Wham! - Everything She Wants
1984
Wham! were a British pop duo formed in 1981, consisting of singer-songwriter George Michael and instrumentalist Andrew Ridgeley. They were one of the most successful pop acts during the 1980s, selling more than 30 million certified records worldwide from 1982 to 1986, and some of their most famous hits are "Last Christmas", "Careless Whisper" and "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go". George Michael was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist in November 2023, with Andrew Ridgeley as the induction presenter.
"Everything She Wants" was originally released as a single in 1984 on a double A-side with "Last Christmas". Upon release, "Last Christmas" took the majority of the attention and airplay as it was appropriate in early December as Christmas approached. However, the presence of an equally-billed flip side meant that radio stations had something else to play once "Last Christmas" had lost its seasonal topicality.
The presence of the Band Aid project meant that the double A-side peaked at number two in the UK Singles Chart, although in the process it became the biggest-selling record not to get to number one. However, in the USA, the song did reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100, and became the third number-one song in a row from 1984's Make It Big album. Wham! had two more number-one hits in the UK before splitting at their height in 1986.
Although George Michael bemoaned much of Wham!'s material as he began his solo career, "Everything She Wants" remained a song of which he was proud, and he continued to perform it in his shows. Furthermore, he remarked in an interview (to promote 25 Live tour) that "Everything She Wants" was his favourite Wham! song.
In 1997, the song was remixed and re-released as "Everything She Wants '97" for the greatest hits album The Best of Wham!: If You Were There….
"Everything She Wants" was featured on the official soundtrack album to the 2019 film Last Christmas, and was also featured in the 2013 video game Grand Theft Auto V on the in-game radio station Non-Stop Pop FM.
"Everything She Wants" received a total of 61,1% yes votes!
George Michael has previously been featured on the poll with the Stevie Wonder cover "As" at #62, together with Mary J. Blige.

Could you do a Lance blurb one where Addalynn and Margot are the official AM mascots since everyone on the team loves them
"Hey, little Strolls!", Michael greeted the two little girls as you walked through the garage, saying good morning to everyone you encountered.
"Hello, Mikey! Are you building daddy's car?", Addalynn asked him, "yes, we are, do you want to take a peek inside?", he asked the eager toddlers, flickering his eyes quickly at you to make sure you were okay with it as he pulled a stool for Addalynn to climb up on and then holding Margot on his arms so she could see, too.
"This is so cool!", your oldest cheered, asking about all the different pieces and tools as Margot was happily helping one of the other mechanics apply the stickers, "mummy, it's like the one's I did with daddy in my bedroom!", she smiled, remembering the wall decals she has on her bedroom walls.
"Do you mind if they show up on a video?", Laura from the media team wondered, "I won't show much of her faces, but everyone on the team loves them and that would be a cute concept", she said, "sure! At this point they love coming to the races not only to watch Lance race but also because everyone showers them with attention and compliments", you chuckled.
"You and Lance made the cutest little girls ever, what else did you expect?", she smiled.
.
The Driver's Parade was always exciting for anyone watching, getting a first glimpse of the drivers before the main event happened. Today, Lance had Addalynn and Margot with him, "is it still as calming as it usually is?", the interviewer asked Lance as he was looking for his two daughters, "yes, sharpens my senses and reflexes too - Margot, careful darling!".
"I think it's quite cute actually", Charles said as George nodded, "do you think we could bring all the kids here one day? Let our wives have a little bit of time without them, I bet they'd love it!", the British driver added, "I bet I could convince Matilda to join - she's a little shy usually, but with her friends here, she will be a little bit more at ease!", Lando chirped in.
(Thank you for submitting an ask ✨️)

lover boy - wip (re)intro
How do you navigate love after losing the person you loved the most?
I realised I don't like writing WIP intros where I just list everything super neatly + have a nice official summary so I am just going to infodump!! Lover Boy is an Adult Literary/Historical novel set in the late 1980s that follows a gay man's navigation of love, sexuality, community and grief after losing his best friend to AIDS. It's inspired by my own experiences of grief + caretaking and the dissertation I did on grief in queer AIDS narratives. It follows Beau, my beautiful special boy, and is like patchwork quilt of all of his avenues of love -- romantic, sexual, platonic, familial, communal, self -- that is stitched together with the grief from this one major loss. This is paralleled with chronological flashbacks telling the story of Bobby's illness, and how Beau took care of him.
Beau and Bobby are best friends who were platonically in love with each other, who had to adapt their relationship as Bobby got sicker and Beau became his caretaker, and in the midst of this adversity became closer than ever. Beau is a lover of love in all ways, who thinks the best holidays Halloween and Valentines Day, who loves sex but is bad at not falling in love afterwards, who has a soft heart, who also has a massive crush on George Michael. Bobby loved his life, his friends and going to the club with them, scenic hikes and swimming, his pet snake named Judas, leather and heavy metal and activism and also the Muppets (his fave was Gonzo btw). He was obsessed with volcanoes and wanted to be a volcanologist. And Beau misses him so much!!! He is trying to understand what his life is now after losing such a big part of it. He is trying to understand what kind of love he wants. He also is trying really hard not to fall back in love with his ex boyfriend who is back in the picture. And he is not really doing any of this well!!
Other features of this novel:
Gay + Autistic protagonist who doesn't know he is autistic but his special interest is horror movies and it shows (favourites are anything monstrous + full of bloodsoaked practical effects. Favourite of all time is The Lost Boys). Beau literally looks towards horror movies to try and understand grief and loss
Protagonist is a guy who actively wants to be haunted and is looking for any signs of ghosts
Lesbian + Gay + Bi + Trans + everything solidarity. An honouring of that history. Exploration on how the AIDS crisis shaped and reshaped community and identity because well, I did an entire dissertation on it and I am not putting that to waste!!! It is interesting and important!!
A narrative that is brutally honest about grief and death, and all the ways it is messy and complicated. A narrative that also doesn't always take itself seriously because sadness and joy are always holding hands
Narrative that plays around with form (video transcripts, letters, journal entries, descriptions of art) and POV (past + present tense blended together, third person present that often dips into second)
Exploration of caretaking on a community level and an intimate, one to one level. Look into how love is often all the little ways we help each other hold on.
Exploration of disability and sickness and how it shapes your identity, your relationship with yourself and others, especially when you're young (I also have a novella planned actually exploring this from Bobby's POV, but you didn't hear that from me!!!!)
The idea that grief never gets smaller, just your life grows around it
The idea that you can love your friends!!! You can be in love with them!! And that love is no "lesser" than romantic love, and it is just as beautiful and big and bright. Even when Beau navigates romantic relationships, these aren't put on a pedestal above any other type of love
A golden retriever named Atlas (Beau's own beautiful, special boy)
This is a personal project that I'm not publishing, but it means a lot to me so I will talk about it a lot!!! I've been playing around with it in its current form for about a year now and am finally making a dent in an actual first draft. My want is to share long, in depth pieces about how I navigate writing a story like this somewhere like Substack, and also all the fun of drafting it along the way. Expect infodumps and excerpts!!!

Reposted from @apnews ‘I can’t breathe': Eric Garner remembered on the 10th anniversary of his chokehold death...
Ten years after Eric Garner ’s death at the hands of New York City police officers made “I can’t breathe” a rallying cry, loved ones on Wednesday remembered his life and legacy.
“I want people to remember him and remember that he was the one that helped get laws changed, that helped implement laws, who was the sacrificial lamb and that, because of him, others have benefited,” said Gwen Carr, Garner’s mother, at the start of a march on Staten Island, the borough where her son died.
A few dozen Garner family members, friends, and activist supporters marched to a park that sits between the sidewalk where he was killed and a street that now bears his name — Eric Garner Way. As thousands of protesters have done over the past decade, they repeated some of his last words: “I can’t breathe.”
Bystander video showed Garner gasping the phrase on July 17, 2014, while locked in a police chokehold. The recording spurred Black Lives Matter protests in New York and across the country. More demonstrations followed weeks later when Michael Brown, an 18-year-old Black man, was fatally shot by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri, on Aug. 9, 2014.
Six years later, George Floyd was recorded uttering the exact same words as he begged for air while a white Minneapolis police officer pressed his knee into Floyd’s neck, killing him and sparking a new wave of mass protests.
Carr noted that since her son’s death, there has been an increase in the use of video cameras by police. In 2020, New York lawmakers passed the Eric Garner Anti-Chokehold Act, which removed legal ambiguities in official police conduct by creating a felony crime of strangulation by peace officers that causes injury or death. Officer Daniel Pantaleo, who restrained Garner, was fired in 2019, but never charged with a crime.

Wham! - Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go (Official Video)
George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley were Wham! an English pop duo formed in 1981. They became one of the most commercially successful pop acts of the 1980s, selling more than 30 million certified records worldwide from 1982 to 1986.
“Wake me up before you go-go
Don't leave me hanging on like a yo-yo
Wake me up before you go-go
I don't wanna miss it when you hit that high
Wake me up before you go-go
'Cause I'm not planning on going solo
Wake me up before you go-go, ah
Take me dancing tonight
I wanna hit that high, yeah, yeah.”

British Artist Bins 🗑️ Award Over Government’s Backing of the “Illegal Regime of The Terrorist, Genocidal, Zionist 🐖 🐷 🐖 Cunts and Apartheid Isra-hell”
Katharine Hamnett Received the Official Distinction in 2010 for her Eye-catching Anti-establishment Designs

British artist Katharine Hamnett publicly renounced her Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) honor as a statement against the government’s ongoing support for Israel’s war in Gaza, in a video posted to social media on Monday.
Wearing a t-shirt reading “Disgusted to Be British” in her trademark all-caps font, the designer said “I’m Disgusted to be British For Our Role in Genocide in Gaza,” brandishing her CBE and placing it in a trash can.
The honor “Belongs in the Dustbin 🗑️ Along with [UK Prime Minister Rishi] Sunak and [Labour Party leader Keir] Starmer,” Hamnett explained, encouraging viewers to visit a website where they could look up their MP. “Tell Them You’ll Never Vote For Them Again Unless They Support a Permanent Ceasefire in Gaza,” she said.
Viewers were also given a link where they could buy a shirt similar to the one Hamnett was wearing.
The British designer launched her eponymous label in 1979 and soon got attention for her protest t-shirts, which bore simple slogans across the chest in all-caps font. Early anti-war designs included “Choose Life,” “Education Not Missiles,” and “Worldwide Nuclear Ban Now,” along with more general slogans like “Leaders Suck.”
In the 1980s, she found wider attention, with celebrities like pop acts Madonna, WHAM!, Queen, and George Michael wearing her designs in music videos and performances. Supermodels including Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer and Nadja Auermann walked in her runway shows early in their careers.
Hamnett has continued to produce political t-shirts ever since, protesting the UK’s involvement in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars with slogans like “No War, Blair Out” and “Not in My Name,” and became an early voice for the responsible sourcing of textiles, lobbying for a tightening of industry standards as far back as 1989.
She was awarded the CBE in 2010, a development that she said “Surprised” her. “It’s Quite Funny, I’m Respectable at Last,” she told the BBC at the time, calling the distinction “seductive.”
Thousands of British Artists Signed an Open Letter in October Calling for a Ceasefire in Gaza. While that letter was published when the Palestinian death toll hovered around 2,750, the number of dead is now more than ten times that, with Gaza’s health ministry estimating the current figure at upwards of 29,000 as of Monday. Israel declared war in Gaza following Hamas’ October 7 raid, which left 1,200 Israelis dead and another 240 taken captive.
The UK has been second only to the US in its unflinching support for Illegal, Apartheid Regime of the Zionist 🐖 🐷 🐖 Cunts, Genocidal and Terrorist Isra-hell throughout the war, even as allies have demanded restraint. London has also collaborated with the US military to bomb Yemen in response to Houthi attacks on Israel-affiliated ships in the Red Sea.
