New Video Footage of Ahmaud Arbery- What Does it Show?
South Brunswick, Georgia – New footage of Ahmaud Arbery on the fateful day of his death surfaced from a surveillance video at a construction site not far the McMichael’s home. It appears to show him enter a construction site and stay for less than 5 minutes, then leave without taking anything. The new video shows that he was not armed.

For the second day in a row, several historically Black colleges and universities received bomb threats Tuesday, resulting in shelters-in-place and canceled classes as authorities swept campuses looking for devices. No explosions have been reported.
Howard University, in Washington, D.C., was threatened on both days. It declared an all-clear Tuesday as it did Monday.
CBS Washington, D.C., affiliate WUSA-TV says a bomb threat was also reported at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) Tuesday.
Other schools getting threats Tuesday included Edward Waters University in Jacksonville, Florida; Kentucky State University; Fort Valley State, in Georgia; Xavier University in Louisiana; Spelman College in Atlanta and Morgan State in Baltimore.
In addition to Howard on Monday, schools receiving threats included Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida; Albany State University in Georgia; Bowie State University in Maryland and Delaware State University.
The FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are investigating.
"The FBI is aware of the series of bomb threats around the country and we are working with our law enforcement partners to address any potential threats," the FBI said in a statement to CBS News. "As always, we would like to remind members of the public that if they observe anything suspicious to report it to law enforcement immediately."
On Tuesday, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson, chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, announced he has contacted the FBI and DHS to help get HBCUs and their leaders "the answers they deserve."
"It is not lost on me that these threats are targeting African American educational institutions at a time when we are observing Black History Month," Thompson said Tuesday. "Moreover, this rash of threats against HBCUs put further strain on campuses and communities that were already under great stress, as they try to operate safely during the pandemic. These bomb threats against HBCUs deserve a full investigation, particularly given the dynamic terrorism threat landscape."

On Sunday, 19 top administrators of the San Francisco School Board condemned the 2016 tweets from the board's Vice President Alison Collins
The officials said the tweets 'perpetuate gross and harmful stereotypes and leave no room for nuance or potential misunderstanding'
Their statement addressed Collins' tweets that she shared on December 4, 2016
In thread, Collins explained that she was seeking to 'combat anti-black racism in the Asian community' and at her daughter's mostly Asian American school
Collins said Asian Americans used 'white supremacist thinking to assimilate'
The entire senior staff of the San Francisco schools has denounced a black school board member's tweets that claimed Asian Americans use 'white supremacist thinking' to get ahead.
Tumblr media
On Sunday, 19 top administrators at the district's central office condemned the 2016 tweets from the board's Vice President Alison Collins, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
The city's top elected officials including its mayor, nearly all city supervisors and the area's state legislators all called for Collins to resign - but she hasn't.
The school officials said the tweets 'perpetuate gross and harmful stereotypes and leave no room for nuance or potential misunderstanding'.

In the thread, Collins said that she was seeking to 'combat anti-black racism in the Asian community' and at her daughter's mostly Asian American school.
Collins said that Asian Americans had used 'white supremacist thinking to assimilate and "get ahead."'
She also included a reference comparing Asian Americans to 'house n***ers'.
'Where are the vocal Asians speaking up against Trump? Don't Asian Americans know they are on his list as well? Do they think they won't be deported? profiled? beaten? Being a house n****r is still being a n****r. You're still considered "the help,'" she tweeted at the time.
Collins has not resigned from her position and would not return calls from the San Francisco Chronicle on Sunday. Instead she directed people to an op-ed she wrote that was published on Medium in which she claimed her past statements were taken 'out of context.'
'A number of tweets and social media posts I made in 2016 have recently been highlighted. They have been taken out of context, both of that specific moment and the nuance of the conversation that took place,' Collins tweeted on Saturday with a link to her article.
A fellow board member, Jenny Lam, called the post a 'non-apology.'
The controversy comes as San Francisco’s school board has been slammed recently for voting to rename 44 of the city’s schools that were alleged to have insensitive names. The person in charge of the renaming effort admitted he researched the topic on Wikipedia and didn't consult historians.
In January, the board voted 6-1 to strip the schools of their current monikers because they honor 'racist' figures from American history. Schools named after politicians including George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Abraham Lincoln are now set to be rebranded in the coming months.
Meanwhile, a gay white father of a bi-racial child was denied a spot on the San Francisco Board of Education's volunteer parent committee in February because his race doesn't bring enough diversity to the group.
And the district of 52,000 students has been in a bitter dispute with unions over re-opening of the schools, which have been closed since the height of the coronavirus. Some schools will open April 12, but it’s not clear how many.
Collins, the school board's vice resident, said in the Medium posting that 'as a Black woman, a mother, an educator and a fierce advocate of equity in our schools I utilize my social media platforms to speak out on race and racism. Even when these conversations are difficult in our very divided society.'

In the Medium piece, Collins wrote: 'As a Black woman, a mother, an educator and a fierce advocate of equity in our schools I utilize my social media platforms to speak out on race and racism. Even when these conversations are difficult in our very divided society'
In the post, Collins noted that then-President Donald Trump had just won an election when she made the remarks on Twitter
Meanwhile one of my daughters had recently experienced an incident in her school in which her Asian American peers were taunting her Latinx classmate about “sending kids back to Mexico” and the KKK. It was a time of processing, of fear among many communities with the unknown of how the next four years would unfold,' Collins wrote.
'But whether my tweets are being taken out of context or not, only one thing matters right now. And that is the pain our Asian American brothers and sisters and siblings are experiencing. Words have meaning and impact.
'Trump showed us that clearly with his sowing of hate and pitting communities of color against one another for political gain. I acknowledge that right now, in this moment my words taken out of context can be causing more pain for those who are already suffering. For the pain my words may have caused I am sorry, and I apologize unreservedly.
'What matters more than anything is showing up and supporting Asian American communities and victims of hate crimes. Let me be clear: I stand with the Asian American community against acts of violence. I have spoken with leaders in the Asian American community over the last 24 hours and I acknowledge the pain they are feeling,' she added.
Collins' tweets resurfaced just days after eight people, mostly Asian women, were shot dead in Atlanta, Georgia.
Police in Atlanta are still investigating suspected gunman Robert Aaron Long's motive in connection with the shooting on Tuesday. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the investigation.
All eight deceased victims have been formally identified as: Delaina Ashley Yaun, 33; Paul Andre Michels, 54; Xiaojie Tan, 49; Daoyou Feng, 44; Soon C. Park, 44; Hyun J. Grant, 51; Suncha Kim, 69, and 63-year-old Yong Yue.

Jim Crow Once Again
Jim Crow Once Again
It seems to me…. “Many thought that the abolition of slavery, the end of Jim Crow, and the legislative progress of the Civil Rights Era, among other watershed moments, would have fundamentally done away with the racist structures that have long oppressed black people.  However, we know that has been far from the case.”  ~ Opal Tometi[1]. Georgia passed a controversial election reform bill on 21…

✖️✖️✖️ 8x21 Existence
The one where... Scully gives birth to William in the middle of nowhere with a bunch of aliens watching - but we get a happy ending kiss ❤️ Part 2 of 2.
Best: That lovely season ending kiss over their son. After everything they’ve been through it’s simple, and heartfelt, and the truth we both know, the truth that really matters, is that they love each other. I can’t resist continuing to watch or pretend that season 9 or the revival didn’t happen but I don’t blame those that do - this is a lovely, hopeful ending point for the show.
Worst: All the on the nose religious symbolism gets a GIANT eye roll from me - the three wise Gunmen, Mulder following a light to find them, Scully in Virgin Mary blue robes 🙄. I signed on to this show for two people who team up for the sisyphean task of going up against shadowy forces in the government to uncover the Truth and fall in love along the way. As the show goes on it tries to turn Mulder and Scully into the key, central figures around which these conspiracies revolve (Mulder’s mysterious brain activity and brain surgery, Scully’s mysterious pregnancy). The shift in scope from individuals using their badges and wits to search for the Truth and bring it to light, to (the implication of) divine intervention against unstoppable alien forces just doesn’t work for me and I think it betrays what made the mytharc work in the early seasons.

Rewatch Thoughts:
Doggett check-in: Mulder says don’t tell anyone where Scully is, not even me, then turns around and asks where Scully is, and Doggett just rolls with it because he knows enough not to keep them apart 😆
Pregnancy check-in: It’s The Miracle of Birth, The Episode. Once again I say, poor Scully.
Theory 1 from last episode: Miracle baby, super human, proof of God
Theory 2 from this episode: The chip made her pregnant with the first organic version of a super soldier
Theory 3 from this episode: Miracle baby, but human, not what they thought he would be
For a long time I thought the answer was some combo of Theory 1 and 3 - miracle baby, special (but with all the shit Mulder and Scully have been through you would expect him to be). The revival posits Theory 2 was actually correct I guess, but that’s just depressing and if I think about it too much it’ll upset me all over again so lalalala William is Mulder and Scully’s baby and he has a few alien super powers but it’s fine.
Reyes is definitely a goof, but I like her - making the best of a terrible situation and doing her best up to make Scully comfortable... doing whale calls as birth music... Scully opening up to her (a little) about Melissa 🥰😆🥺
As much as I enjoy the stuff with Reyes, Mulder should have been there - only CC would think that splitting them up on Mulder’s last original run episode (except for the “series” finale) was a good idea... It wouldn’t have changed anything plot-wise! Skinner and Doggett could have still run around the bureau looking for answers. Mulder could have witnessed the creepy-ass crowd of aliens witnessing the birth of their child. It wouldn’t have changed anything plot-wise, but the two of them on the run together, resourceless, helpless against these super soldiers, could have actually laid some emotional groundwork for why Scully and William don’t go on the run with Mulder next season.
I don’t like how Krycek’s death was handled. (Except for how Mulder’s like please just kill me and skip the villain monologue where you explain why you did it 😆) I get that it was a big moment after all this time, but it felt drawn out and melodramatic. Skinner doing it was fitting but I wish it had more of a Don Draper I don’t think of you at all you little rat bastard vibe. Just a personal preference though.
Scully: William, after your father. I... 🤯 My guess is they wanted to make it clear that we’re done with the who’s the daddy guessing game (for now 😡) but the fix is so, so simple! Just say she’s naming him William, after both our fathers!!!

Kendrick Johnson
Johnson was found headfirst in the center of a vertical rolled-up wrestling mat, in his high school gym, on January 11, 2013. His body was discovered by students who had climbed up to the top of a cluster of mats, each of which stood nearly six feet tall and three feet wide. An autopsy by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) stated that Johnson had died from positional asphyxia,] and the case was ruled an accidental death by the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office.
They hypothesized that Johnson had fallen into the mat while looking for a shoe and died after being unable to get out. Three students told investigators that it was common for some students to store their shoes behind or under the rolled up mats. Johnson was not wearing shoes when he was found. A student at the school said that he shared a pair of Adidas shoes with Johnson, and that after gym class Johnson would always "go to the mats, jump up and toss the shoes inside the middle of the hole."
Lt. Stryde Jones, who headed up the investigation for the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office stated: "We never had credible information that indicated this was anything other than an accident." Johnson's family questioned this hypothesis. Unsatisfied with the result of the investigation, Johnson's family hired an independent autopsy conducted by William R. Anderson with Forensic Dimensions in Heathrow, Florida on June 15. Anderson claimed that his findings indicated traces of blunt force trauma to the right neck and soft tissues, and suggested the death was not accidental.
In November 2013, 290 hours of surveillance tape from 35 cameras that covered the gym area was released to CNN following a court request. A forensic analyst enlisted by CNN found that tapes from two cameras are missing an hour and five minutes of footage, while another set was missing two hours and ten minutes of footage. Some of the apparent lapses in coverage were found to result from camera systems that were not synchronized with one another. Time stamps between some separate camera systems differed by as much as 20 minutes for the same time period, giving the impression of a gap for portions of the footage where no gap existed.
Other missing footage was the result of the camera's motion-activated function not being triggered. Camera systems were motion-activated, using a change in light pixels to turn recordings on and off. The area where Johnson's body was discovered, where the gym mats were stored, was outside the range of all of the surveillance cameras.
Attorneys for the Johnson family expressed fears that the camera footage was edited as part of a cover-up. However, analysis of the camera systems by the Valdosta Daily Times purported to explain the anomalies, casting doubt on the theory of a cover-up. The president of the Valdosta-Lowndes County chapter of the SCLC and the former lead investigator for that chapter have stated that they believe the attorneys for the Johnsons have "not been entirely truthful in their statements" and that there was no cover-up in this case.

IBVS AU and/or songfic and/or animatic I had come up with a while ago but never got around to making: The Night the Lights Went Out in Foxfield
The AU is clearly based off of the song The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia by Reba McEntire but if you don't want spoilers for the AU read the rest of this before listening to the song.
(IBVS is by onebizarrekai)
Trigger warnings: character death, murder, the song mentions hanging and guns. Nothing really spooky, it's just dark.
First off, there's a few things changed from normal IBVS so that the AU works a bit better. Nevin and Chris are dating, because otherwise the whole main plot of the song would be gone. Nevin and Drew have negative and positive auras respectively, which is already a headcanon/theory of mine but in this AU it's canon. Otherwise, just some characters acting a bit out-of-character so that the plot works better.
It starts with Drew and Nevin coming back home from a vacation or trip of some sort. Drew takes the role of the narrator from the song, and Nevin is the narrator’s brother and main character. Nevin takes a walk to the park as soon as he gets home, and sits down on a park bench. Isaac appears out of nowhere, as to be expected from Isaac. He takes the role of Andy Wo-Lo. Isaac tells Nevin, as in the song, “Sit down, I’ve got some bad news that’s gonna hurt.” “Your boyfriend ain’t home tonight,” He proceeds to inform Nevin that Chris has been seeing Harley behind his back, and then shamefully admits to also spending a night with Chris.
Nevin is extremely angry, and Isaac gets scared and leaves. On his way home, Isaac runs into Drew and Edward. Drew asks if he’s okay and Isaac recounts the conversation he just had with Nevin, and mentions that he’s worried about how Nevin will take this.
Nevin takes a bit of time to cool off in the park before going home. Before he gets to his house, he checks inside Chris’ window to see if he’s there. He’s not.
Still very pissed off, Nevin decides Isaac ran off too quickly and Nevin didn’t get any time to interrogate him or give him a piece of his mind. So, he goes to pay Isaac a visit. However, he notices two sets of footprints (it had been raining earlier and the ground was still wet about an hour and a half ago, but was now dry enough for footprints not to be left anymore) leading behind Isaac’s apartment building and follows them. At the end of the trail, he finds Isaac. Well, Isaac’s body, with his head bashed in.
Barry, who was just trying to take a nice stroll around the town but got curious about two pairs of footsteps he found, finds Nevin standing over Isaac’s body. Nevin opens his mouth to explain, but Barry interrupts him. "Why'd you do it?"
Cut to a scene in the forest near Edward's house, where Ed, Barry, and Charlie are having a trial for Nevin. They chose to leave Drew out because they weren't sure he would want to (or was mature enough to) deal with this situation. They also tried to find Chris, but nobody could (not even Charlie, who admitted to feeling like something was seriously wrong and demanded to join in on the trial). Nevin rancorously claims that Chris is probably at Harley's house just like Isaac said, but his bitterness doesn't really help his case. Charlie is also really insistent that Nevin did something to Chris, accusing him of kidnapping or murdering him.
Barry asks why they couldn’t just take this to the police, but Ed reminds him that the police will note how it looked like Isaac was hit over the head and just think they’re all crazy when they bring up Nevin possibly doing that with his superstrength. And even if they do find Nevin guilty, how is anyone supposed to keep him locked up? He literally has superstrength and some kind of goop power, there’s no way any normal person could safely keep Nevin anywhere without him escaping. The police could do an investigation but Nevin's trial was the Investigation Bureau of the Very Supernatural's responsibility.
They discuss how the footprints leading behind Isaac's building were Nevin-sized footprints, and how Nevin has no alibi because nobody had seen him since Isaac told him about the Chris situation (Barry even called to ask Drew when the last time he saw Nevin was). The trial goes on, Nevin’s aura not exactly working in his favor and Drew not here to calm everyone down. Barry mainly just wants to come to a fair conclusion, Ed is trying his best to hold it together and acts like he just wants to protect Foxfield but in reality he’s distraught over Isaac and wants whoever killed him to be punished, and Charlie just seems convinced something happened to Chris and is determined to either get Nevin to fess up or find Chris and make sure he's safe.
Eventually Edward finds Nevin guilty. In the song the judge makes the decision to execute the main character, but this is IBVS so I decided to change that part. Instead Ed calls up Dez and ask her to find a sort of reverse summoning ritual. A trapping ritual. Of course she asks what this is for, but Ed insists that he'll explain in school and that he just needs the ritual right now. Dez finds one which will trap a subject in a parallel dimension frozen in time (frozen, except for the subject) and can be reversed to free the subject if necessary. One needs to create the reversal ritual themself so that nobody can just go around freeing every trapped soul in existence. She sends a picture of this page to Ed.
And so, Nevin gets trapped in the knockoff-Eighth-Day until there's proof it wasn't him. Then comes the hard part of telling Drew and Chris. Well, it seems just Drew, because Chris is still nowhere to be found. Edward and Barry try to explain to Drew what happened in the least upsetting way possible, telling him that the police wouldn’t have been able to do anything and how they’re sorry but just letting Nevin roam around while he was the main suspect wasn’t an option. They don’t tell Drew about the reversal because they’re afraid he’ll bring Nevin right back.
And, well, perhaps this is the best time to listen to the actual song. I couldn’t do it justice.

Kemp and Perdue: Vote Suppression Hitmen
Greg Palast's most important investigation ever 280 years ago, two Georgia dynasties, the forebears of Governor Brian Kemp and (defeated) Senator David Perdue, overcame George’s prohibition of slavery and convinced King George to grant them powers to bring Africans in chains to establish the plantation system.
Georgia is still a plantation state. But instead of the hanging rope, it’s lynching by laptop; though Brian Kemp has introduced much more direct means of terror, using the Georgia Bureau of investigation as a new voting KGB.
