This month marks the one year anniversary of our successful Kickstarter.
The time has come, a very large and exciting update…
Let's not waste time.
The new Cat Creator update is LIVE!
And on top of that, it's coupled with our first ever live BREEDING PREDICTOR!
Currently, we only feature the three starter breeds. Over the next few months leading up to beta release, we will be adding new content to this demonstration, with Longhairs and Moontails coming first.
Few things of note!
We chose to keep the frontend UI of this demonstration page very limited so as not to distract our small coding team from the important development tasks. While we wanted to deck it out with bells and whistles, keeping it simple meant less time spent slowing down production of the more important bells and whistles that will be present at beta.
Pages like the TOS and lore will make a return in the near future! With everything overhauled, we wanted to “start fresh” with rolling things out.
We also chose to keep the mobile UI temporarily simple for the sake of prioritizing time and resources. Building out the more optimized mobile setup is on our development map.
Night mode will return! We’re currently finalizing the theme colors.
But we’re very excited to show you what we have so far. A lot of nitty gritty technicals went into this base functionality.
From there, the biggest behemoth we faced was our commitment to better quality assets.
The original demonstration was a prototype. One where we experimented, learned the ins and outs of the project, and used our resources to pitch the concept of an indie build-your-own-cat RPG experience. Early on, we received quite a bit of criticism on the visual development.
Once we had wind in our sails, we resolved to take that criticism seriously and come out the gate stronger, more professional, and far more confident than our concept pitch. The team committed to making something out of this world. We love this project, and wanted to put our all into it.
Our patterns now sport a painterly style, which better aligns to the original vision that we were trying to achieve with our first iteration.
After taking over as lead of the project, I learned and improved at giving artistic direction, and we as a team set out to unify the style. I could not be happier with the stunning work the cat artists have produced. What we now have is strong, unique, and cohesive.
It's all thanks to the masterfully skilled artists who worked hard to present what we are delivering today.
I want to shout out every artist who has worked on the assets seen in this demonstration. Without these people, we would not be here.

What's new in the Cat Creator?
Now let’s go over every change you will. Some of these new aspects will be an adjustment. To help keep clear communication, we want to lay out our thought process behind each choice.
1. The Color Wheel
The benefit of a limited color wheel is care and attention to aesthetic fine-tuning. Having every color predetermined for a cat means that there is no unfavorable color-blending between two parents. With preselection, we get more aesthetic appeal. However, historically this system has been limited for two reasons.
We have gone over this previously, so this is a quick summary:
Randomly generated cats with no prior breeding history end up unfavorably mismatched more often than not.
Breeding with so many color selections needs an alternative accommodating system for such a large catalog.
It was for these reasons that we previously wished to keep the wheel small. However, this was at the cost of a great deal of color diversity and representation. As a game about design, we returned to the drawing board to solve these problems rather than just working around them.
To refresh and summarize our solutions:
Generation 1 cats will generate from a selection of color pools, with totally random RNG being one of the pools so as not to lock out combinations. Example: a “gothic” pool of saturated reds and monochrome colors. We plan to have many of these so new cats still sport many different outcomes. And Shufflestones will still organically scramble colors!
We updated our breeding to focus around hue, saturation, and luminosity (also known as “lightness.”) Depending on the categories of the two colors you mix, your outcome will be picked from the same categories.
With these solutions in place, we could think more freely about user demand for color variety and utility. We expanded to a final total of 234 colors.
There are, and this is not an exaggeration, nearly 10,000 hand picked hex codes available in this demonstration; including both pattern colors and custom shadow colors. This was no small feat! It's work that pays off, as these colors can be consistently repurposed for new patterns, which we are mighty proud of. The color wheel was a long term labor of love that we poured our hearts into, discussing every aspect of cohesive design, color theory, namesake inspiration, variety, user demand, and wider aesthetic appeal. We feel that the work paid off!
2. Undercoats
We started with an Overcoat/Undercoat/Accent system which gave equal patterning opportunity to each section of the cat. While this allowed for some pleasing combinations when strategically applied, Undercoat patterns were frequently busy with very little leeway for tasteful design. It was a setup which, while neat in concept, was doomed to fail from the get go. Putting a flat illustration with curves with the body directly over a technicolor pattern was simply a challenging system to make visually work. We dummy illustrated quite a few undercoat patterns and were hitting a wall while making transitions. With a system which expects us to always be adding new patterns, we didn’t feel we could sustain this.
So we revisited the design. We removed undercoat patterns, but added two accents to allow for equally large customization opportunities. This helped to concentrate customization, letting us confidently hone in on and focus on large and small accents for more variety in options.
As previously discussed, one of our goals was to make sure colors worked together with different patterns. With our original system, we had frequent anxiety and strenuous workshopping with patterns like tiger, where darker or same-color undercoats would absolutely decimate the visual. As well, lowering the value of "double-color" cats.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We wanted to keep the beauty of more detailed cat markings, but it felt impossible with the color restrictions. It felt punishing to have so many incongruent combinations to the intention of the design.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A definite improvement!
This is our most radical change, and one we know will take the most adjustment. It comes with pros and cons, but the decision saved many patterns from looking unsalvageable over half of the time due to the nature of designing pattern transitions.
There are and will be overcoat patterns which do not alter the undercoat, and we intend to experiment further with how to best utilize this mechanic.
In general, we try to take risks when they’re necessary for the betterment of visual cohesion and meeting the appropriate expectations for a pattern. We hope you all can understand and accept this change!
3. Line-breaking Accents
We also are introducing consistent line-breaking accents. We’ve made the decision to distinguish line-breaking accents with accessories by distincting worn items with biological modifications.
In short, if something is separate from a cat’s body and can be worn, it’s an accessory. If something is part of a cat’s body, like fur, fins, or claws, it’s an accent.
Overgrowth was created before this distinguishing, so it is an outlier. But this is the rule we will follow going forward!
Line-breaking accents will be available to toggle the layering of in your cat’s outfit editor!
* Note: currently Overgrowths generating together clips and we intend to fix/limit this in the future.
4. White Coverage
White coverage is functional and ready for testing! This is our first live rendition of the real thing, so we’re open to feedback. We changed the “percentage” UX to something much simpler. We feel this is all around a better, more intuitive system.
One thing of note is that Calico as it has been known is not here, intended to be replaced with white coverage and bi-color patterns. We received early feedback that this was potentially frustrating, and are noting that going forward.
Another thing of note is that we are actively working on redundancies and ones which look poorly together. If you see an awkward shape with broken seams, we are probably going to fix it!
Overall, it’s a very cool mechanic!
5. Missing Patterns
Not all the patterns or genes from the old demo are here. Don’t panic!
While simple patterns like Cheeks and Lollipop are coming back soon (we just have to space out our work), patterns such as Cloudy/Day are on the backburner for now.
We want to re-illustrate this concept, but tackling it in our new style is a challenge best left for when we can better spread out our time and resources. Right now, artists are busy busy busy with everything necessary for beta and launch, and these challenging patterns take up precious time and resources best used to get the game in a playable state.
We apologize! It wasn’t easy making this decision, and this pattern is not gone forever. We simply opted for a smaller number of complex illustrations at this beginning stage.
6. New Eye Format
Eyes have now been split between Borough, Eye Type, and Eye palette! This allows you to change physical characteristics while customizing colors! For example, you can now create duo clouded eyes!
To summarize the major changes:
The color wheel was massively beefed out
Undercoats no longer have selectable patterning
Undercoat colors dynamically adjust to the overcoat pattern
There are two accent slots instead of one
Accents can now be significantly line-breaking, and will be inter-layerable with accessories
White coverage is functional
Patterns are missing. Some are coming back very soon, others are shelved to come back at a later date
New eye system allows for more customization
Wahoo! A lot of changes, some more drastic than others, but hopefully all around a competent design experience! Everything we have here is far more strongly in-line with our vision. We sincerely hope you enjoy!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
P.S If you see any colors that look broken: let us know!
So how does breeding work?
This is the 1.0 version of our new breeding system. Most notably, things like rarities can and may be tweaked.
We encourage you to try it out for yourself!
Simply design two cats at the top, then click the “view offspring” button to load the cats into the breeding predictor. From there, you can view their color ranges and randomized outcomes. You will have to click this button again if you change the two cats.
Tumblr media
Luminosity is determined by if the sun is clear (light), half full (medium), or filled in (dark). Colors with a paint drop are saturated, and colors without one are desaturated.
Tumblr media
Is red, light, and saturated.
By mixing these three categories, you will receive differing outcomes dependent on adding the categories together. Think of it like so:
What hue is each color?  The color selection will be picked via available hues. If both colors are the same hue, your results will only include that hue. If the colors are two different hues, you will get multiple results depending on the two. Refer to this chart to help make sense of the combinations:
Tumblr media
Are both colors saturated, desaturated, or both? If one color is saturated and one is desaturated, all your results will be both saturated and desaturated. If both colors are saturated, all your results will be saturated. If both colors are desaturated, all your results will be desaturated.
Are both colors different luminosities? If one color is light and one is dark, the outcome colors will be light, medium, and dark. If one color is light and one is medium, the outcome colors will be light and medium. If one color is medium and one is dark, the outcome colors will be medium and dark. If both colors are the same luminosity, the outcome colors will be that single luminosity.
Using this logic, we can determine that a few examples:
A red saturated light color and a blue desaturated dark color will yield all colors which fit any of the following: Red, pink, purple, or blue hue Saturated or desaturated Light, medium, or dark luminosity
A purple saturated medium color and a purple saturated dark color will yield all colors which fit any of the following: Purple hue Saturated Medium or dark luminosity
As an added feature, we hear that users wish to intentionally pass down similar colors to that of the parents, to make copies of their pretty combinations. So:
If both parents are the same color, that color has an 80% chance of passing down.
This can be workshopped based on user feedback.
Overall, it’s a very fun system!
Name Generation...?
All cats will be generated with a name which can be freely changed at any time. The first iteration of this concept is seen in our breeding demo.
We’re aware the current beta state of our name generator makes some… very silly names! It’s become an internal source of entertainment to laugh at what we get. We’re working on a more polished version that outputs less consistently doofy combinations.
So, what else is new?
As massive as this drop is, we have some other little fun things to share!
Banks, Storage and Safekeeping
We have functionality for a core game mechanic and that is… inventory management!
Items are kept in your storage, with the ability to move your items to safekeeping as a way to remove them from everyday use!
This is common functionality. Nothing exciting. But we have something new to share!
Introducing… banks!
“Banks” are pockets of currency you can keep in your storage. You can create, name, and delete as many as you like! We hope this functionality will be a welcome quality of life for players who organize currency for customizing certain cats, for exchanging items and services, or for saving up for a specific purchase.
Overall, managing your on-site currency just got easier!
Take a look at the functionality.
Scene Building
Scene Building has hit a breakthrough! We have the functionality for the “stickerbook” customize feature. This one tickles me a lot, because it’s so fun to play with.
And as a final check-in, we’ve started on Guild functionality. We have UI designs built out and are moving into the meat. After that, it’s just markets, cooking/crafting, and forums as far as getting the big stuff laid out. Wahoo! Very fun!
To Summarize: We shared a demo drop AND a breeding simulator, resource organization functionality—namely a new feature called banks—and a look at scene building functionality.
What to expect next month: A look at Team and Guild functionality, further assets and mechanic development.

The Strategy of Leadership is Thinking, Vision, and Planning - The Future Depends On It
youtube
Grammar speaks of events occurring in three plains. The past was, the future will happen, and we live now, the present. However, operating in the information age, the age of instant global communication, makes the future now. Gates [1] wrote we are citizens of an information society. He noted that past generations, and past societies found ways to gather information, get more work done, increase life spans, and improve their standards of living. Time was not as critical in those past ages. A message from a ruler may take months to arrive by sea courier. The Pony Express was six days. Airmail was cross-country overnight. The time span between thought and action are virtually unidentifiable today. Although leaders rely on collective knowledge sharing, leaders who engage in strategic thinking, imagining events as happening rather than will happen, allows them to view the present as their personal and organizational future.
This paper considers how important strategic thinking is for leaders who want to shape their future and the future of their environment. Strategic thinking is the starting point for creating vision. Traditional planning gives way to flexible organizational structures that change “on the fly.”
Strategy in past generations allowed leaders time for thinking, sensing a vision, clarifying the vision, articulating it to begin considering action plans. Accepting that the future is no longer an event to happen later, this paper explores how leaders think, envision, articulate, and plan. How do leaders continue to use strategy to their advantage in a rapidly changing global environment? The answer is in the age of possibilities [2]. Today, as never before we are free from traditional bonds of work, we are free to choose our futures as well as shape them to suit our own desires and needs.
This age is an extension of Gates’ information society. We have the ability to choose our reality in a way that never before existed. In the past, a baker’s son became a baker. However, many leaders of the past came from unexpected places. The Biblical King David was the young son tending sheep (1 Samuel 16:11) and Jesus was just the carpenter’s son whose mother we know (Matthew 13:55) [3]. Truman had leadership thrust upon him. These people saw a point on the horizon but events changes their vision. The age of possibilities allows us to rewrite our future as events dictate.
Accepting that we can change as events dictate suggests that there is a less linear structure in this image and a more chaotic non-linear structure. Sanders [4] describes an organizational structure as a known initial condition but the future appears random. Using the model of the “Lorenz Attractor,” she presents a view of interacting and interrelated parts that appear disorderly until a closer inspection reveals the spiraling order hidden in the model. The Gates’ information society and the Taylor and Wacker age of possibilities do not depend on a linear progression of thought and action and Sanders holds the non-linear nature of the new science of strategic thinking allows us to understand natural order on its own terms.
Strategy
Does strategy have some mythical or mystical property? Leaders and leadership use the word in many contexts, perhaps not really acknowledging what strategy is. Therefore, a simple working definition of strategy for this paper is the deliberate means of attaining an outcome, being visionary.Take more info Changing The Future Outcome
Mintzberg, et al [5] explains that strategies inevitably have advantages and disadvantages. The advantage of setting direction is charting a course; however, the disadvantage is narrowing vision, hiding dangers. The advantage of focusing effort is coordination of activity; however, the disadvantage is groupthink. Having a definition of the organization provides understanding of the organization; however, the definition may hide the complexity of the supporting systems. Having a strategy that provides consistency establishes order in a way that reduces ambiguity; however, creative groups appear to operate with little or no consistency.
Strategy involves paradoxes as the above paragraph suggests. One paradox tells us the story of answers and questions, once you think you have all the answers, someone changes all the questions. Taylor and Wacker state this paradox as, “The more you are right, the more wrong you will be.” This contradiction confuses the reader, if you are right, how can you be wrong? How? The speed of knowledge accelerated beyond our ability to absorb it in our traditional learning pattern.
Another paradox for visionary leaders involves predicting the future. Leaders who are successful predictors of the future act as agents destabilizing the present. Taylor and Wacker explain that today’s realities and tomorrows expectations collide. The allocation of resources between present and future “produce a massive future-based political problem with huge consequences for the present.”
Strategy at Work
The State of Nebraska recently made National news with the passage of LB1024 that, in effect, created segregated school sub-districts in Omaha. The bill was the Unicameral’s way to defeat intercity lawsuits claiming “One City – One School District.” The City of Omaha annexed several small suburban communities to its west, provides police, fire, and city services to these communities; however, the communities remained independent school districts.
The City of Bellevue annexed several Sanitary Improvement Districts (SID) to its west, provides police, fire and city services to these incorporated SIDs. Previous mayors and city councils of Bellevue and Papillion drew arbitrary boarders marking the fringes of the two cities school districts in, what were then, unincorporated zones. Population growth attached itself close to Bellevue. Now, Bellevue’s city limits extend beyond the school district boarders. Therefore, Bellevue claims “One City – One School District.”
By passing this bill, Senator Chambers [6] acknowledged formal segregation of the districts. LB1024 created two super-districts, one in Omaha, and one in Bellevue. In Omaha, the super-district has three independent sub-districts. The independent sub-districts have authority over teacher hiring, measures of teacher/student success under federal No Child Left Behind, and administration of their own budget. The super-district has academic authority over the smaller sub-districts.
The strongest supporter of the LB1024 is the State’s strongest proponent of desegregation. Why did Senator Ernie Chambers of the State’s 11th district support the bill? He claimed the Omaha school district is already segregated. Segregation re-occurred with the end of bussing in 1999. Yet, no Omaha high school is more than 48 percent African American.
Bellevue Mayor Jerry Ryan acknowledged the drain on city funds fighting to redraw school district lines. The fight in Bellevue and Papillion is over federal dollars to schools with a population of children of military families. Offutt Air Force Base is located near Bellevue and military dependent children attend elementary and secondary schools in both cities. Redrawing district lines would result in more federal money to the Bellevue Public School District.
Strategic Thinking and Vision
Reading the paragraphs above may leave the reader asking, “What were they thinking?” Recall the paradox of predicting the future affects the present in adverse ways, yet successful leaders operate as though the future is now.
Another view is that nothing turns out exactly as expected. This may leave leaders in an action quandary: Strategic thinking in the midst of shifting paradigms servers to help organizations “identify, respond to, and influence changes in its environment.”
Strategic thinking allows leaders to think in terms of opportunities to innovate and influence their future and the future of their organization. Strategic thinking aids in abandonment of policies and procedures that are outdated, obsolete, or ineffective.
Strategic thinking is having an awareness of what has not yet taken shape, having foresight. Foresight has a facet that is an individual ability and behavior and it can be a process or activity in business. On a macro level, foresight is a global practice. Note, reaching a macro level must pass from micro – individual, through mezzo – organizational, to reach macro. Foresight starts with the individual leader seeing or sensing something better [7].
Foresight is more than vision; it is visionary. Being a visionary leader means being provocative and questioning rather than seeing answers. Mintzberg, et al (1998) calls upon visionary leaders to operate on emotional and spiritual resources, values, aspirations, and commitment. Leaders need a mental image, build a mental model of a desirable future state. The visionary state is as simple as a dream or complex as a written document outlining the dream in measurable steps.
Visionary leaders must next translate the dream of the desirable future state into a vision they can share with the organization. Sharing a vision must be proactive, must be like a theater performance. Mintzberg, et al addresses performance by the leader as a rehearsal. Rehearsal is the practice of the vision, learning everything they can about the vision. Upon becoming comfortable in rehearsal, the leader must openly perform the vision. Performance brings a dream to life; however, performance has no value without the attending audience. The organizational audience views the performance while feeling empowered to mimic the performance. Organizational mimicking of the performance serves as a starting point for transformation to a higher state of consciousness, becoming, as Senge [8] describes, a learning organization.
Bellevue, Nebraska is the third largest city in the state. Eight years ago, Jerry Ryan made his first run for Bellevue Mayor winning an election against a popular mayor. Bellevue’s population in 1998 was about 29,000. Improvements in transportation, cost of housing and housing developments, and growth in retail and commercial ventures has caused an explosion in population to almost 50,000 with an extended sphere of services into not yet annexed developments of an additional population of about 15,000.
In the May 2006 primary, Mayor Ryan [9] ran against a field of opponents. Mayor Ryan ran on the ideal that Bellevue has reached a size that requires a full time mayor devoted to the city. Opponents, all in their seventies, do not share his view. Mayor Ryan won the majority of primary votes telling the city his vision. In interview with Mayor Ryan, he expressed how hard it is to run a city of 50,000 part-time. “Citizens think I run the city. They are not aware that it is the City Council that approves all action. And, the City Council doesn’t want a full time mayor,” said Ryan in interview. “If there is one thing I’ve failed to do,” said Ryan, “is adequately share my thinking and vision within the council.”
In the “One City – One School District” battle in Omaha, the school district argued that incorporation of suburban districts into Omaha would create a broader tax base, allow for creation of magnet schools throughout the district, and more equitably share resources. Senator Chambers, in support of LB1024, argued that schools already segregated would have more administrative control over their districts to create educational opportunities for racially distinct schools by racially distinct administrators. Opposition to LB1024 was high before its passing, the Governor faced strong opposition for signing it, the Attorney General believes it is in violation of federal law and unconstitutional and Omaha’s most famous citizen, Warren Buffet, expressed his strong opposition.
Senator Chambers is the only African-American state senator who is controversial and outspoken. Many of his claims include racially provocative statements against police, school administrators, teachers, and fellow senators. By contrast, to Mayor Ryan, Senator Chambers does not appear to have a vision based on strategic thinking. Senator Chambers’ term in the Unicameral ends in 2008 and he cannot run again because of imposed term limits.
Morgan [10] offers some thoughts on social construction of reality. What he writes is people have images of themselves and these images unfold into their reality. Two leaders identified thus far have diversely different views of reality. One holds a vision of what can be for the city while the other fights against change using deeply entrenched assumptions of the power of others to shape events.
Another person, a division head of a large First Data Corporation region [11], offered some insight into strategic thinking and being visionary. In an impromptu interview, she held that having a focus on what is possible helped her rise within a company at a time when it was having serious leadership troubles. When everyone else was seeking safety, she sought innovation-providing direction when it appeared there was none. Her member services region is the western United States, Canada, and Mexico. She said, “I thrive on chaos. When things look the most confused, I see my division diversified, flattened, with empowered subordinate managers.”
Our dialogue continued on chaos with Kim conceding she manages chaos within set organizational plans and policies. This lead to her admission that she is more ordered in her expectations and spends more time planning than thinking and creating vision.

How QAnon conspiracy theory memes are spreading on Facebook in the UK
Far proper memes from the US are being shared and unfold within the UK. TY Lim/Shutterstock
A headteacher in Stoke-on-Trent informed me that, alongside making certain a COVID-safe return to highschool for her pupils this September, she’s having to reassure mother and father that their youngsters is not going to be forcibly taken away and remoted in a secret location if they begin coughing at school.
The headteacher retains getting despatched a Fb submit warning mother and father to “get up” to the menace within the UK’s Coronavirus Act. “Is that this true, can you’re taking my youngster?” she is requested.
The Fb submit these mother and father had seen started going viral mid-August. It’s certainly one of a number of comparable posts seen within the UK and Australia, and follows a sample in lots of posts linked to the QAnon conspiracy concept. These usually embody a direct enchantment to oldsters, difficult the reader to do their very own analysis to “show” the veracity of the declare, a name to defend particular person rights towards large authorities, elites, or some undefined “they”.
Tumblr media
A part of a Fb submit from August 11 that was marked as false data by Fb. by way of Fb
Regardless of being rapidly fact-checked and tagged as false, this and associated posts which use the hashtag #SaveTheChildren are nonetheless circulating and the phrase “covid act 2020 youngsters in class” nonetheless comes up as an autofill possibility for those who seek for “covid act” on Google.
Learn extra: QAnon conspiracy theories in regards to the coronavirus pandemic are a public well being menace
The facility of memes
For the previous 5 years, my analysis has checked out how strangers discuss with one another about politics on Fb. I’ve centered on 4 English constituencies – Stoke-on-Trent Central, Burton and Uttoxeter, Bristol West and Brighton Pavilion – monitoring conversations by way of public pages, posts and public data on folks’s timelines and profiles.
By means of the 2015, 2017 and 2019 UK basic elections, I noticed the elevated polarisation of these Fb conversations and with it elevated incivility, partisanship and sectarianism. I used to be struck by the rising use of memes and the way a handful of core themes made their approach from meme to perception. Through the 2019 election, I observed how memes from far proper US Fb pages have been being posted and unfold by way of folks within the UK constituencies I used to be finding out.
I just lately determined to discover how the upcoming US election may be translating into partisan concepts on Fb within the UK. I made a decision to give attention to one meme, and the person Fb customers who cared sufficient about that concern to share or remark publicly – and see the place it took me.
So, in late August, I returned to Fb after a seven-month hole and picked the meme that occurred to be on the prime of my timeline – a submit from the group Migrant Watch shared by the web page of UKIP Brighton & Hove. This was constantly probably the most energetic meme-seeders among the many constituency get together Fb teams I comply with.
Tumblr media
The place can one meme take you? Creator offered
I’d discovered hyperlinks over the last election between the energetic seeding of anti-migrant, anti-immigration memes by UK customers and US far-right organisations and people, and so I anticipated to seek out comparable hyperlinks by way of that meme. However the meme additionally led me to profiles that appeared to belong to UK moms and grandmothers participating with QAnon conspiracy theories from the US. This follows a sample seen by different researchers on this discipline, for instance Daniel Halpern and his colleagues who discovered girls and folks with politically right-leaning views extra prone to share conspiracy theories. Different analysis has discovered that excessive political beliefs – whether or not to the far-right or far-left of the spectrum – are a predictor of perception in conspiracy theories, and that motivated reasoning leads us to imagine what we need to imagine.
So in deciding on to give attention to a meme seeded by a bunch on the political proper (or far-right, relying by yourself perspective) it ought to maybe be anticipated to see some engagement with conspiracy theories. What was uncommon, based mostly on the findings of my 2017 and 2019 analysis, was what number of girls have been sharing theories that originated with QAnon.
QAnon conspiracies
Of the 45 folks to touch upon this Migration Watch meme shared by Brighton & Hove UKIP – 27 have been girls and most, from what I may inform from their profiles, have been apparently middle-aged grandmothers. Once I checked out what different content material these girls have been sharing, I discovered memes about anti-animal cruelty, anti-Black Lives Matter protests, anti-BBC proms and content material in favour of Brexit.
A few of the girls have been additionally anxious in regards to the menace to “our” youngsters posed by paedophile rings. And on this they demonstrated the subsequent degree of political meme sharing – freely interacting with content material from each the UK and the US.
For one lady that meant sharing conspiracy theories from Mama Wolf, one of many Fb accounts circulating QAnon content material. One in all these was entitled “Epstein Islands frequent flyers” a hotch-potch of unfounded accusations linking Hilary Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Invoice Gates, Madonna, the Queen, and different (principally black or Jewish) “elites” to the late Jeffrey Epstein, a worldwide youngster trafficking community, medicine harvested from youngsters’s blood, and secret messages coded into Trump’s press briefings on his plans to avoid wasting the kids.
I discovered one of many similar Fb customers who had shared the Migration Watch meme additionally sharing a submit calling for folks to flood the BBC’s Fb web page on August 25 with the #saveourchildren tag. “They received’t cowl youngster trafficking so we’ll carry it to them. It’s time to take this up a degree,” mentioned the meme.
Hidden radicalisation
The bubble communities we inhabit on Fb defend us from various views to our personal, whereas additionally making it simpler for views to be bolstered, enhanced – groomed even – in direction of extra radical positions.
Fb encourages swimming pools of the like-minded, whether or not by way of structure that encourages what the activist Eli Pariser’s termed “filter bubbles”, or what the psychologist Daniel Kahneman known as “cognitive ease” – our willingness to imagine concepts which can be acquainted, snug – simple – to imagine, and to keep away from concepts that may take effort to simply accept. It’s additionally attainable to sport Fb’s algorithms to govern public opinion, because the investigative work of journalists equivalent to Carole Cadwalladr and Craig Silverman has proven.
However seeing a radical meme isn’t sufficient to set off extra of the identical content material, it’s how we work together with the content material that issues to Fb. The depth of curiosity wanted to remark after which share a political thought will set off extra of the identical and, doubtlessly, take the person by way of growing ranges of radicalisation.
An individual with casually racist views can rapidly turn out to be groomed in direction of adopting extra radical views.
It may be tempting to dismiss the anti-mask protesters or teams marching to Buckingham Palace to #SaveOurChildren as just a few thousand cranks in a sea of wise folks. However we have no idea the dimensions of the iceberg – beneath every seen protester could also be 1000’s of partial believers, together with an unknown variety of folks serving to QAnon to develop.

How Hurricanes Have Shaped the Course of U.S. History

How Hurricanes Have Shaped the Course of U.S. History
Tumblr media
Bryan Norcross remembers the moment well. It was 3:30 a.m. on August 24, 1992, and the meteorologist was in the midst of a 23-hour broadcast marathon as Hurricane Andrew, having reached Category 5 strength, bore down on Miami. He suggested to his crew that they move from the studio into an adjacent storage room, which was better protected from the fierce winds and slashing rains that were pummeling WTVJ-TV.
It was a wakeup call for many people who were watching on TV or listening on the radio. “Thousands of people over the years told me that was the moment they realized I was deadly serious,” Norcross recalls. “I had already told people to get ready to get under a mattress in a closet when the worst of it came in. That’s when many did, and four hours later they moved the mattress and could see the sky.”
Andrew was the most destructive hurricane to strike Florida, causing more than $25 billion in damage—about $46 billion today—with 44 deaths. Tens of thousands of homes, businesses and other structures were leveled as sustained winds of 165 miles per hour tore through the region. The storm would have a lasting influence.
“Hurricane Andrew is the storm that changed how we deal with hurricanes in the United States,” says Norcross, who now is a senior hurricane specialist at The Weather Channel. “The emergency management system was completely reworked. The hurricane building codes we use today came out of this storm. Also, it was the best-measured hurricane at the time. So much of what we know today about strong hurricanes is the result of Hurricane Andrew. It was a seminal storm in so many ways.”
The history of Atlantic hurricanes is inextricably linked with the history of this country, from its colonial founding through independence and into modern times. A new book coming out later this summer, A Furious Sky: The Five-Hundred-Year History of America’s Hurricanes by bestselling author Eric Jay Dolin, delves into the storms that shaped our society in ways we may not realize.
“I love the long arc of American history and love using it as a backbone to tell a broader story,” Dolin tells Smithsonian. “Hurricanes have determined some of the things that have happened in our country, including cultural issues, politics and the way society deals with concerns it faces: the women’s rights movement, racism, the evolution of television and more.
Dolin begins more than 500 years ago with the hurricane of 1502. This massive storm in the Caribbean sank 24 ships of Christopher Columbus’ fleet off Hispaniola, the island shared today by the Dominican Republic and Haiti. The explorer, who had seen the hurricane approaching while at sea, warned residents of the Spanish settlement of the tempest and earned the distinction of becoming the first European to issue a weather forecast in the New World. The hurricane was also a harbinger of what was to come for those early colonies.
A century later, in 1609, a powerful hurricane nearly caused the collapse of England’s first permanent settlement in Jamestown, Virginia. Founded two years earlier, the colony was beset with problems from the start and relied heavily on aid from England. During the storm, a supply ship foundered and sank at Bermuda. By the time relief ships reached Jamestown, the colonists were near starvation.
“…Given the sorry state of the remaining colonists, the food on board the Deliverance and Patience was critical,” Dolin writes. “‘If God had not sent Sir Thomas Gates from the Bermudas,’ a contemporary pamphlet published in London opined, ‘within four days’ those colonists would have all perished.”
The meager rations that arrived enabled the settlement to barely survive until other supply ships arrived. One of the survivors, William Strachey, wrote about his ordeal, which William Shakespeare took as inspiration for the 1610 play The Tempest.
Farther up north, the Great Colonial Hurricane of 1635 clobbered the English settlements of Plymouth and the Massachusetts Bay Colony. This storm felled hundreds of thousands of trees, destroyed numerous houses, sank ships and killed scores of people, including eight Wampanaog tribespeople drowned by the 14-foot storm surge. A man named Stephen Hopkins, who’d been on the supply ship that sank in Bermuda in 1609 and later an original passenger on the Mayflower, was serendipitously in Plymouth for this storm.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Joseph Henry’s weather map was probably the first one in the country.
(Smithsonian Institution Archives)
Dolin also cites a pair of storms that even helped the United States gain its independence. In 1780, two major hurricanes blasted through the Caribbean islands within weeks of each other, with the second, known as the Great Hurricane of 1780, killing an estimated 17,000 people. “[This] contributed to the French decision to get their ships out of the Caribbean the following hurricane season,” Dolin says, “which coincided with them sailing north and taking part in the Battle of Yorktown.”
As the nation’s population expanded, particularly along the Atlantic Coast and in the Gulf, scientists and planners sought to learn more about predicting the paths of these super-storms and defend our cities against them. The first “real-time” weather map was developed by Joseph Henry, the first secretary of the Smithsonian Institution. Though not used specifically to track hurricanes at first, in 1856 it used new technology to show the movement of storms across the eastern half of the United States with current data provided by telegraph operators.
“Joseph Henry helped shape the world we know when he laid the foundation of a national weather service shortly after becoming the Smithsonian’s first Secretary,” wrote Frank Rives Millikan, a historian with the Joseph Henry Papers Project. “…When Henry came to the Smithsonian, one of his first priorities was to set up a meteorological program. In 1847, while outlining his plan for the new institution, Henry called for ‘a system of extended meteorological observations for solving the problem of American storms.’”

A hurricane that hit Galveston in 1900 killed thousands.
(Universal History Archive / Universal Images Group via Getty Images)
No matter the plans set out, the science of the time couldn’t warn communities with enough time to avoid the big one, even as local communities may have had the knowledge at their behest. Along the Gulf of Mexico, for instance, locals could tell when a big blow was coming if the crawfish started moving inland. But government officials were still left unprepared when the giant Galveston Hurricane of 1900 sent a huge storm surge that swept over a barrier island. The area was packed with tourists for the summer season and the hurricane killed 6,000 people, though some estimates place the death toll even higher. The death and destruction inspired the building of a nearly 18,000-foot-long cement seawall, one of the first of its kind.
Dolin wonders if this catastrophe along the Texas coast might have been avoided or at least minimized if officials in this country had been more aware of what others were saying about the development of these storms in the Gulf of Mexico.
“A priest named Benito Viñes in Cuba had been an expert predictor of hurricanes during the late 1800s and actually coordinated his efforts with the United States,” he says. “But because the Americans looked down with condescension on Cubans and their science, they didn’t pay attention to some of the signs that led up to the hurricane in Galveston.”
The most powerful storm– with wind speeds of 185 miles per hour —to make landfall in the U.S. was the Labor Day Hurricane of 1935. The Category 5 storm killed hundreds of World War I veterans on the Florida Keys who had been moved there following the Bonus Army March on Washington, D.C. three years earlier. Novelist Ernest Hemingway, who helped with recovery efforts, wrote a blistering article titled “Who Murdered the Vets” critical of the government, writing “… wealthy people, yachtsmen, fishermen such as President Hoover and Presidents Roosevelt, do not come to the Florida Keys in hurricane months…. There is a known danger to property. But veterans, especially the bonus-marching variety of veterans, are not property. They are only human beings; unsuccessful human beings, and all they have to lose is their lives.”
More recently, more and more powerful storms have left their mark. Hurricane Sandy was a late-season arrival in 2012 that barreled up the East Coast and slammed the northeastern United States. Though only a Category 1 upon landfall, the massive “superstorm” fooled many forecasters since it took an unexpected track toward land instead of heading out to sea. Sandy caused $65 billion in damage and flooded many states, including highly populated areas in New Jersey and New York. Power outages shut down the New York Stock Exchange for two days, only the second time in history that weather had caused such a disruption in trading (the first was the Great Blizzard of 1888).
The advent of radar and satellites enabled meteorologists to track hurricanes with greater accuracy and reliability. In addition, modern computers that could predict the paths of storms have greatly enhanced forecasts to the point where weather experts can be reasonably sure of where they are going as much as five days out.
That ability was bore fruit in 2017., when three major hurricanes hit the nation in less than a month as Harvey, Irma and Maria laid waste to coastlines across the South and the Caribbean, particularly Puerto Rico. Damage caused by these devastating storms cost hundreds of billions of dollars with thousands killed. But it could have been worse.
“The only good news to come out of this bruising hurricane season was that the National Hurricane Center’s track forecasts were the most accurate they had ever produced,” Dolin writes. “So, people at least had a good idea of where and when the hurricanes would strike.”

Dolin argues that storms like these will increase in frequency and severity as climate change continues to cause the oceans to warm. “My book does not end on a high note,” he says. “We are in for a rough ride here on out. There is a growing scientific consensus that hurricanes in the future are going to be stronger and probably wetter than hurricanes of the past.”
Norcross, the TV weather forecaster who talked South Florida through Hurricane Andrew, sees an increase in serious storms this year and into the future. He says the average annual number of hurricanes over the past three decades was 12. Today, the figure has crept up to 14 or 15 per year. The odds now favor at least one storm of Category 3 or higher striking the U.S. each season. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicts 2020 will spawn 19 named storms with as many as six major hurricanes.
Dolin says policymakers must not only get serious about reducing carbon emissions but also stop new development along shorelines and enforce tougher construction standards in coastal areas against the changes that are already coming.
“We have to have some humility about our place in the fabric of life and the world,” Dolin says. “Mother Nature is in charge. It is our responsibility to take actions that are wise and protect us as much as possible. We can’t bury our heads in the sand and assume the problem is going away – because it’s not.”

As part of a law firm, one advises clients on their legal rights, legal recourses, etc. on a contract basis; and even acting as their agent in some situations.Best Clat coaching institute in Jaipur - Clat Prep • Judiciary & Civil ServicesFor those who want to work for the betterment of people and dream of handling real power and real responsibility in their work, law offers numerous opportunities in the executive and the judiciary arms of the government. The State Judicial Services Examination organised by High Courts gives you an opportunity to work in the judiciary whereas the state and centre Civil Service Examinations are conducted by Union Public Service Commission and are considered a very respectful avenue to work for your state while enjoying power at the same time. • Research & AcademicsOnce a student is done with their LLB and is inclined towards law as a subject rather than as something to practise, they might follow their inclination by going for a further course like LLM or Ph.D for better understanding of the subject and concepts and/or follow through with a job in research giving you the opportunity to get paid for reading, talking, and thinking about law or in the teaching sector to enhance the future lawyers.Best Clat coaching institute in Jaipur - Clat Prep • Media & LawA career in law and a career in journalism are quite similar seeing how they require ardent reading and writing skills as well as intrinsic knowledge of how the government and the legal system works. A stream of journalism, i.e. legal journalism, focuses on matters related to law like legal proceedings, the current state of law, and precedent-setting criminal matters and break it down to the general public or work on making people conscious of a problem in the first place. It is the perfect opportunity for those with an interest in law and also with a knack for writing or media of some or the other kind. One might choose to work as a news reporter for a news channel or as a journalist in the print media. Keeping in mind how conscious the world is getting about law and how it is extremely dynamic, it is a great field to be in. • Social WorkIf you want to make a change in social structure or society in general, you need a lawyer to draft, litigate or amend the laws for the society. What more can make it easy then being a Lawyer yourself? A  sizeable number of law school graduates join Non-Governmental Organizations (NG0s) that work for social causes. If you are passionate about socio-legal issues, then this is the right avenue for you. Law school graduates are also offered opportunities to work with international organizations such as the United Nations and with international tribunals like International Court of Justice, International Criminal Court, etc.Best Clat coaching institute in Jaipur - Clat Prep Big OpportunityAn acute shortage of qualified lawyers has been a major problem in India. The Bar Council of India has often expressed its concern that young lawyers do not join the Bar. There are nearly ten lakh lawyers in India, but according to legal experts, only 20 per cent of them can be considered fit enough to practice law in courts. Several law schools like NLSIU, NALSAR were established to increase the level of legal education and produce skilled lawyers to meet the requirement. However, India is a country with one of the highest litigation rates among its population and Sir Ivor Jennings termed the Indian Constitution “a lawyer’s paradise”. Talented and learned lawyers never have to worry about their income, but their personal growth.  Not only this, the scope for practising law in India has expanded by a lot since the gates for foreign law firms and corporations have just been opened which would increase the demand for good lawyers manifold. LPOs have started to recruit young law graduates for their processes dealing in US laws or UK laws. Legal education has been liberalized and for that reason, professionals from various other disciplines too are interested in going for short-term courses in law which will ultimately help to raise the standard of legal awareness.Best Clat coaching institute in Jaipur - Clat Prep Recruiters at National Law SchoolsInternational Law Firms• Clifford Chance LLP (UK)• SJ Berwin LLP (UK)• Allen & Overy LLP (UK and Singapore)• Simmons & Simmons LLP (UK)• Herbert Smith LLP (UK)• Khattar Wong (Singapore), etc. Indian Law Firms• Amarchand Mangaldas, • AZB & Partners, • Luthra & Luthra, • Khaitan & Co, • Wadia Ghandy & Co., • Nishit Desai, • Anand and Anand, • Titus & Co. etc. Companies• ICICI Bank• Hindustan Lever• Tata group• Mahindra• Wipro• Infosys• Cholamangalam• General Insurance• Xerox Modi Corp etc. Consulting• McKinsey• Boston Consulting Group • Ernst & Young.Best Clat coaching institute in Jaipur - Clat Prep Legal Process Outsourcing (LPO)• Pangea3 • Evalueserve • Integreon • CPA Global• Mindcrest• SDD Global etc.                                           Other Organizations• United Nations and its agencies• Indian Red Cross Society• SEBI• Judicial Clerks to the Judges of Supreme Court of India• Action Aid(NGO), etc. Educational Opportunities• Yale • Harvard • Oxford • Princeton • Columbia• Cambridge • Fletcher College, etc. Best Clat coaching institute in Jaipur - Clat PrepBest Clat Coaching In Jaipur,Best Clat Coaching In Jodhpur,Best Clat Coaching In Rajasthan,Best Clat Coaching In India,Clat Coaching 2019,Best Clat Institute,Top Clat Coaching In Jaipur,Clat 2019 Coaching, Clat Preperationlawprep, legaledge, clatpossible, lst,Career Launcher,Law Entrance, clat test series, clat website, clat 2019 syllabus, clat 2019 registration, clat official website 2019,CLAT Coaching,Law Entrance,Law Coaching,AILET Coaching,LSAT Coaching,SET Coaching,clatcoaching.com,mhcet coaching, how to prepare for clat without coaching, clat 2018 question paper, clat 2018 cut off, clat colleges, clat rank predictor, clat dates, nlu, five year integrated law,law as a career, top 10 institute for clat for law, important date for clat 2019,exam date of clat 2019-20,distance learning meterial for clat, study meterial for clat, clat Preference list,

Mercy Continues
Even though life has been in the way of updating this blog, that does not mean my thoughts have stopped…nor my experiences as a pilgrim.
My pilgrimage to Assisi, Rome, and Krakow has seemed to have left an indelible mark on my spirit. During my travels, I visited new places and returned to old. I met new people and saw familiar faces in a different light. I tried new things and engaged in the same routine with a renewed vision. I walked through doors of Mercy that have been opened to pilgrims for hundreds of years, strolled down roads in the home town of saints, and stood in silence before the Gates of Hell.  I visited the home town of a beloved pope and listened to the wisdom of another. I found joy in difficult moments and saw hope flourish from the ashes of hate.
My suitcase didn’t come back heavier with souvenirs. I couldn’t seem to stop for a moment to go shopping because I wanted to experience every movement to it’s fullest. I did end up bringing back with me two things: Mercy and Trust.
As it was the Year of Mercy, this is a no brainer.  The Divine Mercy Chaplet was said throughout the pilgrimage, we walked the pilgrimage walk of Mercy in Rome, and in every reflection we heard from the Pope, a Cardinal, Bishop, Priest, Deacon, or Lay Person Mercy was in their words.  We were in the chapel where Christ asked us to pray for Divine Mercy and received Mercy through the sacrament of Reconciliation in its shadow.
Tumblr media
In the Field of Mercy pilgrims could receive the sacrament of Reconciliation. In the background is the Shrine of Divine Mercy built next to the small chapel (green roof) where St. Faustina received Jesus’ message to give the Divine Mercy Image to the world along with the Divine Mercy Chaplet.
Trust was another gift that was given. On pilgrimage, you often have to rely on the goodness and kindness of others. You have to trust others to lead you where you need to go or trust that you can find your own way. You have to trust that you can figure out problems when they arise. You have to trust that you will be able to walk when you feel like your feet cannot carry you any further. The phrase “Jesus, I trust in You,” echoed in my heart with every step I took. When I faltered and failed to trust, those words came back and I literally saw the light (true story: I was looking for a candle during the evening vigil in Campus Misericordiae and started to panic with the thought that I wasn’t going to take part in this important moment. I left my group and found found where they were distributing the candles. Relieved, I came back to my group, only to find that they already received candles. Should have trusted…).
Tumblr media
Me waking up in Campus Misericordae along with a million of my closest friends.
So why am I writing this now? I’ve been back for six months. Why now?
My beloved country is on the eve of a tradition that has taken place 44 times in its history: the peaceful transition of power from one president to another. There are strong opinions and thoughts on both sides. Celebration and fear. Hope and despair. Optimism and pessimism.  Activism and apathy. Civility and bullying. Pulling each other up while some push others down. We’ve seem to be a country of extremes.
While I am not happy with the results of the election, as we were reminded while watching “Sherlock” on PBS, “It is what it is.” We can’t change the results of the election. We just can’t. But we can change how we respond.
My prayer for the United States of America is three fold: One for Mercy, One for Trust, and one for Unity.
Prayer for Mercy: Mercy, as I have come to understand it, is the loving compassion we can show another person, even if we feel like they don’t deserve it. Giving and showing Mercy is one of the strongest things anyone can do. This election cycle has challenged me in this aspect. I am not a fan of the man that was elected president. His words and deeds have hurt me, have marginalized others, and have been against my values (especially on the topics of giving dignity to each human life). And yet I am called to love him as a child of God. I am called to give him Mercy. That does not mean staying silent when his actions will end up hurting others or go against the values of Catholic Social Teaching. It is the duty of every citizen to speak up for the marginalized and give voice to the voiceless.  But we must do it with Mercy. We must speak about our neighbors with compassion and understanding. We must continue to give and be love even if we don’t agree. At the end of the day, our next president is just a human man, with faults and, though this is an assumption, a sad, lonely life. And our neighbors who we disagree with want to find their place in the world as much as we do. Name calling and spewing hate will not win battles. It will only deepen the wound. As St. Faustina wrote, “Be always Merciful.”
Tumblr media
Prayer for Trust: There’s a lot of apprehension and uncertainty within many of my fellow citizens, myself included. Change is scary especially if we didn’t want the kind of change we are receiving. If we are to look to someone’s past as a predictor of what they might do in the future…well, we might have the right to be nervous. Those who depend on the Affordable Care Act for health insurance are right to be concerned that they may loose it. Those who depend on the DREAM act to receive dignity as a worker have a right to be anxious. There is a lot to be uncertain of and we have the duty, the obligation to take action if our neighbor’s dignity is under threat. Even through all of this, we are called to trust. “Jesus, I trust in You,” the saying at the feet of Jesus in the Divine Mercy image, isn’t there because it makes a pretty border.  It’s there because that’s what Christ is asking us to do: trust in Him. Through that trust, mercy can flow. Through that trust, our hearts open to loving others more purely. Through that trust, we find solace and comfort. It’s like when Jesus called Peter to walk out of the boat and into the storm. Peter initially thought that the safest place was where he was standing, on the wooden floor of the boat. When he gave in and allowed himself to fully trust in Jesus he was able to walk out into the raging water and clearly see the face of Christ. We might be walking into a storm of uncertainty and despair right now, but when we trust in God…oh the wonders that we can achieve! Imagine a world of love and forgiveness and mercy. When we open ourselves and listen to what God is calling us to do and to be, we can make something beautiful together!
Tumblr media
Prayer for Unity: We can’t do anything alone. That might need to be America’s mantra for the next few years. I can’t do anything alone. When I push people away, I miss out on the opportunity to learn from someone else, even if it is a clearer understanding of what we disagree on. I can’t do my job without interacting with others. I can’t go to the grocery story without realizing that the food I am buying was placed on the shelf by a person, and before that, was packaged by a group of people, and before that was grown by human hands. Everything I own is because of interconnections of our existence. Martin Luther King Jr. once said:  “In a real sense all life is inter-related. All men are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be, and you can never be what you ought to be until I am what I ought to be… This is the inter-related structure of reality.” When my neighbor’s house is on fire, I can’t stand there and watch it burn because my house might catch fire next. In order for me to succeed, my neighbor has to succeed along with me.  On the night I was searching for a candle, Pope Francis was delivering a homily. I remember very clearly hearing Pope Francis call for us the young people of the world, to do one simple task: Build bridges made of living hands reaching out to each other.
Tumblr media
There is so much good in each other that we miss it when we are focusing on our differences. When we are yelling and accusing, we forget to treat the other with love and respect as God has called us to. What would happen if we challenge ourselves to work with or talk to someone whose political background is different than our own? I’m guessing the bridges of prejudice and judgement would disappear and we will instead gain a deeper appreciation for the unique, loved person that they are. We might even find that we share some of the same values. In other words…
Tumblr media
Leslie Knope is my spirit animal. I once, unknowingly, ate at the same waffle restaurant in Washington DC as she did in “Parks and Recreation.” When I found out, I about died out of sheer happiness.
On this inauguration day, I’m going to spend it doing what I always do: go to work, interact with a vast array of people, and help whenever I can. I’ll probably add in there a Divine Mercy Chaplet (or 3). Join me in prayer if you would like. Exercise your constitutional right to express your thoughts and opinions. Be kind to your neighbor. Be Mercy.
Pax et Bonum  Peace and All Goodness
Vicky
PS: I created a playlist that was inspired by this pilgrimage. Enjoy!

To help applicants with this procedure, a number of platforms and programs have arisen, such as Unacademy, Made Easy, GATE Overflow, and the Eii GATE Predictor. To help with performance evaluation, these systems provide score calculators, comprehensive answer keys, and GATE rank predictions. This is a guidance on how to make the most out of these tools so that you may access the question paper and answer key, determine your GATE 2024 rank, and comprehend the relationship between marks and scores.
Calculate Your GATE 2024 Score The purpose of the GATE score calculator 2024 is to provide a normalized GATE score out of 1000 based on the raw exam scores. This tool assures fairness in the comparison of students' performances by taking into account the exam's varying levels of difficulty between sessions.
Score versus Marks in GATE 2024 It is essential to comprehend the distinction between GATE scores and marks. While the score is a normalized number out of 1000 that enables a fair comparison between candidates from different sessions, the marks refer to the actual marks received out of 100.
Getting to the GATE 2024 Answer Key and Question Paper Following the examination, the official GATE 2024 question paper and answer key are released by the organizing body. This enables applicants to estimate their scores and double-check their responses before to the official announcement of the results.

These resources give candidates an early understanding of their performance by predicting ranks using algorithms and historical data.
A well-liked option for applicants looking to gauge their ranks based on initial scores is the Eii GATE Predictor. Made Easy Rank Predictor: This well-known and accurate tool assists candidates in forecasting their GATE ranks. GATE Overflow Rank Predictor 2024: Provides a community-driven method of rank prediction that enables peer comparison and discussion. Lack of formal education GATE Predictor: Offers a site where applicants can forecast their rankings and obtain practice questions for future planning. GATE 2024 Solutions and Answer Key The official GATE 2024 answer key offers the right answers to the questions, and comprehensive solutions are frequently available on the websites of coaching providers like Made Easy and online learning environments like Unacademy.
Examining the 2024 GATE Rank and Score Card Candidates can view their GATE 2024 scorecards through the official GATE webpage when the results are announced. An essential document that lists the candidate's grades, score, and All India Rank (AIR) is the scorecard.
In summary Candidates can greatly benefit from using resources such as score calculators, official answer keys, and the GATE rank predictor 2024 to estimate their performance and plan their future actions. These tools offer helpful early insights on your GATE outcome, regardless of your goals—higher education or prospects at PSUs.

Sensor Sweep: Kyrik, Earl Norem, Stormbringer RPG, Denny O’Neill
T.V. (RMWC Reviews): In 1973, Tsuburaya Productions released several shows as part of the company’s 10th anniversary. The first one to see release was Fireman (or Magma Man in some markets), which began airing on Nippon Television on January 7, 1973, running until July for 30 episodes.
Warfare (Aeoli Pera): The typical special forces trainee who passes selection has a higher rank (officers were far more likely to pass than enlisted), at least a bachelor’s degree, high general personality factor with extremely high conscientiousness, no children, and verbally tilted IQs averaging in the 120s. This study looks at Ranger school but it’s true across all special operations services in the Western world. Please note that, except for measuring the ability to do pullups, these exact predictors could be used to select head girls for graduate departments in the humanities and social sciences.
Fiction (Wasteland & Sky): Interested in superheroes? If you’re reading this post then there’s a good chance you do! But how much? Check out this new bundle of hero books compiled by immortal SF author Kevin J. Anderson. The offer is for a limited time, so don’t miss out! The description for the bundle is as follows: The Up, Up and Away Superheroes Bundle – Curated by Kevin J. Anderson: If reading is your kryptonite, I’ve put together a superpowered StoryBundle—thirteen books with marvelous heroes, supervillains, secret identities, mutant powers, and extraordinary gentlemen (and ladies).
Popular Culture (Legends of Men): Why do these guys virtue signal? They’re saying this type of thing to other readers of S&S and REH and the pulps. The entire readership obviously enjoys these genres with as much or as little diversity as they already have. Past works cannot be changed and what made them popular once is more likely to make them popular again than changing the nature of what they are. So do some readers feel the need to virtue signal to other readers?
Reading (DVS Press): How many times have you seen a movie and though, “Man, the book was so much better,” or had a friend who read the book say the same to you? I can definitely say that the cases where the movie is better than the book are far outweighed by the reverse – probably in the range of 20:1. In fact, the only writer whose work seems to function better on screen than on paper is Stephen King, and even then there are plenty of books in his exceptionally large canon that are much better than their cinema counterpart (anyone remember The Dark Tower? I hope not).
Science Fiction (John C. Wright): Sometimes in this life we see justice done. The Nebula Awards have just honored Gene Wolfe with a Grandmastership. The honor is overdue, and all lovers of literature should rejoice. Gene Wolfe is the Luis Borges of North America. He is the greatest living author writing in the English language today, and I do not confine that remark to genre authors. I mean he is better than any mainstream authors at their best, better in the very aspects of the craft in which they take most pride.
Culture War (Kairos): This is why they hate Japan. This the material manifestation for why they can’t handle the Beautiful and seek to degrade before they destroy; the humiliation is intended as much to assuage the abuser’s amygdala as it is to afflict the victim’s, a “No You, Christcuck!” retort as they rip the beautiful apart before finishing the job. The cruelty is part of the process by design. The shitlords–God bless you all–at /pol/ noticed that this applies to all of the cultural attacks.
Art (DMR Books): When Earl demobilized, he went into magazine illustration, mostly for the “Men’s Adventure” mags. Such magazines have also been called “men’s pulps” and “sweat mags”. Essentially, they were magazines that somewhat carried on from the actual pulps–which died out in the 1950s–but were printed on “slick” paper. A significant percentage of their readers were veterans of World War Two and Korea who were looking for manly stories featuring action and beautiful women.
Comic Books (Diversions of the Groovy Kind): As most of you know, Groove-ophiles, Denny O’Neil, one of the most influential writers of the Groovy Age passed away at the age of 81 on Friday, June 12. Much has been written about O’Neil during the past week, and that’s how it should be. During the 1970s, O’Neil changed the way we would think about Batman in particular and comics in general forever (in tandem, naturally, with artist Neal Adams, mostly, but also with a host of other artistic luminaries from Irv Novick to Mike Kaluta to Jack Kirby to Mike Grell).
Robert E. Howard (Don Herron): Something I didn’t know much about, was a bank robbery that had occurred in the little town of Cisco on December 23, 1927, over 80 years earlier. The so-called Santa Claus Bank Robbery was a story I had heard about, of course, but the Kris Kringle business had conjured up images of a gang comprised of members of Monty Python’s Flying Circus and the Bowery Boys. I couldn’t have been more wrong.
RPG (Black Gate): Chaosium’s Stormbringer! was a licensed product based on Michael Moorcock’s Elric of Melniboné secondary world fantasy series. The game engine used modified Basic Roleplaying mechanics; in particular, magic worked very differently in Stormbringer than in Runequest. Characters could come from a wide variety of backgrounds; power-gamers preferred certain back-grounds over others because there was no pretense of game balance between them.
Heinlein (Black Gate): It’s almost impossible to discuss Robert A. Heinlein’s The Pursuit of the Pankera: A Parallel Novel about Parallel Universes without revealing and thus spoiling the plot devices of it and its 1980 prequel/sequel, The Number of the Beast—. Heinlein, first Grand Master of the SFWA, for decades acclaimed as the Dean of sf, no longer pleases everyone. Some readers, especially academic critics, have denounced both books as grossly self-indulgent and even worthless. Others, like the brilliant Marxist professor H. Bruce Franklin (in his important 1980 study Robert A. Heinlein: America as Science Fiction) catch the feel of Beast: “a cotton-candy apocalypse — frothy, sweet, airy, mellow, light, festive, whimsical, insubstantial” (199).
Sword-and-Sorcery (Ken Lizzi): I’ve read a few of Gardner Fox’s Kothar books. So when I saw his name on the cover of Kyrik Fights the Demon World I didn’t hesitate to snatch up the book. No one will claim that Fox was a master stylist. Take this paragraph from page one of Demon World. And so Makonnon quested through spatial emptiness into lands that had known him, long and long ago. He sent his mind across unfathomable distances, seeking, hunting, searching for that which so infuriated him.
RPG (Cyborgs and Sorcerers): Vancian Freeform Magic. I know that sounds like a contradiction in terms.  It isn’t.  You’ll see. I love the idea of free-form spell systems because they allow for endless creativity, and for me, creative problem-solving is the biggest source of fun in RPGs.  In practice though, people often come up with a few favorite spells they cast over and over.  This system was designed to prevent that by continually varying the tools in the free-form spellcaster’s toolbox. It’s a noun-verb system like Ars Magicka, except the nouns and verbs are not skills you’re permanently trained in.
Tolkien (Tolkien and Fantasy): The details of Tolkien’s epistolary friendship with the US editor, writer and sculptor Sterling Lanier (1927-2007) are difficult to ascertain, and various accounts differ as to the chronology and extent of their correspondence.  In 1973, Lanier wrote that “it began in 1951” and amounted to some “dozen or so letters we exchanged over the years.” In a 1974 fanzine profile of Lanier by Piers Anthony, it notes that Lanier had had “ten years of correspondence” with Tolkien. In 2016,  a book dealer had for sale six letters from Tolkien to Lanier, plus one from Tolkien’s wife.
Science Fiction (M. Porcius): I enjoyed my recent look at the 1950 issue of Thrilling Wonder Stories with Leigh Brackett’s “The Dancing Girl of Ganymede” and Henry Kuttner’s “The Voice of the Lobster,” so, to take a break from my rereading of Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser, I propose spending some time reading more stories by Brackett and Kuttner from Thrilling Wonder (we might end up checking out some Thrilling Wonder contributions by Brackett’s husband, Edmond Hamilton, as well.)
RPG (Swords and Stitchery): I have used & abused B4 The Lost City adventure & its inhabitants  for years now a venerable pulp  module created by Tom Moldvay.  “”The Lost City” (1982) was the first adventure written entirely for the second edition Dungeons & Dragons Basic Set (1981). No surprise, then, that it was written by the author of that set, Tom Moldvay. ” Today I’ve been thinking about specifically adapting this module as perhaps a starter to Astonishing Swordsmen & Sorcerers of Hyperborea second edition as an introductory module.
History (Outlook India): Tucked into Pakistan’s remote northwestern hills, along the border with Afghanistan, is a cluster of three villages whose residents are still trying to preserve their language and culture in the face of advancing modernity and religious conversion. The tribe, known as Kalash, is said to have descended from soldiers of the army of Alexander the Great who travelled this way in 324 BCE. However, many scholars deny the story even though it has not been established finally yet how these people, their language, dress, and their nature-worshipping culture—in marked contrast to the Islamic culture that surrounds them—evolved and survived through the centuries.
Fiction (Dark Worlds Quarterly): I used to use the words “Pulp-descended fiction” and it was the source of RAGE m a c h i n e Books. I wanted to capture that feeling that good Pulp writing gives you. What that really means is I grew up on authors who wrote during the Pulps and those who followed, they too influenced by those five decades of magazine publishing. The world has since moved on, with television and paperback novels, comic books (now called “graphic novels”). Despite this, Pulp remains with us. Not in the packaging but under the surface.

7 Ways to Change Negative Self-Talk
Let me be the first to tell you that there’s nothing wrong with you. You may have some patterns to unlearn, some self-love to embrace, and some new behaviors to embody, but seriously, there’s nothing wrong with you. If you want to change your negative self-talk, you’ve got to first understand where it comes from.
There’s a famous quote by Mahatma Gandhi, that, in a nutshell says, “Your beliefs become your thoughts. Your thoughts become your words. And your words become your actions.”
So if your actions include binging on sourdough (again), rolling your eyes at your rolls and wrinkles, or subconsciously sabotaging your sleep cycle, you can go ahead and thank your belief system for that. You can also take comfort in knowing you’re not alone.
On any given week I’ll hear my clients say that making a protein rich breakfast takes too much effort. Or that they’re too busy to work out. Or they can’t stop eating desserts. These are all beliefs. And, as we’ll be breaking down here in a second, there’s a big difference between beliefs and truths.
Your Brain’s Role in Self-talk
Here’s the deal. Your brain’s job is to keep you safe.1 Because of this, it will always choose what’s familiar and comfortable over working toward a change that’s different. Even if that change is in the best interest of your health and happiness.
What’s familiar is safe and what’s unknown has the potential to hurt you. At least from your brain’s point of view. And so, it automatically creates negative thoughts (and negative self-talk) to keep you nicely tucked into your comfort zone.
Examples of Negative Self-talk
Here’s a scenario to illustrate what I mean. Say you’re thinking about ordering take out. Will it be a large, extra pepperoni pizza or a thick steak and roasted veggies? Depending on your past experiences and your personal belief system, your brain will automatically assign a meaning to that choice.
If you choose the pizza, your self-talk might be, “well, I guess I’ll be heavy my whole life” or “I never make good choices” or “life’s too short not to eat pizza!!” Unfortunately, that reaffirms your negative beliefs, which you’ll continue to repeat unless you do something to change them.
Other examples of negative self-talk might be:
I’m always out of shape
I’m too lazy
Why bother I never have enough time
Nothing ever goes right for me
That’s impossible
When will I learn
It’s my fault
I always mess things up
Overcoming Negative Self-talk
Reframing is a psychological technique used in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Also known as cognitive restructuring, 2 it allows you to reprogram your brain, changing your pattern of negative thinking — and the way you feel about certain situations, people, places, and things (including yourself).
This is important because, as noted above, your thoughts end up becoming your actions. And negative thoughts very often turn into self-destructive actions. “I’ll never be able to stick to the Primal Blueprint” quickly spirals into you speeding through a Krispy Kreme drive-thru for a dozen maple bars. Negative self-talk can cause a lot of damage. Not just to your waistline or your pancreas either. Having a critical inner dialogue has been linked to an increased risk of mental health issues, including depression.
The thing is, we’re so quick to criticize ourselves and classify our attempts as failures. But what they should really be, are learnings. Take for example, toddlers figuring out how to walk. If they bad mouthed themselves or gave up every time they fell down, we’d have a bunch of grownups crawling around on all fours.
Since they don’t have the stories we do — yet — they don’t thrash themselves with self-talk like “I always fall down” or “what the heck is wrong with me?” They just do it. And then they do it again, learning from their mistakes and building their confidence along the way.
Positive Self-talk Leads to Success
While negative self-talk clearly has its consequences, research shows that positive self-talk is actually the best predictor of how successful you’ll be. In One study, athletes were placed into four groups and asked to use four different methods of self-talk, including instructional, motivational, positive, and negative. Researchers found that the group that practiced positive self-talk performed the best.3 What they learned is that the athletes didn’t need to be reminded of what to do to play better or even psych themselves up to do it. They were the most successful when they told themselves what a great job they were doing.
The language you use creates your reality. So, when you say you hate exercising, do you really hate it, or do you just dislike the workouts you’ve done in the past? If you say healthy food is disgusting, is it really gross or not as delicious as a cheeseburger and fries? If you indulged too much over the weekend are you a failure or are you learning what you need to do differently next time? See where I’m going with this?
It’s all in the way you talk to yourself.
But you don’t have to do a complete 180 right out of the gates. Turning “I want to eat healthier, but I don’t know where to start” into “I want to eat healthier and I don’t know where to start” is a great first step. Changing the but to and allows you to acknowledge your experience and create room for opportunity.
How to Turn Negative Self-talk Into Positive Self-talk
Our brains are often hardwired to see the negative side4 of things, but choosing whether or not to believe those thoughts is always up to you. It’s entirely under your control to reframe those negative, nagging thoughts into empowering ones. Here’s a snapshot of how to do it, followed by a deeper dive down below.
Catch yourself in the act
Name your inner critic
Challenge your inner critic
Go from negative to neutral
Think like a friend
Be willing to be imperfect
Break out a gratitude journal
Ready? Here we go:
1. Catch yourself in the act. There’s a good chance you’re not even aware that you’re using negative self-talk, because you’re so used to doing it — it just feels normal! Building an awareness of your self-talk and acknowledging the fact that you’re sending yourself a negative message is the first step toward changing it. Track your negative thoughts for a week, writing down every time you say something mean to yourself.
2. Name your inner critic. This is designed to help separate yourself from your negative thoughts. And if you’re up for it, give it a silly voice too and say the mean thought out loud. Doing this interrupts the pattern, takes away your inner critic’s power, and creates space between you and the self-sabotaging message. When you give your inner critic a name, choose something lighthearted that reminds you not to take it seriously.
3. Challenge your inner critic. Look for evidence that this mean thought isn’t true. Do you always stress eat? Or feel defeated? Or skip workouts? The answer is probably no. I’m sure there’s been at least one time in your life that you made a choice that benefited your health. Think of the positive experiences you’ve had instead of dwelling on the not-so-positive ones.
4. Go from negative to neutral. As far as positivity goes, it doesn’t have to be all rainbows and puppies right away. However, starting to move from negative thoughts to neutral ones is a good start. Instead of “it’s disgusting how out of shape I am,” you could say “I get tired easily during my workouts right now.” It’s just a neutral awareness. No negativity. No mean inner critic.
5. Think like a friend. You’d never talk to a friend or family member the way you talk to yourself. Well, at least I hope you wouldn’t. Imagine someone close to you is in the situation that you’re currently in. What kind of words or emotions would you use to console them? Or motivate them? When you take yourself out of the situation, it’s easier to see things from a positive viewpoint.
6. Be willing to be imperfect. As a recovering perfectionist, I can tell you first-hand that this is key to changing your self-talk. We’re humans — and while we are miraculous creatures, we’re far from perfect. Having the ability to accept your imperfections allows you to look for what you can learn from your efforts. Plus, it helps you stay on track with your goals because you’re not fussing over whether or not every little detail is on point.
7. Break out a gratitude journal. Research that having a gratitude practice can help you see things from a glass-half-full perspective rather than half empty.5 I started incorporating a gratitude practice into my morning routine a few months ago and it’s a game changer. To help redirect your negative patterns and begin seeing things with a positive outlook, try writing down three to five things that you’re grateful for every day.
I don’t care how much proof you have that you always get it wrong, or that you couldn’t lose fat if your life depended on it. You’re a work in progress. It takes time and regular practice to unlearn years or maybe even decades of negative self-talk and start seeing (and believing) things from a positive point of view.
