Hi! I love your meta btw, your recent posts reminded me that yu gi oh exist lol i used to watch it as a kid but I don't remember anything so I wanted to ask you what's the best watch order and (maybe) your general opinion about the various spinoff
Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters: I'd recommend watching this one first because every spin-off after this one either recycles archetypes, or subverts tropes from the original so it'll enhance your viewing experience.
Afterwards, the simplest is release order. GX -> 5DS are in the same continuity as Duel Monsters, and they have a crossover Film Bonds Beyond Time.
Zexal's basically a standalone it has no connection to the previous, but I'd reccomend watching it after Duel Monsters because there are a lot of references in plot and tropes to the original.
You need to have watched GX, 5DS, and Zexal to understand Arc-V because they reference settings and characters from the original series. It's basically every single Yu-Gi-Oh! Series fights in a Denny's Parkinglot.
You don't need to see any previous series to watch Vrains.
You need to watch Sevens before Go!Rush because the main character of Sevens shows up in Go!Rush, and Go!Rush is a prequel sort of kind of.
As for my general opinions and reccomendations, below the cut:
Duel Monsters is the original and sets the standard. I think the manga is better on this one because it acknowledges Death-T, which I think is crucial for Kaiba's development. He did more than just steal one of Yugi's Grandpas cards. The arc of the main characters Yugi and Yami with Yugi learning confidence and Yami unlearning arrogance is really good, especially in the manga where Yami starts out as a lowkey serial killer. Battle City and Duelist Kingdom are also two really good tournament arcs, Battle City in particular is probably the best Tournament Arc in the Series.
Yu-Gi-Oh GX! Is my personal favorite but it's a mess. I've once heard it described as "GX is two seasons of absurdist nonsense, and then a complete emotional breakdown." In my opinion there's a lot of good foreshadowing and buildup for what will happen in Season 3, and Season 3 is one of the best shonen deconstruction arcs especially of it's main protagonist in anything ever.
Honestly the worst part of Season 1 and 2 for me isn't even the pacing, it's that it recycles plot points from Yu-Gi-Oh! but less good. The Seven Shadow riders just do shadow duels because they did that in original Yu-Gi-Oh, there are three super powerful cards like the Egyptian God Cards. In season 2 there's a villain with a split personality like Marik, and the Genex tournament is really bad plotless meandering tournament arc compared to Battle City.
Season 3 is also masterful at utilizing things that were foreshadowed in the past 3 seasons, especially in regards to Judai's flaws which have been swept under the rug until now.
I think YGO GX is one of the best casts, and also one of the best at balancing screentime of its cast so characters show up when they're relevant and disappear when they're not relevant, and every major character has an arc. However, it's very much the Judai show, and if you're invested in a character that's not Judai you'll likely think your fave didn't get used to their fullest potential.
Yu-Gi-Oh 5DS has one of the best beginnings of any Yu-Gi-Oh series and it's excellent at building Fortune Cup -> Dark Signer and jacking up tension. Dark Signer, Barian Arc and Gx Season 3 are probably my top 3 arcs. I won't talk about it much because I don't want to spoil.
Season 2 is still good, and the ending is excellent as well as the villains, but the pacing becomes abysmal due to production issues. Carly and Aki are probably the two best female characters in all of Yu-Gi-Oh, and all their screentime and relevance gets erased. If you watch Yu-Gi-Oh for the duels, the relay duels suck and last 3 whole seasons and nobody gets to win a duel if they're not Yusei Fudo. As someone who really enjoyed Yusei in season 1, him becoming a perfect hero who always saves the day and never makes mistakes and never gets challenged signifcantly by the narrative because he's always right makes him super uninteresting. I want to clarify I think Yusei is still a character with depth and character flaws, but the narrative doesn't challenge him on this flaws. Aporia and Z-One do a lot to redeem Season 2 though and it ends on a real highpoint.
Yu-Gi-Oh Zexal is probably the highest quality Yu-Gi-Oh series overall, especially since there's no drop in quality ever it ends on it's highest point. Shark is probably the single best written character in all of Yu-Gi-Oh! and Vector is the best written villain.
I actually don't have much to say on Zexal because I don't want to spoil what's good about it. My only complaint is that it's cast is padded with way too many characters who do nothing. You could cut Yuma's entire friend group and lose absolutely nothing. The female characters in Zexal are abysmal too, the worst in any series. The characters with arcs though are all good and iconic.
It's also the only show that manages the ambiguity where none of the villains are actually villains, almost every single character has a sympathetic reason for what they're doing even the ones that are wrapped up in revenge plots. It gives a really interesting challenge to Yuma the pacifist protagonist who doesn't want to pick sides. Yuma's up there with Judai too in top ten protagonists.
Arc-V.... I think you can still have fun with Arc-V, but the Z-arc plotline just was not a good idea and it makes the show fundamentally flawed because everything from episode 20 onwards is built around the Z-Arc plotline.
Vrains has some solid ideas and themes. I especially love the emergent ai ideas that are present with the ignis and bohmann it's one of my favorite topics in science fiction. I've got two main problems number. I enjoy playmaker as a character, but much like Yusei I feel like over time he's not as challenged as character by his narrative. THough, the final season does a lot to rectify that.
Vrains second and biggest problem is that it plays it really safe after the production disaster that was Arc-V. Which means the first two seasons while enjoyable enough feel kind of by the numbers at times. The third season is amazing though, but it suffers from the series being cut short so it's only about 20 episodes. Still ending on a high note is always a good thing.
Sevens is kind of the closest to a slice-of-life Yu-Gi-Oh which makes it hard to compare to the other series. I do enjoy the main cast of characters, but to be honest it's really hard to get invested for me personally, when every arc is just "I hate Rush Duels. I'm going to try to destroy Rush Duels. Nevermind, Rush duels are awesome actually." Every. Single. Arc.
I'm only 16 episodes into Go-Rush and it's not finished yet, but my main take so far is: Yudias! Yudias! Yudias!

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX Episodes 102-104 Subbed (Finalized)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Previously: Episodes 99-101 Subbed [Finalized])
(Check out my Subbed!GX Stream Masterpost!)
TURN-102: The Pulse of Light VS the Neo-Spacians
Ed was defeated in his battle against Saiou, who was taken by the Pulse of Light. Saiou asks Judai for his key to the laser satellite in exchange for Ed, pushing him into a corner. Right then, Neos appears and prevents the key from getting to Saiou--causing a furious Saiou to duel with Judai and settle this. As with his bout with Ed, he predicts the future, leading the duel to play out in his favor. For his part, Judai uses his Fusion specialty to summon Monsters, but...
TURN-103: Judai in a Pinch! The Light Barrier Field Magic
Saiou, taken by the Pulse of Light, activates his Light Barrier Field Magic. This barrier has an effect that even weakens the power of Card Spirits, driving Judai's Monsters into a corner. Saiou also summons his "The World" Arcana Force and pounces on Judai. Elsewhere, with both laser satellite keys in hand, Prince Ojin--being controlled by the evil Saiou--activates the satellite. Kenzan tries to stop him, but he's already too late as the laser satellite fires its beam right at the Earth. Will it be possible to...
TURN-104: Whither Victory?! Judai VS Saiou
Judai summons his Glow Neos and destroys Light Barrier, waging a direct attack against the evil Saiou upon turning the tables. Driven into a dilemma, the evil Saiou tributes The Material Road, The Spiritual Road, and The Heavens Road to summon his ultimate card, Arcana Force Extra - The Light Ruler, using it to deal him an intense blow. For his part, Judai also has Gran Mole and Neos do a Contact Fusion and summons Gran Neos as he shifts into a counterattack, but...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A bit delayed due to some life stuff going on (like moving!), episodes 102-104 are now up and finalized as we make our way into the Season 2 finale!
that Saiou eyecatch is haunting my nightmares all over again
As this three-parter gets underway, we have the aftermath of Ed losing to Saiou as the Light within him decides to use him as leverage to get the second SOLA key from Judai; once he does and tries to get them for himself, Neos shows up to stop that, forcing him to duel Judai for them (I do like how, when Judai tells the Light he'll give up on his plans if Judai wins after he's given up his key, Saiou correctly notes, "The keys are already with me and you expect me to agree to your terms?" lol). This is one of my favorite duels because of how much it emphasizes Judai's attitude of "the future's not set, we change our fates with each card we draw!" that he first told Ed about in episode 53, along with the foreshadowing we get to the events of Season 3--and the huge literal shadow it puts into play. At the same time, we have GeneX finishing up as Rei makes her surprise comeback and duels Manjoume for the championship, and I like that it serves as good cutaway material from the Judai/Saiou duel, though I do wish we got to see more of Rei's deck (especially since, 17 years later, her Mystic cards have still not been printed). Ojama Yellow also gets to make the finishing blow, to the onlookers' chagrin, which is fun, and Saiou and Mizuchi get to satisfyingly reunite in the end which is cute.
Also, Kenzan's dino DNA helps him turn into a Space Saurus to help bust up SOLA--A+ content.
(Quick Translation Note: As Manjoume and his group approach the remaining Society of Light members, he's holding a Gunbai baton (the Gunbai being "a type of signal baton and Japanese war fan," per Wikipedia) with the Japanese text 一意専心 on it, translating to "with heart and soul." I translated it for the hardsub, as covered here, in the two scenes it appears in by applying the English text over the Japanese text in Photoshop--similar to the edit worked on by Kay for episode 9's "Fighting Spirit" banner. I was also inspired with "Whither Victory" for 104's title translation after looking at a Dragon Ball Kai title used for the dub that more concisely conveyed the "where is victory" idea in the JP title here.)
Animation error-wise, interesting mix here. I worked on about 30 of them altogether (a bit fewer than in 99-101), not counting the additional hardsub-only edits I made to translate the "With Heart and Soul" staff Manjoume carries for two clips in 102 or fix re-applications during the recaps; part of the delay with this was my moving and adjusting accordingly, as it took a few days before I could work on these fixes. About half of these were little quality-of-watching fixes, mostly split-screens but including fixing a stat-counter SFX error in 102, while the rest were mixes of incomplete-drawing errors, card errors, and card-related consistency errors--with a little "missing Burstlady shoulder strap" for good crowd-favorite measure. More in my separate post here with my usual fix/edit breakdown for the interested, due to Tumblr’s dumb link limit in posts yeeting them out of the tags used and limiting their reach, to give you a more visual element to it! (And had to split it in two again due to that) have I mentioned my love for this show is like an Ojama
Quick housekeeping: made a slight revision to 101 to update Saiou's line as he summons Light Ruler vs Ed for consistency with the tweak I made in 102. The 101 link in 99-101's release post now links to the re-uploaded version; I've updated its link in the Masterpost and will be posting the re-finalized hardsub/script/MKV on NAC soon as I post these.
Anywho, enjoy! Feels really good to get Season 2 taken care of, as that makes 104 episodes I've finalized my translations for; while I did like most of my last-go-around work on 102-104, it was good to make some updates to match my current style. With that, of course, comes a brief little Season-ending lull period; I'll be doing a little housekeeping to correct a few ending-credit typos in episodes 83 and 89, and a minor sub-styling correction in episode 81, which I'll post on NAC once done. After that, I'll putting in a little more work on a special project in progress that I'll hopefully post about soon over the next few weeks, along with work to prep for finalizing Season 3, including touching up my last textless edit for Teardrop V1 (which wasn't released officially textless and has Judai all sad with Johan, used from 105-112) and some work on some other side projects. All told, thinking I'll start small with work on 105 starting later this month, since a clip-show episode works well to come back with and all, lol; stay tuned!
For some reason my game just keep on loading and couldn't seem to continue to chapter 2? Or did the demo really ends at the first chapter for now? Also, i'm still a bit lost here, could you maybe tell us more about the alpha sigma beta omega thing? Maybe explain it? Also, what's the hierarchy?
Oh no the demo ends at chapter 1 and chapter 2 is currently work in progress. Its 3/4 done and I have to update the demo in October.
There isn't a clear cut hierarchy between the Metas since they have different strengths but personally I like the Betas most.
Here's the background.
Oh and I nearly forgot to mention. Metas stand for Meta humans.
Eighteen years ago, the Government had sponsored a series of projects based on bioweapons and structure enhancement. A certain doctor gave them the results and did the impossible. Dr Olivia Hartman was the head of project GENEX. She managed to create a new breed of super humans with different abilities based on a specific gene mutation. There are four variants:
Alpha: Enhanced muscle density and stamina. Alphas can perform feats of strength and touch speeds that normal humans can only dream of. However unlike the superheroes in comic books, they aren’t capable of lifting cars and outrunning lightning. They were built to be the next generation of soldiers with higher physical parameters. Alphas also show a faster rate of cell regeneration and healing. Alphas are the most common of Meta humans.
Omega: Omega’s are born with a more special set of gifts. Their senses of hearing, sight and smell are stronger than an ordinary human. Tests have proven that a grade four omega has a stronger sense of smell than a bloodhound. Omegas placed at grade seven and above are known to use echo location. Omegas are rarer and highly sought after in the investigations department.
Sigma: All sigma’s possess an IQ of above 160. Sigma’s are extremely rare and are considered to be the most powerful of all the Meta Humans. Sigma’s are capable of telekinesis and hypnosis, dangerous gifts that are extremely difficult to control. Most sigma’s are able to bypass the detection tests performed at birth as it’s a difficult code to map.
Betas: Oddly enough the term fails to describe the potential of their ability. Betas are the rarest of all Metas. They are so rare that their existence is considered to be a myth. The gene code is extremely hard to come across and near impossible to replicate successfully. Most Beta’s don’t make it past their early teens because they are farmed for their unmatchable abilities.
Hope this clears it up.
Returning to the kingdom, he declined the offer of nobility from the king, and in return asked for a modest little home in which he could raise his daughter. He thus decided to raise the child as his own. After coming to, he was on the outskirts of the Demon Realm, with a little girl holding his hand. She asked her old friend to take the child and raise her with the humans, and enjoy a normal life as a human. It was there that he found Isabelle, standing beside a demon youth with a child in his arms. One day during his search, the man came upon an Oasis. He became the only one who still searched for her without fail, hoping to find her again. After ten years of searching, the men around him died and the name of Isabelle became a relic of the past. Desperate to save her, the King ordered an expedition into the Demon Realm to find her, her friend was also in this group. A dear friend of hers who traveled and battled with her was there on the day when she stopped the Demon King's army, but the two separated in that battle and Isabelle disappeared. The war stopped due to her efforts, and the kingdom has been saved. Her name was Isabelle, a skilled swordsman and a powerful magician. It was then that a hero stepped up and descended into the Demon Realms in order to convince the Demon King to stop by any means possible. The Human Kingdom was losing terribly, as the human soldiers couldn't stand up against the ranks of the Demon Army.
A torrent of humans poured into the Demon Realm, causing the Demon King to break his silence and retaliated with war. However, the main source of this stone comes from the Realms of the Demons deep within a forest, and yet the people went on to mine regardless of the dangers. This lead to a revolution of enlightenment in magic, and people were trying to make money by harvesting these stones. Using a kind of magical stone, alchemists and magicians were able to make many inventions in the way of magic. The premise is that before the beginning of the game, magic had just been perfected in the Human Kingdom. The time might be later than Princess Maker 2 as the city looks a little closer to those from the Renaissance than those from the Middle Ages. The story takes place in a setting similar to Princess Maker 2, a fictitious location that resembles western Europe. Originally, the daughter in the game was a girl named Karen, who is now in Princess Maker Q.ĭisplay: VRAM 8MB / 640x480 Resolution / 16 Bit The Chinese localization made several changes to the game, one of which is the exclusion of the Best Friend/Girl endings in which your daughter presumably falls in love with one of the three possible friends in the game. Who are the most powerful members of the Warriors? and like in the tWoA universe in general? because at first i just assumed Genex but most of the members of the warriors are children of death gods so now idk
Okay ! That actually is pretty fair and I honestly do like thinking about this.. I'll also include people that are dead/no longer a part of the Warriors to give a better picture of the power structure! (this doesn't include gods btw) * = dead member ^ = former member
the warriors of aregon--in order from most to least powerful
Aiden Cronsby
Ethan
Jessie
Tarquin *
Nora
Genex
Carroline, Benji
Jason ^
Zaiyn
Oliver ^, Jamie, Kitty
Jacob
Simeon
Feel free to ask questions about these, since I don't really give any explanation on them. I ran a poll with my friends and these were the results for the question (which was who they thought the most powerful warrior was):
Genex--4 votes Nora--1 vote Zaiyn-- Jessie--2 votes Tarquin/Ethan--1 vote Carroline/Benji-- Jason-- Oliver-- Jamie/Kitty-- Jacob-- Aiden--1 vote Simeon--
(I asked my friend who voted for Aiden why she chose him. She responded, "Because it's always the quiet kid" lmao)
Thanks for reading, and I hope this was interesting & answered your question! Always feel free to ask more <3, Bat
Impressions on Disaster Dragon Variants So Far
Standard Disaster is probably the simplest to play and the most flexible in its lack of a singular focus. It isn't as strong as some of the other versions, but makes up for it in its adaptability and ability to play through bad hands. It's also the best to use for tag duels because it synergizes well with Jack Atlas's deck and doesn't offer the AI too many extra chances for boneheaded plays.
Hopeless Dragons is cool as hell but also surprisingly hard to play well. Controlling how many DARK monsters you have in the graveyard, and what those DARK monsters are, is key, so you always have to monitor that and plan ahead. However, if you can manage that, it's one of the strongest versions, and probably the best at OTKing fast and making sudden comebacks.
Horus is probably my favorite version so far, at least marginally, but also the most adept at the lockdown element of the strategy. A lot of my duels with it end in a position where my opponent could do virtually nothing, and the sheer offensive capabilities inherent to a Disaster Dragon deck means I can usually close out games before my opponent can find an out that works under all of my floodgates.
Frozen Ray was kind of awkward to figure out since Yugipedia was so vague, but it enjoys some of the very best of the WATER attribute without sacrificing any of the power of Dragons. Between Deep Sea Diva and Genex Ally Birdman, this is probably the best version so far at Synchro Summoning. With all the bouncing combined with Spiritual Water Art - Aoi, this version is also the best at removing targets safely.
Tribute Dragons (Light and Darkness Disaster + Spirit Well) is the newest, but has not yet lost a duel. The only version so far to not include Tuners, this one makes up for the lack of flexibility with sheer oppressive force. First, I use Totem Dragon to summon Yamata Dragon, allowing me to draw up to five cards with a single attack. Then, I play Light and Darkness Dragon to lockdown the game after securing huge card advantage with Yamata Dragon. It's too early to judge its worthiness, but so far it's exceeded my expectations.
Pumped Hydro Storage Market Trends 2022-2028: Growth Drivers and Future opportunities
The pumped hydro storage market is poised to be at the cusp of promising expansion on account of the increasing energy demand worldwide and the rising focus on various alternatives for renewable sources. These systems are known to deliver enhanced stability, energy-balancing, and storage capacity, along with ancillary grid services, including network frequency control and reserves. In fact, they can be touted as an important investment that caters to the escalating energy needs at peak times and storage.
The limitations of fossil-fueled power plants in terms of more reactivity & sustainability and cutting down CO2 emissions as well as the surging obligation for grid support services are also favoring the growth of the pumped hydro storage industry.
Apart from being considered a natural large-scale energy storage solution, this technology offers reactive power support services for frequency control, black-start capabilities and synchronous or virtual inertia.
Request for a sample copy of this research report @ https://www.gminsights.com/request-sample/detail/2019
A large number of participants operating in this industrial avenue are placing persistent efforts on growth-driven marketing strategies and are taking up contracts and capacity expansions to accelerate their global presence. For instance, in January 2022, Genex Power Ltd commenced the construction activities across its 250-MW Kidston pumped-storage hydro project site located in Queensland, Australia.
In recent years, open-loop pumped hydro storage solutions are witnessing higher installation across the U.S. They employ a continuous source of downstream water which is pumped uphill to an upper storage reservoir. To generalize, these plants pump water that has already passed through the dam up to the storage reservoir over the dam. However, minimum water flow, water temperature, drought, and fish passages are some of the issues related to this technology.
In North America, the increasing requirement for various renewable energy sources is a major driver influencing the pumped hydro storage industry development. The high electricity demand in the region and the thriving need for cutting down greenhouse gas emissions have made way for several modes of cheap energy storage.
The increasing number of investments and the growing federal support inclusive of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) are other factors adding to the regional pumped hydro storage market growth. In fact, the U.S., in 2021, had 43 operating pumped hydro plants, accounting for a total generating capacity of around 22 gigawatts and over 553 gigawatt-hours in energy storage capacity.
Browse report summary @ https://www.gminsights.com/industry-analysis/pumped-hydro-storage-market
Closed-loop pumped hydro storage industry is expected to significantly expand in the coming years, on account of their larger preference as they pose lower environmental risks in comparison to their open-loop counterparts.
Apart from this, what makes these systems significantly favored is that they have fewer impacts, given that there is no water transfer from a free-flowing source apart from the potential need for evaporation make-up water, after the initial filing of the reservoir. This also leads to reduced aquatic issues, such as fish passage, and sediment migration.
Global pumped hydro storage market growth will be positively affected by the notable presence of reputed organizations, such as Schluchseewerk AG, Sinohydro Corporation, Genex Power Limited, J-POWER, Voith GmbH & Co., KGaA, Toshiba Energy System & Solutions Corporation, DEC
North America Medical Case Management Market to See Profit with an increasing CAGR Value of 3.9% during 2022-2028
The medical case management market in North America is expected to grow from US$ 1,348.70 million in 2021 to US$ 1,760.46 million by 2028; it is estimated to grow at a CAGR of 3.9% from 2021 to 2028.
There has been a perpetual increase in the prevalence of chronic pain, long-term and short-term disability, and catastrophic cases. To treat these cases and improve the recovery rates of the patients, it has become essential to maintain efficient medical care management. Moreover, chronic pain is connected to various physical and mental conditions and contributes to high health care costs and low productivity. A few studies estimate that the prevalence of chronic pain ranges from 11% to 40%. Chronic pain has been linked to restrictions in mobility and daily activities, dependence on opioids, anxiety and depression, poor-perceived health, and reduced life quality. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in 2019, the prevalence of chronic pain was 20.4%, and the prevalence of high-impact chronic pain was 7.4% (or 36.4% of adults with chronic pain). The prevalence of chronic pain was high among women (21.7%), non-Hispanic white adults (23.6%), and those aged 65 and above (30.8%). High-impact chronic pain was highest among women (8.5%) and those aged 65 and above (11.8%). Chronic pain is one of the most common conditions for which adults seek medical care. Therefore, a significantly large pool of chronic pain patients and a consistent increase in prevalence of chronic pain propel the demand for medical case management services.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX Episodes 97 and 98 Subbed (Finalized)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Previously: Episodes 95 and 96 Subbed [Finalized])
(Check out my Subbed!GX Stream Masterpost!)
TURN-97: He Appears! The Mysterious World Champ!
The true objective of GeneX, hosted by Principal Samejima, was to find who it is that holds the "ultimate D card." Similarly, Ed Phoenix has been dueling in order to find the criminal who killed his father and walked away with that card. At the same time, the Dueling Pro League's World Title Match was about to get underway--one involving the Champion who has ruled over the Pro League for the past decade, DD. DD is also Ed's guardian, and his duel with Doctor Collector and his IQ of 200 gets underway. But their match is over in an instant--at the hands of DD, and the ultimate D card he used.
TURN-98: Activated at Last! The Ultimate D Card
Ed learns the truth--that DD, the World Champion, killed his father and stole his card--and is challenged to a duel.* Ed battles by making full use of his D-Hero cards, but just as it seemed that he was on equal footing with the World Champion, DD at last activates the ultimate D card, Bloo-D. Faced with this predicament, Ed... *Should note the preview text I translated for this mentioned that he was challenged "for the key Saiou entrusted him with," but... this wasn't actually mentioned, and DD challenged him to a "duel to the death." Though I guess that kinda works with how the dub tried to tie him to the Society of Light, lol.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A smidge late, but episodes 97 and 98 are finalized!
Got ourselves an interesting two-parter here, as we circle back to Ed's season-long quest to find his father's killer and the ultimate D card stolen from him, introducing us to his foster dad DD. Why is DD his foster dad? As we find out, for reasons--ones related to wanting to keep tabs on the investigation into all that. But in the years since, DD's gone on to rule the Pro League for a decade, thanks in large part to the mysterious powers of the Light of Destruction within him--which, as Pegasus tells Samejima, is behind the Phoenixes' tragedy and... several other events in history. Ed gets closure with his dad at the end of it all, as our ultimate D Bloo-D absorbed him, and he gets to finally get his life moving again.
Very much enjoyed these two episodes for what they were in completing Ed's arc; I felt it pretty believable in GX's context, with how his motivations were fueled by finding his dad's killer now that he can do something about it, and his rise through the Pro League being to find the guy at the top who'd have his dad's Bloo-D. Also a nice touch is that, when he finds out DD only took care of him as a means to keep up to speed on the investigation into it, Ed discards any sense of respect he had for him (notably, Ed initially used "anata" (a more polite-yet-casual "you") with him, but once that revelation's made, he switches to the ruder "kisama" and calls him "human trash" for what he did). Both were also screenwritten by Shin Yoshida, and 98 in particular gets helped by the animation work from Tea Sun In's team.
Edit-wise, not as many as last time; I only touched up 97 in two spots, while 98 got more of the handful of fixes I made, totaling 10 for both episodes--97 was more consistency/quality-of-watching stuff, while 98 had that plus a couple of quick card fixes. Due to Tumblr’s dumb link limit in posts yeeting them out of the tags used for them and limiting their reach, and since I still wanted a visual element to it, I’ve made a separate post here with my usual fix/edit breakdown for the interested!
Quick housekeeping: made a quick revision to 95 to fix a consistency error in my translated credits; the name "Chan Yoon Lee" under the Key Animation credits should actually be "Chan Woong Lee;" since they're a Key Animator consistently on Chi Man Park's team, and the "Yoon Lee" name only shows up this once, it's fair to say it was a typo on the JP team's part. (EDIT, 7/6: Updated 98 to correct "an unique" typo in one of DD's lines, and reword another one about Bloo-D's absorbed souls later on.)
Anywho, enjoy! Next up, I'll be working on 99-101 which work nicely to continue from where 98 leaves us as we start getting into Season 2's endgame, with Ojin coming for Judai's key and Ed confronting Saiou (in two really good episodes). I will be a bit more casual with it as my birthday's next Monday and I may or may not have plans for it, lol, but stay tuned!

have i talked about Ryou and why he’s such a great cast member if not the best cast member
No? Ok
He starts off at the top of Duel Academia and feels like his potential has no where to go that this is all he has until he duels Judai who he instantly sees has infinite potential in
Empowered by Judai’s natural charm and dueling prowess Ryou looks to better himself to live up to his title as the Hell Kaiser which is a sick fuckin name btw this type of name normally wouldn’t work because of how edgy and try hard in the cool dept BUT because of how Ryou is introduced built up and set on this pedestal you instantly respect that title and it doesnt hurt that he has the cyber dragon archetype which regardless of how you feel aesthetically works wonders for his image and the whole respect duel spiel
his title of kaiser is effective, but its not when he’s wearing white and blue its when the black clothes come in and he starts the underground duels to claw his way to the top after his defeat versus Edo
Its a shame we dont get to see more of his struggles but when he comes back during the Genex tournament and Fubuki duels him we see through Fubukis perspective how Ryou has changed and its not that hes lost his respect for duels its the transformation of his potential and how high can he go if Edo was the ceiling on his sky - fubuki instantly understands Ryou does not need saving because this is his conscious choice - Shou versus Ryou in Genex is also a great duel and the struggle of power bond and what it means to them both, and Shou struggling with if or not he is worthy of using power bond
Ryou in the dark world shows us a maturer side of him, we’re used to the sharpness of his design by now and its a huge relief to see him showing up with Edo (somehow they became buddies and that is wholesome thanks) to try and assist Judai after his reign as the supreme king
Its fun to aliken Ryou and Edo to loveable antiheroes in a pro wrestler setting because thats exactly what they are at this point
ANYWAY i digress the main part i want to yell about is Ryou versus Yubel Johan
Ryou starts off all about respecting and having respectful duels when he realises the respect thing isnt all there is if he performs this way it caps his abilities and he will never shine like hes supposed to then he loses himself and his way before finding his path again after his loss in the pro league
At first when Ryou challenges yubel johan everyones thinking hes looking to die because by now theyve set up his heart failure problems and his weakened body but Ryou reveals his plan at the last moment intending to take Yubel down with him so Johan - Johan their initial goal in the first place , the very reason they came back to the dark world could be safe and they could rescue him, completing their mission at the cost of his life
Ryou didnt have to do this, Edo explicitly says he’s indebted to Judai for saving Saiou his friend so he will fight for Judai but Ryou never explains his motive ever until he intends to take Yubel out and maybe that was a split second decision for him and he never planned it but why bother at all of he just wanted to fight an ultimate duelist as his last battle ?
This is because Kaiser Ryou reached his full potential in that moment, the fact hes using the cybers in that duel and not the cyber dark deck enhances this
Versus Yubel Johan Kaiser Ryou shines brightly and has the most respectful duel in all of his duels showcased in GX up until then. Its heroic and self sacrificial even if it didnt work and it’s because he believes full heartedly that Judai is a miracle duelist a one in a million and he is for their generation
Judai was an inspiration to him and his heroism rubbed off on him, yeah he didn’t win but he did it for Judai so he wouldn’t have to lose Johan a second time
Kaiser Ryou is a fuckin beast and i didnt expect him to climb up my list of favourites so quickly hes just good
