Objectives:

Beta Lance: Make landfall at LZ JUNO. Hold position within 100 meters of clear drop point and ensure no hostile forces threaten LZ.

Angel Element: Mid-flight deployment during reentry. Break away from DropShip wing and proceed north towards SWMC Alpha / Bravo. Neutralize any active enemy air elements en route, conduct bombing run against primary capital-class AA targets to secure near-orbital space.

After-Action Report:

SWMC Alpha and SWMC Bravo lances made planetfall on schedule into a curtain of enemy anti-aircraft fire. No casualties on descent. One Drop Pod struck by LRM surface artillery, but damage minimal. OpFor presence at installations limited to a single Level II armored formation at the target. Armor engaged and Anti-Air defense infrastructure targeted at distance. SWMC Forces continued to engage for several hours following the initial drop. Both lances suffered moderate damage, leaving Alpha 2 and 3, and Bravo 3, 4 and 5 below standard performance. Anti-Aircraft Missile batteries targeted with ARAD LRM fire, opening nearby airspace for CFRI Angel Squadron. CFRI 2nd Company Alpha Lance Swept a one-klick radius of LZ for enemy contacts. Two targets neutralized, returned to secure the site for the second drop wave. Surveillance equipment noted a significant increase in encrypted traffic over local networks and a concerningly large heat signature originating ~200 klicks southwest- request OPSCOM pass this along to CENTCOM and relay any available intelligence.  Engaged and Destroyed: 2x Hi-Scout Cunningham

CFRI Angel Element deployed during drop and made for targets at full afterburners. Contacts en route did not delay element arrival to the AO. Successful operations by SWMC Alpha and SWMC Bravo resulted in minimal close AA support. Angel-4 and Angel-5 scored hits against enemy command and control structures. Arrow-IV Anti-Ship Missiles launched from Angel-6 achieved confirmed kills on target “MADELEINE” for primary objective success. something that's really been bothering me lately is how the church i was a part of would like... repackage doctrine to make it sound nicer and more acceptable. like, the belief that all humans are evil by nature and deserve eternal torture for the crime of existing is inherently violent and cruel. but my church didn't frame it like that. they framed it as "yes we're ALL evil and wicked and we ALL deserve hell to atone for our sin (being human) BUT god loves you despite you not deserving love or happiness or anything good at all and all you have to do to avoid the pits of hell is accept jesus as your savior isn't that so amazing????" and they framed the crucifixion as this beautiful, selfless act of god by taking our place on the cross instead of "this all-powerful being who created all the rules decided that he required torture, death, and human sacrifice to be able to tolerate us". and it's not "women will be viewed as lesser than men" it's "women must submit to their husbands the same way we all must submit to god it's not dehumanizing it's holy and yes women have different roles but that doesn't make them lesser than and sure we don't have any women in leadership positions in the church and we would never even consider it, come on now that's ridiculous, but that's just because men are supposed to lead because men and women are different and created for different purposes it's just biology". and there are plenty others! i know that the reframing of everything is part of how they can even get people to accept the doctrine in the first place, but being on the outside of it is kind of horrifying. when you get down to the actual beliefs that are held without the distortions and manipulation, so many are violent, cruel, dehumanizing, abusive. but they distort and manipulate these beliefs to make them seem acceptable, morally correct, and redefine what love is and should look like.

How many times do you think Tuvok used the Tarkalean flu excuse before Janeway started going "Hmm..." Seven years is a long time and I'm certain that the first few times Tuvok got the 'flu' Janeway didn't remember or think much of it. Especially depending on how common the Tarkalean flu is (it'd be much less notable if it was the equivalent of being out sick with 'a cold') At what point do you think Janeway went "Let me make a note of this..." and then the next time his 'flu' rolled around, seven years later, she went back to confirm that note. But a good scientist needs more consistent results than that - so it really took a third period of seven years to fully cement this knowledge as fact in her mind. Meanwhile Tuvok's making detailed psychological notes on her. They're a perfect team!

Abusive parents sometimes want to control your appearance so you look less individualistic, and more like them. The reasoning behind is that they are constantly aware that they need to keep up public appearances. Even if they keep you in complete poverty, servitude, violence and blackmail, the public can't be seeing that. So if your appearance differs from theirs too much, that is a threat to them.

They'll want you to look in unity with the rest of the family, even if you're everything but. That extends past your appearance; abusive parents attempt to control your entire identity.

If they're in a certain political circle, they expect you to be in it, if they belong to a certain religion, they expect it from you too, if they subscribe to certain ideas and beliefs to how a person needs to be, they expect you to share all of those beliefs. They need everything that makes you unique and different, to be completely erased and assimilated into their way of thinking, their way of behaving. So that there's no difference visible to the outside world, between them and you, even if you know in private, that there's a world of differences.

Controlling your identity and appearance extends to your social circle too; if you have friends who are not like them, they will devalue and degrade your friends, in front of you, and act like those people are worthless. They'll expect you to keep a social circle of only people in the family and people they approve of. They'll want to control who you come in contact, and from where you get your information, opinions and worldviews; nothing but the same worldview and opinion is ever allowed. They want you contained in that bubble of people who think, believe, and behave like them. Nothing individual, different or opposing.

They want you to have no place, no identity and no way to belong to any other people but them. They want you to feel like you're nothing without them, nothing in the outside world, like you have no place but inside of their house, doing what you're told. If you do manage to find your identity and beliefs elsewhere, this will be discouraged, degraded and you'll be expected to get rid of it, or even forbidden to participate in it.

This, again, is a cult tactic of control and escape sabotage. Restrictions on who you're allowed to be, how you're allowed to look, where you're allowed to make connections and what information and people you're allowed to be exposed to, that's something cults do to keep you indoctrinated. They don't want you getting any outside information, or to associate yourself with anyone who could make you doubt their methods. If you're the only one who has doubts, they can silence you. This is much more difficult to do if you have others backing you up, confirming that the methods are wrong, bizarre, traumatic.

If your family has attempted to control your appearance, identity and social circle, it's possible they're trying to keep you contained the same way a cult prevents a person from leaving; taking away their identity outside the group. Parents will do this to keep their children submissive and too scared to escape, too doubtful that they could be anyone who isn't completely defined by the parent's point of view. If this was done to you and you found it hard to imagine your place in the world, to figure out your identity and to find your own social circle, it was on purpose. They worked hard to make it extremely, extremely difficult for you.

I know mahiru is often seen as not smart (his official stats from the guidebook give him a 2 out of 10 for tactics and I think the mental stat is more about mental stability?) and sure he's not a tactical genius like mikuni or touma (both have 10/10 in tactics) but mahiru is extremely socially/emotionally intelligent, which is an intelligence often overlooked in favour of "classic" intelligence (like being good at math or things like chess).

But unlike other characters mahiru knows when to stand his ground and when to lay low and change a person's view slowly over time.

Misono wasn't on his side in the beginning, even saying mahiru could be his servant when mahiru agreed to work with him, but mahiru quickly picked up on the fact that misono was lonely and offered to be his friend. Now misono trusts him completely and recognizes that mahiru's strength lies in gaining allies.

Shuhei openly hated vampires and treated them as things and mahiru responded by humanizing them, listing examples of vampires acting just like normal people, laying the first stone for shuhei to stop wanting to kill all vampires.

He was the one who proposed the idea that tsubaki would come to rescue lilac because tsubaki sees his subclass as family and he was right.

Neither lawless nor licht were overly impressed by him when they first met him, but by the time he asks them to rescue tsurugi especially lawless is one of his biggest supporters.

In C3 he understood that he wasn't going to be able to move if he opposed them and joined them instead, allowing him and the other eves to meet. He also correctly concluded that getting tsurugi on their side was key because he was central to C3's/touma's plans and in the end it saved his life and allowed him to stop touma.

Mahiru consistently trying to protect tsubaki's subclass might also come in handy soon. They might not like C3, but both lilac and sakuya can vouch for mahiru as a person they can trust not to kill them and to aid them in stopping tsubaki from destroying himself.

And stopping tsubaki by convincing him to stop is perfectly logical. A servamp can't be killed as far as we know. Combat only gets you so far. If C3 want to create a lasting co-existence between vampires and humans getting both sides to stop killing each other and to learn to forgive is the only way.

Trying to solve this conflict through conversation and not violence is neither shortsighted nor childish, it's the only reasonable solution.

Gyroslug Machine Pistol Mk6 (aka "Smart Pistol"/"Gunslinger's Best Friend")

A 7.5mm gyroslug machine pistol issued to graduates of the SLDF Gunslinger program, the Mk6 GMP is used either as a standard sidearm, or more commonly, as a component of a BattleMech SERE Kit. When stored in a SERE kit, the pistol is located under or on the back of the standard ejection seat. For 'Mechs with Full Head Ejection, a specialized hardened compartment is placed within easy arm's reach of the pilot seat.

The MK6 exclusively fires guided gyroslug ammunition - no other rounds have been produced for the weapon - made with advanced Clantech. Compared to earlier developmental prototypes, the Mk6 features enhanced guidance capabilities, thanks to an AI targeting system linked directly to the gyroslug rounds. Combined with the smart targeting and adaptive recoil mitigation/redirection system, the AI targeting allows the pistol - in the hands of a skilled operator - to remain controllable and deadly even when firing in bursts.

Using a standard chemical propellant charge to fire the gyroslugs from the weapon prior to ignition, the Mk6 grants the projectiles significantly more kinetic energy than standard gyroslugs - thus allowing to perform more intensive maneuvering to successfully hit a locked target. The rounds are programmed to strongly bias center mass and head impacts. A Gunslinger in their jumpjet equipped PA(L) piloting armor can thus dart around the battlefield at speed, taking out dozens of enemy infantry if needed.

The pistol fires from 20 round (standard) or 30 round (extended) magazines at a burst fire rate of 900 rounds per minute. It possesses two semi-automatic firing modes:

The first, known by the Gunslingers as "dumbfire" mode, disables all smart-targeting and guidance systems of the pistol and ammunition, using the fuel of the gyroslugs as explosive filler. In this mode, it is capable of penetrating weak-points in battle armor suits, even Clan Elemental armor. The second semi-auto mode, known colloquially as "half-smart" mode, enables the targeting and guidance features, for long-range precision shots. The pistol can be equipped with any of the 5 standardized SLDF pistol red dot sights via an adaptor plate system for easier target acquisition and follow-up shots than using the standard iron sights.

i will never stop thinking about how palpatine forces count dooku to kill his apprentice asajj ventress because she is getting too powerful, and palpatine refuses to tolerate a threat, even if it is useful and temporarily loyal. and how the nature of sith master and apprentice is built at the intersection of dependence and expendability. masters train apprentices to need them, and never teach them everything they know (implying that the sith have been steadily losing their own cultural knowledge and techniques over thousands of years because of their own selfishness) out of fear of their apprentice rising up and killing them, which is also the one thing they have trained their apprentice to do. meanwhile apprentices, resentful of their dependence, go out and create apprentices of their own to usurp their master and continue the entire useless cycle. by nature, both master and apprentice are inherently crucial and expendable all at once, which they then use as a threat to keep one another in line.

but in the cases of ventress and maul, they’re both uniquely expendable because their existence is only tolerated (first by plagueis, then by sidious) under the condition that they are a tool that will be disposed of once it’s usefulness has ended. that’s crazy. years and years of training someone only to off them; the time sink alone is ridiculous. and neither of them expects this, either, because they believe in the old lineage of the sith: that their masters will honor their agreement and make them Sith Lords so long as they obey without question, only to find out in the worst way that they were never intended to become true Sith Lords. they were a means to an end, and both of them feel so deeply betrayed and hurt by this that they cannot let it go. like… i dunno man, but as much as that is a leopards-ate-my-face situation, it’s also deeply sad because these two in particular are essentially raised in the sith tradition. ventress has some years as a jedi, but not many. the foundation of their beings, the one solid thing they believed in, turned out to be hollow. sad.
