YOU, NO, SOMETHING
Tumblr media
The challenges and opportunities of engaging the WEB3 space in a WEB2 world
Introduction I was asked by a friend, teammate, and fellow businessperson to write about my thoughts on building a business in the WEB3 space. The highlights are simple: YOU must have courage, NO is essential, and SOMETHING never comes from nothing.
Below are my thoughts:
YOU YOU have an idea—any idea, big or small. Start by telling someone you don’t know well about it.
This serves two purposes:
1. It pushes you to confront any insecurities about your idea.
2. It forces you to organize your thoughts, articulate your idea, and respond to feedback (whether you like it or not). The fear of looking or sounding foolish is natural. You will stumble, struggle to communicate your idea, and encounter criticism. People may question your path or even dismiss your idea altogether.
But this is all part of the process. Consider every critique a form of backhanded compliment. Take it all in, but only hold onto the feedback that helps refine your vision. The hardest part of nurturing a new idea is holding onto it in the face of opposition. But if you persevere, your idea will grow, evolve, and eventually stand on its own.
In the WEB3 space, the challenges are amplified. It has its own language, filled with technical terms and nuances. Many people will question your understanding or even your sanity. Embrace the challenge. Learn as you go, and work toward creating a common language for your project. This skill will serve you throughout your career.
Pro tip: Mutual respect is key to building relationships and earning trust in this space.
NO Learn to get comfortable with this word—both hearing it and saying it. You’ll hear “no” frequently:
“No, it can’t be done.”
“No, you’re wrong.”
“No, that’s not how it works.”
This is normal when you’re doing something new. But the real challenge lies in learning to say “no” yourself.
You must say “no” to distractions, unnecessary opportunities, and tangential paths that don’t align with your goals. Practice saying “no” to yourself, to others, and to anything that diverts your focus.
For example:
Say “no” to tasks or ideas that don’t serve your project’s purpose.
Say “no” when someone’s perspective doesn’t align with your goals.
Say “no” to overextending yourself when your team or family needs your attention.
WEB3 offers limitless possibilities, but for most of us, time and resources are finite. Saying “no” keeps you focused on what truly matters.
Pro tip: Master the art of saying “no” without actually using the word.
SOMETHING Good things happen when you refuse to give up. Be open to unexpected outcomes. Whether your project is a DApp or something else in the WEB3 space, understand that success is not just about the project itself. It’s about the growth, relationships, knowledge, and opportunities that come with it. At first, you may feel overwhelmed by the opportunities and challenges that come your way. But over time, you’ll learn to identify the “somethings” that truly align with your vision. A self-reinforcing loop will form, where every success fuels the next. Pro tip: Don’t force this process. When the right opportunities come, you’ll recognize them.
Bridging WEB3 and WEB2 The WEB3 space is still in its infancy. While it’s exciting and full of potential, most of the world operates in a WEB2 framework. To succeed, adapt your project to be accessible and understandable to a broader audience. If you make your product easy to use and adopt, you’ll be ahead of the curve. Be honest with yourself and your audience. Approach the “wild west” of WEB3 with humility and professionalism.
Conclusion Now YOU KNOW SOMETHING. Starting a project in WEB3 will challenge you, change you, and open doors you never imagined. Remember to engage with the space thoughtfully, stay focused, and embrace the journey.
If you have any questions, think about them, ask yourself, and then feel free to ask me.

The Shark, the Hedgehog, and the Sheep
Tumblr media
NaaS: Where it all comes together. You may be thinking — how in the world do sharks, hedgehogs, and sheep make sense in the context of GreatRWB (GRWB) and XPoll? Please read along, and I’ll explain. So let’s begin with some context to my reflection here… As an introvert, I struggle with recuperating from public engagement. While I can speak on many things and be seen in the public eye, I definitely do not gain my energy from those experiences. It’s really quite the opposite — but it causes me to shift and change my perspective. So, after a week of public speaking — first at a conference at The University of Rhode Island, and then at an AMA for GRWB — I am using my energy to connect with people through writing. In regular form, I offer my thoughts from my most recent experiences to add commentary on my projects — XPoll.io and GRWB.com. In this instance, I want to talk about the power of shifting perspective, leveraging fear, and realizing value — especially within the evolving Web3 ecosystem.
🦈 The Shark To most, the shark is a scary and misunderstood ancient killing machine. But if we look at sharks as agents of balance throughout the sea, we begin to understand their importance — how they work to keep our oceans vigorous. With just a small shift in perspective, we might be inclined to live and let live — so that our favorite swimming beaches don’t have dead fish washing over them. In this instance, I hope that my work encourages a new perspective when it comes to the often scary, misunderstood, and ancient killing machine that is political discourse in America. Many stay away from it, and most refrain from engagement — especially publicly. As a project, Great Red White and Blue (GRWB) is an effort to change how we engage the ever-evolving decentralized internet, simultaneously as it changes around us — all the while maintaining vigilant attention to the waters. I suppose when it comes to business, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. To me, there is nothing more beautiful than rewarding and empowering people to seek and attain more information — and rewarding them for their contributions to others. Actions speak louder than words and thoughts, so I created a representative “Shark” company swimming around the seas of the world. This shark consumes information, begs to be understood, and asks you to shift your perspective on your involvement with civil discourse.
🦔 The Hedgehog When you look at the best of the best, you can’t see them from just one window. For those that don’t know, hedgehogs are resilient little creatures that have but one defense mechanism — curving up using their quill-covered body to dissuade predators. This little guy has cast off all other distractions and perfected its only ultimate move. You have to admire a creature that quietly goes about its business, understands its strengths and weaknesses, and has a zen-like way to focus on its only goal – life. XPoll and GRWB have adopted lessons from the hedgehog. If you change perspective for a moment — and see both as integral parts of a synergistic system — you will note that the only goal amongst them is to value and reward human thoughts as they are expressed on the internet. The focus is to pay you for your opinion — your input and our reward system is how we stay alive. Now, I am not a computer scientist, or an online guru with social media expertise. I am not an accountant, and I am certainly not any more than a founder of something much larger than myself, trying to get my product off the ground. So the only way that I know how to do just that is to look for the experts. I will search out experts in all areas, to hone in on what they do best, and persuade them to join my cause. So in essence, I recruit other hedgehogs from around the world and simply ask and empower them to do what they do best — nothing more and nothing less. I have the innate ability to focus and cast off all other distractions in order to quietly go about my business — knowing full well what my strengths and weaknesses are. I have dedicated my life to having as many conversations with as many people as I can and simply tell them what I am up to, show them some of the things that I’m doing, and lastly teach them about it all if they seem interested. I am not only building networks as solutions, but my goal is to become one myself.
🐑 Finally, the Sheep Ah, the sheep. Sheep are amazing animals. I am a sheep farmer — or I should say, rescuer. I own and operate Terranova Livestock Animal Sanctuary, so I may be a little biased — but they truly are amazing animals. Interestingly, while sheep provide fiber to make wool, meat to eat, are wonderful lawn mowers, and leave behind excellent fertilizer — it is nearly impossible to make money on them in the USA. I come from a family that has been astute in business acumen, ventures, and practice — so one might question the incentive of rescuing sheep, or my sanity for that matter. To be clear: the fact that these animals provide so much, but the tangible reward so little, doesn’t make any sense at all! Do you feel like a sheep? If you do, it is because this is how the centralized digital system has treated you. So here’s my point — almost everyone I know spends a significant amount of time contributing to or interacting with the internet. You are giving more information to a system than you know — for nothing in return. To my knowledge, only a few are financially rewarded for their contributions to this system. Wouldn’t it be nice to at least get a sense of your value, so that in turn, you could demand your worth as it truly is? Wouldn’t it be nice to ask for something in return, when so much of what you do, feel, think, and say is used for another’s gain? XPoll and GRWB are laying the groundwork for presenting the possibility of an answer to these questions. We will need the herd to begin to reflect my position — and challenge themselves to change their perspective, trust me to do what I do best, and realize their value to the world for doing this work that many already do, just by going about their day. I am looking for those unhinged rams to break down the gates — and for the herd to feel empowered. Alone, not much can be done. But together, we can cloth and feed the world over. All you have to do is give a shit — or in this instance, help me fertilize the field.
That’s how I make sharks, hedgehogs, and sheep work together. Yes — all puns were intended. Not everyone is a shark, the hedgehogs know who they are, and the many unhinged sheep out there are my people. A blend of all three? Even better.
With the highest regards, Stanton Terranova Chief Shark, Founder, Farmer and Attorney at Large

Flower Child 🌸💐💃🏼🌺🌼🐝 March 1971 - when I was a free spirited little hippie gal, all of 19. My boyfriend of 8 months, George Richard Wright Bush Jr., was taking my picture in front of the house he shared with Gunnar Hansen. It was on Avenue G in Central Austin, near the UT campus. Gunnar and I were sworn enemies. He was relentless in making sure I was left out while he and George went out to hunt chicks, drink beer, and smoke pot. George was quite easily encouraged in all three cases. After 13 months with philandering George, the incessant liar, I’d had my fill. I got out the back, Jack, didn’t look in the rearview, and happily lost track of both of them. George would try to talk to me on campus, but I was done. I’d taken the cure. Ah, love. Good riddance I said. I hoped.
This was two years and four months before Gunnar’s and my paths would cross again. It was on July 18, 1973, the first day on the set where we were beginning filming what would become the cult horror classic, "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre," 1974. The TCM cast, crew, producers, et all were gathered in Quick Hill, just outside Austin, Texas, at what would be called, “The Sawyer house”. It was located across a dirt road from what we came to think of as “the old Hardesty house”.
I was in for a big surprise that morning. Unbeknownst to either Gunnar, or myself, we'd both been cast in this little non-union (aka ’scab’) local horror film, "HEADCHEESE”, a working title. I was standing outside the Sawyer house on that muggy, hot Texas morning, chit-chatting with my acting colleagues, ‘Sally’, ‘Kirk’, ‘Jerry’, and ‘Franklin’ (you know them). We were getting to know one another. We were all dressed in our costumes, all our own clothes that they’d picked out from different outfits we’d brought from home for them to choose from, for us to wear in the film, a strictly low-budget affair. Nearby, parked in the yard of the Sawyer house, was the Vortex RV/trailer/office, a no frills, no AC job, where we were soon to sign our first contracts. Everyone was pretty excited and a bit lost.
Producer-writer, Kim Henkel, stuck his head out the open RV door and excitedly called over to me, “Hey, Teri!! Come over here! I want to introduce you to 'Leatherface!” OK, I’m ready. Kim seemed thrilled, proud as punch for us to meet. As I stepped inside, I made my way down the narrow aisle, walking toward a very large figure, a man with a head full of brown curly hair, who was sitting with his back to me. He took up one of the two banquette seats. Someone was seated across from him, but I can’t remember who. As I got even with him, I noted he was almost as tall sitting down as I was standing up. This guy was big. I was feeling an eery sense of deja vu. Kim said, “Leatherface, meet Pam!” Ta-da! He turned toward me and cocked his head to look at me, both of us prepared to say, “Hey, nice to meet ya!!” Instead, we both looked at one another in sheer horror. We each jerked back with our mouths wide open. Simultaneously, we both blurted out, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE??!!!” They call them "excited utterances."
Well, we got through the moment, gathered our wits, quickly cooled our heels, and shared little with those around us. (Ai-yi-yi!! What have I gotten myself into? 😱) Toward the end of the day, on a break, we had coffee together. Turns out, George and Gunner had had a falling out. George had parted the G-Avenue house owing Gunner money, just as good ol’ George had also owed me money when we’d parted.
It would be grossly unfair to posterity not to list GRWB’s many good qualities. Gunnar would want me to do that. Over the years, they managed to reconcile. In 2012 Gunn invited me to meet him at El Mercado in South Austin, to interview me for his book. At the end, he asked if I ever talked to George, and had a few choice tidbits to tell me… but that’s a whole other story!
GB and I moved back in together after he moved from Ave G, however he never told me why he left Ave G and Gunn, or even that they’d had a falling out. He could be sneaky! All I knew was that I didn’t have to ever see my sworn mortal enemy, Gunnar Dang Hansen, ever again! Pretty sure GB moved out at the end of the spring semester of ’71, (after that picture above taken of me at their house). Then, we moved back in together (again!) to a cool house in Tarrytown in Austin.
GRWB was charming, imaginative, smart, witty, spontaneous, creative, LOVED good music, laughing, good fabric, cashmere sweaters, had style, panache, exquisite taste, was thoughtful, kind, crazy/wild, sweet, positive, complimentary, expert at apologizing, remorseful, loving, adventurous, and a true dreamer. We had tremendous chemistry and loads and loads of fun times together. We went everywhere together, went to Willie’s first picnic together in ’71. I believe we broke up 13 times in 12 months, usually getting back together within 48 hours. He was talented, witty, and, he had an absolute genius for finding new places for us live.(~_*).
As for Gunnar and I, we kicked heels, and fortunately, had a great time filming our scenes together. We buried the tired old proverbial hatchet, and the rest, my friends, is history.
Thanks for reading.
Sending love to all.
Rest In Peace 🥀🌹🥀 Gunnar Hansen 1947-2015 George R.W. Bush Jr. 1945-2017
