Overview This particular Highlander IIC - nicknamed Caber IIC - was custom-built for Tara Jade Falcon by direct order of Jade Falcon Khan Stephanie Chistu - deliberately using a combination of technicians from Clan Jade Falcon and the Northwind Highlanders, Tara's former command. Rumors that the 'Mech was an engagement gift continue to swirl among the Jade Falcon touman; though no announcement has been forthcoming, sightings of a 'Mech-scale engagement ring have been attested.
Capabilities Caber IIC has been uprated by a full 10 tons. As such, some question whether the 'Mech counts as a Highlander any longer, but as it retains the same shape and size as prior to the refit, some warriors of Clan Jade Falcon find this argument spurious. The 'Mech started life as a Highlander IIC 4 captured from Clan Hell's Horses by the Sudeten-based Jade Falcon Remnant. It was upgraded to SLDF "Royal" standards by swapping the ATM launchers for Improved variants, and the Gauss rifle was replaced with a capacitor-equipped Clan Extended Range PPC, the combination enabling both enhanced range and significantly increased damage, all without the need for ammunition. The torso mounted medium pulse lasers and Artemis V-equipped LRM 20 remain, though a ton of LRM ammuniton was dropped from the original loadout. A micro pulse laser underslung the ERPPC adds a small amount of additional close range damage as well as serving as an anti-infantry weapon. At Tara's personal insistence, the 'Mech was refit with Triple Strength Myomer and Talons were integrated into the 'Mech's feet, enabling devastating kicks and Death From Above attacks. However, the true purpose of the TSM is to enable enormously damaging swings from the handheld sword-styled Hatchet (inspired by the Hatchets carried by ComStar "Clanbuster" Black Knights at the Battle of Tukayyid) that sits in a massive 'Mech-scale sheath on the 'Mech's back. Thanks to a supercharger, the 'Mech is capable of speeds of up to 86.4 kph when the Triple Strength Myomer is also active. A battle computer working in tandem with a Neutron Star CEWS (based on captured Nova CEWS units) allows Tara to coordinate her actions with the rest of the Turkina Keshik command Star. Thirteen double heat sinks, a combat computer, and a Radical Heat Sink system ensure the 'Mech can fire all of its heat- and accuracy-tuned weapons without overheating. The 'Mech's cockpit and head have had substantial additional armoring added in accordance with standard Third Star League design principles.
Deployment Built in mid-3151, Caber IIC serves in the command Star of Turkina Keshik of Clan Jade Falcon, piloted solely by Tara Jade Falcon.
History Caber IIC has so far seen service only a handful of times so far - the first mission for the 'Mech was part of Jade Falcon forces during the Third Star League's Operation PERSUASION. It was during the drop on Caph that Tara - fighting alongside her lover and Khan Stephanie Chistu - was reunited with Cadha Jaffray of Northwind. This meeting and the frank discussions that resulted would ultimately culminate in the accession of Northwind to the Third Star League in December 3152, and result in an agreement between the Falcons and the Northwind Highlanders to share the planet under the New Jointly-Owned Worlds Agreement of 3153. The second notable mission to date took place in October 3152 - Khan Chistu led a Falcon/SLDF force to "rescue" the Jade Falcon Remnants centered around Sudeten. On this mission, it was Tara's personal intervention that saved the lives of Khan Jiyi Chistu, Star Commander Alexis "Ghostbird" Zarnofsky, and Star Colonel Xander Pryde (soon to become Loremaster of Clan Jade Falcon) during a Hell's Horses ambush.
