Chapter 20: Engagement Party

The last few pins and accessories were put into place and you took a moment to look at yourself in the mirror. It was less that you were concerned about your appearance, and more that you wanted to appreciate Koala’s, and the small army of maids who helped her, efforts in making sure you were flawless for the evening.

Deep blues shifted seamlessly into aquatic greens and back. While the primary color was blue, the green shimmered through the dress enough to catch the eye. The melding of the academy and the Duke’s own colors. Accented in silver, with blue-green gems highlighting the filigree swirls of your jewelry.

Things you were wearing easily thanks to Marco’s arrival not two days after the explosive incident.

As expected, Sabo didn’t send his desk away, and instead stayed in the small infirmary space with you and Luffy for the two days before Marco’s arrival. The man’s arrival was impressive enough, as he’d flown from the warp gate. 

Flying was rare in this world, even with the capacities of magic, and Marco transformed into a massive bird of gold and teal fire in order to do so. It was not a subtle means of transportation.

The man himself was not subtle either.

Tall and confident, he wasted neither words nor actions. He wasn’t rude or haughty about it, but efficiency was a point of pride, as far as you could tell. He introduced himself to you even after being greeted by Ace, and when all three young men had pointed to you, he hadn’t even stepped toward Luffy, despite the young prince being more visibly injured.

“Marco the phoenix,” he had introduced himself with a short bow. “Marco is sufficient. I heal through flames, so please don’t be alarmed, Miss-?”

“A’tana Écaille de Lulusia, but you may call me Lady Lu.” You answered, sitting up on the edge of the bed as he had helped you move.

Beautiful teal flames, edged in gold, licked around his fingers. He barely even set his hand against yours and you could feel the warmth sinking into your body. It took two days for his particular power to heal you completely, and Prince Luffy took two more days beyond you. He was only just cleared to spar the day before the banquet.

As Marco had explained it, his magic mixed with the magic of others, and then relied heavily on their own stamina to aid with healing. In this way he wasn’t nearly as effective as a proper Saint or Healer, but he was a step above most physicians.

He had also been a boon to the reconstruction efforts, utilizing both his unique skill and strong magic to bolster those working on the clean up.

The most time you spent with him was during meals, but Ace, Sabo and Luffy all spoke highly of him at nearly every opportunity. Considering the opinion you had of them, it made Marco a respectable and trustworthy person in your estimation, despite not getting much time to sit and talk with him directly.

Koala escorted you to the hall, and Sabo was waiting outside for you. The banquet was just barely beginning, and most all of the guests had arrived. You and Sabo would, officially, enter last. The only people who would be announced after your arrival would be anyone who out ranked the Duke.

Sabo’s suit was a matching inverse of yours. Mostly white and silver, it was accented in the same deep blue and shifting greens of your gown. The styles were similar, paying homage to the Academy while also incorporating Goa styles - at least that was the official statement on the matter. The style was more a nod to the Academy than not, and what style finished it after that was the Dawn Kingdom.

But not many in attendance would notice, and those that might wouldn’t be likely to point it out either. Lest they wanted to test the waters of the Duke’s patience while a guest in his house.

“You look,” Sabo’s words halt, and you can see pink dust his cheeks. “Beautiful, my Lady.”

Smiling, you accept the arm he offers. “And you are ever the most handsome noble I’ve met, your grace.”

Sabo smiles. “You’ve still not yet met many nobles.” He teases.

“Then, will you ask me after tonight?” You prompt, glancing up at him coyly before turning your attention to the doors before you both.

“If you so wish it of me, certainly.” He replies, and you can hear the smile on his lips, and feel the nervous flex of his arm beneath your fingers. “Shall we?”

"Yes, lets.”

Stepping forward with Sabo, the doors are opened. The announcer speaks out over the crowd that has gathered.

“The Grand Duke Sabo Eldgard de Goa, and the Lady A’tana Écaille de Lulusia!”

You knew that most all of Goa had been invited to the engagement party, and that a large number of people from outside the country had also been invited. You had never had a coming of age party, or a débutante ball. You were the child of a powerless royal, whose only worth had been in your blood, and only while your father lived.

This was the first time you had seen so many affluent people.

This was the first time so many affluent people had seen you.

The general hush that had fallen over everyone gathered was a weight you hadn’t expected to sit so heavily on your shoulders. You kept your expression as neutral as you could, erring a little on the side of the occasional soft smile when someone’s gaze met yours as your eyes scanned the crowd. You weren’t surprised to see Ace and Luffy at the back of the room, the young prince waving at you with one arm as he ate his fill.

You had an entire extra banquet table set up to satisfy Luffy alone, and Ace was keeping just enough of an eye on him to make sure he didn’t stray too far from it.

When you near the bottom of the staircase, Marco steps out from the crowd. He’s dressed in pastel teals and golds, his hair swept loosely off to the side, gathered with a matching ribbon. As understated as it was, you keep expecting him to burst into his signature flames, the light of the hall dancing off his suit as though it meant to catch fire at any moment.

“It is my honor to greet the Duke and his fiancé,” he says with a bow. You can already hear the murmurs of the people gathered. Whispers of him being the Phoenix are already moving through the crowd. “Allow me to be the first to officially wish you both well.”

“Thank you, sir.” Sabo replies, inclining his head. 

“For everything.” You add, also inclining your head. As difficult as it was, Sabo and Koala had impressed upon you for days that the only persons you would bow to during the ball were Sterry and Sabo’s parents. As his fiancé, and as the others were guests, you were not required to bow to anyone else.

Showing equal deference to everyone would give you less to worry about as you greeted a long list of people.

Marco had offered to break the ice, in place of Ace, who was going to need to try and keep a lower profile anyway. The two kingdoms were at peace, but there were rumors that Sabo sought Goa’s crown and would use Dawn’s backing to get it. So in public places the two often kept a bit of space when they could.

“Well, if this old bird thinks well of you,” you turn to see a man who looks like he would be just as comfortable in a bar as he was right now. His suit was well tailored, deep reds and browns, trimmed in gold. The style was unique to you, it was loose and flowed with his movements, but it suited him well. 

His left arm was false, made of leather and brass and magic, but it moved so naturally you weren’t sure you were seeing it correctly - as though it was as real as one of flesh and blood.

“Then I see no reason to worry.” He finishes, bowing deeply with an easy flourish that would almost feel overdone if it had been someone less sure. “Shanks, at your service.”

“Prince Luffy speaks highly of you,” Sabo says with a smile. “Though this is our first meeting, I honor his assessment of people.”

There’s something in Sabo’s tone that feels tense, but you aren’t sure if it’s hesitation or respect. Maybe both, you consider, since you can feel the sharp edges around a man who is going out of his way to appear affable. Marco was powerful, and it was easy to get a sense of that just by being in his presence. Shanks was also powerful, but while Marco appeared truly at ease, you couldn’t shake the feeling that Shanks was tense beneath the surface.

Though that tension wasn’t directed at you or the Duke.

“I appreciate that, your Grace. My apologies for effectively crashing your party.” 

“Think nothing of it.” Sabo looking over to you before you both smile at Shanks. “With more time to plan for the wedding, we’ll be happy to have officially in attendance for that one. Especially as I would like to speak to you about an associate of yours, when there’s more time.”

You could swear for a split second that Shanks looked embarrassed. “Certainly, your Grace.” 

Marco’s and Shanks’ approach of you and Sabo seemed to put the entire hall at ease. The din of conversation bubbles up around you and people turn into their own groups, waiting in turn for a chance to approach the two of you.

You met at least a hundred people over the course of the night, and most of them blurred together. Nobles of Goa who approached the Duke with nervous hesitancy, walking away with smiles on their faces as your words and movements assured them you weren’t under duress. The Lady Lulusia was truly happy beside the cold northern Duke, and while he may be as intense and off-putting as usual, you were sure people noticed the way his expression softened when you spoke.

People from other kingdoms came up and introduced themselves to you throughout the night. They stayed in your mind more than the blur of Goa nobles, mostly because Sabo actually spoke to them.

A young lady with long fiery orange hair introduced herself as Nefertiti Nami, and apologized to Sabo about Queen Vivi’s absence. Apparently her and someone called “Trah-oh” would be in attendance for the wedding, but Nami had come for now, and to keep track of a knight from Germa. The crossing of connections didn’t make sense to you, but when she pointed to a green-haired, severe looking young man in a Germa military uniform talking to Prince Luffy, it made a little more sense.

Something about Luffy pulled at you, and you imagined that pull was fairly universal. Sabo pointed out to you that the knight hanging around Luffy was the very same one he’d sparred near endlessly with, after Luffy, Ace, the Alabasta Kingdom and the Queendom Kingdom had united to help Germa’s king take control during an internal conflict between Germa’s four princes.

Dawn and Goa as kingdoms hadn’t gotten officially involved, but Sabo had been ready to send more aid despite being sent to the border, and King Garp would’ve intervened to save Luffy and Ace if needed. Fortunately, despite the ferocity of the battle, the war didn’t drag on. Germa’s people suffered minimally and in the end the Academy itself was only closed for a couple of months.

A well-dressed young man with a distinctively long nose, bouncy curly hair, and a bright smile introduced himself as the representative from The Queendom Kingdom. He had been in Germa on a diplomatic mission, and to help with the reconstruction efforts, when news of the engagement ceremony arrived. His king had given him permission to attend, allowing the king to focus on attending the upcoming wedding.

The Queendom was the longest journey to Goa, from any capital on the continent, especially since it was located on an island some miles off shore from Alabasta’s coast. 

Two hours into the evening and you’re ready to sit and take a break when the announcer’s voice fills the hall.

“The Crown Prince of Goa, Sterry Outlook IV de Goa!” 

You feel every muscle in your body flinch, fingers tensing. Between getting settled into your new home, and everything around the engagement party, your training, and the arrival of Ace and Luffy, you had never told Sabo how the King, Queen, and Prince had treated you. Sure, you didn’t doubt he had some inkling, and certainly you knew that it wouldn’t harm you to be honest with him about it, but it was still something you hadn’t had the chance to discuss clearly.

What plans you had put together in terms of dealing with Sterry, should he end up arriving, were all centered around getting him to leave with minimal negative impact.

“Are you alright?” Sabo questions. He’s holding your hand, but his eyes are on the entrance as Sterry comes into view through the doors.

“Yes.” You answer softly, squeezing his hand to reassure him. “Beside you, your Grace, I am.”

You step forward with Sabo as the two of you move to greet Sterry. You curtsy as Sabo bows, and Sterry closes the distance between you as he steps off the last of the stairs.

“Up, both of you, it is not my engagement party.” He offers up jovially. There’s an odd tension in the air, an uncomfortable, almost manic look in his eyes when you lift your head to meet his smiling face. Something about it makes you cold down your spine, but you shove your discomfort aside.

No matter what Sterry does or says, you’re not all by yourself while three people berate you over breakfast.

“I was beginning to think you weren’t going to be able to make it.” Sabo says as you both straighten back up.

“I was still convincing the King at breakfast,” Sterry explains, and he almost sounds apologetic.

“Truly, a time when conversations can be most tense.” You offer up with an apologetic tone and neutral expression.

You don’t risk looking at Sabo, but Sterry turns his attention away from you and toward his brother.

“Indeed.” He says stiffly, before clearing his throat. “Is there somewhere we can speak? I realize it’s rude of me to request time with you during your celebration, but I just need a few moments.”

Sabo looks over at you. “My lady, I’m sure my brother can wait a couple more hours if you prefer, otherwise I promise we won’t be long. Tonight is effectively your debut and your engagement party.”

Sabo’s emphasis on the words causes Sterry to shift awkwardly, as the two await your verdict.

“Truth be told, your Grace,” you admit with a smile. “I’m not used to events like this, and having a few moments to sit would be welcome. I shall await your return patiently.” 

“Thank you, Lady Lulusia.” Sabo bends down, raising your hand up and kissing the back of it briefly before stepping away with Sterry. It takes you a second to realize the action had put you in a bit of a daze, but you step away, and find a place to sit. 

You cannot, as effectively the star of the evening, scurry away into a dark corner or step outside, especially not with the Duke no longer on the floor. Instead you sit down at a vacant table that’s easily visible to most in the hall. You’re barely even fully seated when Koala comes over with a cup of tea and a small tart.

“I hope you haven’t been waiting for me to sit for the last two hours, Koala.” You hum softly and she smiles in a way that doesn’t answer your concern in the slightest.

“Please enjoy these, my Lady. If his Grace keeps you waiting too long I shall fetch him for you.” She replies and you smile.

“I’ll not wither away if he takes more than a few moments, so long as he returns.” You assure her.

Having already met most of the attending guests, you weren’t surprised that people seemed to give you some space as you sipped your tea and ate the small treat Koala had brought you. While people were certainly interested in you, most were interested in creating a connection with the Duke, or you and the Duke.

You alone were not interesting, or powerful enough, to be worth approaching. Which suited you just as well.

Though, you weren’t surprised when someone approached you once you were done eating.

“May I have a moment of your time?” The deep voice rolls down your back like warm honey. Glancing askance you can barely take in more than the man’s waist and broad chest. You would have to crane your neck to meet his eyes.

“Please,” you offer, holding a hand out toward the seat across from you. “Have a seat, sir.”

The man who sits across from you is dressed richly, but you know the difference between a noble and a merchant. While this man’s pockets may be deeper than the treasury of most kingdoms, there was no nobility in his countenance. A heavy scar marks him uniquely from one side of his face to the other, cut across the bridge of his nose.

A permanent, if not grotesque, smile.

Rich jewels adorn the only hand he has left, and the deep golden hue of the hook that is in place of his other hand is ornate. The craftsmanship is delicate, and meant to assure those around him that he’s not dangerous, since the fine work dulls what would normally be a sharp and ruthless tip.

“It is my pleasure to meet you, Lady Lulusia, future Duchess of Goa.” He says easily, beginning his introduction with a pleasing tone and a soft expression. As soft an expression as you think he can manage, at least. “I am Sir Crocodile, the merchant king.”

“It is a pleasure to meet you, though I’m unsure why you’re introducing yourself to just me.” You reply evenly. You’re not afraid of the man sitting across from you. Not while you’re here, in the heart of the Duke’s estate, surrounded by his knights and personnel.

But you’re no fool. 

The man sitting across from you is extremely dangerous. Like Marco and Shanks, there’s a power that shifts around him. Where Marco leaves you fully at ease, perhaps solely through his connection to Sabo and his brothers, and Shanks is actively seeking to make sure you’re at ease, Crocodile bothers with none of this.

His words are careful, his tone is as manicured as his look. Outside of the safety of this space, you do not doubt that he would be able to do as he pleased, and your only safety would be whatever resided within the boundaries of his pleasure.

You did not want to test your strength against his if you could avoid it.

“Do not be so dismissive of your worth, Lady Lulusia.” He replies smoothly. “Your father’s accomplishments at the northern border are well-known. Ten years at his heel carried you well through all the changes you faced later in life.” 

You can feel your stomach knot at how much he knows, but you try not to let it show. Knowing your past doesn’t mean he knows everything about you.

“The success you’re enjoying right now is neither luck nor ignorant happenstance.” He says plainly. “It is a mark of your skill.”

“It’s hardly felt that way,” you admit plainly, thinking about how much it felt like you were being led around by your nose when you first arrived in Goa. “But I do appreciate your assessment.”

His eyes narrow, and for a moment you feel more exposed than you did when the good doctor was actively casting magic on you to see what your bones looked like. The tension feels like teeth at your throat for a split second, but then it’s gone, and the oddly soft expression returns.

“While it will be a pleasure to do business with both you and the Duke, I must apologize that I don’t believe I will be able to attend your wedding.” With a single finger he slides a sealed envelope across the table, leaving it just within your own easy reach. “A gift, in place of that, to do with as you please. May you know success as vast as the sands, Lady Lulusia.”

He offers the words in farewell, standing up and bowing slightly before walking away. Once he’s stepped away from your table, Koala is at your side again. You look at the sealed envelope, glancing up to notice that Sabo was on his way back, standing along the upper level and seemingly bidding farewell to Sterry.

Looking back down at the item that was left behind you look over at Koala, who was still watching Crocodile as he disappeared into the crowd with ease.

“Koala, can you take this back to my room?” You request, tapping the envelope. 

“Certainly, my Lady.” Bowing, Koala takes the letter and steps away. If she had a reason to linger you know she would’ve said as much, so you don’t worry about her quick departure.

Your few moments of respite were as far from restful as they could’ve ever hoped to be. You were glad that it looked like Sterry was well and truly leaving, since the possibility of him lingering after Sabo left was one of the largest immediate concerns you had.

Sabo smiles at you as you stand up and meet him near the steps.

“My apologies,” he says, stepping in line with you easily. “I hope I didn’t keep you waiting too long.”

“Not at all, your Grace. I had a nice respite, and only one new name to learn.” 

“Oh?”

“A merchant with a very distinct scar.” 

Sabo stiffens, but then relaxes. “He was invited. I didn’t expect him to approach you alone like that, I apologize.”

“No need, he was…” you pause, brows furrowing briefly. Sabo regards you for a moment and you shrug. “Polite.” 

“That’s as good as one can hope for.” He admits with a sheepish expression. “Another hour then, let us endure it together. Let me know if you need to rest, my Lady, I would like a moment of your time before you retire tonight.”

“Certainly, your Grace.” You reply, a warm smile on your lips as you return to the crowds with Sabo by your side.

The two of you moved through the hall with ease, meeting with more people, stopping to talk to some you had already met, and by the time guests started to depart you were fairly certain you had spoken to the vast majority of Goa’s nobility. In a few days time you were certain there would be rumors about how the cold Duke of the north was finally warming up. It had taken some trial and error on the King’s part to find a good match for him, but the King’s wisdom and tenacity persevered.

It was also possible that it was the Crown Prince’s idea, and that he was coming into his role as future king for Goa. Or so you had both implied.

As Sabo had pointed out before, it was best for everyone if the people of Goa didn’t have to worry about a fight for the crown. After Germa’s recent war, there was a heavier unease over the populous, and Sabo truly had no desire to be king anyway.

When your head was swimming with far too many names again, and the hall was more than half as full as it had been, Sabo excused the two of you from the main hall and escorted you out into the gardens. The sun was long set, and the cool air was welcome against the warmth and lights of the hall. The relative quiet was also welcome, as the constant din of conversation had started to wear on you as much as the number of people and introductions.

You breathe in the sweet air deeply, Sabo right along with you. Both of you let out soft sighs, trying to release the tension of the long party as much as you can.

“There were even more people than I expected.” He says, before turning toward you. Crossing his stomach with his arm he bows toward you with a little less flourish than Shanks had used at the start of the event. “Might I escort you to one of my favorite places in the gardens, my Lady?”

He offers his hand at the end of his question and with a smile, you accept it.

“I would be honored, my Lord.”

There was no moonlight to speak of, but Sabo led you unerringly through the gardens, setting a few motes of light to brighten your view of the flowers and plants you were passing by. The orbs were much smaller than the cantrip you commonly used, and far more numerous.

“They’re like fireflies.” You murmur. “They’re beautiful.”

“Ace has far more flexibility with this technique than I do,” he admits, his voice full of warmth. “They’re not as bright as the usual spell and I don’t want to attract unnecessary attention.”

The laugh bubbles up your throat and you indulge the sound. “I suppose we have had ample attention already tonight.”

“Indeed.” Sabo clears his throat and something in his manner has your face heating up. “And as we have a rare moment together, I wanted to say something that I find has been on my mind… quite often as of late.”

“Certainly.” You barely get the word past your lips, a warmth in your chest holding the cool air around you at bay quite suddenly.

Sabo takes both of your hands into his, and his eyes focus on them, his gloved thumbs rubbing the backs of your hands gently.

“Things as they are,” he begins, a shiver in his voice that makes it difficult for you to look up at him, instead you’re watching your hands same as he is. “The matter of marriage may well be a foregone conclusion, and while this brings me some comfort-.”

You look up at the revelation, and Sabo’s gaze shifts to yours. His face is pink, even in the dim light of his magic flitting about you, you can see the emotion he’s struggling with in his words on his face.

“I find that I am, perhaps greedily, desiring a union with you that is more than one of lucky providence. Emotional connections may be looked down upon by the wide majority of nobility, and while I might not be ready to put a word to this feeling, I know that I cherish it.

“I cherish you.” He squeezes your hands, pressing his lips together, and looking away for just a moment before he looks back at you. Sabo kneels down on one knee. “I will do all I can to see you happy. Anything within my power to keep your smile in my life.”

He breathes in deep, steadying his nerves and looking at your hands again, holding them tightly for a second before pulling a hand away and reaching into his jacket. Taking out a small, ornate wooden box, he flips the lid up with his thumb.

“I am naught but a man before you, asking if you will do me the greatest honor I may ever know.” You can feel the tears running down your cheeks despite all your efforts. You don’t even know when they began to well up in your eyes. Sabo looks torn for a moment, caught between his own fears and your tears.

“Will you marry me?”

Wiping a tear away, you nod. You mean to lean down and hug him, but your legs decide differently and Sabo nearly drops the ring, catching you as you fall into him for an embrace you didn't realize was so desperately desired.

“Yes,” you finally manage, holding onto him and taking a moment to calm yourself before you lean back onto your knees enough to look at him. “I would be just as honored.”

Gloved fingers carefully wipe tears from your cheeks, Sabo’s eyes full of relief and focus. He stops, once your tears are wiped away, and looks down at his hands.

“I… apologize, Lady Lulusia, my hands are a bit of a fright.” He explains, even as he begins to pull his glove off. “But I-.”

Putting your hand over his, you still his actions. “No part of you, your Grace, is frightful.” Carefully, you pull his glove the rest of the way, giving him time enough to stop you if he wishes.

“Thank you.” His voice is soft, and almost fragile. You’re sure there’s mountains of history tucked in the two words, but now isn’t the time. With his gloves off, he gives you a moment to run your fingers over the burn scars.

Swallowing thickly he reaches out for your face, and when you lean toward him, it’s all that he needs. Cupping your cheeks gently, he carefully brings your lips to his.

Dry, soft, shivering slightly from nerves, you or him you can’t tell. The first sweet press is brief, and your tongues slipping over your own dry lips is the only action to separate the first kiss from the second one. This one is warm, far less dry, and far more sure. Heat rushes to your face, and down to your chest, as if your body cannot decide where it’s needed. The shift sends a thrill through you, adding sweetness to a kiss you’d been wanting for far too long already.

It took a couple more kisses between you, before either of you thought about the ring.

Born into Volicas esteemed and only water magic clann, Sivyr descends from a long line of prideful water magic users. As their parents are a polypod (a group of 3 or more zora partners forming a polycule, who often raise children together) their family is quite extensive, consisting of two moms, three dads, 2 sisters, and a fuck load of cousins.

Among their clan Silvyr is the only one capable of performing Ice Magic. It’s believed Silvyr’s ability to perform ice magic negates their ability to perform water magic. Or at least that's the theory they like to tell. Ever flowing, always changing, guiding water into action over controlling its every molecule is something Silvyr lacks.

Adoring their community and all those who reside within it, Silvyr holds an immense sense of duty towards their Domain, and has ever since they were a child. This resulted in them neglecting much of their childhood in favor of training, studying, and perfecting their magic.

Regarded as a teen prodigy during their youth, Silvyr elevated quickly through the ranks, too quickly in fact. They became a knight decades earlier than most, and were still a young adult when they became Captain.

Silvyr’s time as a Captain was especially rough, occurring not long after Calamity Ganon’s awakening and during Link’s 100 year slumber. Due to Volica’s geographical location, it became difficult to defend from the constant onslaught of monsters, resulting in a steadily diminishing knight and warrior force.

Desperate to protect their community and ensure their Domain's safety they made a 100 year lifespan sacrifice (to their deity) to permanently amplify their magic, turning themselves into what many consider a lethal (and slowly deteriorating) weapon.

Again and again they turned the tides of numerous battles, and even made smaller lifespan sacrifices (1, 2, 5, & 10 years) to cast DEVASTATING spells when cornered. Due to this, along with the detrimental effects of amplified ice magic, it is estimated Silvyr has less than 100 years left to live.

Though Silvyr can still cast ice magic, doing so has numerous health hazards and will quickly exhaust them. They can only sustain fights for so long (and prefer to avoid them at ALL costs), and thus reserve their magic for times of need.

However they’ll still freeze the feet of an annoying Diplomat to the ground to escape their yapping. It’s worth the headache.

~ Personality ~

Intellectual, calm natured, collected, fiercely loyal, and somewhat monotone, Silvyr has strong personal morals and leaves nothing to chance. Those who admire them describe them as suave due to their cool temperament, quick wit, and attentive nature, but in private (and sometimes public) they can be quite the frazzled workaholic.

They know the names of virtually every single zora in Volica, and contrary to their cool nature, are openly affectionate! Friends, acquaintances, and sometimes even strangers may receive pats on the shoulder, hugs, greetings via tapping of the snout, and cuddle requests (for warmth during sleep or as a sign of platonic affection) from them.

However you better not get close to them when they're eating, because Silvyr is extremely food aggressive (resource defending)! Standing near them when they eat or requesting them to share food will cause them to lose their temper big time (growling/snarling at others, even threateningly flaring their fins/baring their teeth).

They’ve been food aggressive since their youth, and it got even worse during the famine. They are incredibly embarrassed by it, and will forgo eating around others to avoid this behavior from being seen. If someone does happen to experience it....Silvyr will pretend they have absolutely no clue as to what that person is talking about.

Zora: "But....I saw you, you literally-"

Silvyr: “You must have been imagining things."

Zora: "-SILVYR YOU GROWLED AT ME THIRTY SECONDS AGO."

Silvyr: "I did no such thing. I think it would be wise if you saw a doctor to get your hearing checked."

~ Fighting Style/Magic ~

Once formidable on the battlefield, Silvyr’s presence was well known by others, the signs of their approach impossible to ignore.

First, a subtle chill would settle in the air, washing over one's scales like a cool breeze. Then, as the temperature continued to drop, the bite of ice would fill your lungs, frost chasing your breath.

It felt as though winter had suddenly fallen.

Silvyr's ice magic is inspired by the character Sypha, from Castlevania. How they wield it in fights is similar to her, consisting of ice spears, thin discs that can slice, barriers, large clusters of spikes, and powerful bursts of freezing capabilities. As a result of this, during Silvyr’s time as a Captain the ruby became a standard part of a Volica knight's armor to keep them warm on the battlefield.

Though they do not require water nearby to use ice magic (they can condense moisture from the air), nearby small or large bodies of water allow them to perform bigger and more powerful attacks. However being under water mutes their magic, decreasing its strength.

Notably, Silvyr does not wield iron weapons. If combat calls for it, they may create an elongated ice axe to fight with, but they prefer to maintain distance between them and their opponent(s).

Their biggest weakness is any form of fire magic/weapons (near instant loose, will need to retreat), and close range bulky fighters. Bulky fighters who are high in strength can more easily withstand and shatter their ice attacks, which puts them at greater risk.

They started using hand symbols during their youth when wielding ice because they thought it looked cool. Now it genuinely helps them concentrate and they're super embarrassed about it.

The chips in Silvyr’s fins are from prolonged use of ice magic, where frostbite settled in, causing the fin to shatter after being moved too suddenly.

~ Health / Self Care ~

Excessive use of powerful ice magic may result in adverse side effects, contact your healer if you experience any of the following: Migraines, muscle aches, lowered body temperature, inability to regulate said body temperature, low sanity episodes, lock jaw, fin cracks, excessive consumption of spicy foods, dizziness, shortened life span, chills-

With their body steadily deteriorating, Silvyr requires regular check-ins with their doctor (Nyvor), and frequent breaks. Unfortunately, their self care management is often overridden by their workaholic nature.

They are more conscious about it when outside their Domain (one cannot afford to look weak when negotiating), but when within the safety of their Domain oh boi, do they like to test their limits.

Silvyr has a bad migraine? Well that sucks, but there’s paperwork that needs to get done so they'll be ignoring it until they can’t. Dizzy spell? Ack, they'll sit down later, they need to go talk to a few others first. Muscles aching? Ignore it, keep walking, it never goes away anyway. Sleep? Hah! Just a few more hours….is found passed out at their desk the next morning.

But that's the thing, Silvyr takes care of the domain, and in turn, is beloved and taken care of by EVERYONE within it.

If Silvyr is stumbling around shivering and looking exhausted you BET a few zora have already approached them with the intent to lure them into a communal sleeping pool. Passed out at their desk? There's already a few blankets draped over their shoulders.

Silvyr forgets about one of their medical appointments? Nyvor will track them down and do an on the go medical check in as Silvyr works. Silvyr having a really bad day of chills? Thresh has noticed and brought them their favorite fish stuffed with spicy peppers to warm them up. Silvyr being especially stubborn? Their mates will follow them around the Domain, calling them “their moon” and gently urging them to take a break with them (of which is very difficult for Silvyr to resist, they fold to their mates' insistence like paper).

Some of things they routinely do to manage pains/aches/post magic effects include:

Routine healing sessions with Nyvor (to manage muscle aches & pains).

Frequent trips to the underwater Volcano (extremely warm! Where others have to wear sapphires to stay cool, Silvyr does not. The intense heat is great for their aches especially when they experience chills.)

Eating spicy food, it helps elevate their internal temperature! Visiting dark places (preferably underwater), whenever they have a headache.

Wearing warm clothes (such as a cloak lined with seal fur) or ruby inlaid accessories.

Silvyr’s side effects are at their worst when they are drained by their powers. When this occurs they need a two day sleep marathon to recover, preferably in a heated pool or surrounded by others for body warmth. Beforehand they will check in with a healer for potential frostbite/hypothermia damage.

The WORST side effect Silvyr can experience due to a total magic drain is delirium (low sanity) caused by the onset of hypothermia. It's very rare for this to occur, but when it does Silvyr will require the complete assistance of others, as they'll have difficulty comprehending where they are, and may say some pretty inane things.

(Don't let the above fool you though! In terms of battle Silvyr can still hold their own, it takes quite a bit of magic to reach a total drain. Still, they try to avoid battle to the highest extent possible, as the more they use their magic the worse the side effects and the faster they deteriorate.)

Due to their lowered body temperature Silvyr feels perpetually cold when on land, and (to a lesser degree) in water. As a result they can ALWAYS be found cuddling other zora(s) for warmth while sleeping. Everyone in the Domain loves it, no complaints.

If around strangers, Silvyr will initiate contact with a gentle touch to the arm, silently requesting the others companionship. If accepted, that zora WILL be cuddled till morning.

In short, Silvyr is someone who puts the safety, health, and happiness of their Domain and its residents before themselves, as seeing everyone thrive brings them unending happiness.

Even when it comes at their own expense.

~ Mates ~

Silvyr is polyamorus, and much like their parents engages in polypod behavior, where they take multiple mates, some of which are also mated to each other.

Currently their mates include:

Verona, Marishka, Aleera (names inspired by Dracula's three wives). These three lovely ladies are also mated to each other, and a force to be reckoned with. Silvyr’s wives consider them a silver tongued charmer, and often refer to them as “their moon. They help manage the Domain alongside Silvyr with their respective talents.

Axel ( @vaquero-azul-art ): Pirate Captain zora. These two met after Axel was hired to assassinate Silvyr by the Domain that Volica’s previous King came from.

Kael ( @squibbl3 ): Leafy Seadragon zora. These two met when Kael, who is a traveling merchant, came to sell their food inventory at the Domain not long after the coup.

~ Other Facts ~

Due to the community care they put into the Domain, Silvyr is very popular and ranks #1 in the leaderboard of most favored fish!

Sometimes zoran miners (overheated and fresh from the volcanic mines) will hide and wait around corners for Silvyr to show up, and then proceed to dog pile on top of them since their body temp is so cold. Miners also seek them out for hugs to cool down.

LOVES spicy food. Will straight up wolf down a bag of RAW ghost peppers and be completely unbothered.

Has INSANE memory recall. Silvyr can recall things down to the specifics of that day so sometimes….

Silvyr: Thresh I swear to Hylia stop testing my limits.

Thresh: Aw commonnnn I'm not that baddd.

Silvyr: Yes you are.

Silvyr: The date was 95 A.C. It was a cool summers day, wind approximately 10 mph and around 75 degrees. We were in the green pasture approximately 10 miles from the Domain, and I was facing approximately 30 degrees NE, you-

~ Relationships with Others ~

Thresh: A best friend. These two enjoy squabbling and getting on each other's nerves. You would think with the way these two rag on each other that they dislike each other, but it's actually the opposite.

Thresh was Silvyr's first friend. Throughout their youth Silvyr politely pushed others away in favor of their duties, but Thresh, who is one stubbornly persistent fucker, broke past their barriers when he approached them for courtship (and by breaking past barriers I mean breaking their arm in a duel for courtship rights, they didn't even know eachother before that moment.).

Their breakup (though amicable) became the talk of the Domain for decades and people still speculate how and why it occurred.

Nyvor: Nyvor has been a low-key blessing in Silvyr's life, acting as both a friend and doctor to them. These two have a lot of deep discussions, and Silvyr always relaxes within Nyvor's presence.

Fen'an: Silvyr views Fen'an as a bit of an unconventional, yet excellent, informant due to the actions she took to uncover corruption within the Domain. Before then they only knew her via extension of Thresh, but during Thresh's and Nyvor's absence they grew closer and now they consider her a trustworthy friend (whom they occasionally have to diplomatically break out of jail when she does wild shit in other Domains).

Pokeballs vs. Capture Stylers

As a ranger, it is my deeply held belief, based on observation and experience, that Pokeballs are an under-estimated danger to pokemon and the environment. They can cause harm even when used properly and with good intentions. When used by someone with criminal or otherwise nefarious intent, they make causing harm ludicrously easy. Let's do a little comparison, shall we?

How do you get it? Pokeballs can be bought for money in Pokemarts, and are often handed out for free at promotional events. Capture stylers are given only to certified rangers.

What about more advanced versions? Some types of Pokeball require a certain number of League badges to purchase. Others are gated only by cost alone. Capture stylers have built-in limits that can be gradually removed by senior rangers once a ranger has proven experience and risen in rank.

Who regulates it? Pokeballs are produced by the Silph and Devon corporations. While they have some cooperation with the Pokemon League, and are regulated by government, their fundamental motivation is profit. Capture Stylers are regulared by the Ranger Union. Even if one could mass-capture using a styler, it would not benefit the Union to do so.

How many pokemon can you catch? While league battles allow only a fighting team of six, a person can buy and own as many pokeballs as they can carry. Even for the highest-ranked rangers, the maximum number of friend Pokemon is 7.

Can you take pokemon somewhere unsafe for them/the environment? Capture stylers prevent taking a pokemon out of it's native habitat, a limitation removed only for Top Rangers. A brand-new trainer could catch a magikarp and then immediately release it into the desert if they wanted.

What happens if you capture a wild pokemon? With a pokeball, the pokemon is now permanently registered as captured by the trainer. It can be released. Depending on the training experience, it may or may not be safe/appropriate to release back into the wild, even in its native habitat. With a capture styler, the pokemon remains wild. It can temporarily assist a ranger, and then return immediately to its natural environment and behaviors.

What if you try to catch someone else's pokemon? A pokeball prevents re-capture of an already registered pokemon. A capture styler can be used to capture an owned pokemon (this is often done to return lost pokemon, or soothe agitated or injured ones) but it does not change the ownership of the Pokemon.

Is there skill involved? There is strategy in Pokeball capturing, especially via battle. But theoretically, one could still bombard even a legendary pokemon with enough pokeballs and capture it by sheer statistical chance. Proper use of a capture styler requires education and training. Even if someone stole a capture styler, they would not automatically be able to use it.

What if someone "bad" tries to catch a pokemon? Anyone can buy and use a pokeball regardless of intentions. A capture styler conveys the intentions of the ranger. No matter how skilled/experienced, a person could not capture a pokemon they wished to harm in an unmodified/unhacked styler.

What about evil teams? Criminal organizations where pokeballs are readily available (Johto, Kanto, Hoenn, etc.) have simply used regular pokeballs for purposes of robbery, poaching, etc. Evil teams in regions where capture stylers are popular (Fiore, Almia, and Oblivia) have either heavily modified an experimental styler (Super Stylers) or needed to invent and produce an entirely new capture system (Gigaremo, Capture Gauntlet). This vastly limited available supply to team members, and speed of plans. I'm going to repeat that bit. Without access to pokeballs, evil teams found it easier to make, manufacture and distribute their own inventions than to use capture stylers for crime.

What happens if you defeat a criminal using a pokemon? Defeating a criminal (such as an evil team member) in a trainer battle may lead to an arrest, but they may also run away and keep the pokemon they own. When using a styler to capture pokemon controlled by other means (e.g. gigaremo units) the pokemon return to the wild.

You see why I think it's insane that of these two methods, one is meticulously regulated, and the other can be bought for pocket change at a corner store? In case anyone lacks reading comprehension, I'm not saying pokeballs make people evil. But it is a hell of a lot easier to commit crimes like mass trafficking with pokeballs than with stylers. And even well meaning, perfectly nice people can do things like drastically alter local pokemon populations by catching many in a short time span, or releasing them inappropriately. Pokeballs are insane and I'm so tired of people thinking I'm the weird one for saying so.

Baek Yoon-Ho Character Analysis

Might do part two of him later on as well. The next person I might analyze is either one of the other Korean S-Ranks (maybe Lim Tae-Gyu) or anyone else people want.

Baek Yoon-Ho's intelligence

Baek Yoon-Ho shows a lot of critical thinking when he's prevented from rushing into things. During the Red Gate incident, Yoon-Ho couldn't enter the gate and had to wait to see if the hunters would make it out. Because of this, he was shown to be able to estimate how many hunters would be needed for a gate depending on its rank. While this information could be common knowledge or from his own experience, he knew the specific amount and types of ranks needed for different gates. This shows that he knows what is required for gates and doesn't just haphazardly assign hunters to gates without being aware of what is needed to close a gate

Another time Yoon-Ho is shown to be able to plan ahead well is after he encounters Sung Jin-Woo. Yoon-Ho knew that Jin-Woo was not an E-Rank from his demeanor and by seeing his mana with his Beast Eyes, but he did not know why he was hiding it. However, based on this discrepancy, Yoon-Ho determined that Jin-Woo would likely go for a reevaluation of his rank and told one of the employees there to keep an eye out for Jin-Woo, so he could contact him again (Though he was caught off guard by how sudden it was. Yoon-Ho's not that great at dealing with unexpected situations as shown below in point 4)

He's likely as smart as Choi Jong-In (mostly because Jong-In probably wouldn't waste his time arguing with an actual idiot as it is shown that he usually dismisses people like that) but tends to react before he thinks whereas Jong-In has a stronger grasp on his emotions, which Jong-In tends to use to his advantage to make Yoon-Ho look stupid (I mean it works-)

Basically he's smart, but I call him stupid affectionally because of how he acts rather than his actual intelligence

2. Baek Yoon-Ho's perceptiveness

Yoon-Ho is shown to be perceptive throughout the manhwa. While his Beast Eyes are a part of it, he's able to draw accurate conclusions from what he sees rather than thinking of something unreasonable. Yoon-Ho noticed that his employee was covering for Jin-Woo while Hwang Dong-Soo was also looking for him. He knew there had to be a reason he was covering for Jin-Woo yet did not ask at that moment because of Hwang Dong-Soo. Despite not being able to keep his emotions hidden well (explored more below in point 4), he knows what should or shouldn't be said depending on the situation. This can lead to people underestimating how strong he is despite his appearance

He was also the first character to figure out that Jin-Woo could be stronger and wasn't limited like other hunters. It's not something Yoon-Ho mentions or directly asks him though as he likely knows Jin-Woo wants to hide it since Yoon-Ho understands that he wants to avoid attention from the media based on how he's seen of Jin-Woo so far

3. Baek Yoon-Ho's protectiveness

Before he became a hunter, Yoon-Ho was a firefighter. While there's not much about what he did as a firefighter (or maybe there is in the novels and I just don't know about it), as a hunter, Yoon-Ho is shown to be protective of those around him. It's fairly subtle, but it seems to be more evident when he's agitated

During the Red Gate incident when Hwang Dong-Soo arrived, Yoon-Ho was clearly unhappy with him being there but was able to tolerate him. But when Hwang Dong-Soo went after one of the employees, that's when he truly got angry and was willing to fight Hwang Dong-Soo if it meant he would leave them alone

Yoon-Ho was also shown to be openly worried about the guild members stuck in the Red Gate, including Yoon-Ho rushing to the gate right away despite knowing he wouldn't be able to do anything. Even though he couldn't do anything other than wait, he chose to wait directly outside the gate although he could have waited somewhere else

4. Baek Yoon-Ho's emotions

Yoon-Ho has a tendency to react based on his emotions first before assessing the situation and thinking about what he should do. While he is usually calm at first, as soon as something ticks him off, he's more than willing to fight, physically or verbally (Sir, you're in your thirties, aren't you too old for this-)

As such, whenever he's caught off guard, he reacts based on his emotions first before calming down enough to think about what he should do. It's typically shown on his face what he's feeling, which can make it easier to read him

It seems like the emotion he feels the most often and easily is anger given the number of times other people have made him mad (I mean, Jin-Woo managed to make him angry in the first minute of meeting him. Jong-In did it without even talking to him-). It's likely because of this that he's usually seen to be frowning throughout the manhwa. Typically, while it's shown on his face when he's angered, it's clear he makes an effort to not verbally lash out at the other person by the way he clenches his jaw

I thought Jong-In was the more emotional one between the two, but it looks like it's Yoon-Ho

5. Baek Yoon-Ho's relationship with otherS-Ranks

One thing I've wondered about was how Yoon-Ho handled Eun-Seok's death. It is shown in the anime that he fought alongside Eun-Seok and Min Byung-Gyu well, so I imagine that the three of them were close to each other. Personality-wise, he doesn't seem that different, but I do think it caused him to be distant from other people out of fear of losing them, especially considering how many people he's lost later on. Byung-Gyu seems to be the only person he's shown to meet up with separately, and that's because Yoon-Ho thought he might die during the Jeju Raid

However, he does seem to have a friendly relationship with Ma Dong-Wook, Sung Jin-Woo, and Cha Hae-In based on the few times they've talked with each other. His relationship with Lim Tae-Gyu is more complicated since they obviously know each other with Yoon-Ho being in his guild before he left, but there are virtually no interactions between just the two of them nor are there thoughts about how they feel about each other. While it is possible that they had a falling out after Yoon-Ho left, given the generally friendly personalities of both characters, that seems unlikely

We all know how he is with Jong-In. I don't need to get into that. Half of my blog is about how they are with each other. I can if people want though. It'll just have to be in a completely separate post since that's going to be real long-

Ever since you were little, all you wanted was to become a great hero. Your parents are both amazing people in your eyes, saving others every day, so why wouldn't you want to be like them? Every great hero has to start somewhere and you've got your eye on U.A. High-school of Japan.

(Chapter 1) Got What it Takes?

U.A.: the super-elite school of Japan for young, aspiring heroes, who want to be the best of the best. Only the most skilled, tenacious, and daring teenagers make it here. This school has produced some of the greatest heroes in the world. It must be pretty cool if so many people talk so highly of it, right? You hope so. You have travelled halfway across the world just to score a chance of getting in, after all. You can only hope that all the hard work pays off. It has been a long and difficult process but, finally, you are here.

With clenched fists and determination glistening in your foreign eyes, you stare down the first obstacle in your wake: the gate to the physical exam. You almost can't believe this is the real thing. It certainly seems a lot more intimidating up close. There aren't many things that worry you, especially when it comes to your quirk and your ability to use it. You have to admit, you have been blessed with a truly wonderful quirk, so why are your palms so sweaty?

Everyone around you is preparing themselves, warming up, and getting in the zone. There are definitely some strong-looking students. You never really took much notice of just how many varieties of quirks there are. With competition such as this, you are beginning to wonder how much of a hard time this is going to be. Snap out of it! Now is far from the time to worry. You need to remain primed and focused if you stand any chance of passing this. With a steadying breath, you close your eyes and mentally go over the rules set in place for the marking criteria.

The briefing entailed that four types of "faux villains", as they were called, are to be expected in this trial. Each villain will be worth different points according to their respective difficulty levels. It sounds easy enough: just beat up some bots using your quirk and rack up enough points to get into your dream school within ten minutes. Easy peasy. Yeah, not so much. Present Mic also detailed that the fourth faux villain variety awards you zero points, merely acting as an obstacle more than anything else. It must be quite a hindrance given the fact that there is only one in each sight.

After what feels like a lifetime, the gates finally open. It's go time. A series of bright, star-shaped constructs take form beneath your feet and betwixt your fingers, sitting comfortably within your palms. They may be no larger than your hands but, with enough of them, you are able to lift yourself from the ground. It is only a few inches in the air but it's a lot faster than running. Not to mention, it will likely be wise to conserve your physical energy for combat and evasive manoeuvers should you not be able to activate your quirk fast enough.

You bob and weave around oncoming students, and it doesn't take long before you encounter your first hurdle - three of them, in fact. You land nimbly on the ground and the stars disappear, leaving you to face the robots that rank with a couple of level ones and a two. Decision time: do you prioritise the higher level, or do you rid of the lower rankings first to reduce the numbers? You choose to favour the latter option and fling a cascade of especially sharp stars their way. The metal skin shrieks upon impact, tearing away and unleashing a gush of sparks from within. One quick turn of your body soon after and you direct double the amount towards the last robot. It takes just one more attack before it blasts out of commission. If you keep going at this pace, victory is sure to be well within your grasp.

Some minutes pass and you can only assume that you have managed to reach the 40s. It's a rough estimate but it's good enough for you at the moment. Unfortunately, fate has other plans and decides that it is time to meddle with your good luck. Flickers of multi-coloured spots pass by your peripheral but you make no effort to stop. You can't stop. There is absolutely no way of telling how many points all of the other students have retrieved. If you stop to take a break now, you might just lose your chance. There isn't much that can be done at this point in time, so you take it upon yourself to listen out for anything that sounds heavy enough to be a robot and aim your stars as best as you can. Scatters of rubble come up to your left and you strike to the best of your abilities immediately. How strange...

That didn't sound like metal.

"Whoa," a gravelly voice bellows, "I can tell you wanna' win but don't take out the competition."

This is a fact that you overlooked. Without your sight, the risk of hitting nearby students is that much greater. How could you be so careless? Not only could someone have gotten seriously injured but you could lose out on points because of your recklessness. That is a consideration taken into this exam, right?

"[I'm so sorry]," you accidentally spill in your native tongue. You swallow before correcting yourself. "I've used my quirk too much, and now I can't see anything. I didn't hurt you, did I?"

You hear a laugh, "No, man, don't worry! Lucky for you, I have a pretty indestructible quirk."

What a relief, you think to yourself. Nonetheless, that still doesn't change the fact that you could have hurt him. If it was someone who didn't have a defensive quirk like him, they could have suffered some serious cuts. You don't dwell for much longer when a firm hand lands on your shoulder, followed by that voice again.

"You gonna' be okay? We should probably get you out of the battlefield if you can't see."

"No, no, I'll be fine," you object desperately, shaking your head. "It'll wear off soon."

You expected this mystery person to leave it at that and wish you luck before continuing to get himself more points but he decides to stay. He clearly has a big heart, that much is obvious already. If any of these students deserves to pass, it's him you've decided. You can only hope that this inconvenience doesn't hinder his chances.

When your vision begins to return, you can just about make out smudges of black and red. This guy's face is still rather blurry but you can tell it's the colour palette of his hair and eyes. Is that a small scar on his brow? It's hard to tell. Another colour comes into view, distracting you: green. That can only mean one thing.

"Watch out!"

You are quick to pull the student out of harm's way and your other hand extends, targetting a flurry of bright, iridescent stars at the faux villain. Luckily, you can confirm that it is indeed taken down before your eyes are invaded with kaleidoscope colours once more. Seconds after, the horn blares, signaling the end of the exam. You hope not; he seemed nice. The stewing of these questions has been fermenting and rotting away in your brain since the exam finished. Your downward spiral is cut off to a temporary halt when a resounding knock breaks the silence, followed by a voice.

"[Starshine,]" it calls gently through the varnished wood. "[I made breakfast. You should come and grab a plate.]"

Food is the last thing on your mind but you know that the insistence of your father won't allow you to skip out on the most important meal of the day. Begrudgingly, you peel away from the mountainous cocoon of fluff and trudge out, being sure to drag one of the blankets with you over your shoulders. The man you refer to as 'Paps' smiles endearingly and pats the top of your head as you pass him. He has been awfully distressed about you - both of your parents have. Being a lot softer than his cartoonishly calloused partner, he has a tendency of going over the top in assuring you have everything you need to feel better. It is terribly sweet, of course, but you wish he wouldn't be so concerned, especially considering how much energy he puts into his job. Both of your parents work so hard, they shouldn't have to worry about some measly exam anxiety.

Paps follows your fragile self down the stairs like a hesitant slinky, silently wondering what more he can do to alleviate this pressure that's weighing you down. All contemplation is set aside when the mail for the morning slips past the front door's tongue. Is that...? It is! Your makeshift cape tears away and lands in your father's face as you descend the rest of the way via the banister. You fumble the landing and drop to your knees, scrambling for the letter like a crazed raccoon to a pile of scraps.

It must undoubtedly make for a hilarious sight because you can hear your Paps' laughter come up beside you. "[Well? What are you waiting for? Open it.]"

Yes. Opening the letter is the next step, isn't it? Your entire body is practically vibrating with a mix of nerves and anticipation. Those worrisome thoughts are close to bombarding you into a coma again but you know you need to open it despite your fears. Your fingertips threaten to pale beneath the pressure of your grasp. Just think of it as a bandaid: you just need to rip that sucker off and get it over with. Through bated breath, you scurry back up to your bedroom and close the door. If this is to turn badly, you would much rather be alone for it, much to your Paps dismay. He shall let you be for now but will remain at the ready should you need him.

Prying open the envelope is hardly done with any grace or precision but you can barely withstand your trembling. A disc-shaped ornament tumbles onto the carpet in front of you. That explains the strange shape, at least. The device stares back at you dauntingly and you have to take a deep breath before pressing the little button that will unveil either your demise or your sanctuary. It chirps to life and a hologram projection springs up, revealing the greatest hero this planet has ever known: All-Might. This must be a good sign. There is no way they would get the top dog himself to bring bad news to the students, right?

"It is I," he announces, baring that trademark smile of his. "Well done, (Y/n) (L/n)! As I am to become a teacher at U.A. I have the proud honour of declaring your success in making it in. Congratulations! You have a fantastic quirk, young lady. Now, you certainly had a couple of fumbles during the practical but your ability to prosper again was most impressive. We weren't just examining students on how many points they could get, after all. You earned some hero points saving that young man from that faux villain."

There is a lot to unpack here. The top-ranking hero himself is going to be a teacher? That's amazing! Not only did you get in but he's going to be your teacher as well. This is almost too good to be true. You thought for sure that said occurrence would have lost you points, especially since you got that student into that mess in the first place. It is a guilt you had been bearing on your shoulders this entire time - a weight that is slowly starting to lift with All-Might's words. It makes you wonder how that boy did and, as if on cue, your question is answered.

"Don't worry, (L/n), the young gentleman has also made it into the school," he continues, easing your aforementioned worries. "He earned himself a fair few hero points with the noble deed of checking on your wellbeing. Being a hero isn't just a matter of how many villains you can take down - it's also about doing what is right! Well done to both of you! I have a feeling you are both going to make wonderful heroes someday."

You catch your own smile in the mirror opposite to you once the hologram disappears. Having two wins to hold under your belt is something you hardly expected but you are certainly not going to complain. Any and all previous engagements with your negative psyche are dwindling as you turn your focus to preparing for school. That first day cannot come soon enough.

Getting this done was a mission and a half, let me tell ya'. I lost this first chapter TWICE due to technical difficulties, but we got there in the end. Status Update: DXB to MEL

I have not even finished a quarter of the longest flight yet (estimated 12h total), yet I am already making an update.

Nothing spectacular has happened to me really. The gate check in was no problem (for once). I was just surprised to hear so many announcements when previously, it had been made very clear that DXB is a ‘silent airport’, meaning no announcements whatsoever.

But the plane was delayed rather heavily out of nowhere. I think we took off 1h 30min later than planned. And it only now began to really affect me that I have been up and kicking for pretty much 24h straight.

I was so tired in fact, I nearly dozed of several times before taking off. And once we were in the air, I laid my head on the table on slept for about an hour before food was served again.

This time, I did actually get lucky though. For some reason, the passenger who was supposed to take the seat to my left didn’t show up. Now I’m sharing the row with just one other guy. He’s sleeping the whole time in his aisle seat, and I scooted over to the window seat.

I’ll make a food ranking in another post, as I am still too tired and really need to catch up on some sleep before I board my last flight to Wellington.

Some hidden records suggest he made a pact with a marine entity—perhaps an abyssal deity—trading his soul for immortality, chosen to "guard the gates at the bottom of the world."

Since his incorporation into MOTHRA, The Diver has never removed his suit, and no authorized protocol has attempted to force him. Caring for the Population: Assessment and Diagnosis Caring for Population With the introduction of machines and new technology in our lives we as Americans, have become very lazy and heavily dependent on the software driven machines which in turn has reduced the total amount of physical activity undertaken throughout the day. The concept of earning more and more money while we totally avoid giving time to ourselves through exercises, gyms, aerobics and yoga has in turn, made us into the fattest nation of the world. And due to obesity and tension our pancreases stop working and condition arises that is known as diabetes. Obesity can create many problems on an individual level and on a community level. Obesity hinders the functional level of organism and can cause loss in terms of GDP (Gross Domestic Product) or GNP (Gross National Product). It is obvious that a slow and unproductive organism wouldn't perform well in the society and will cause problems for others as well and will seek shortcuts in practical life to gain success and it gets its work done. In this paper I will be highlighting problems regarding obesity in the state of Florida and possible solutions for this problem of extreme importance. Community: The community that I will be discussing about in this paper is the community of Okaloosa County, Florida, where the vast majority of the population is obese and diabetic. Here people are eating while sitting in their cars and behind-the-desk culture is very prevalent here. Drive-through, fast food joints are ever more popular here and this reflects how people have become lazy that they are not energetic enough to go into the restaurant. Demographic and Epidemiological Data: The official obesity rate of Okaloosa County, Florida is 20.7% (Public Broadcasting Service). This means that out of every 100 people, approximately 21 individuals are obese. There are other reports that suggest that this rate is much higher than stated and is near to 30%. But as compared to other constituencies of the United States, this rate is much lower and people here are healthier than any other area. Estimated adult obesity-attributable percentages and expenditures by the state on Florida give a figure of USD 3,987; this is much higher than the rest of the country. Okaloosa county people are healthier but overall Florida is affected by obesity and its cost is higher than other states of America. According to a website, Belly Fat Health News, 26.1% of adults are obese in Florida (Florida Obesity Statistics). In Okaloosa County, this figures stands at 20.7% of the entire populace. The overall obesity percentage is 62.8% of the overall population of 18,801,310 (United States Census, 2010). Out of these 62.86% there are 12 million people with life threatening issues related to obesity that includes heart diseases, lung problems and liver issues. Racial and ethnic categories of Florida show a 38.8% obesity rate among Blacks, 28.7% among Latinos and 24.1% among Whites (America's Health Rankings). The rate for diabetes is 9.9% and 29% of the population have hypertension. So it is safe to say that we can conclude that Florida is counted among the fattest states of the nation but the County under discussion has a lower rate of obesity and is doing well. We can see that diabetic rate is lesser in the people than obesity this is due to the fact that there are very good health centers and awareness programs in Okaloosa County. Windshield Survey: There is widespread distribution of people and houses here in Okaloosa. People lie at the two extremes on the income line; this means that there is a huge rich-poor gap. Houses examined by me were very big and had humongous dining tables. They had sprawling lawns with small dining tables and almost every house had a garage which presumably had an automobile inside it. There are residential communities, gated communities, high schools, elementary schools, different categories of churches such as the Methodist, Catholic, Episcopal and Baptist. The environmental hazards would be hurricanes and the safety hazards could be lack of road access during tourist season, dense traffic and road rage. Hospitals and health care centers are located on very approachable distances and that is the reason that there are very low death rates than in the past. One thing that was alarming was the presence of a fast food outlet at every corner where the meal size is continually getting bigger and bigger every single day. People here are habitual of eating lots of junk food; this is in sharp contrast to other states where people also enjoy tropical fruits fresh from the gardens. Problem: After the analysis of the data and research done, I have concluded that the problem obesity in our society is due to unhealthy eating habits and heavy reliability on automation. Intense dependence on machines reflects that we as a race have also become less active physically which in turn has led us to become weak. We can be less obese and more active if and only if we do our regular work with mindful eating. We for the sake of saving time choose fast food that includes burgers, sandwiches, cakes, cokes and they do save our time but we are killing ourselves in turn. In Healthy People 2020, a domain is dedicated to nutrition and weight status that explains the importance of mindful eating. This is a problem in our community due to increase in competition. Everybody is in indirect competition with his or her colleague. And to get ahead of the other, time has to be saved and invested in work. In this struggle, our nerves are tested to their maximum and undue stress is placed upon both the mind and body. Combined, these problems lead us to the problem known as diabetes. People who are obese also have a greater likelihood of getting diabetes (LSU Health New Orleans). High use of sugar leads to diabetes as well. It is an entirely separate domain in the Healthy People, 2020 objectives and consequently of extreme importance since it can lower life expectancy up to 15 years. The only way to survive with this disease is to take enormous care, consume less sugar and exercise regularly (Healthy People, 2020). Historical Significance: Obesity wasn't a problem in the past; people were more social and ate their meals together and on time. They were usually cooked at home and were pure and fresh. Meals also comprised of all the food groups and contained a portion of vegetables most of the time. It is safe to say that the people in the remote past were "greener" than us in their eating habits. With the introduction of high-demanding jobs and the computer, people became less concentrated toward their health and became employed behind a desk, pushing papers for a large part of their lives. This has led to a drastic increase in obesity as well as diabetes. To pile on an additional problem, the fast-food industry was born around the same time. Summary: Diabetes refers to the malfunctioning of the pancreas and obesity as the disease of the accumulation of fat in the body exceeding than the required percentage. These two problems are associated with one another and most of the times obesity is the leading reason towards diabetes. These problems make the individual drastically less healthy and more irritable. This leads to that person avoiding social contact with others. This further leads to a downward spiral in which bad habits are retained and others are lost. Disease and obesity are rising at break-neck speeds and the figures are doubling every year. The most vulnerable segment of our society is the child age group that is exposed to this unhealthy eating culture every single day at the most impressionable age of their lifetimes. Death Toll From Los Angeles Fires Rises to 10

Firefighters reported some progress fighting the wildfires that have charred hillsides, homes ,and streets in Los Angeles County, but the strong winds that fanned the flames were expected to pick up again on Friday, worsening conditions.

The fires, engulfing iconic Los Angeles neighborhoods and tearing through the Hollywood Hills, have so far killed 10 people and destroyed nearly 10,000 structures.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said late on Thursday he expected the death toll to grow.

"It looks like an atomic bomb dropped in these areas. I don't expect good news, and we're not looking forward to those numbers," Luna told a press conference.

Some Pacific Palisades residents ventured back to areas where a wall of fire had already swept through. Brick chimneys loomed over charred waste and burnt-out vehicles.

"We are alive. That's all that matters," private security guard Bilal Tukhi said while standing watch outside his employer's damaged home, saying the scene reminded him of his native, war-torn Afghanistan.

As of early Friday, five fires were still burning.

The Palisades Fire between Santa Monica and Malibu on the city's western flank and the Eaton Fire in the east near Pasadena already rank as the most destructive in Los Angeles history.

They have consumed more than 34,000 acres (13,750 hectares) - or some 53 square miles - and turned entire neighborhoods to ash.

The Palisades Fire is now 6% controlled, while the Eaton Fire still blazed out of control, according to the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

The skies buzzed with aircraft dropping water and fire retardant on the flaming hills.

One rapidly growing blaze that broke out Thursday near Calabasas, one of the wealthiest cities in the U.S. and home to numerous celebrities and gated communities, was 35% under control by early Friday, fire officials said.

The Kenneth Fire had expanded to 960 acres (388 hectares) in a matter of hours. The Hurst Fire was 37% contained, while the Lidia Fire, the smallest of the five, was 75% contained.

Winds dropped on Thursday from the gusts of up to 100 miles per hour (160 kph) seen earlier in the week, allowing crucial support from the air for firefighters on the ground.

But officials said winds intensified again overnight, and red flag conditions were expected until Friday afternoon.

President Joe Biden, who declared a major disaster Tuesday, promised on Thursday that the federal government would reimburse 100% of the recovery for the next 180 days to pay for debris and hazard material removal, temporary shelters and first responder salaries.

"I told the governor, local officials, spare no expense to do what they need to do and contain these fires," Biden said after meeting with senior advisers at the White House.

Private forecaster AccuWeather estimated the damage and economic loss at $135 billion to $150 billion, portending an arduous recovery and soaring homeowners' insurance costs.

The homes of movie stars and celebrities were among those consumed by flames.

Reality TV star Paris Hilton shared video of her charred beachfront home in Malibu after watching it burn down on live TV. Images showed piles of charred debris and twisted metal with waves lapping the beach in the background.

Officials said the Eaton Fire had damaged or destroyed 4,000 to 5,000 structures while the Palisades Fire destroyed or damaged another 5,300 structures.

In Altadena, a racially and economically diverse community nearby, many residents told Reuters they were concerned government resources would be channeled toward wealthier areas and they worried that insurance companies might shortchange less affluent households who lacked the means to contest fire claims.

"They're not going to give you the value of your house ... if they do you really have to fight for it," said Kay Young, 63. She tearfully looked over smoking rubble, the remnants of a home that she said had been in her family for generations.

Firefighting crews managed to fully control the Sunset Fire in the Hollywood Hills, after flames had raged atop the ridge overlooking Hollywood Boulevard's Walk of Fame on Wednesday night.

Officials said they were working to establish curfews for areas affected by mandatory evacuation orders to prevent looting.

The LA County Sheriff's Department said it had requested the support of the California National Guard to help local law enforcement with traffic control and to protect critical infrastructure.

It said 20 people had been arrested for looting.

Four key sectors account for nearly half of the total revenue generated by Brazil’s largest agribusiness companies, according to the latest edition of the “Melhores do Agronegócio” (“Best of Agribusiness”) ranking. The annual awards, organized by the Globo Rural magazine, recognize the leading players in the country’s agribusiness sector. The winners for this year will be announced at an event on Monday (25) in São Paulo.

Last year, the 500 largest companies in Brazil’s agribusiness sector posted combined revenues of R$1.61 trillion. Leading the charge were producers of soybeans and oils, which generated R$304.2 billion in 2023, representing 18.9% of the total.

This dominance underscores the crucial role soy plays in the overall performance of Brazil’s agribusiness sector. According to projections from the Brazilian Agriculture Confederation (CNA), soybeans will account for 38% of the country’s gross agricultural production value in 2024. The gross value of agricultural production (VBP)—which the CNA estimates will decline by 1.9% this year to R$1.29 trillion—measures the gross revenue farms generate “within the farm gate” from the sale of crops and livestock.

Cooperatives represent the second-largest share of the top 500 agribusiness companies’ revenues, with 16.9%. Trading companies and beef industries follow, with 6.6% and 5.6%, respectively. Combined, these four sectors account for 48% of total revenues.
