What If You Are an Amazing Image? How Would That Reflect on You?
In today’s devotional reflection (see what I did there?) we are thinking not only about the fact that God created us (which we did, yesterday), but about the fact that He created us in HIS image. “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them”. (Genesis 1:27 NIV) The Creative Distinctive You (as in all of you, as in mankind) are…

Made in the image of God Part 1
What does it mean?
Modern atheistic scientists tell us that humans are in an unimportant species, found on an insignificant planet in an obscure part of the cosmos. On this approach what are the implications for a single human life?
However this is not what the bible says nor what Christians believe.
Wikipedia definition of 'image'
¨An image is a visual representation of something. An image can be a two-dimensional representation, such as a drawing, painting, or photograph, or a three-dimensional object, such as a carving or sculpture.
Here is the first mention in scripture of the phrase 'made in the image of God';
Genesis 1:26-27 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness…” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”
There is no clear consensus between theologians and philosophers on what the image of God (or its theological term ‘Imago dei’) might mean.
Learned scholars of diverse types think the meaning of 'made in the image of God' might include:
1. Humans are like God in that we are spiritual and rational beings and exercise free-will choices.
2. Humans are like God in being able to form complex relationships.
3. Humans are like God in being able to perform functions e.g. managing the planet and its resources which in some way represent God on earth.
All three views have their strengths and weaknesses but together might partly reflect the diverse ways that humans reflect the image of God.
However we can get get a much clearer explanation of 'made in the image of God' by turning to scripture. Most times we find that it is best to let scripture interpret scripture (see part 2 of this study to see what the bible says about 'made in the image of God').
Amen

Just Like Our Heavenly Father
Of course, we have great love for our children – we are just like our Heavenly Father! I was thrilled when I recently saw the Facebook post of a precious young woman that I, and many others, had been praying for. Her greatest desire and prayer was to be able to conceive a baby. It took years, but now she holds that precious baby in her arms. We can sense her gratitude to God for this precious…

Genesis 15:3-5 (FBV). [3] “Abram went on to complain, “Look! You haven't given me any children, so a servant from my household has to be my heir!” [4] But then the Lord told him, “This man won't be your heir. Your heir will be your very own son.” [5] The Lord took Abram outside and said to him, “Look up at the sky. See if you can count the stars! That's how many descendants you will have!”
Genesis 16:1-4 (FBV) [1] “Sarai, Abram's wife, hadn't been able to have any children for him. However, she owned a female Egyptian slave named Hagar, [2] so Sarai said to Abram, “Please listen to me. The Lord hasn't let me have any children. So please go and sleep with my slave. Maybe I can have a family through her.” Abram agreed to what Sarai had suggested. [3] So Sarai, Abram's wife took her Egyptian slave Hagar and gave her to her husband as his wife. Abram had been living in the land of Canaan for ten years when this happened. [4] Abram slept with Hagar and she became pregnant. When she realized she was pregnant, she treated her mistress with contempt.”
Psalm 27:13 (NIV). “I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.”
“Waiting for God” by In Touch Ministries:
“Trusting God's timing is always a wise choice.”
“Our culture is an “instant” society. A fast pace isn’t necessarily bad, but we should guard against becoming so set on immediate fulfillment that we can’t wait for God’s timing
In Genesis 15:4-5, after Abraham shared frustration about him and Sarah being childless, God revealed the couple would have a son and innumerable descendants would follow. Abraham believed God but eventually decided to handle matters on his own, building a family through Sarah’s servant (Genesis 16:1-4).
Abraham probably rationalized his decision, figuring that the Lord wanted him to have a son—and since it seemed impossible any other way, surely this must be what the Lord wanted him to do! But it wasn’t. Abraham had to deal with the consequences of his actions, including jealousy and resentment between Sarah and Hagar. These problems in turn created further difficulties, both in the short term and throughout history. The Lord was faithful, though—14 years later, Sarah gave birth to a son named Isaac.
Like Abraham, you might believe God’s promises but prefer instant results. Or you just want things done your way. Instead, ask the Father to lead you. Then wait for Him. His way may not be what you think you want, but it is always best.”

Exploring Psalm 35:
Honest Prayers and Lasting Love Introduction: Psalm 35 has always intrigued me with its raw, emotional pleas for justice. In this psalm, David uses powerful language asking God to fight against his enemies and bring them to ruin. Yet, when we look at David’s actual responses to the deaths of those who persecuted him (like Saul and Absalom), we see him grieving deeply. He does not celebrate.…
