Announcing Maycury Week 2022

It's Brian's birthday again and this time he's turning 75! 35 he's totally turning 35, really. We love him very much here, and so it's time to give him the very best we can imagine - meaning Freddie of course!

Maycury Week this year will run from Freddie's birthday, Sept 5 - Sept 11. We've prepared four prompts for each day: a quote, an AU, a situation, and a song.

Rules! It's Maycury Week, so the central pairing should be Freddie and Brian, whether you want that to be Platonic or Romantic. No word count requirements, poetry music and imagery are as welcome as stories, and the prompts are only for inspiration - if you have an idea that doesn't match any prompt, we will be thrilled to see that too!

There will be a collection on AO3 which will go live the weekend before, as well as a round up of Tumblr posts at the end. Please tag everything “#Maycury Week 2022” so we can find it.

Let's get to it! Here are this year's prompts!

Monday - Moon - themes: emotions, instincts, habits, mood, unconscious

Scenario: Brian and Freddie mirror one another's behaviors

Tuesday - Mars - themes: action, desire, aggression, motivation, sex, competition, courage, precision

Scenario: Injury recovery

Song: Seven Seas of Rhye

Wednesday - Mercury - themes: communication, intellect, reason, language, intelligence

AU: Detective AU

Scenario: Rubberducking (Brian explains a problem he’s stuck on to Freddie and figures it out on his own by the end of the explanation.)

-> my first name, Irish Gaelic for “Rory is the love of my heart” , and lyrics from Rory Gallagher’s Edged in Blue from album Calling Card (1976), one of my all time favourite songs ♥️.

Content: This blog is ancient, but I only started using it in 2020 and then it was a Queen (band) account primarily. Now it is a classic rock, blues, western/cowboys, nature and whatever else collection of things I love, I’m always on about my favourite things…

Background colour: Forest Green, one of my favourite colours along with sea blue

URL meaning: death-by-mercury, it’s my original url and I don’t plan on changing it. It originally was referring to Freddie Mercury (hence mercury), and really I just think it sounds cool. But it’s kind of funny if you think of it literally… death by (Freddie) Mercury… it’s supposed to sound kind of like “death by chocolate” or something I donno.

Blog Title meaning: “Damn the Torpedoes, Full Speed Ahead” I am referring to the 1943 movie, “The More, The Merrier” in which Mr Dingle repeats the line throughout the movie, although the quote is originally by Admiral David Glasgow Farragut… so there’s that, it’s a good movie, I recommend it :))
