16bit Sensation - Another Layer: Episode 10 thoughts
This episode nearly made me cry.
Konoha's expression of love for the rough, messy edges of Akiba is so, so strongly relatable to anyone who likes bishoujo. These games are great because they're not squeaky clean or widely marketable or what have you.
Similarly, Konoha's despair the art she loves is gone hits me really hard. There are works of art that I feel genuinely glad that I exist in the time and place to appreciate them, and to have them as part of my life.
But the show makes another important comment: just because the things that Konoha loves are no longer here, doesn't mean there's nothing in its place. Bishoujo still exists, and there are people that love it; love it as much as Konoha loves her bishoujo. And to claim that her work ruined the world she loves is selfish and disrespecful to the other people that made the world how it is – people who Konoha inspired.
No matter the time or place, people will make art, fall in love with art, and make art all over again. And it's important to cherish and preserve this art: Konoha's despair is genuine and valid, and she is encouraged to return to a world that she loves.
The ability to write a concluding sentence is failing me. But grrahhhhhhh this showwwwwiloveit
