In February 1992, as part of their Dispatches documentary series, Channel Four screened excerpts from a video of ‘the first hard evidence’ of satanic child abuse. “The video shows the abuse of young adults in what is clearly a ritual context. Sex and blood rituals are taking place beneath a picture of Aleister Crowley. The trappings of black magic are obvious.” These claims were backed by the testimony of a cult survivor, and by the accounts of medical and police excerpts.
By February 13th 1992 The Independent on Sunday had reported that the video which claimed to be ‘the first hard evidence’ of satanic child abuse was made nine years earlier as performance art and featured film director Derek Jarman as visual presenter...By 8th March 1992, it became apparent that Channel Four themselves had commissioned the video material for an arts programme concerning the power of language of the televised image. The video, of which three copies were said to exist, was not made by Genesis P. Orridge.
By Sunday 1st March 1992, The Mail on Sunday had traced the elusive Jennifer. She was named as Louise Errington, mother of two healthy children and one time born-again Christian. In 1990 Louise had stayed at Ellel Grange, a Christian healing centre in Lancaster...One day, she said, the spiritual leader, lay preacher Peter Horobin, told her one of his prayer team had a vision. “He said he had seen a mind picture of me standing over a tiny baby, helping a devil priest to wield a knife. We cut into the baby’s chest and the blood was collected and we drank it. The baby’s body was a sacrifice to Satan.” Until that time, Louise Errington was not aware she had had this child. “I screamed and pleaded with them to please stop saying it. I had a sort of fit and had to be held down. I fought people off physically, finally I broke down and confessed it was true. I said yes, I did it. I killed my own little daughter and helped others to kill their babies.”...The Mail on Sunday also traced television presenter Andrew Boyd to the fundamentalist Petersfield Fellowship Church, of which he is a prominent member, co-incident to broadcast.
On 15th February 1992, 23 members of the Obscene Publications squad, armed with a search warrant and a video camera, raided Genesis P. Orridge’s Brighton home. They confiscated more than two tonnes of an arts archive including unpublished films by writer William S. Burroughs, experimental films by artist Brion Gysin, films by British director Derek Jarman which had never been shown, videos of the P. Orridge children’s birthday parties, every single photographic negative that was in the house, and DAT and U-matic film tapes containing studio master recordings for the next Psychick TV album.

I become soooo saaaad.
My x who i dated for very short time suggested to live together. He's such a boring person. I'm affraid i will lose everything artistic in me if i will live with him. And the worst is his phrase "its so New to me i have an euphoria bc of planning" oh God
Means he's still in love. I better live with Masha. She's boring but not SO boring.
I always needed a flat, even today my mom said: "what you play is not a music for me".
I always need a flat for music. But will my soul sing with this guy? Lol no. Joke is that he was a keyboard player in my band, Playing my synthesizer, he hadn't his own. Witch and him played together in school band, so once Witch took Pasha to repetition. He was quite fat, (me too lol), short and had pretty nice face and curly Brown hair, so not my type at all, but something was interesting in him. Music preferences. He was a fan of Genesis P-Orridge. Loved industrial music. And knew german band "DAF" which i like so much.
So his girlfriend (my namesake btw) leaved him and.. WE met, Last year, Yaroslav/my ex-husband found another girl and i was alone. I remember quite well he asked "why Yaroslav used makeup? You changed your roles, is it some play?" then once he said to me he have an archives of c.p. I was interested to watch. Especially Siberian Mouse. A group of girls around 13 who did some dirty things together in front of The camera till old man-director filmed them. So exciting. We came to cemetery and watched c.p. from his phone. Yeah. Children. Porn. He said: "here 8-13 y.o., here 13-16 and here is gay porn" - "you? Watch gay porn?" - "Yeah why not?" i didn't expect it from him and say it's okay, i like it as well though my first fav porn was lesbian.
Later he even say that he thought he can date a guy. "So what do you think of him? What he's like - the guy you could date?" - "all i know about him that he needs to be more feminine than i am" - i was satisfied by his answer.
We had more common topics except of music and porn, such as retro futurism, 9/11 and WTC (my fav one), abandoned buildings, industrial style etc.
So what's wrong? - he's boring sometimes. Very boring. You nearly can bear it.
We fucked only once, that was amazing but  because of me. And he was just shoked. He's 10 years younger and never expect a girl can be so passionate. And like so many things. Guys ask girls to do things what i ask boys to do with me. And i come from it. So he fall in love and started to say some boring things and do boring things. In one cold Day he took me for exibition of impressionists, that was fine to see especially when i stayed behind his back (i like the fact that he's so short, i could imagine me being the top with him if we change our roles) but i felt cold! I was bored!
And i decided : if we don't have a flat to fuck i can't date him anymore. And i said "Pasha, that's all".
And now he wants me to live with him. Hoo Hoo i don't know. I don't want anymore, he has a beard btw and i like shaved face. I didn't feel some exitement when we were in a Bar with beer.  And he doesn't play keyboards well. He's just like furniture in music, he can be in a band just for the count. I don't know... Is it a good idea...

Liner notes: -In the first half, listen for May Day revolt moods-Cascade, from Ghost Dance, was initially included as reference to the Paris Commune of 1871 which pops up in that film's web of associations. But then we learned that the wife of Jacques Derrida (who appears in the film), Marguerite Aucouturier, passed away on March 21 from Covid-19 // The next track, The Orchids (which plays over the end credits of Spectacle friend Marie Losier's The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye) was included as tribute to Genesis P-Orridge, who also sadly passed away in March. // Short Eyes, in which Curtis Mayfield both appears and provides the soundtrack, played at Spectacle last summer // There are also a number of singing children. Who knows why? // The first set ends with a song of rebellion from Ulrike Meinhof's lone screen-writing credit, Bambule ("Riot") // The second half opens and closes with director Aaron Schimberg's own compositions from Chained for Life. The film, along with Schimberg's debut Go Down Death, will be showing at Spectacle next Friday, May 8.-C. Spencer Yeh provided the rest of the score for Chained for Life -- you can hear that and a snatch of dialogue mid-set. // Michael Nyman's theme from The Falls used to close every show in our early days. "Miranda" is from the final film he scored for Peter Greenaway in 1991. // Since this show is the first version of the live audiovisual Spectacle Radio on Video, we played a number of rarely heard synth scores from the peculiar zone of films shot of video. Among those, JR Bookwalter's Ozone will return to Spectacle as part of a retrospective of four of his films on May 12 & 20. // -High Plains Heat was part of a live remix performance of the first Weather Channel broadcast from the early 80s. Full soundtrack available here until someone at the Weather Channel or Kenny Rogers' estate makes me take it down: https://rockhyrax.bandcamp.com/album/what-was-the-weather-channel // That's all. The show returns Wednesday, May 13, at 7pm, at twitch.tv/spectaclenyc

CHRISTIANE F. – Berlin, Bowie and Beyond
Tumblr media
June 1, 2014
Many in the international community, from Italy to the Czech Republic, who now call Berlin home, cite “Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo“ (Zoo Station. A Memoir) as a book – and film – which decisively shaped their perception of the city. When it was first published in 1978, Christiane Felscherinow’s warts and all description of her life as a teenage heroin addict and prostitute in mid-70s West Berlin was unprecedented. After the initial shock, many parents gave the book to their children (this author included) as a cautionary tale against drugs. “Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo” also reinforced the image of highrises as breeding grounds of social dysfunction (Christiane and her single mother had moved from Hamburg to the Gropiusstadt housing project in the Neukölln district). “Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo” became West Germany’s to date best-selling postwar non-fiction book and has since been published in 18 countries. It came as no surprise that an enterprising film producer like Bernd Eichinger would snap up the rights. Directed by Uli Edel, the adaptation became a huge international hit – and inadvertently promoted the “heroin chic” aesthetic.
Eternally entwined with the Christiane F. mythology is the music of David Bowie. In the mid-1970s, when the events of the book unfolded, the music Bowie released on his albums “Young Americans” and “Station to Station” was at its most glamorously alienated – robotic funk, chilly Philly soul and the beginnings of Bowie’s electronic experimentation. It captured the imaginations of countless teens like Christiane F.. Bowie is referenced on several occasions throughout the book. In attempt to win her favor, the new boyfriend of Christiane’s mother gave the girl the “Changesonebowie” greatest hits compilation… which she already had. On an unhappier note, after a Bowie concert at the now demolished Deutschlandhalle venue, Christiane took heroin for the first time in 1976.
When bringing the book to the screen, Edel (who replaced Roland Klick shortly before shooting began) and Eichinger sought Bowie’s involvement. He gave permission to use an album’s worth of his songs for the soundtrack which interestingly focused (with the exception of “Station to Station”) on work Bowie made while living in Berlin (to ostensibly kick his cocaine habit) between 1977 and 1979, after the time when the film takes place. Although “Heroes” hadn’t been released when Christiane and her friends were hitting the discos, the film montage sequence in the Ku’damm Eck and Europa Center shopping malls, set to Bowie’s special version with German lyrics (“dann sind wir Helden, für einen Tag”) has become an iconic image of late Cold War West Berlin. Even the fateful Bowie concert is recreated, with a performance at New York’s Hurrah club (at the time Bowie was starring in “The Elephant Man” on Broadway and unable to travel) intercut with footage of fans at an AC/DC concert at the Deutschlandhalle.
Christiane’s admiration of Bowie’s experimentation likely continued to influence her, as her teenage interest in rock led to her own musical endeavors. She became involved with the postpunk/new wave scenes in Berlin and Hamburg, working with future Einstürzende Neubauten members Alexander Hacke and FM Einheit. She released solo and collaborative records (with Hacke) that were recognized beyond her Zoo Station notoriety and starred in the dystopian and oddly prescient sonic mind control thriller “Decoder” (also featuring William Burroughs and Genesis P-Orridge), now a minor cult classic. Despite talent and hanging out with one of the most influential crowds in underground culture, sadly, Christiane’s music and acting career never took off.  In 2013 she returned to the public eye in a big way after decades of relapse and rehab cycles with a second book, “Christiane F. – Mein zweites Leben” (Christiane F. – My Second Life). Through her website she recently announced her retirement due to chronic illness. Christiane Felscherinow brought a major social problem into the open, and her honest depiction of her ongoing addiction issues encourages us to examine the allure of dangerous substances that is manifest in our culture. And her story, for better or worse, will forever be one layer of the Berlin mystique that echoes far beyond the city limits.
youtube
In cooperation with Exberliner magazine and Lichtblick Kino, this month’s Exblicks Berlin film screening is devoted to Bowie in Berlin. CHRISTIANE F. is showing on June 1 at 8:30 p.m. (with English subtitles), preceded by the documentary “Bowie in Berlin 1976 – 1979” at 6:00 p.m. The evening ends with a retrospective of Bowie’s music videos at 10:30 p.m., presented in cooperation with the short film festival Interfilm.

Quote
Our very first “memories” are hand-me-downs from other people. Various events and moments, amusing anecdotes of when we were babies and very small children. Usually stories from a period in our life that we actually cannot recall for ourselves. These are the cornerstones which we begin to add onto, building more conscious, personally recorded experiential memories. Usually, without much consideration of veracity or motive, we assume those original stories (whose source is usually parental) are true, rather than separately authored and constructed mythologies. Yet, with the best will in the world, they are edited highlights (and lowlights) from another person's perspective, interpreted by them, and even given significance and meaning by their being chosen to represent the whole of us, before our own separate SELF consciousness sets in. All the information we have at our immediate disposal as self-consciousness develops is from someone else. Everything about us is true. Everything about us is false. Everything about us is both. It is by omission that we are described exactly, creating an unfolding program not of our own choosing. We are edited bloodlines seeking an identity with only partial data and unknown motivation and expectation...       These inherited, brief memories are a little jigsaw puzzle, a picture that contains impressions of what kind of “child” we were in the eyes of our familial others. Without malicious intent necessarily, they still tend to guide us towards an unbalanced, prejudiced perception of who we are. They can easily become at least a basic sketch of our character by our parents, a blueprint made more solid by each retelling, less possible to challenge. Just as we tend to like to please our parents by doing what they praise, so we can also manifest and reinforce their criticisms as well. At their unintended worst, these assumptions and maps become the metaphors/enhancers/deciders/directives for a lifetime's neurotic self-image, selected recordings of who we are, who we are imagined to be, who we are instructed we are, who we are expected to become, what kind of adult we will unfold into and, of course, evidence of an inherited fiction from which we will be conditioned as to how we too will perceive the world and our place in and on it. Looping around and around, a self-perpetuating, self-fulfilling and prophetic sampling into which we immerse ourselves without any great wisdom to hint we might wait and see, listen and watch, question and perhaps even re-edit in order to maximize our potential to become.
