stardew valley au where joel and skizz are new residents to pelican town (hermit town?). joel just inherited a large farm from his late grandfather and skizz is moving in with his old friend after reconnecting with him and wanting a fresh start. and the townspeople are like, kinda weird.

bdubs is fine enough - he’s a sweet man with a fun personality and he’s the local builder, but it’s almost frightening how fast he constructs new buildings when joel needs them. pearl, their resident postmaster, is also pretty normal other than the fact that skizz never seems to be awake early enough to catch her delivering mail. scar is lovely but he’s never available when joel wants another chicken. the mayor, xisuma, is pleasant too, if a little eccentric at times, but he doesn’t really seem to do much in town.

for the most part, skizz is settling in well. he’s moved in with impulse, who runs the local blacksmith in town, and he gets along well with most of the local townspeople. he’s started spending his evenings at the local saloon listening to ren regale the patrons with fantastical tales while he and stress serve up food and drinks, and he finds himself growing close with cleo, the local sculptor. he even gets a new wardrobe from hypno free of charge, and sometimes helps cub out with his totally scientific studies and creations.

skizz also joins forces with beef (who helps to supply the local general store that xb and keralis run) in terrorising the local manager of the corporate chain grocery store that no one likes. doc is a terrible manager but would make a fun supervillain (according to joe hills, the bookseller who appears once in a blue moon but seems to know doc more than anyone in town).

joel, on the other hand, seems to only be interacting with the strangest residents in town. he discovers the adventurer’s guild after only a couple weeks, and is only somewhat irritated by iskall’s refusal to pronounce his name correctly. false promises to give him prizes if he can kill enough monsters, which is not something joel had expected to be doing when he pictured farm life, but here he is. he stumbles upon a travelling cart one day, and the man inside insists he’s a knight from a faraway land, that he risked his life to make it all the way here to sell his wares. it’s all stuff joel can get cheaper elsewhere.

he’s pretty sure the local doctor has no real medical training, but then he passes out while fighting monsters and he wakes up completely fine, so zedaph probably knows what he’s doing. maybe. when joel isn’t passing out he sometimes makes trips to the library-slash-museum, which is probably almost completely empty because mumbo, who begs joel for anything to display, looks like he’s never fought a duggie in his life. eventually mumbo gives joel a key to the sewers, which are way cooler than they have any right to be, and that’s where he finds jevin’s secret sewer shop. jevin lives in town. he just also has a shop hidden underground. joel has stopped asking questions by now.

and then there are the three who live by the beach. etho spends most of his time tinkering around the fishing hut or hovering around bdubs, but sometimes he drives the bus to the desert. only sometimes. there might be something under his mask. no one knows for sure. gem runs the fish shop most days and she claims she’s a sailor, but joel has never seen a single working boat around despite all the ocean. she can also hold her breath underwater for an uncannily long amount of time, like, scarily so, and will sometimes disappear for a few days and return with an abundance of treasures. joel has never seen her leave by boat. grian fishes a lot and runs the shop when gem can’t, and he sometimes talks as though the sea can speak to him. skizz has caught him staring into space for extended periods of time. one time he waded into the water and just stood there, head down, muttering to himself.

apparently there used to be a lighthouse but “it’s gone now”. gem says if they ask bdubs nicely enough maybe they can build another one, but she and grian are banned from build requests after the last incident with their pet snails (joel has never seen the snails, but scar complains about them enough to convince him they’re real).

there also might be some kind of wizard who lives in the creepy tower in the woods. skizz has heard he’s the one who helps maintain the power in the valley, and joel’s convinced he hallucinated seeing him once until he recieves a letter from the wizard himself, and visits him only to find that the strange fire-creature he saw that one time was, in fact, tango, who is human for the most part, he just sets himself on fire sometimes.

i’ve got thoughts about the waffleduo canon soulmates*, watcher!grian (optional, but also include the secret keeper in this part of the list if you count this bit), mumbo’s first life game since the soulstealing event, mumbo having the waffle in secret life implying that’s all canon, mumbo and grian having such similar tasks, each of them immediately going to the other to try to complete their tasks (with varying results). and all of these thoughts are connected, but you have to connect those dots yourself i’m too busy to do that right now but it’s there and it’s so obvious right? right? you get it

Joel - I want this man to win so badly, but I think he'll def get top four (plz don't fuck this up for me joel)

Etho - I also want him to win, but hes def top 3 and will have to fight cleo or bdubs or joel for first place

Cleo - genuine contender for first place, honestly girl deserves it, no further comment

Bdubs - bro either will lay down his life for etho or die by his blade, but I swear I'll go insane if he kills etho

Scott - since its the curse break season, he's not going to be top 3 (somehow) but still doing good

Gem - I love her and it'd be so cool for her to win her first game (esp after causing half the servers deaths), but I think she'll be 6th, probably betrayed

Impulse - I haven't seen much of him this season, but I hear he deserves a win, having been high placed a bunch

Scar - he is public enemy number one, so I just hope he lives longer than grian because that man has been PINING so hard (or mby killed by grian but hey optimism)

Grian - i NEED him dead before cleo and etho for curse break reasons. Mans needs to die before his allies for once

Tango - havent seen much of him, bros just been queering it up at the heart foundation from what I know, solid 10

Skizz - skizz has been bottom 3 too much, this is his redemption he's got this

Pearl - we need scarlet witch red life joel team up they'd be so damaging. She's been going pretty great this season, left the tower and all, so I just don't want her to die alone

Bigb - literally he's been so strange I honestly don't know. He might just throw a curve ball and win it. I would not put it past him. The backrooms will claim anyone who tries to mess with him

Martyn - ohohohoh I want this man FAILED he needs to fail a task and die because whats more poetic than the punishment

Mumbo - (already out, wanted him to do better but honestly didn't expect much hes not great at surviving)

tiny tom? a baby squirrel. sludgepond takes good care of him. and hermes is an entire bobcat kitten! for some reason! claycloud completely ignores how he is clearly not normal cat sized and loves him anyways. sheephop's fully aware, does not care, as he was raised by a warren of rabbits and that's the least weird thing he's seen in his life.

ur scarian takes r so real .. theres so much of it in the fandom and thats not even bad but ppl do such a disservice to both scar n grian as characters .. when i first joined the fandom there was a period of time where i just couldnt get into scarian at all because a lot of fanon scarian completely RUINED scars character and it filled me with raaaageee </3 i just wish ppl branched out more or challenged their pov of scarian

The Bad Boys facing a back-stab?

i have lots of thoughts about the bad boys and I’m rambling. I promise it’s worth the read.

Jimmy and Joel have really become two peas in a pod this season and their relationship has only strengthened the higher the stakes have raised - when the yellow hunt happened Jimmy constantly tried to defend Joel, batting away opponents (Etho! scary minecraft man!) and shouting for him to get to cover. And Joel returns the favour, when Jimmy tries to protect NPC-Grian and other yellows are toying with him from above Joel is right there to defend him, pushing them away, foiling their TNT traps, threatening them and chasing Martyn and Scar off several times even though he knows he won’t win any time back. To each other they’re worthy of a worthless kill - time lost to the series just for the mere protection of the other. This offers no personal gain to themselves, they’re simply the Bad Boys, and they look after each other, and that’s it.

The way they vehemently defended NPC-Grian shows their underlying loyalty not only to each other but to all of the Bay Boys, especially Joel. He was constantly checking in on Grian, offering entertainment, defending him from the masses, aware of the way other players might seek to exploit his non-conscious state. Jimmy threw himself in harms way again and again to protect Grian, and even died once or twice when trying to keep him safe. He furiously and desperately placed down cobblestone to protect Grian from the raining TNT, putting himself in harms way all the while - do you really think Grian would do the same? 

Joel has shown himself to be a team player - “Don’t touch OUR Grian!!”, “Leave him alone!”, “Jimmy, run!!”, firmly saying “no” when asked to make a decision without the other Bad Boys, refusing all other offers for his Bad Boys. He’s a notorious lone wolf, and he’s clinging to the relationships he’s managed to build with the Bay Boys because they’re his! He made them! They’re his to protect and his to annoy and he’s more than happy to kill anyone who poses a threat to his team, the killing is just a plus for him. Jimmy is known to be a team player - he’s always had an alliance (big and small) in every 3rd life series and he’s always been utterly devoted to them, sometimes to his own detriment (looking at you Grian). His unbridled enthusiasm with “We’re the Bad Boys!” and his later extension to ‘The Family’ shows this - he’s a Bad Boy, and so are Joel and Grian, they’re a package, and nothing will change that in his mind.

Recently, upon Jimmy turning red Grian once again questioned his trustworthiness to the Bad Boys, and Joel immediately reprimands him with a swift ‘of course, it’s Jimmy’ - of course, of course Jimmy would never hurt him, it doesn’t even cross his mind because he wouldn’t even consider it himself. Jimmy would never betray him, never betray the Bad Boys, it’s silly of Grian to even suggest otherwise. He trusts Jimmy wholly and fully, and vice versa - Grian cannot say the same.

Of course, Grian is also there and is always willing to lend a helping hand when his teammates need him to, but this is Grian. This is the man who beat his day one ally to death in the cactus ring when we all know Scar couldn’t even bring himself to do so (flinging himself into the cactus’ to make his death quicker and Grian’s win unavoidable), this is the man who killed (at least) two of his previous teammates in the Southlands - granted Mumbo attacked him first but he hunted him down, there was no room for negotiation or a red-red alliance after the first stone was thrown. He also slays Jimmy, this is relevant later. Double life is a special case, but he ‘backstabs’ Scar in favour of a ‘secret soulmate’, and it’s his death and carelessness he reprimanded Scar for that marks their departure from the series. 

Grian isn’t a team player; yes, he’ll join in with the pranks, he’ll even adorn the silly little outfit, he’ll rebuild bread bridge, he’ll show a united front to the enemies on the server, but when it matters most he’s quicker than Scar to throw all alliances to the side and do everything it takes to win. The bad boys and their little outfits offer protection, and that’s all he’s interested in - bettering his odds until the timer’s ticking down and he’s in the danger zone. If anything this time mechanic makes it so much worse, his allies can’t even offer the later protection of one less opponent - the players aren’t opponents in this series, they’re scrambling for time and everyone is a target: omission doesn’t help Grian win, killing them does. Grian doesn’t trust red-Jimmy because if he was in his position he knows he would double-cross them - he doesn’t trust them, they shouldn’t trust him. He’s already taken two hours from Jimmy (or maybe that’s just his Watcher’s curse, to kill those he cares for, but that’s a whole other matter).

He’s killed Jimmy before, and I wouldn’t be surprised if, as the counter’s ticking down, as Jimmy has mere moments left on the server, he won’t offer his abundant time in return, no, he’ll take the few seconds Jimmy has to give himself another 30 minutes. 

Joel might try to defend Jimmy, but his heart won’t be in it, because it’s Grian, it’s a Bad Boy, and Joel’s too much of a team-man for that.
