Without my twin

Well, I go on to fight another day. After my twin’s funeral on the 21st December, yesterday was my first day as a twinless twin. Coming up to Christmas, it is even more difficult.

A twinless twin, is an individual who had a twin but who has died. Whether as a twin you were close or not, the twin connection is very real. You were conceived together, you grew in the womb together, you shared a life and that link never severs or diminishes.

There is no getting away from the fact that my life has changed from being a twin to being twinless. But you never stop being a twin. I was born a twin, I will die a twin, when it’s my time to ‘go.’

For surviving twins, without our living twin, we still see ourselves as twins. I have my own personality, and as an author and writer, I have carved out my own life, but I am still a twin. Losing Sheila hasn’t changed that. I can only describe losing a twin, like losing a limb. No matter how our environment or our upbringing changed our personalities, or changed us, we are still twins.

There isn’t an abundance of research out there to quantify losing a twin, but the studies that do exist, talk about the surviving twin feeling a prolonged sense of grief that is different to that of a sibling or relative that isn’t a spouse.

Pendakian bersama kabut

"naik naik ke puncak gunung tinggi tinggi sekali"

Ternyata lagu itu benar adanya. Alhamdulillah, pada hari sabtu 4 Januari 2020 aku sangat bersyukur karena salah satu bucket listku tercapai di awal tahun ini. Aku bisa melakukan hal yg belum pernah aku coba sebelumnya (naik gunung). Saat aku diajak nina antara exited dan takut karena musim yg sedang tidak bersahabat. "Gimana aku izin ke ibu ya?" "boleh nggak ya?" "aku pengeen" pertanyaan & pernyataan itu yang terlintas dibenakku. Lalu aku berpikir "kapan lagi kalo nggak sekarang aku coba naik gunung".

Aku jawab ke nina "Aku mauuu, aku izin dulu ya. Kapan to?" dan aku nggak mengira secepat itu, ternyata hari sabtu & minggu masih di minggu yang sama nina bilang. (wow it's so fast)

Tapi, aku memberanikan diri izin ke ibu, ayah mau naik gunung dan ibu mengizinkan dengan "yang penting harus bisa tanggungjawab buat diri sendiri". Antara happy, worry, but i'm so exited. Mulai kamis aku berniat harus jogging buat pemanasan, alhamdulillah dikasih hujan sama Allah. Jum'at (3/1) hari terakhir aku bisa pemanasan, aku jogging yang biasanya aku nggak mau kalo sendirian, akhirnya aku pun bisa jogging sendiri.

Sampailah di hari H, aku lebih exited. Walaupun berangkat sore, dan di jalan ada sedikit halangan but i'm so happy. Melakukan perjalanan dengan orang-orang baik. Mendengarkan lagu-lagu yang bikin aku nggak ngantuk, karena aku pelor (nempel molor).

Sampai di Dieng sekitar pukul 21.00 maybe, i forgot, disana dingin yang membuat aku nggak betah untuk diam. Ternyata kita tidak boleh langsung mendaki karena memang sedang hujan. Lalu kita mengisi perut dulu (mie kuah telor yumm) sambil menunggu hujan reda. Setelah itu (22.00) kita siap berangkat.

Saat itu kita bertujuh ada aku, nina, erika, nana, mas rafil, mas ahmad, dan mas ivan. Tak lupa berdoa, pendakian pun dimulai.

Baru awal perjalanan, jantungku udah berdebar keras tak seperti biasanya, nafasku yg pendek membuatku engap. Namun, aku tetap menguatkan tekad "ayo dhe, ini belum seberapa, nanti kalo udah sampai atas mesti kamu happy" cuma itu yg terlintas dipikiranku.

Dengan saling menguatkan, kita melanjutkan perjalanan dan dingin makin mencekam. Tak terasa makin ke atas kabut semakin pekat, malam semakin gelap. Sering kita berhenti di pos-pos untuk istirahat. Dan disitulah aku lebih mengerti artinya perjuangan. Perjuangan untuk naik gunung itu nggak mudah. Kamu butuh usaha, doa, kerjasama, saling mengerti satu sama lain dan pengorbanan.

Intinya sampai diatas pun perasaan capek, lega bercampur ketidakpercayaan muncul "Dhe, kamu udah sampai atas dhe, kamu bisa." disana aku bersyukur kepada Allah yg memberiku kekuatan dan bantuan temen-temen terutama para suhu 😂 kita sampai jam 3.03 pagi.

Bangun tidur dari dalam tenda aku liat diluar terang, aku cepat-cepat buka tenda dan matahari udah muncul. Aku sedih "yaah nggak liat sunrise 😢" tapi Alhamdulillah mataharinya bikin hangat. (iya, kebetulan aku lagi nggak sholat, jadi kesiangan dan aku capek banget). Alhamdulillah aku bisa bobok sekitar jam 4.00 pagi.

Dan cerita pun dimulai... Banyak kenangan yang nggak bakal aku lupakan seumur hidupku. Untuk pertama kalinya aku naik gunung dan aku berhasil. Itu pencapaianmu dhe!

Di pagi yang cerah sedikit berkabut aku bisa menikmati keindahan alam yang Engkau ciptakan. Bagaikan negri di atas awan. And it's so memorable for me. Terimakasih Allah SWT, Ibu, dan teman-teman naik gunungku ❤.
