picks for best paper shredders can help reliably rid you of important personal and work documents that pile up on your desk.
Desktop organizer
Our upgrade pick, the MobileVision’s File Folder Holder, has ample room for storing files and a small front slot for important items you want to keep visible. Photo: Kyle Fitzgerald
Regardless of how diligent your are at filing or scanning your documents, papers will likely pile up on your desk before you have a chance to sort them. A desktop organizer is a great catchall place for all those tax forms that come shuffling in at the beginning of the year.
Throughout the year
Budgeting tools
Budgeting apps and tools—most of which you can download right to your smartphone, integrate into your everyday life, and use to track recurring expenses—can help in getting you organized for the following tax season. YNAB (You Need a Budget), our pick for best budgeting app, is a great tool for helping you set (and stick to) a budget that’s accessible to newcomers and has helpful reminders and coaching that other programs lack.
Planner pad
This streamlined and businesslike planner is our go-to pick for ample space and setting goals. Photo: Michelle McSwain
Getting organized day to day is a very personal preference. Some people find that sticking to a plan is more effective when it’s written down. In our guide to our favorite paper planners, the Planner Pad was our ideal pick for setting goals and tracking expenses. Its businesslike streamlined pages have sections that help plan your goals, schedule appointments, and keep track of expenses.
Digital storage
Getting in the habit of storing and managing your financial e-files regularly gets you better prepared for the next year. Once you’ve scanned or downloaded tax documents and stored them on your computer, it’s a good idea to compile, label, and securely back up your data. Our picks for portable SSD and portable hard drive allow you to do this and more. They’re easy to use and they provide reliable access to important documents when you inevitably have to dig up forms from previous years. Portable SSDs tend to be more expensive, but offer more speed, durability and extra layers of security.
Filing cabinet
Filing cabinets are not as necessary as they once were but you may still prefer to hold on to some documents physically for easy access. In our guide for the best home office furniture and supplies, we recommend this sturdy and compact filing cabinet. We think you’re better off storing most forms digitally but if you prefer to keep some of your forms on hand, this filing cabinet should suit your needs. (For securing valuables and irreplaceable documents, we recommend a document safe.)
