NEW ZEALAND RETAIN OLYMPIC WOMEN’S RUGBY SEVEN TITLE IN PARIS 🇫🇷🏉
Aotearoa 🇳🇿 that’s Gold 🥇
Black Ferns Sevens are Olympic Champions !
Les Black Ferns Sevens sont Championnes Olympiques !
It is the Black Ferns' third rugby sevens Olympic medal after also securing silver at Rio 2016.
The Black Ferns Sevens are the first women's rugby team to secure back to back Olympic golds. Fiji's men's team is the only nation to achieve that feat before today.
The Black Ferns (Māori: Rarauhe Pango) treated the Stade de France crowd in Paris to a powerful haka after winning back-to-back Olympic gold medals in the rugby sevens. Pushed in the final by a resilient Canadian side. The Black Ferns won 19-12.
Following the medal ceremony the players went to the side of the field with their gold medals on and performed the haka.
Take a bow ladies and keep doing what you do best. Congrats and cheers for the gold medal! 🤩

New Zealand Sevens were officially launched in 2000. They have played in 80 tournaments, winning 50 and finishing runners-up 14 times.

Attendance records for women’s rugby are being smashed quicker than a Blyde runaway these days. At these Olympics, more than 60,000 fans packed into Stade de France for all three days. In September the Black Ferns and England play a WXV 1 Test at Twickenham. With a capacity of 75,000, there is a high chance the game will sell out and break the record once again.

The military history of France encompasses an immense panorama of conflicts and struggles extending for more than 2,000 years across areas including modern France, Europe, and a variety of regions throughout the world.
According to historian Niall Ferguson, France is the most successful military power in history. It participated in 50 of the 125 major European wars that have been fought since 1495; more than any other European state. And has won 1115 battles in total, more than any in the world. Source: Wikipedia, haha. Well, this is my HC for France's body. I really do think he's no that different from Germany in constitution nor in height. They're brother nations, after all. At least Holy Roman Empire and him came from the same Frankish Empire, so. Yeah. Also, in my HC, when there's no one looking, Francis has this very germanic frown, but when there's conscious social interaction, his galo-roman nature arise, haha! He has the best of both worlds. And yes, this is FraPru. They're so underated. And France is in rugby uniform, by the way. They won Rugby World Cup Sevens, congratulations!

The Summer Olympics are here once again, so I am once again thinking about The Old Guard Summer Olympics AUs
Nicky in multi-event sharpshooting, including 50 meter rifle three position, 10 meter air rifle, and 25 meter rapid fire pistol
Quynh in Women's and Mixed individual Recurve Archery, 70 meters
Andromache in (yup, you guessed it) the Equestrian sport of Three Day Eventing, individual and team. She fucking hates the Dressage phase (don't blame me, I'm an eventer too), but she's also got the steadiest hands and the quietest seat in the sport, so good luck getting a lower score.
Joe in.... Football? Rugby Sevens? Maybe Fencing? the Man is too multi-talented, I am open to ideas.
Booker is another likely candidate for Football. Or, interestingly, Handball? Apparently France is like the four-time European champions of Handball. 🤷‍♂️
Nile is another multi-talent, but since Team America is known to dominate in Athletics (344 gold medals!), let's consider her for 110 or 400 meter hurdles, pole vault, maybe high jump? Anyway she's a badass, she could do the Decathlon and make it look like a walk in the park.
Obviously they are all great friends that get up to a variety of shenanigans in the Olympic Villages (of which they do not all belong to the same ones, because who puts Equestrians with Sharpshooters and expects the place not to burn down?). There's shit-talking, romance, broken carbboard beds, you get the idea....
PLEASE SEND YOUR THOUGHTS SO I CAN WRITE SOMETHING

Matildas’ shootout win delivers biggest TV audience since Cathy Freeman
The Matildas have delivered another record-breaking night on and off the field with Saturday night’s penalty-shootout win over France becoming the most-viewed TV event in more than two decades.
The broadcast on Seven was viewed by an average audience of 4.23 million Australians, according to figures from ratings agency OzTAM.
The game’s original slot aired to a five-city metro audience of 2.507 million Australians, rising to 3.045 million during the penalty shoot-out, which ran into Seven’s news slot, with a further regional audience of 1.186 million.
The figure is set to swell even further as overnight OzTAM figures do not account for streaming viewers on Seven’s 7Plus app, which will be released later on Sunday.
The viewing figures eclipse any television broadcast of the past two decades, including AFL and NRL grand finals, Ash Barty’s Australian Open win in 2022 (viewed by 4.1 million), Australia’s 2003 Rugby World Cup loss against England, and Lleyton Hewitt’s 2005 Australian Open final loss.
While data was not tracked at the time by OzTAM, Cathy Freeman’s 400-metre final at the Sydney Olympics in 2000 is reported to have attracted 8.8 million television viewers, making it the most-watched Australian sporting event.
The game, played in front of a packed Brisbane crowd, ended in a stalemate after 90 minutes and extra time, going on to break another record, the longest-ever penalty shootout in both women’s and men’s World Cup history with 20 attempts.
Melbourne handed Seven the biggest share of its audience nationally, 984,000 tuning in from Victoria’s capital, narrowly ahead of Sydney on 931,000, while 513,000 watched from Brisbane.
The fanfare around the Matildas reached new highs this week, the AFL and its stadiums agreeing to air Optus Sport live streams in stadiums before and after Saturday’s fixtures, with crowds in stadiums continuing to watch the coverage as the shootout ran into the first quarter of a Melbourne and Carlton clash at the MCG.
The figure eclipses Monday’s round-of-16 game against Denmark, which was viewed by a metro audience of 2.294 million, and was then the biggest television audience of 2023.
Seven has sublicenced 15 games from Optus Sport, the tournament’s official broadcast partner. The record-breaking viewership figures making the deal a steal for Seven, which picked up for less than $5 million, according to a source with knowledge of the deal who was not permitted to speak publicly.
Optus Sport, the official broadcaster of the tournament on Sunday morning said the World Cup has delivered the platform’s biggest ever four-week period.
Clive Dickens, vice president of television, content and product development at Optus, said the result is a credit to the quality of athletes and football at the tournament.
“Three of the FIFA Women’s World Cup matches have jumped into the top five most-streamed games on Optus Sport, out of a total 6000 live matches in our history.
